Big spacious cafe in the heart of Westminster. Salads, quiche, that kind of thing, plus specials. It is underground, so there is no view, but there feelings are high and the whole feels calm, which is welcome in the heart of the city. what it is not is convivial, if you want that too to old queen st. Equally if you want table service choose Westminster Abbey cafe.

No bad experience with staff and the cafe is nice but the food is not at all. Bad cafe food, honestly tastes like stuff you’d get at sainsburys which isn’t a compliment. We arrived for lunch. Having found a table we went to get our hot food and drinks. After choosing our lunch we had to go to the coffee counter to pay and joined a queue of people who were buying drinks as the other till was unmanned. By the time we paid for our food and got our hot drinks are meals were no longer hot. The manager on duty was telling off the staff within our hearing for not manning the coffee counter. We couldn't get a decaf tea and the manager was brusque and dismissive when asked where the cutlery was. Would think twice about going back.

I as brought up as a Methodist and went to events in the Hall above when a student in London. I knew that it would be a clean and safe place, with clean toilets, and it was. You can get a coffee from just inside the entrance, and sit on tables outside. Downstairs is a large restaurant serving meals and snacks. I had a quiche with chips. Yesterday I paid £6.15 for a coffee and a mince pie! At these extortionate prices how can normal people afford to eat and drink at a cafe that is supposed to be the welcoming community space for the Methodist Church in London? The prices are en par with Harrods and Fortnum's - it seems to me that the management are deliberately charging as much as possible as a disincentive for less wealthy parishioners to enjoy the church's facilities whilst trying to maximise profits from unsuspecting tourists, well good luck to them I won't be going back.

I was delighted to find this peaceful dining hall in the Methodist Central Hall basement, just across the road from the Abbey. It's been a few months and I can't remember what I ate, but it was delicious, and quite reasonably priced. When I was there, the cafe wasn't crowded. You would not know the cafe existed but for a small sandwich board outside, though if you are attending many of the conferences or concerts that happen in the building then you would know. The cafe is situated in a prime location in the basement of the hugely impressive Westminster Central Hall, a Grade 1 listed building overlooking the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. The building is the HQ of the Methodist Church of the UK and is still home to a worshipping congregation. The first ever sitting of the United Nations took place in its main hall. The cafe should would be better called a canteen as there is little intimacy and long joined-up tables. They offer a fresh menu each day with a meat, fish or veggie main course, a soup of the day, help yourself salad bar, cold soft drinks (no alcohol permitted) and desserts. It's good fayre, tasty and piping hot...most of the time but it's hit and miss whether they are on form when you visit ( and I have on a number of times). The food is average, though, especially in the face of the many eateries around it and I think quite expensive for the overall dining experience. It is a noisy canteen with little or no ambience that would make you want to linger. It is really for passers-through.

We tried Wesley after an Abbey tour. Big mistake. My hamburger was dense and quite tasteless, served with cold (unintended) pasta and soggy fries. The bun literally disintegrated into dry fragments and the cheese was bland and again, tasteless. The onion garnish was the sole redeeming feature. My wife's stuffed portobello was tasty enough but lukewarm and blobby. The "cafeteria" style dining area was adequate with hard chairs and institutional tables. Wesley's Cafe sounded like the perfect choice after reading mostly good reviews on TripAdvisor, and it was close-by.Unfortunately, one of the only bad reviews turned out to be the correct one. £6 for a lukewarm, dry jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise, accompanied with brown, dried out cucumber slices and dodgy looking tomatoes and cress. How long does cucumber have to be left out before the surface completely dries out and resembles a piece of browny-green leather? And are the servers too gormless to realise, or simply don't care? For tourists, business people, civil servants, students or any other visitor or groups of visitors to the Westminster 'attractions' this is the best place for anything from a quick coffee and snack to a full blown home cooked meal. It's adjacent to Parliament Square & the QE2 Conference Centre, opposite Westminster Abbey & midway between Westminster and St James' tube stations. Its unlikely presence (downstairs from the imposing entrance to the Methodist Central Hall) is signified by a wholly understated chalk board on the steps/pavement outside. Don't be put off by that clumsy looking "Cafe" sign (as I was for many years). Here is a large refectory-like, mainly self service restaurant with lots of long tables, high ceilings and comfortable chairs; an ideal meeting place and the toilets are equally large, accessible and amenable. The cooked lunches and breakfasts are all well presented and certainly good value for central London; so too the healthy eating options.Chilled drinking water is freely available as well. You will see a wide variety of customers, many with nothing more than a pot of tea and a plugged-in lap-top or phone; signal is good which is why the high ceilings are handy. It's still a peaceful place to meet, greet and eat. The light blue jacketed chaps in the entrance area are really very nice in directing visitors to the cafe downstairs. There are other attractions in Central Hall, of course; not least its history and the grandeur of the building itself. But that's not the purpose of this review.

I have visited this cafe several times when in the vicinity of London. It is situated in a good location, on the opposite side of the road to Westminster Abbey, on the lower ground floor of Methodist Central Hall, just off Parliament Square. It serves a wide variety of hot and cold food at reasonable prices. It has a large seating area, so finding a seat should not be difficult but I always try and sit in the conservatory area, as it feels more inviting with natural light. The service can be slow at times but otherwise a good place to get a cup of tea or something more substantial. Toilets are on the same level, just outside the cafe area.

What a great place to visit for good food or just a nice cup of tea while visiting the sights in london..Over the road from westminster abbey made it a perfect place to get out of the rain....A beautiful building to visit on its own,we stumbled into the cafe to escape the wet weather and will certainly return, good food at very good prices in a lovely and comfortable dining room in the basement..

Watch out. The central hall is an excellent venue as well as being an important building in its own right. The restaurant is a pleasant room. However, I would advise you to look very carefully at the food before purchasing, The menu is somewhat restricted and the food we bought initially looked fine, and, as another reviewer mention, well presented at the counter, but was very disappointing once we started actually eating luke warm and over cooked in the traditional British style one now rarely sees outside publicly owned tourist attractions. The feeling of being let down was even greater after an excellent exhibition and tour of the building.

We hired the mezzanine level for our Christmas party. We had 40 guests in attendance. Everything went so well, I cannot believe how hard the team worked to keep all our guests happy. I am sure they were exhausted at the end but honestly they worked unbelievably hard and did the best job. They were so attentive to everything – they kept the drinks flowing, and made everything look so organised. I had so many compliments from our guests – many more than I have ever had before. It was obvious that everyone went the extra mile to make the evening perfect and it really was perfect. The food was fantastic, everyone loved the sharing platters. I tasted a lot of the vegan menu too as there was so much food and it was delicious as well. The room was beautifully decorated, and we had lots of room to mingle and chat. There have already been requests to come back here next year, thank you so much to everyone who made the night perfect.

Vi bestilte både forrett, middag og dessert. Forskjellige retter og alt smakte fortreffelig. Dette er en svært god restaurant med meget vennlig service. Anbefales på det sterkeste.

We were given this afternoon tea as a present. The menu for the afternoon tea looks good... but fails to deliver. "Mini brioche and sandwiches Ham, cheddar and mustard Chicken and pesto Cucumber, crème fraiche and smoked salmon Egg mayonnaise and cress." What we actually got was four very small squares of sandwich each, consisting of just the smoked salmon and the egg mayonnaise. Some small cakes as described and a scone. Some of the bread was not the freshest we've ever had, not stale, just not as soft as fresh bread. We were only offered one cup of tea or coffee. Every other afternoon tea we've had at other venues at least offered us additional drinks. It's not as if the place was busy, there were only a few occupied tables. As for atmosphere and ambiance, there was none, especially as the cleaner was hoovering around us and then using a floor polisher.
