Found this place via tripadvisor after a long delay on the M6 and didn’t want to use service station to eat. Used the website to book just 2 large portions of chips 40 minutes in advance. When I got there, on time, was told there would be a short delay. 15 minutes late my name was called, only for them to try to give me completely the wrong order. They then found my ticket - “we’ll get that done now”. 5 minutes later, done. So basically an hour to provide 2 portions of chips. The food itself was good, and the portions were big (they say large chips are for 2-3 people - that’s probably about right). But a lack of organisation, no apology, and no offer to do anything after such a delay means I would recommend I’m afraid.

First time visit. Fancied some chips on the way back from Stafford on a Sunday. Used TripAdvisor to look for a chippy that was open. Lovely friendly staff and food cooked to order. The sausage in batter was awesome and great chips. The wife had fish and said it was beautiful with lovely batter. To top it off the prices are very good. Would highly recommend a visit.

Fin makes me violent about a fish and chips order sometimes as well as Reuben. But good food very good very nice. I went with fin once and they had some great googly moogly gee willickers lip gobblin delectable chicken strips. So yea 10 out of 10 nice. John can you tell Reuben to get a social life please he keeps on coding smh :(

I have been using JoJo's for some years as a regular Friday lunchtime customer. There are two fish shops nearer to me so that must say something - especially as the traffic is so awful. Comments are made about the wait they experience after ordering for a particular time. The fish shop is very popular and therefore busy. I have had delays beyond my ordering time but nothing excessive and the customer knows that the fish etc is freshly cooked - to me that is a bonus point' I always have a large cod, chips, peas and tarte sauce. Always very tasty and satisfying. Without exception, the staff are polite and welcoming.

The quality of food is always good. Staff efficient and friendly. And the homemade tartare sauce is superb! What more do you need?

I have ordered food from this Fish & Chip Shop many, many times and have been mostly disappointed with the slow service and quality of food. The staff there are generally polite and friendly but it is annoying when they advise you a time of 15 mins before your order will be ready when you are waiting much much longer before you receive your order. I have found the cod fish to be very good, you can see how fresh it is, but my older child has found hair in our food on a couple of occasions (unfortunately my eyesight is not that great!). It has put us off ordering there for a while. The lovely young ladies need to ensure they keep their hands out of their hair and their hair tied back properly away from their face, to maintain good hygiene practice. My problem has been mainly with the chips, which I've found at times not great, often bruised dark areas on the chips, with the odd green one or two, and I end up leaving most of it!! I do feel this Fish & Chip shop is overrated and I wish when one is giving a review about the service they would be honest enough to say it is slow or that you have to wait a long time! I waited a long time before I wrote this review as I wanted to be certain about my findings and experience and I hope that from this improvements will be made.

Ordered GF cod and chips to collect. Was bagged and ready when I arrived so couldn’t see how over-cooked (or reheated) the fish was. Batter was rock hard, brown and inedible. Chips were fine. Maybe just a one off bad day but very disappointing. Plenty of places do very good GF batter these days so it’s not down to that. This was just reheated and over cooked. There is another establishment not far away that does very good GF and nearly £3 cheaper so I’ll be sticking with them from now on.

This is the best Fish bar in the Stafford area. The fish is always fresh, the staff are efficient and friendly and it is clearly well run. An excellent business which deserves support.

The food here has always been better than elsewhere but the change on waiting times is just too much. They do offer an order and come back service which is great when you want to wait at BOD but the foot is only started when you return and not for the time requested. Tonight was a 40 minute wait. I do not wait this long in a restaurant so why here? I was too slow in realising that the “good luck” from a customer collecting food was a reference to the awful wait. They have more staff than I’ve seen anywhere else but still the service is slow. After many experiences I leave this review as I feel it is unfair to review on one bad experience. I will no longer be going back.

Decided to visit on August Bank Holiday Monday as the nearby Chinese takeaway was closed. What a mistake. The service was friendly and efficient but the food inedible. I ordered three cod and chips and sausage and chips. I was told that it would be a ten minute wait as my food would be freshly cooked, apparently by J Robert Oppenheimer. I have never paid such a premium for incinerated offerings. The fish barely survived beneath the titanium batter and the chips were as stiff and tasteless as mdf. All this joy for only £29! I would strongly advise to give this place a swerve.

Decided to give this place another go after 2 years of not going, even though it’s local but have had some really awful food in the past. £4.20 for a small tray of chips and a small curry sauce. Still hungry afterwards. Completely tasteless chips! And curry sauce not much better! This place is massively overrated and very, very expensive! But the only chippy in the area. Absolutely my very last time here and definitely DO NOT recommend!!

We were at stafford boat club and decided to try this place. There were two couples and a single person to order for so we all ordered separately. I ordered first. Fish and chips and pie and chips. Gave the name john for my order. Next was the single chap. Ordered pie and chips. Gave the name John for his order for a laugh. Last couple order and gave name as John for a laugh. The staff were lovely and said ok it's John 1, John 2 and John 3. We all had our orders and took them back to the boat club to eat. We'll all the meals were yummy and we will definitely be back on sat to have some more. Great chippy with lovely staff. Top marks from us.

Why do customers still wait outside? At least they would be served in the right order if they were in a queue in the shop.What happens when it cold or raining.Fish and chips was ok but waited far too long.Some were being served before me .In and out in a flash.Friday evening would be busy but why wait outside.No Covid now .

Well worth a visit - really friendly staff who are always willing to help and seem to know everyone who goes in there , I always phone my order through first to save a little time and it is always ready on time - best fish and chips in Stafford.

As always superb food if a little generous on the portion size but who can resist value and so good you can't resist finishing them. Got to commend them on their safety systems during covid. I have always found all the staff to be delightful and accommodating of my slight, temporary disability. Simply superb, really can't understand the tiny number of 1 star negative reviews when almost 100% of all reviews are 5 star. Suspicious! However I would agree that card payment would be easier but that is just me being lazy.Thank you to all the staff.

We often travel from Leicester to see my Mother in law and we always look forward to our fish and chips from Weeping Cross. They are freshly cooked, hot and delicious. The fish is so fresh, meaty and melts in your mouth together with beautiful chips. Well worth the trip. Thank you.

I went into this Fish an Chip shop today for the first time ever. Great service, very friendly, generous portions and wonderful meals. Lovely chips. I would definitely go there again. Recommended.

I wrote a review well over a year ago & a lot happen in the world in that time with Covid etc. I am delighted to say that whilst safety measures have been introduced, such as screens, single entry, nothing else has in terms of the quality, friendliness & exceptional service. As before I travel to many pleases, eat in many different restaurants, dinners, hotels, take aways etc, but I have never found better fish & chips anywhere. That and the wide variety of other food they serve. I can not recommend a visit here highly enough. Love the food, love the friendly people working there.

BEST fish and chips i've ever had. passed through stafford on a road trip and stopped here to grab a bite. The chips were perfect and the fish was scrumptious! the workers were very friendly and i felt very welcomed on my brief visit. The food was ready in no time at all and we all enjoyed our food!

I have just visited Weeping Cross fish bar at 520pm. Took 10 minutes to place a small order and 30 more minutes waiting for it.There were 15 other customers waiting outside too for the whole time.Service not good enough. We shouldn't have to be waiting outside and they shouldn't be prioritising phone orders over people who have waited a long time.Stop this nonsense now and stop taking phone orders.Just open the shop back up as it should be with queueing inside.What's the problem?

Ordered over the phone, travelled 20 mins comes back to enjoy our fish supper. It’s was way over done dark crispy batter on the fish and the sausage was frazzled. Chips were totally dry.We’ve been here before and been happy, that’s why we drove out the area to return. Very disappointed total let down.

The large cod is huge, meaty, perfectly cooked with excellent batter. If you like your chips on the soft side, then fine but I would go for crisp.

I visited this chip shop last night I paid £1.90 for a portion of chips. These people should be ashamed the portion size would not be enough for a small child. Potatoes are very cheap at the minute so why such a small portion do the owners try to get 50 servings out of a bag of potatoes. I also had a pie which had been warmed up from a previous day. Never again.

John & Imogen ,the tall one , are the best cooks of Fish&Chips we have ever tasted .No wonder people travel from afar. We are lucky as they are our local ! Scott & David

I collected a meal early on Saturday evening and was delighted with the high level of service I received. The choice of food is enormous, the staff are attentive, efficient and polite, and the quality of food is unbeatable. Delicious chicken kebab. Stuffed to the gunnels with lovely salad and delightful chicken. Cod was large and succulent with crispy batter. Thank you once again for a perfect Friday night treat.

My wife loves fish and chips but being celiac she struggles for good quality gluten free fish and chips.. not anymore. Weeping Cross Fish Bar is brilliant, their gluten free fish and chips is amazing, the batter is very light and crispy, its so good I choose that one over the regular batter. We are locals and use this fish shop often; the food never disappoints and the staff are super friendly. They have organised their 'covid secureness' really well and offer a telephone in advance service.Only reason I haven't given 5 stars is that they still don't accept cards in this day and age - pain to have to have cash!

We had not been here for a while and had forgot how good it was. Fresh fish is delivered daily and you can taste how fresh the food is...tip - the chips are a very big portion,one portion is enough for 2 or even 3 people.

Visited this place a few times. Not bad food, but apart from a few, staff can be very rude. Totally ignored us after waiting outside. We then asked if we could come in. (The shop was empty) we were told "no wait outside! Given a very dirty look and the owner turned his back on us. Sorry we were trying to give you our business. We will not be visiting again!

This is my local chippy. Great staff, especially John the owner. Great food, fish fresh and crispy. Lots of choice and reasonable price. They would get five stars if they only went contact less payments. I work for the nhs and handling cash which has passed so many hands is really not good in time of Covid. John you know who I am, do us all a favour and go contactless please, especially if you want to help NHS workers like me, to keep doing our best for patients who need us right now. Great food, great staff, a real asset to the area! In recent lock down did delivery service, First Class .....John and his team contribute to the local community in other ways as well , floral hanging baskets add to the ambiance of all the shops in the row. Quality second to none .....10/10.....Can pre order as well....

We only had chips and curry sauce - so cannot comment on the fish. The chip shop is located in a very pleasant residential area (wouldn't mind living there!). The chips wer just to my liking - freshly cooked, pale, quite dry with some large soft chips and smaller crispy ones (my wife prefers soggy chips - so we have to mix up the chip shops we go to!). Curry sauce was sweet and tasty. Will be returning to try more things from the menu.

This must be the best fish bar I have ever been toI travel from Durham to visit my elderly dad as often as I can, first thing I do is go and visit this place it is one of the highlights of the 220 mile journey.The batter on the fish is crunchty and they have a wide range of food options always freshly made.Visit...you will not be disappointed

This chippy does gluten free options on Sunday's and Monday's. The gluten free battered cod is superb, I am not celiac but my wife is, in my view it is better than the normal batter.If you are celiac and enjoy fish and chips give this chippy visit, you won't regret it, try it even if your not.

As the majority of neighbours in my street where in self isolation, we started a Whattsapp group and decided to have a Street Fish and chip night. Not only did John from our local chippy in Bodmin Ave, Stafford supply us with hot tasty good quality fish and chips, He was also very helpful with a great positive friendly attitude and extremely organised. It was also nice to see the management highly praise his hard working staff too, Not forgetting the the 2 lovely volunteers who delivered our order on time.

Had their delivery service last week and clubbed together with our neighbours and ate outside with social distancing in place delivered piping hot and delicious well done to john and his team for providing this great service

Yet again John and his team did a really great job for us all in the village, last year they delivered to us 100 Fish and Chips for our Barn Dance, this time we needed 65 portions for our village, and subject to the Covid 19 rules Social Distancing was really important, but thanks to John it worked out really well, so we have a very happy village !

During this difficult time it is nice to treat the kids and to keep the weekends as normal as possible so if fish and chips is your triple I would highly recommend Weeping Cross Fish and Chips.Food quality is the best you will find with John and the team providing friendly efficient service.I note they also provide a delivery service which is very helpful for members of our community who are unable to get out. The only downside is the inevitable queues in the early evening but this speaks volumes on the popularity of this establishment and for us it is certainly worth the wait.10 out of 10.Thank you.

First time we have used their Home Delivery. Very professional young lady took our order over the phone and our order was delivered on time by a very courteous young man on his cycle. All well wrapped in usual paper and a thick coat of kitchen foil. Still hot and tasted great. Well done John, congrats to you all.

I travel the world with my job and therefore get to eat at a lot of places, have take-aways and go to fish and chip shops, but for me this one is the best. I love the quality and the atmosphere here. John & his team are always friendly and welcoming and the food is excellent.

I have Coeliac Disease and have struggled to find good Gluten Free Fish and Chips locally. So when they are on the menu in a restaurant I always choose them and have tried many. When John's Fish and Chip Shop announced they would be serving GF Fish and Chips every Sunday and Monday from January 2020 I became so very exited.

Have visited regularly for many years since opening. Never experienced a serious problem with food or staff. Have also been at events where food has been delivered still hot and of good quality. Shocked to see seemingly mendacious reviews on here which are at odds with our experience

Quality seems to have dropped off. This chippy used to be excellent but over recent months the quality, particularly of the chips, seems to have decreased. On recent visits chips have represented congealed mush. Needs to step up again to be what it once was.

This is THE best chippie for miles around in stafford - excellent food great team swift service. There is usually a queue out of the shop door it is so good.

We are so grateful to John and the team for providing the food for our school charity event. We ordered over 60 portions of fish and chips and it arrived all hot and wonderfully packaged in individual boxes with all the condiments. We received so many comments on how tasty the food was and when are we organizing the next night! The team were incredible in being patient with us as it was our first event. John and each of the members of staff were friendly and extremely reliable. We will definitely be asking the team to cater for us again.

Normally I get great food and service here, and the queue is rightly out the door. But today I ordered a mini fish and chips and was shocked to discover there was no fish! I am writing this just after buying it and have not contacted them. We were served by a trainee so please please people running it make sure she doesn't get the job. I am mad.
