Absoultley shocking customer service. Poor attitude from the moment you enter no greetings, no manners, no please or thank you . Even small requests are met with huffs, puffs and eye rolling. These people should not be in business. Requested a minor alteration to the order and the miserable cow behind the counter deliberatley soaked the chips in tons of vingegar in a spiteful way. I refused them and requested another portion..she threw the chips angrily in the bin and said how would you like to be here doing my job?thats not the point though, service should come with a smile manners cost nothing. She clearly hates her job and the attitude on both her and the man is hostile from the start. Shut this place down. Awful experience will never return.

the chips were raw and the curry sauce was really chunky and had a gross texture, not to mention the 4 strands of hair that we found buried beneath the chips. overall the food didn't taste bad, the workers were polite and the sausage had no problem.

Expensive for plain burgers and small portion would never recommend or go back the staff don't look interested

Disappointed. I used to eat here regularly and always good. Tonight we ordered cod and chips for both of us. Was a bit worried to see lots of pre cooked fish in the cabinet but the fish looked good. Upon eating, it was bad. There was more batter than fish and it was saturated with fat. We both felt queasy and couldn’t eat it all. The chips were not good, badly cooked and like the fish fat saturated. This meal was meant to be a treat and we were left feeling queasy and massively disappointed. I went out of my way to visit this chip shop….not likely to do it again.

Great take out fish, chips, and more while on a walking break in Brecon with friends. Good food and service. Very hoopoe with the selection beyond fish - but the fish was great too!

Quick stop on our way home (3 miles away) for chips. Been here before but not for a while, the BEST chips from a fish and chip shop EVER! Beautiful texture and flavour, huge portions. Sorry, no photo, didn't get a chance! :)

Stunning food, excellent service and spotlessly clean premises. Fast service even with a queue! The staff are very friendly and efficient. I most certainly recommend this establishment.

Initially on walking in we were Ignored by the two ladies stood behind the counter who weren't very welcoming!! The strong smell of bleach was really off putting. The fish batter was soggy and the chips were under-cooked....one would describe them as anemic!!!!

2 portions of fish and chips was enough for 4 people. Will only need one portion for 2 people in future.

Wow, Moby Dick and chips twice. Really generously sized fish and chips, nicely cooked light batter and plenty of chips. Just be warned, they only take cash but have a free cash machine in the corner.

I really don’t know where to start… £22 Down the drain, or in the bin in Brecon park. The sausage ( or what ever it was) was disgusting, I couldn’t eat it so gave it to my dog and she was actually sick! Chicken burger was squishy. Kids meal was ok and chips ok. It was so busy , were just the unlucky ones. Surely they can’t keep serving this standard of food constantly. Just happy the ice cream shop wasn’t too far away to take the taste out of my mouth. 😂😂

Inedible cold hard chips, the pie was OK as it hadn't been made by them! There was hardly any potato in the potato fritter. This place used to be good but the current owners have run it into the ground. Cash only too, that says a lot about how the company operates!

Called in tonight for food and was not impressed it was greasy no flavour and cold to say the least would not recommend going to this place as food standard is not very good at all AVOID AT All COSTS

Worst fish & chips I’ve ever had. Bought 4 cod & chips. Chips were undercooked & soggy. Fish dry, tasteless & inedible (all 4 portions) batter soggy (couldn’t cut through it and was stretchy when tried to pull it apart) There was a pile of cooked fish so I’m guessing they cook lots in anticipation of sales. Spent over £30 most of it went in bin. Very annoying.

Fish and chips were fine, batter a bit undercooked but edible. Fills a gap but if you are fussy then I’d avoid. Served quickly however cash only which is a real pain and kind of inexplicable these days.

No signs to state it anywhere, so after ordering food we were told it was cash only. Even big issue sellers except card payment, especially during a pandemic this seems very bizarre. The food looked like it would be lovely but unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to try!

this is a really good fish and chip shop. We eat here whenever we travel to Brecon and climb in the mountains. We have always had excellent fish and chips here. Nice outdoor seating just off the pavement. Follow up with dessert at the Llanfaes dairy ice cream cafe a few doors away, what could be better? Well done guys and thankyou

Arrived here at 2120 on a Friday night to find it closed. However the lovely staff took pity on us and gave us what they had left. Very much appreciated by some hungry and tired campers!

Pulled in for a quick meal, fish and chips! Lovely chips but fish and batter was disgusting inedible. Had ordered but then saw lady wringing the water or whatever off the fish before dipping into batter! Won't be calling again

Not a lot of choice of fish, well in fact cod only. However, all cooked well including the chips (no question of chips being undercooked as others have complained about. It was well frequented on a Wednesday evening so locals seemed happy with what was on offer.

Although the meal was hot and fresh, unfortunately the chips were still raw and were hard and crunchy when chewing them. We returned and informed the staff straight away and they replaced all meals but the chips were still the same.

Best fish and chips ever! Chips were perfect, the batter on the fish was nice and crisp, not too greasy either! 😋

Had high hopes after reading the good reviews but Fish was ok and chips We’re a bit soggy. Not impressed by the curry sauce and the mushy peas, both were bland

I would recommend West End Fish Bar to anyone in Brecon or passing through. The staff clearly enjoy interacting with customers and the food is alway excellent. I recommend the cheesy chips and curry. Ask for their special chicken curry.

My husband had fish and chips. Staff were excellent didn’t have to wait. Fish was nice and fresh. Would definitely call again.

Called in lunchtime today, one person in front of me being served, lots of everything in the hot trays ready for customers . Lovely fish and chips eaten out of the paper, usual good standard. Passing by an hour or so later customers are social distance queuing out along the pavement waiting patiently to get food. We will call in again when we are passing.

Worst ever meal tonight. Fish batter over cooked and greasy, two small pieces of fish put together instead of one nice fillet you would expect. Chips definitely not fresh so unable to eat meal rang my mother who I got fish and chips for and hers was as bad,my wife also unable to eat her chips the only things edible out of the order were my wife’s battered jumbo and curry sauce

Looking for lunch on a cold damp Saturday in Brecon. Three portions of fish bites and chips and we thought we had found heaven. The bites were just fabulous, crispy batter around lovely fishy fingers and some of the, no, the best chip shop chips I have ever eaten! Yum McScrum!! I don’t know how they do their batter but it was perfect all crunchy and no horrid soggy underwear. They deserve to be packed day and night!

Radio was too loud couldnt hear the workers. Asked for my food but forgot the 7 sausages i orded with chips.

Vile discoloured fish with a dodgy taste covered in horrible soggy slippery batter. Chips equally unappetising. Tried to short-change me by a pound. I counted change again and the man stared at me and finally gave me the missing pound without a word. I would not revisit however hungry.... What a pitya

Whenever we’re back in the Beacons visiting family, we always aim to get Fish & Chips on the first night. For years, Westend Fish Bar has been our go-to: the staff are always friendly and helpful, very reasonably priced and the food is often cooked to order so it’s fresh. Can’t fault it!

After my initial review in 2016 in which I said that it was excellent I now find that it has going downhill to such an extent that I haven't been back for over 6 weeks. The chips have no colour the fish doesn't taste very nice and and the colour of the batter and texture needs a lot to be expected. I don't think I'll be returning for a long long time.

Sorry to say that our visit o Friday was far below the standard we would expect, especially as this place used to be so good. A wet clump of soggy chips,topped off with soggy fish. So disappointing

(Unpleasant) Greasy, flabby, room temperature chips, possibly not cooked for long enough or in oil lacking sufficient temperature. Even salt & vinegar couldn’t rescue this shambles of a meal. The large catering sausage was provided by default having run out of the smaller size- I expected to pay for smaller version, charged for large! (A skilful sales plan methinks)Decided, a few mouthfuls was enough, contemplated tossing for the birds, though dispatched instead into a Brecon council public bin! Small positive- no styrofoam, old stool paper wrapping! (Which helped absorbed some excessive oil)

Waste of £12 odd feeding the family as none of us ate them all. They were soggy, pale, bland chips and the fish was bland along with the fish bites, the best thing was the curry sauce, but that's no good without chips. I've used this chip shop for years but won't be rushing back now.

Served by miserable female member of staff that quite obviously hated her job and people who came in to the shop. Food was very poor, pie had hardly any filling, fish was hard and rubbery with soggy sodden batter), sausage was inedible and even the dog refused to eat and chips were hard (maybe not fully cooked) and maybe just dropped in cold fat as were literally dripping. Only good part was curry sauce - all that came to over £15 so as most was thrown in bin tuned out to be a very expensive meal and ended up going home and making our own food.

Never had a poor meal from here. I had to reduce my frequent trips as o was eating too many portions of fish & chips!!! Food is usually fresh, well cooked and tasty. You can telephone order for collection.

Saw some good reviews so thought tried cod and chips for lunch. The fish tasted bland and not fresh. Chips was ok, nothing special.

Hands down the best chippy for miles around & one of the better ones I’ve had in a while. All the food was cooked fresh, so yes we waited a bit longer then normal but not by much and well worth it. Can’t say if if it’s cooked freshly all the time. If you want some fast food, that’s cooked fresh and cheap then look no further.

Planned to have fish and chips all day , live in bewdley and having looked at reviews for best fish and chips this was our number 1 choice and we were not disappointed !!! Perfectly chunky chips and succulent flakey fish , hit the spot well done guys Even the dog enjoyed her well earned sausage

Passed this place so many times and always look busy so we called in, so disappointed! The fish was so small and even though it was only £5.50 it so wasn't worth it and the curry was tasteless. We won't be going back.

£8.30 for the worst cod and chips I have ever had. The batter was so soggy it came off on the paper and the chips. The raw chips needed to be cooked properly. Will never visit again

I'm one of these people who, when they're away, end up craving a fish and chips.... Sadly more often than not I'm disappointed, but not this time..!! Lovely fresh flakey cod and nice chips, also well portioned and priced...

Seeing it had good reviews already we were looking for a last days camping meal to ease the washing up and we weren’t disappointed.

I went here today and had chips and curry sauce, I didn't like the chips at all.. to me they are too chunky. Didn't have a lot of curry sauce either - sorry wouldn't return. The shop was nice and clean

Hoy (lunes 29) y podía ver los peces había estado allí por un tiempo, así que solo pedimos cortésmente si podía tener un pescado fresco y me fue creado con un simple. . . No. . . aviso a todos para asegurarse de que sus peces verifica cuánto tiempo ha estado allí para:).

You'll do well to find a better chip shop in Brecon. Nice, clean shop and the food is of a very good standard.

The fish and chips are really great here.Its a very busy little shop so everything is cooked really fresh . Spoil yourself and visit the ice cream shop just up the road afterwards for a pudding!

I have visited on numerous occasions and the quality has been consistently good. Service is prompt and efficient. Best chips in town. Public car park near by

Fuimos en camino para volar cena y no me decepcionó. Aparcamiento al lado era gratuito con unos 30 espacios era un extra, y la tienda estaba ocupado con ser 7 pm Viernes. La comida era muy fresco y bien caliente. El pescado era excelente y el rollo de primavera email sabrosa y ligeramente picante. Las patatas fritas eran muy caliente si realmente probar la patata. Precioso cosas y servicio eficiente y amable.

Mi pareja y yo compramos pescado y patatas fritas de aquí después de llegar en la noche para una estancia de fin de semana. El personal era muy amable y la comida era buenísima y muy razonable sin duda vale la pena una cena de...

Lovely and clean, food always freshly made great portion of chips, love the Irish Curry. fish bites are expensive though was charged 1.20 per bite and they come in a portion of 4 so that was £4.80 and they are only small, other than that love this fish bar.

Westend Fish Bar laver en ganske god fish and chips. Fisken er sprød og har en dejlig smag af fisk. Prisen er i den billige ende.

This place seemed to attract lots of locals so we tried it out on our last night. There was no waiting as they provided a very large battered fillet and tray of nicely cooked chips. Almost too much but I managed to eat it all - just. (We went down and sat on a seat on the promenade to eat it for the right atmosphere).

Popped in here during a two night stay in Brecon and, judging by the number of locals queuing inside it must be reasonably good. We (wife & myself) normally order two pieces of cod, one portion of chips, & mushy peas at most chippys & this is what we did here. The standard chip portion size we had was frankly enormous. The cod was nice & flaky inside with no uncooked batter. The peas were also very good. Probably the best chippy in Brecon.

The actual fish was fine, although the batter was a bit soggy in places. The chips were, unfortunately pretty poor/flobby though, felt like the oil wasn't hot enough and/or they weren't cooked for long enough.

I love this chippy don't know y all the bad comes and one of the most recent one on here if u live a few doors down u will know it was taken over yrs ago and one person said about the ''grumpy old woman'' she is actually very nice now on to the food always cooked well fish is amazing I would recommend the chicken curry half n half or all rice or all chips to die for

Lovely fish and chips. Plenty of variety pies sausages just what you'd expect from a good fish and chip shop. Only one thing I prefer haddock to any other fish and there is never any available.

This fish bar used to sell delicious fish and chips, the best in town! Unfortunately when it got taken over by someone else the food is not as tasty. We still go here now and again for fish and chips because it is easy as we live a couple doors down, but the fish always seems tasteless and soggy, the chips are okay but its hard to go wrong with chips. They have a lot to choose from which is great, you could have fish and chips or a burger or a pizza etc. Staff seem friendly enough.

A generic, standard fish and chip shop as expected. The chips were okay but not very fresh or any special flavor. The fish was nice and the mushy peas were fine. Nothing to rave, about which is a shame as the location is great.

Called in for cod and chips, had to wait a few minutes for the fish to finish frying but it was worth it. Nice piece of cod a huge portion of chips, topped off with a gerkin.lovely

In all fairness the place is clean and tidy and the food is pretty good too. The problem with the place is the old grumpy woman who wears glasses and chews gum. She's very rude and abrupt to customers and even more shocking..... Her fellow work colleagues. I was in there recently and she was having a go at one of the younger members of staff who was being polite to customers. I didn't fancy a portion of chips on my head so I said nothing but I think the owners should put her in her "plaice" and knock that chip off her shoulder.

Whilst staying locally, we ordered for 17 people. Prepared and ready for collection when it was supposed to be and went down well with the whole group

The chips were too insipid for me, very pale and a little soggy. Fair play, this is probably the "house style" but for me they need a bit more colour in them. Nice enough fish though here again fingers of batter spoiled it a bit for me. Batter should cover the fish not be a thing in itself. Though out of the row of golden fish I think I got the less perfect one. Yes, nice enough, just nothing out of the ordinary today I'm afraid. Good value though.

The chips here are lovely and the portions are very generous. The prices are reasonable and with the portion size its value for money. My favourite chip shop in the area!

Could not fault the quality of the fish which was freshly cooked and served hot. Stumbled across this cafe with outdoor seating but will choose to return.

Best fish i have tasted. Very clean establishment and staff are friendly. There is lots to choose from the menu and all very tasty. We have been going there for a long time and never any complaints

Took a chance and dropped in as visitors. Really disappointed. A wasted £17. The fish and chips were dry and tasteless. The batter was so greasy we had a plate of left over soggy batter. Nothing nice about the experience. Take a chance yourself or be advised and go elsewhere. Had plenty of good and bad fish and chips. I do not think this is just down to personal preference. It was just a down right unpleasant experience.

I was absolutely gob-smacked at how gorgeous the chicken breast was - so so tasty and not just smothered in grease and salt, just really tasty chicken, just a real shame about some of the staff in there - not a single smile and rather miserable atmosphere and to top it off the chips are far too soggy and not due to the vinegar!!
