Afternoon tea used to be a lot better. The fact that you now only have a time window of 1 hour is a bit bold and completely unacceptable for an afternoon tea in this price range.

It is a really elegant and luxurious lounge. This sophisticated and welcoming place is located in one of the most prestigious areas of London, just a few minutes away from Buckingham Palace. We stayed here on business, enjoying the magnificent views of the city centre and aromatic coffee. It was one of the most memorable experience we’ve had in London.

The place bills different than listed in their menu. Upon asking about the reason, they said that they had not updated their menu because doing so “was too expensive”. Since I already had paid, there was no much to be done - no that they offered any options to remedy the problem. It is incredibly disrespectful to overcharged customers after having decided based on the menu provided by them at the place. The venue should advise customers of price changes not reflected on the menu before taking orders, especially if they are higher. Hopefully there will more transparency from now on. Many thanks.

An Ode to Cornwall afternoon tea was a truly tasty treat in tranquil surroundings with the piano playing peacefully in the background. It was nice to have the thought and feeling produced within the meal with such detail in the desserts. A truly tantalising taste experience which looked divine. Came here for dinner and drinks to meet a friend. For a 5 star hotel I was expecting better service. We were initially sat at a table by a member of staff and then told we had to move as this was reserved. We were then sat at another table which wasn’t laid with cutlery napkins etc and we had to ask for this after waiting some time. Food and drinks then took a while to come after being ordered and it was not busy. We still had a lovely time but the service didn’t meet expectations.

Great place for a spot of tea! Afternoon tea is decadent, well presented, and overall amazing. On request, you can get a second order of your favorite bites. Staff are always on hand to help and service is prompt, but not rushed in any way. The lounge itself is on the main floor, so there are no views and you can hear the hustle and bustle of the lobby. However, it's a refined, and luxurious space. Definitely one of the top spots for tea. Equally as good as Fortnum & Mason

Went for an afternoon tea here. The staff was amazing, so friendly and took really good care of us. The tea itself was also really good, a lot of great options. As for the whole tea time, the sandwiches and the desserts are not great. The dessert was inedible for all of us as it had fridge taste. Scones were amazing 10/10. Really hope they can improve on the sandwiches and the desserts as everything else is perfect. Apparently they change the menu every season so we got the summer one. They had a really nice collaboration with a perfume company that gave free perfume samples out at the end of the tea time.

We did the afternoon tea at Wellington Lounge and it was the worst experience. I've been to several afternoon/high teas in London and expected more from the Intercontinental brand. The lounge location is in the lobby, a busy foot traffic area with no privacy. The entire area is loud and disruptive with hotel guests walking around and talking on the phone. The fire alarm testing happened halfway through our meal. There is no dress code or guidance so the entire experience feels very casual and lackluster. Staff are not attentive and do not care about service. The entire experience was extremely slow and we did not feel taken care of. The food is mediocre and presentation is basic. There is no thought put into the tea experience - everything was served on normal plates with no explanation and staff let our teas overbrew and get bitter without telling us how long we should steep it. I would expect this to be customary at an afternoon tea experience. To top it off, the afternoon tea was expensive and not worth the price. A good suggestion for improvement is changing the ambiance and staff knowledge and effort around tea service. I honestly don't understand why this lounge received good reviews - perhaps the lunch or meal service is better but we were very disappointed with the experience and will not be returning.

Went here for the festive afternoon tea and had such a great time. I loved the decor, it was very elegant and the Wellington has an overall pleasant atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating and explained everything well. You can choose between more than 20 different teas and have as many refills as you want. Furthermore, you can also have as many of the savoury snacks as you want. I personally enjoyed the food a lot and would definitely recommend the tea to any tea lover. It is good value for its money, we actually didn’t manage to finish the scones and cakes in the end because we were so full so we were offered boxes to take them home with us. We will definitely come again!

Absolute amazing afternoon tea experience. From the moment you arrive, a very friendly hostess explains how they will be serving you, provides you a menu of the 20+ teas you can choose from with unlimited refills and changes, plus list of food included. You may request additional snacks for free, but frankly, after so much food, it is hard to find space for more. Each plate was incredibly decorated, nothing comes without o touch of color and style, so you will have a guilty feeling of destroying a masterpiece with every bite. If the options are overwhelming, the hostess provided recommendation as to which tea pairs better with each food. Allow a couple of hours or more to enjoy the experience. Certainly it will be one of our best highlights of our London trip.

We were there for dinner, and the food was tasteless and old. To make matters worse, I also felt sick after it the following day. When I called the Wellington Lounge letting them know about it, a customer relationship officer called Olga responded in a condescending way assuring me that "no one else has reported similar symptoms" as if I was making it up. What an unprofessional response for a 5 star hotel that claims to have a superior level of customer service. Very disappointed.

We had high tea here because we were staying at the hotel, and we were so glad we did. The service was impeccable. We lounged for hours, enjoying our sandwiches and cakes over a long timespan. The chef invented an alternative menu for many items on the fly due to an allergy. The theme when we were there was around the Commonwealth, so they had foods inspired by many of the Commonwealth nations. There were too many different items to describe, but they were divine. I can't recommend this place enough. We loved it. Between the scones and sandwiches and desserts, there was far more than enough food. Really, I can't say enough good things. Have high tea here.

Bit late but Really enjoyed our iftar meal here in May. It was so nice and pleasant and the staff were understanding and could not have done any more. The manger who was new really knew about good experience and service and how to deal with customers and was a pleasure to talk to and made the long iftar so much better. It is 4 course, soup, then bread hummous etc, the Mian Indian style thali, and then platter of dessert this was amazing A few quibbles were they was no mention or discussion of how this is served , if there were any allergies e.g. fish or red meat etc as not everyone eats this, only a veg option or non veg and was bought out. It is served in a Indian thali style. Also they have a prayer room which is not clear on where this is. Starters soup both were vegetarian. But as the manager was amazing and manage to sort any allergy or specific issues out. Was a really nice filling meal. May visit this again soon.

Confusion over our booking was quickly sorted (although still unclear why nobody from the team called to double check the booking if the online system hadn't provided enough detail) and we were warmly welcomed for our High Coffee. A clever twist on afternoon tea, the food was varied and tasty, punctuated by a variety of coffee liquid treats. Highlights, and there were many, included the Espresso Martini opener, the theatrical blood orange sorbet and a sublime creme brulee. However, whilst the service started off as attentive and informative, by the end of our visit it was distinctly lacking. Staff were noticeable by their absence. We struggled to find anyone to ask for the bill and after a lengthy wait had to ask a second time. At this point we were running late for our train so asked to pay straight away. Therefore it was doubly frustrating that having been handed the card machine, the staff member started talking to a colleague and was so disteacted that we felt obliged to complete the payment ourselves, and removed he card and tore off the receipt before getting up to leave, now very late indeed. It was only as we walked away that the staff member remembered us, but with no hint of an apology, just concern for his part of the bill. No matter how good the food, the last hour spoiled our experience.

We arrived at 5pm for our High Coffee experience and didn't leave until 7pm - yes it took two hours and it was the best afternoon tea EVER. We chose to have High Coffee which meant we indulged (or should that be drowned?) in coffee and chocolate. The most amazing Espresso Martini and so many tastings of different coffees finishing with coffee and Limoncello. The savouries and cakes were incredible - we noticed another table taking home their remaining cakes in a box but I am ashamed to say that there wasn't a crumb left at our table. In fact I also polished off my partner's mini Crème Brulee! Our original idea of having a cocktail or a drink after in the bar afterwards did not happen - we could barely move. Yes we were there ages and if Im going to be critical I suppose it was a bit slow but it worked for us. Im about to book for an early June celebration but only if they have the High Coffee option.

Our friends purchased this for our 20th Anniversary gift. Struggled to book online, but got it sorted by phone. Arrived nearly an hour early, but this proved to be no problem. The dining manager seated us and we had a Gin cocktail each, being in no rush. Our complimentary glass of champagne arrived which was very nice indeed. I then upgraded the package (£29pp) for unlimited champers for 90 minutes, which was more than worthwhile. Our ladies, serving the food, were very knowledgable about the sandwiches, the contents and where in the world they were inspired by. So, to the food. Top of the stack was a small pot of Wagyu Beef & Mushroom topped with mashed potato. Very nice indeed, flavoursome. The 4 varieties of sandwich on different flavour breads were good too. We had an extra plate between us. Savouries were really good, again inspired by countries of the world. The scones were soft and moist. Teas were tremendous. The Intercontinental own label was exceptional. We even had a little anniversary cake sent out by the hotel with a candle, which was very nice (and very tasty), and capped the afternoon off So to sum up, a great experience. Service and staff were excellent, which in my opinion, always contributes to an experience. (Nothing worse than good food and lousy service). Well done to all. My wife and I went home very happy

I’ve been to nearly every five star hotel for afternoon tea. I last visited the Intercontinental a few years ago and thought I’d give it a go again. I visited on a very quiet, ambience lacking Friday afternoon for the unlimited champagne afternoon tea. The service was excellent and the girl who served me couldn’t have been more helpful. That’s where, I’m afraid, the positives end. I arrived at 1pm and didn’t receive any food until after 1.30pm. When my sandwiches arrived they were stale. So why, if they had been prepared earlier, was this the case? Fresh sandwiches did arrive 20 minutes later but by now (as I explained to staff) I was concerned as I had to rush to get to a meeting on time. I didn’t arrive on time! I partake in afternoon tea (usually Claridges) once a week and like to feel relaxed and don’t like to rush. These events did spoil my afternoon. The scones were fresh and the cakes satisfactory. There was a good selection of teas. I did mention these issues with a member of staff. I asked to see the manager, but unfortunately he/she didn’t take the time to discuss my concerns. This was both unusual and not what I would expect from a five star hotel. I did receive a small reduction off my bill but again, not what I would have expected from such a hotel. I think I will stick to Claridges in future!

Cons: - unlimited champagne required us constantly having to request a refill - could have actually been poor value if we hadn’t requested refills; - the tea element of the afternoon tea came after the food, even after we asked; - the temperature was excessively hot; - views are not over Hyde Park as described on the website.

Not only are the staff very knowledgeable, polite and friendly, they also take the time to explain the menu patiently and properly suggest paired teas. I've found from past experience that staff at a lot of other high end hotel afternoon teas, simply plonk the cake tray at the table without any interest and suggest the ubiquitous afternoon tea to go with everything! Intercontinental sets itself apart in this regard and make the occasion feel even more special. Thank you!

Had afternoon tea at the Intercontinental on a Saturday afternoon. The tea is served in the lounge which wasn't busy and had a nice relaxed feel with comfortable chairs. Our waitress gave an overview of the building history and made some tea suggestions. We had already advised one of the party was vegetarian and this was confirmed to us. The sandwich were excellent, each variety on a different bread. All were tasty and original and replenishment was available. The vegetarian sandwich selection was particularly pleasing. Scones were served warm and of a good size. Unfortunately for us the cakes were too sweet and rather tasteless. It was a birthday celebration and the pianist played Happy Birthday and a lovely cake was served. A very nice touch and this was extremely tasty. Overall value for money this is an excellent Tea however I have not given 5 stars as the pastries were a little lacking and the service though friendly was hit and miss. We never had tea and food at the same time. Other tables were left uncleared for too long and we had to ask for some more tea. That said we had a lovely time at the Wellington Lounge and was pleased we tried it.

This used to be one of my go to spots for afternoon tea in London. Great location, nice lounge and it used to be great food and service. The last 2 times I went the service got much slower than usual and then for my last visit it took forever until someone even took my order; a tea top up took almost 10 minutes. The food left much to be desired: sandwiches were mediocre compared to other times, the desserts were just sweet with no distinguishing characteristics, worst I've had for a tea yet. The waiter knew absolutely nothing about the teas when asked for recommendations by the table next to me, he just pushed the signature black tea. The champagne I ordered came flat. After finishing it took 20 minutes for someone to look towards me and notice me waving for the bill.

We went for a baby shower and were given the warmest welcome. The service was outstanding. So professional and attentive. Andreas in particular was very accommodating and took us through every single element of the menu and recommended a perfect tea to accompany. Definitely would go again and highly recommend.

Definitely an experiance I won't forget. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the receptionist who showed us round the corner to the Lounge where our afternoon tea would be served. Thw hotel was very nice and We had an extremely professional waitor. We was told exactly what we was getting and he even recommend a special tea to drink with was lovely. We didn't have to wait long for our tea to be served. He explained what everything was and also kept our team topped up. (Sorry didn't get a name) I have worked in hotels and served afternoon tea myself for years but I have never known an afternoon tea to include some much! 4 cakes each!! A plate of sandwiches each and scones. Everything was perfect. Definitely a really well run lounge and would definitely come back.

We've had quite a few afternoon tea experiences in London - this was quite unique - and truly memorable. I booked it in advance as a Christmas present for my wife - we like new experiences. This one stuck out because of it's chocolate connection with the great Paul A Young. The Wellington Lounge is beautiful - relaxing, spacious, comfortable. We were greeted warmly and shown straight tonour table. Service throughout was first class. Attention to detail was almost perfect (apart from the minor detail of new plates being brought out to us that still has cress / crumbs on them and were not clean). Our server offered to take photos of us and our afternoon tea, and very carefully arranged the table to be at its most presentable. The speciality menu was delightful starting with tiny warm filled pastries, through very tasty sandwiches, to scones with lovely conserves / curds, and then onto the highlight - the splendidly presented chocolate deserts. They were so memorable!!! And then alongside came mince pies and iced Christmas fruit cake. We had a change of tea recommended to accompany the chocolate deserts and that was a great idea. A very special afternoon.

This was our second visit and we weren't disappointed. We chose the Christmas themed tea which started with sandwiches and savouries and a Darjeeling recommended by our waiter which complimented well and is something that we wouldn't have previously tried. We then moved into scones accompanied by a vanilla flavoured tea which was delicious. The orange curd with the cinnamon scones was a particular delight. The chocolate desserts to finish were divine and beautifully crafted. Our waiter was knowledgeable, gracious and had the perfect balance between being attentive without being overbearing. A truly wonderful afternoon.

This hotel is pretty ugly from the outside - brutalist architecture - but is gorgeous inside, and the Wellington Lounge where they serve afternoon tea is beautiful. The service is helpful and attentive, the crockery is lovely, and the food is tasty, interesting, filling.

I went with a friend for the Royal Afternoon Tea which I booked through Groupon. This was for my birthday and it was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. The service couldn't have been better, staff very attentive and the cakes imaginative and tasty. There was a kiwi mousse with champagne jelly - delicious. The cakes were in the shape of the Queen's crown, her handbag and hat. The scones were nice too but smaller than elsewhere and I wish we had been offered more. Overall, a pleasant experience and I would recommend it.

Not enough staff for a Saturday. we were there 2 hours and didn't even get the scones and jam/cream we had to get them in a doggy bag to go. we had 3 half of sandwiches that weren't great, 1 pot of tea that went cold as it came out way before the sandwiches (the fresh pot never arrived even though we asked for it) and the chocolate plate was so bitter we could barely eat it. The best thing was the free flowing champagne but I feel that was given to us to keep us quiet! at £195 for 2 its not cheap and customer service was poor. will not be going back

This was an afternoon tea reservation and we were very impressed by the whole experience. The Wellington Lounge is inside the InterContinental Hotel just by Hyde Park Corner tube station so is easy to access. There were two menus to choose from and we were brought a glass of prosecco to begin. The afternoon tea was effectively three courses with sandwiches, scones and a chocolate dessert, all of an excellent quality. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great afternoon tea and it was nice to eat somewhere slightly less busy than the other popular afternoon tea venues such as Fortnum & Mason.

We had Afternoon Tea in the Wellington Lounge for my sister's birthday. Although, the afternoon tea was only supposed to have a seating of up to 5pm, they were flexible with us and allowed us a 6pm booking as they wanted to make my sister's birthday special. I was corresponding with Clara Kieffer, who set this up. I am grateful they were able to accommodate this. What was simply amazing was the way in which our server, Reinaldo Sequera, explained the history behind afternoon tea, the fact that the hotel is build over what used to be Queen Elizabeth's former residence and explained the food as well as tea selection. I learnt quite a bit and makes to appreciate the experience even more. The tea he recommended were superb!Despite our varied dietary requirements (vegan for some of us, lacto-intolerant for one, etc), they put together an amazing selection of sandwiches and desserts. I have to give my hats off to them for being able to cater for us. The afternoon tea theme varies every season and we got the chocolate theme which was pretty cool! £32 is very reasonable for what we got.I have been to many afternoon teas (Ritz, Dochester, Savoy, Claridges, etc), which I can compare with, and all had good service but the service here is far superior, and I would like to thank Reinaldo and his team for this amazing experience and service.

For me, afternoon tea isn’t just about eating and drinking. It’s an entire sensory experience, in which I get to relax and socialize with my friends while enjoying seasonal delicacies and the finest choices in British tea. Thanks to the magnificent collaboration of Executive Chef Ashley Wells and Edward Bodenham of Floris London, the Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea at the InterContinental Park Lane was exactly what afternoon tea should be. Since I love to smell everything before I taste it, I have to admit the combination of distinct flavors infused with natural, herbal scents excited me. I was surprised at how much care was put into how the courses of the Scents of Summer Afternoon Tea were served. We were served a selection of small sandwiches, starting with smoked salmon and bergamot cream cheese in a lemon bread, which was hearty but subtle in flavor, and ending with a strong honey-roasted pumpkin on spinach bread, crumbled with rich and creamy feta cheese. This one was my favorite. After the savory dishes, the sweet scents of summer wafted through, in the form of deliciously decadent desserts. I loved the light flavor of the Jasmine tea cake, and thought it paired nicely with a warm cup of tea. One of my friends was partial to the grapefruit tart and violet cream, as she said the citrus flavor balanced the floral exceptionally. The tea service was delightful, and this is more than just tea and cookies. This truly is a journey, both culinary and fragrant. Between each course, we were served a form of palate cleanser, which made enjoying the next flavor even more intense. The atmosphere of the Wellington Lounge makes the whole experience regal and relaxing. The British summertime speaks volumes to your senses I can only imagine how amazing their Chocolate Afternoon Tea must be!

One of my trip highlights, this experience was amazing. Our server, Thomas, took his time explaining the different teas and offered to pair our teas with the courses we were served. It was a bit pricey but so worth it. We probably tried 6 or 7 different teas, plus were served finger sandwiches, fresh scones and dessert. It was just incredible.

We have had the opportunity to try several Afternoon Teas and this one easily stands out. Service is so friendly and the gentleman who served us was so polite and in no rush explaining and giving details of each particular food. Took the opportunity to try different teas, started with Japanese Green and ended with Jasmine. Cakes were of excellent quality. The whole experience is worth the price. The cherry on the cale was when we were presented with a surprise little cake in the end as a gift for our anniversary.

Afternoon tea's have become a ritual with myself and family, we are keen to try as many as possible and we managed to tick another one of the list.So 5 of us came for the halal afternoon tea, when we arrived our table was already set aside and we were directed in a very professional and courteous manner. The gentleman that served us was very friendly and went through a couple of facts about the hotel and our surroundings, I thought this was a very nice touch and complimented the occasion well. The sandwiches and cakes were all very nice and fresh.I particularly enjoyed the coronation chicken and the prawn sandwiches. Our dietary requirements were met perfectly even down to the desserts which doesn't always happen so we were particularly grateful for that.

If it's your first time in London, you can't miss the Wellington Lounge. It's difficult to get a table and quite pricey but the atmosphere is proper English and their afternoon tea amazing. It's a bit "Old English" but then again, it is catered for tourists.
