We came here as a party of 30+ over £500+ spent on the bar. Very disappointed to feel Like we were a pain and a nuisance to the team, constant eye rolls and tutting Waiting long time for drinks and no smile with service. Good(buffet) was amazing. Server I am referring mainly to I am told is called Rihanna. Our younger ones were in the bar area at 10.15 playing pool to be told this bar is now closing and u can go back next door and order one more drink!! I have spoken to the man who said was in charge and he acknowledged this was out of order. Still can’t help feeling aggrieved at how unwelcome we were made to feel. Even as I write this we are having eye rolls and sighing. Very disappointed for my mother in law who’s 70th it was and she was let down! Not happy at all.

When we walked in lunchtime, I could tell this is a local residents pub , it was also very quiet just a handful of people. This was Ok, food wise was lovely . My friend had Macaroni cheese, very well presented with chopped spring onions on top.Etc. My husband and I shared a Chicken platter. Delicious with dips. Tender meat. The salad was well prepared chopped and delicious with a tasty dressing. My friends sweet chilli linguine was flavoured beautifully.

Our group of walkers visited the Western Arms for lunch today. A warm welcome, with a good range of beers including traditional hand pumped Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen. A good range of pub style reasonably priced food on the menu, which apparently is under review. The service wasn’t particularly quick, but it was pleasantly executed and worth the wait. Between the ten walkers we enjoyed six different meals plus three different desserts. We are happy to recommend the Western Arms and we look forward to returning before too long.

Like a previous reviewer. we visited on Sunday, 4th July. Quite a long wait before our order taken, and then a further 35 minute wait for carveries to arrive. Our Yorkies were also burnt - we just didn't eat that part, but poor quality control in allowing that to be served. The stuffing balls were also crunchy and overcooked. The rest of the food was fine, although the belly pork portion was pretty small, and even the peas were still hard.

This is my local pub, it has never really been that nice if I’m honest it was always empty, not much atmosphere and lots of visiting traveller families however that is no longer the case. Personally I think it could still do with a few more customers thru the door but the food here is now as it should be. I have had their burgers and they always come out as I want and the last two trips which were this month I had gammon, chips and eggs and it was about as perfect as I could have hoped. It was a nice thick piece of gammon and the eggs were cooked perfectly which is so rare for a pub these days but they do it like that every time I’ve ordered. I’ve tried the pizzas and my family have ordered the scampi and several other dishes which consistently come out well. Silver End is a quiet village and perhaps people haven’t been in for how it used to be but please take it from someone who is very fussy when it comes to food. The beers clean, the staff are friendly and the food is exactly how you would want it to be, I will keep going and I suggest you try it too.

After an amazing refit the Western Arms looked amazing. I had booked the pub for a large lunch time party. The staff was very helpful. Heather couldn’t do enough for us. She bright, polite and cheerful. The food was excellent. There was plenty of choice for our special dietary needs. Last year we had book a table for our Writing Group Christmas Lunch and was very happy with the food and service. This year we were just as pleased too. We look forward to returning again next year. Took my 90 year old Mum here today; we have been here before and know it is a basic restaurant. Arrived about 12:20 the barman was welcoming, but he was eating his lunch at the bar with mayonnaise on his face. Mum had a Senior's ham, egg & chips, although there was plenty of ham it was rather tough for her. The barman was attentive, although I think we could have done without his singing. When we left the barman was topping up bottles of Heinz Mayonnaise from a large tub which although it stated it was low fat mayonnaise did not have the Heinz name on it! I was concerned as to whether the bottles had been cleaned. The bill was very reasonable but I think we will find somewhere else to eat in future.

We have lived in the village (Silver End) for more than 20 years. Our first visit to the Western Arms was a very long time ago and we were far from impressed. The current administration has provided a quiet and well appointed restaurant area, away from the public bar where my pet hate (loud television with football showing) is inaudible. Score 10 out of 10 for that!Although slightly confusing, the menu is extensive and caters for most tastes and allergies. We had a starter of spicy chicken strips followed by pork belly which was exquisite.Pricing is very reasonable and the service friendly and efficient. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

We have used this pub several times, but the last couple haven't been so great. Last night we stopped of for a meal and wish we hadn't. The pub was empty except for 2 other tables. We ordered food and received it within a reasonable amount of time. I had ordered a beef Yorkshire wrap. It came out with sage & onion stuffing which is meant for the chicken one. I did try to eat it but it really didn't go so I returned it. I shouldn't have bothered, the beef 2nd time round was as tough as anything and I didn't bother eating it. My husband ordered a mixed grill, it was all over cooked. I wish we had taken a picture at how dry the steak, gammon and chicken was. When we were asked if the food was ok, we got a mumbled "ohh I'll tell the kitchen" and nothing further was said. I understand that you won't get perfect every time, but this was very poor. Won't bother coming back again.

I visited here with my family as a member had came to visit from overseas, special occasion to say the least. Slow drinks service and unwilling staff members on the bar. Due to there being a large group of us we disregarded the hour and forty five minute wait we had, when the food finally arrived it was diabolical. I ate the roast and I would put £100 on all of the ingredients being purchased from the frozen section in Aldi, nothing wrong with Aldi but not when served somewhere that classes itself as a restaurant. Ignored the poor quality meals and even ordered desserts. One knickerbockerglory and one mint sundae. 30 minutes later.. the mint sundae was beautiful.. the knickerbockerglory was what I can only describe as milk and fruit.. when I asked for my money back the waitress went and spoke to her manager who refused to refund me. The poor girl was mortified as she could clearly see that the dessert was abysmal. The thing that enraged me the most is that the 'manager' refused to even speak to me and sent somebody else to take the fall. You're better off putting your money down the drain.

Birthday meal for 9 year old granddaughter who lives in the village , 5 adults 4 children , one under 2 . Arrived at 5.45pm for a booked table ,which due to the short notice was in the middle of the main bar area . The pub was already quite busy , as was the restaurant /dining area on the other side of the pub . Meals and drinks ordered at 6.10pm , the waitress /barmaid , a trainee , read the order back to make sure it was right . Within a few minutes all the drinks were served at the table . No starters were ordered and by 6.30pm all the mains were being served . Quite rare to see meals that actually looked like the advertising . The Burgers were stacked high in the buns and my own surf and turf was nicely cooked bit of rump with no fat or gristle , southern fried chicken skewer and scampi served with chips , peas , tomato and mushrooms .Children's meals were a good enough size . Bottle of wine for under £10 , pint of Strongbow was £1 as they took it as part of one of the burger meals . Children's meals came with dessert and as we were all quite full from the mains only one extra dessert ordered . They were accommodating about letting the granddaughter have her own cake and candles lit . Total bill £80 which for the number in the party , size of portions and standard of food was very good . The pub started to get busy , so a shame we couldn't get in the dining area proper , but at least they managed to accommodate us .The garden area is spacious with plenty of things to keep children occupied in good weather . Outside lean to for smokers . Bottom line is that this is a pub serving good honest , no nonsense pub grub , good sized portions at a reasonable price . Certainly wouldn't hesitate to go again , a good place for families who don't want a formal atmosphere . I couldn't honestly say how they would cope with a bigger party as the dining area is quite small with only large large table for parties .

Me and my family regularly eat at this restaurant. Although the only reason we keep returning is due to the new management. Apart from Dale who has just taken over the management this place would go down hill!! All other staff are rude, non sympathetic and un sure of the meaning of customer service! Repeated times that our drinks have been 'forgotten' and our orders have been wrong and taken over an hour to wait! Without any warning of the length of time. Dale is an absolute credit to the team! Visited the Western Arms with friends for a casual evening drink. First impressions were that it has been recently refurbished and featured a small, quaint bar.First thing that hit me was the rowdiness of the bar, voices really seem to travel - as do the locals. We then discovered there was another bar/restaurant area which was much more relaxed environment with 80's classics playing in the background.A friend wanted to try the food but upon ordering he found that the kitchen had closed - however the helpful staff decided to re-open the kitchen...they were eager to please and were very helpful and well mannered.Facilities include a pool table, darts, numerous Sky Sports TV's, a kids play area, and a separate beer garden to the side. Historical features abound in this wonderful little pub - an old water pump stands proudly outside beside a war memorial - the restaurant also features newspaper clippings from the war.Food prices are very reasonable. and there is a small but tasty selection of ales and lagers available.I look forward to going back soon.

I visited this pub a couple of years ago with a mate who lives in the village, just for a few beers while watching the football and thought it was a bit of a dive but they said it has recently re opened after being shut down for months, so we poped in and had dinner for six of us. The staff were great and no complaints from any of us about the food, will definitely go back, keep up the hard work

Visited for the works Christmas meal, management were friendly enough but waiting staff looked grumpy as hell. Starter of soup, was clearly tinned soup and of a cheap brand, came with standard white bread, and butter which was so hard you could snap it, yet wasn't cold so not sure what that was. Main was butternut squash roast - cauliflower cheese had been boiled to the point it tasted of nothing but water, and I'm pretty sure the cheese was some sort of dairylea type thing, potatoes were microwaved, Brussels okay and the butternut squash part was also okay, not great though. Dessert of Erin mess - probably about a teaspoon of meringue, no berries except a teaspoons worth of sauce type stuff on top and then mostly just some sort of cream paste, grey in colour and made me feel sick. No atmosphere, lots of young men in dirty tracksuits and old men staring at people.

We visited this pub after a church service nearby. The congregation had already booked a meal there so we called ahead and booked a table also. On booking we were asked if we would mind sitting in the bar area if the restaurant area was full, which we said was fine. When we got there we were seated quickly in the restaurant area, and we were the only one's in! It eventually filled a little more when the congregation arrived by which time we were on the starters. Food was nice and hot and was served quickly. The children's meal was very good value for money! Our meal was also nice but not of the best quality as the chicken was a little dry. The price we paid was a fair price however. After the meal we spent some time in the beer garden in the back which on a summers day would be great, with enough room for the kids to run around and a great children's play area. Would definitely go back here in the summer.

Fantastic, friendly staff, lovely clean restaurant, unfortunately food left a lot to be desired. Tried Western Arms 3 times now and have been left disappointed. Not a fan of microwaved roast potatoes, and burnt parsnips. Can not knock the waiting staff as they were very accomdating.

Absolutely terrible. Disgusting place, filthy. Food was literally the worst I have ever tasted, and I do really mean that. Beer was so over priced and tasted watered down. And I saw someone making a drug deal in the corner of the pub. Absolute joke.

The Western Arms is actually in Silver End.Lovely pub. Lovely staff and lovely food. Green King ales. Well looked after. (Often surprising in this day and age). (So someone knows how to run a cellar)Garden out back for children. Can't comment about that as stayed inside.Food pretty standard pub fare, but that's exactly what you'd want and expect from a country pub. Nobody really goes to a quiet country pub for sea bass with pomegranates or sharks brain with turnip purée do they? First came here when Silver End started to grow back in the mid seventies. (Bought a house there). It was a great pub then and I'm pleased to say it's still a great pub now. Albeit with different staff. (Obviously).

The staff here are nice and looked after the kids, ensuring they were occupied whilst waiting for their meals. It has recently changed hands and it's clear lots of work went into it. The dinner was ok, pudding was much much nicer! A lovely place

My wife and I had lunch at this pub today and found the beer good & cold, the staff accommodating and friendly. I enjoyed the fish & chips and she enjoyed her ham & eggs. Had a nice chat with the manager and found it to be a cheerful place. I would recommend it without hesitation.

I turned up in this shady little corner of hell desperate for some cheap food, after paying I realised the mess, the guy working must have killed a pigeon and stuck it on a pizza, I can only guess that's what he did because that's what the pizza tasted like. Would not recommend ruining your appetite here.

I have been to Cherry Tree both before and after the management has changed. I like the cosy feel of the interior. Staff friendly and attentive, tables nice and clean. Food was good, but I wasn't "wowed". Good value for money though. I guess it's more of a place to pop out for a drink than to have a full-on lunch or dinner.
