Stumbled across the restaurant seeking directions well after closing time and had the pleasure in meeting Tina .She was passionate about the arboretum and told us all about its history, and the many reasons we should return in all seasons. She was warm , knowledgable and one of the highlights of our day . Thank you Tina .

Having had a long walk we stopped for lunch. We both had the toasted sandwiches, tea and cakes. There was a bit of a queue but the waitress came round to apologise that there was only one till working. Once served the food drinks arrived at our table quickly, and it was a large tea pot of tea too. Food followed quickly afterwards. The toasted sandwich was hot with well melted cheese and a very nice relish and salad. It was delicious. The cakes were equally moorish. Just what we needed after a long walk.

Disappointingly poor cafe brunch experience, which ruined a pleasant walk around Westonbirt. A real missed opportunity. If it was run well, this cafe could be a real asset for Westonbirt. Instead, it suffers from a kitchen crew who cannot cook and a clueless waiting/serving staff displaying zero care, common sense or social skills. The short female supervisor has a real attitude problem. The reality is the ordering experience at this simple cafe is needlessly complicated. The service from order to food arriving is painfully slow (and there were under 4 tables occupied when we were there so they were not busy). The coffees we were served are amongst the very worst we have ever tasted (with black bits floating in it and the drink itself did not taste or smell of coffee). The breakfast itself was very poor and badly cooked. It seemed thrown together without care or attention using poor quality ingredients. This meant it did not taste of anything. Overall, a big miss from us. Avoid!

I am genuinely disappointed with what has become of Westonbirt Arboretum Café. I cancelled my membership a few years ago but pop in on the odd occasion with my dog just to see if things are getting any better. Sadly not, I can order a coffee in Costa and wait a couple of minutes as it is freshly made. Westonbirt requires a table number and a completely ridiculous amount of time after what is after all hot milk and a shot of coffee. I can remember way back when the food and service here were superb. Then, when there were two separate tills with fresh scones on the counter service, it was far better. Coffees were made in no time at all as we waited just after the payment point. Sadly, pained expressions appear to be the order of the day, and the entire process reminds me of a bad episode of The Apprentice and also giving the impression of none of the employees ever having worked in any type of catering business.

absolutely appalled that the burger that was served was even sent to a customer as fit to eat, it tasted even worse than it looked, one bite and sent it back, admittedly got the £16.50 back (which is robbery for the standard of food and service offered) its was lukewarm and actually Cold in places, full of congealed fat, cheese wasn’t so much cheese as tasteless cold plastic, lettuce was brown on the edges, bun wasn’t even toasted. Disgusting. As local members it’s such a same that it’s hugely overpriced yet so appalling.

We went with another couple who ordered a snack lunch at the counter immediately after us at 12.55 pm. While our drinks & light lunch arrived at the table just after 1.10 pm, their 2 small plate starters with side of chips did not arrive till 1.52 by which time we had finished & ready to set off again. When I complained I was told their was a rush of orders - in fact the outdoor tables were almost empty & indoors was less than half occupied. No offer of recompense for unacceptable wait & poor service. After travelling a distance to this stunningly beautiful venue, we did not want to waste precious time waiting nearly an hour for food. In addition, there was very little choice of cold dishes - disappointing on a very hot day.

Poor service in cafe. Coffee took ages and most of it in saucer on arrival! I’ve been a member for over 20 years and this is the worst I’ve ever seen catering. I ordered two coffees and cake. Mid afternoon so not too busy. Had cake but coffee just took an age so went back in to check whereabouts. Barked at by ? Manager it was coming. Took at least a further 5 minutes to arrive. A very miserable woman brought it out and spilt most of it in saucer. No apology given. Just dreadful. Get your act together westonbirt as this is really not acceptable for prices you charge.

There are three distinct areas for food at Westonbirt; the Kitchen, the Smokehouse, and the Pantry. The weather was cold, so we skipped over the sandwich and snack food from the Pantry, which left the Kitchen or the Smokehouse. The Smokehouse is a foodvan-style burger and pizza hatch, which I liked the sound of, but they don't do a kids menu and weren't serving pizza, so we settled on the Kitchen. My daughter picked sausage, chips and beans, and I went for the ham and cheese panini. There was a slightly longer wait than I expected, but I think in hindsight it was difficult to judge how many people were waiting because of the indoor/outdoor seating. When the food arrived it was to a bit of a mixed reaction; the sausage, chips and beans was a generous portion and, with the included juice and fruit, felt like good value. My panini with a small dressed salad didn't feel as generous, and when I bit into it, it was surprisingly dry for a cheese and ham panini. I've eaten the sandwiches from the Pantry before which I've enjoyed, so I hope today might just have been an off day for the Kitchen.

Truly shocking. 30 minute wait to order. The when the food finally came the portions were v small, food overdone and very expensive for what you got. The adult meals were as small as a children's one, so over priced and they rely on a captive customer so the service and product is so below par. Bring a packed lunch

So much better today! If I were running this place I would immediately put Kirsty/Kelsey in charge of all customer service training. She managed to tick all the boxes that have sadly been previously lacking in this venue. Prompt service ✔️ Upbeat and Smiley ✔️ Great Interaction ✔️ It’s not ways easy working with the public but sometimes it is important to put on the smiles and save the grimaces and raised eyebrows for when you get back in the kitchen. Even if you are having a bad day as an employee, the customers don’t need to know it or see it. Even considering renewing.

Very disappointed with the food which looked delicious and was generous in size but lacking in flavour. The mozzarella, tomato and pepper panini was a generous portion but the mozzarella had absolutely no flavour, there were honestly five tiny pieces of chopped tomato and one of those bits was the stem piece and huge amounts of pepper. Seven pounds for some tasteless cheese and strips of pepper...come on! My husband's Ploughmans was again generous in portion size but he also remarked that the cheeses were tasteless and many of the pieces of chopped lettuce in his salad were brown. Really disappointing and no excuse these days in an area that excels at local cheeses.

I had a panini at the Westonbirt arboretum restaurant today and it was really poor. It was not cheap - £7.95(?) - I had a few standard ready salted crisps(could have been Asda own brand), a spoonful of coleslaw and a poor excuse for a panini. What might you expect of a panini described as containing smoked bacon, Red Leicester cheese and tomato? A couple of freshly cooked rashers of bacon maybe, a decent layer of melted cheese and a couple of chopped tomatoes? Not so at Westonbirt ! A frugal amount of cheese managed to hold together my panini with an amount of orange grease. The bacon was soggy (had been precooked) and I don't think there was even one rasher - a few bits totaling maybe half a rasher. As for tomato, there were two bits of approx 1 cm square. The mark up on serving food of this frugality must be incredible. Disgusted! We are members and have enjoyed the toasted sandwiches in latter years. The standards in this restaurant have really plummeted. Will avoid eating here in future.

We asked a member of staff to wipe our table as it was sticky. We were informed by one waitress who decided to intervene by saying it was the varnish (didn't go down too well). My partner and I had a mozzarella, pesto and pepper toastie at £6.99. I was so hungry that I could have eaten anything (so I ate my toastie even though it wasn't good- so I wasn't in a position to complain myself) but my partner was outraged as she opened up her toastie and there were no peppers to be seen. My partner complained to the manageress who begrudgingly acknowledged that was a problem. My partner also mentioned that the white bread wasn't particularly good and the manager informed us that it was Hobbs bread. (We weren't offered a white/brown bead option) The coleslaw was inedible (it was a sloppy mess- with no taste apart of a nasty bitterness from the red cabbage)- when we mentioned this to the manageress she made excuses that the coleslaw was not made with mayonnaise as it was a healthy option and that they were trying new things with healthy options and in any case they had not received any complaints about this before. To describe this manageress as 'severe' is an understatement; she could see that my partner was annoyed and disappointed and made no attempt whatsoever to diffuse the situation. My partner and I have experience in the catering and hospitality industry and this manager demonstrated "Customer-service" of the worst sort. We were not after compensation (as I had eaten mine, apart from the coleslaw)- all we wanted was a heartfelt apology which was not forthcoming- instead, all we got were futile excuses. As we left, I picked up my arboretum map from the table leaving some of it well and truly stuck on the table. The sticky table was caused by the varnish in the end- is this really acceptable though?

We unfortunately had to sit outside because it was full. It was just after 1pm so that was fair enough. The staff were efficient and quick. When our food came it was well presented but I was a little suprised as was one of my companions who had made the same choice. The "scotch egg " was an egg covered in bubble and squeak and deep fried. No sausage meat as we had expected in sight. What there was of it was tasty but my companion's was missing the "lumpy brown sauce" and she took the words out of my mouth when she said to mind your teeth on the bacon ( very small pieces which could easily been missed if they weren't so hard). First visit for many years to the Westonburt Arboretum and following Trip Advisor advice arrived early to avoid the crowds. So what better way to start than to have breakfast in the restaurant! Opted for the breakfast bap containing bacon, sausage and egg and at £4.75 didn't think that was too bad. (A full breakfast is £8). Served quickly with 2/3 slices of bacon a sausage and still runny egg. Coffee was good and strong and the restaurant was clean and tidy.

Been for a walk with visiting friends, stopped for coffee and cake, as you do, and were surrounded by wasps. a lot of wasps. so we moved inside and the wasps moved inside with us and brought some of their wasp friends too. rather spoiled the whole visit really. Otherwise we like this place, nice setting, facilities and range of food and drink options, prices aren't too bad either. just don't go when the wasps are visiting too.

Lovely restaurant with lovely coffee and cake. At the end of our wet walk we stopped by to finish our walk off with a hot drink and a little something sweet. My husband had the sausage roll. He said it was really lovely, freshly made and the meat was really tasty.

Perfect after a day's walking...just sit back - relax with a cold drink and some food. What more can a person ask for?

We had not planned to eat here when visiting the arboretum but we're attractive the by the smell of outdoor cooking. Yes, they had the barbecue going in winter! The meat was of very good quality and the accompanying salads were fresh and clearly homemade. As it was a sunny day and the restaurant was packed, we ate outside. Good covering provided by large sails. Lots of people with their dogs (bowls of water provided ), so caters for all!

we really enjoy our walks around the trees of Westonbirt with our dog Gibson. He loves to run and play with friends he meets and chases after his ball. but at the end of a long walk there is nothing better than hot coffee and a bun in the café. There is plenty of outside seating so dogs are welcome there. can be a bit pricey if there are a lot of you. they do lunches and snacks.

I reviewed this the first time I visited, it was mid morning then and I enjoyed my leisurely stop off. This time it was lunchtime and very, very busy. Somehow everything seemed different. OK, the staff have to cope with busy times but it wasn't a relaxing experience. After waiting to find a table we had to clear it ourselves. Being so busy, we took the snap decision not to order a main meal as planned because we were told there would be a 'wait'. We settled for sausage rolls and snacks instead. The food still took a while to arrive and the snacks - a small piece of Bakewell tart £2.75 - quite pricey. The food arrived without one item we had paid for. After queuing again to enquire we were told we should have taken a plate and served ourselves! I've tasted better coffees too. If it wasn't so cold I'd have taken my tray outside where there were plenty of empty tables. A friendly chap who asked to join our family table, as there was nowhere else for him to sit, was waiting for his meal. When it arrived, his main meal looked OK but I felt a bit sorry that he was having to eat his lunch in such chaotic surroundings - more fast food Cafe than restaurant at this time of day. With parking allowing for hundreds of visitors I wonder whether the restaurant is large enough or staffed sufficiently for 'rush' hours. Such a pity, and maybe lunchtimes on Mondays are always so busy, but the Westonbirt experience should also encompass the restaurant/'Cafe'. Everything else - the walks, the views, the play areas and gift shop are SO good.

Firstly, this is a nice restaurant. The braised pork belly my husband had was delicious and the toasted sandwich I had was good too. It was a bit expensive in my opinion but the cost is reflected in the quality of the food. We sat outside and the location is simply stunning. Sadly there were a few issues... I ordered a cheese free toastie but it came to me with cheese so it had to be sent back. Also my husband's lunch took a very long time to come - they'd lost his order. The waitress was very very apologetic and the restaurant was REALLY busy, despite the freezing weather, so I can understand why this occurred. I want to give this review 4/5 but due to 2 problems, I don't feel I can.

We recently visited the Arboretum, and had a drink here - but ate nothing because the prices were not just high, they were as tall as the trees! £2.50 for a scone! And not even a waitress service! It says Restaurant - but cafe is more accurate!Often at tourist destinations like this, prices are higher than can be justified because you, as a visitor are trapped there. This however, is ridiculous! What was there looked good - but my recommendation is take your own picnic!

Lovely menu and food, staff are always friendly. They have inside and outside seating so if you are walking your dog, you can still sit down and eat and there are always bowls of fresh water for the dogs.

I wouldn't bother going there. The food is over priced, the coffee tastes horrible and to top it all the staff were very rude. We were asked to leave the pushchair outside which we didn't do as it contains everything needed for the baby. The staff appeared to keep talking about us and pointing at our table. As we were about to leave staff came over and started to clear the tables and basically pushed us off the table. Such poor customer service. It's a shame as only cafe on the site, but I would suggest getting in your road and going elsewhere.

Really good variety of food & drinks. Hot dog from the shack outside and a hot chocolate after a long autumn walk well needed.

We visited on a mad busy day with 18 people and 4 dogs. We lost one of the dogs on the walk but when we got to the restaurant we discovered that the lovely lady in charge of the restaurant had taken the dog into her office and was looking after him!!! How kind! The tea and cakes were fine - particularly the hot chocolate. When the time came got the lace to close she asked people to leave in the nicest way I've ever experienced - and after what had obviously been a manic day. Well done!

We're members of Westonburt, but don't visit the restaurant much. Realistically it's much like a work canteen. The food is unimaginative (sandwiches, soups), basic, and overpriced for what it is. If you're desperate for a bite to eat or a hot drink, it's about tolerable, but it's nothing special and has no atmosphere. Because it's "family friendly", the place can be a right tip, as people leave tables in a terrible state. With relatively few staff, you often end up clearing a table yourself. There is so much you could do with this place. It could be so much nicer.

Been to westonbirt this morning and café is a fab looking building. It was fine when we were there but we were there early. There are other catering vans about to. Great kids play area.

Although we visited the Arboretum in October, at probably one of their busiest days, we had a good lunch, the food was well cooked and nicely presented. Considering how busy it was, the service was very good.

All staff need training poor quality food chefs and mangers need to be more organised !!! Had to wait a long time and staff were rude place looks like it's run by monkeys. Advise take your own food and drinks.. the only decent thing about the place was the fish and chip van very well organised and a friendly chef... we will return but not to eat unless the chip van is there...

We ate at the restaurant on Saturday 22nd October 2016. This must have been one of the busiest days of the year with thousands of visitors at Westonbirt Arboretum to see the autumn colours swelled by the fact it was the beginning of half term and the weather was good.Normally you would expect a restaurant in such a busy location to have bog standard poorish expensive food but I am pleased to say that in spite of the fact that it was crowded the food was good and the service not bad at all. We had the chicken pie with mash and cabbage and it was very tasty. We will use it again when we revisit in the spring.

The cafe (not the restaurant) has a limited menu, snacks, sandwiches and soup plus hot and cold drinks. There is a pleasant seating area but we did not find the food very pleasant, in fact we left some of it (a very rare event for us) Sandwiches were dry and mushroom soup had little taste.

We live just up the road and I’m always impressed with how lovely the service is plus a great veggie pizza with tonnes of toppings , it fills the void and I will never stop visiting when it’s time for a cheeky little treat. Goes brilliant with football or movie night. Thanks guys ❤️

Myself, my grandchildren and my children eat here at least every few weeks. The service is fantastic, and the food is always well prepared and served. It has a lovely atmosphere and we love going here. The children enjoy it and you feel very comfortable taking children in. If anyone in management reads these reviews can I please recommend that you put scotch eggs back onto your menu. We always have them as a starter and they are one of the best I have ever tasted. Unfortunately this time we saw it had been removed, also unfortunately there was nothing else any of us could find on the starters so we all ended up having no starter at all. This was a real shame and meant we spent less than we normally would have done with yourselves.
