Visted here while away with family. We were so impressed with the food we went back 2 more nights. We had different food every night. It was really delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were really impressed with everything here. It was local to where we stayed. Even my daughter aged 10 whos a fussy eater really enjoyed the food too. We are definitely going back when we visit again next year.

The Watersmeet Pub is under new Management - give it a try. We went on chance last Monday evening and had a lovely meal in the Pub Restaurant. The service was friendly, the staff were efficient and most importantly the food was very good and plentiful. Try the Curry or the Chilli - it would benefit from being a little more fiery but was tasty and well cooked.

We stayed for a long weekend of fishing tv not working in the room Gail and Tom went out if their way to ensure we had a tv to watch. John and Rob just taken over the pub last month and was more than welcoming. Both seemed to slip in seamlessly and was more than able to meet our needs during breakfast and evening meals. We both had a very enjoyable stay thank you all

We have just returned from the most disgusting meal we have ever had. It was my husband’s 66th birthday so as he is an avid fisherman thought we would have a look at the lakes and decided to have a meal. MY GOD my husband’s lasagne was inedible the base crust was so hard he couldn’t cut it the bits he tried to eat were so chewy it was like chewing gum and the chips were average frozen and not nice. Cannot believe they are allowed to serve food like this - won’t be back! Before anybody thinks he is a fussy eater far from it as he has worked all around the country staying in lots of B&B’s and hotels and this is the worst meal he has ever had.

What an experience. So many things to say. The kitchen closes at 8 so make sure you’ve eaten before staying. Good decidedly average. The rooms - we had 6 rooms booked. Only 1 room had nothing to complain about. Room 3 the shower wouldn’t drain and as a triple room only Leaving 1 towel was optimistic. Room 4 had a rotting floor, the laminate was lifting and the smell was shocking. The door to room 4 is also an interior door painted in gloss and there a gap around it if around 3/4 inch so the wind blew threw it all night. Room 5 - no hot water at all, tv didn’t work. Room 6 tv didn’t work. Twin room over in the main building had to listen to the water cisterns all night and had an ant problem. It was too late at night to do anything about this so we accepted it was cheap for a reason. The landlady had no customer service experience and frankly was quite rude to her customers. They messed up one of our bookings and didn’t care at all. I had a situation with the landlady who just said don’t bother coming back. Clearly her standards are a lot lower than mine. After this debacle we all went to bed, after spending a fair bit on some average food and wine. In the morning one of my party had her car Keyed all down two side doors. I would never stay here, never recommend, to be honest it should reported as a health hazard. Really dreadful. It’s also advertised on AirB&B but they don’t name the place so to book blind. Wish I had read these before booking.

Actually the food was OK even though we had to fight for it but a crowd of 9 of us stayed overnight. Number 10 went home because they didn't keep his room. I stayed in a twin with a friend. The floor had ants running around. The toilet was cracked and leaking water out. The water tank for mine and the surrounding rooms was house in the ceiling above so therefore evertine someone used their bathroom we had to list to the tank filling and it wasn't quiet. We also had to listen to quite a lit if noise from people. I gey it's a pub but still a little consideration. Personally I would never stay again. Very disappointed with so.e of the attitudes and the customer service.

The place stunk looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for years. The seat cushions were stained and dirt and Bird muck all over the entrance. Should have left but thought I’d given them the benefit. Food! Oh my I had prawns fried in filo or something of the like, which were still frozen, they were returned re cooked but the one I took out of my mouth half chewed was still on the plate. The prawns were a soggy mess didn’t even look like a prawn. Couldn’t even eat. The chips tasted like they been cooked in old oil. The salad was limp. My partner had scampi which was soggy and cold. The peas were grey looked liked they been boiled to death. The French bread was burnt on the outside and fridge cold in the middle. We paid and left. How can an establishment be allowed to trade like this? On a plus point the toilets were clean should have stayed in there !!

Visited by chance - basic pub but clean and noticed staff wiping down tables straight away after customers leave. Food was a great bonus as not the awful “ chain type “ offering - all home cooked, good size portions and will go again, old man had steak and kidney pie which he never finds anywhere with proper pastry ! Good for me as couple of veggie choices, I had veggie lasagne all was delicious. Many thanks

Since moving to the area a couple of months ago I have called in on several occasions at the Watersmeet. It is without a doubt the most welcoming pub I have been to. The owner and all the staff are friendly and incredibly helpful. I have eaten there midweek and had Sunday lunch. The food has to be experienced to be believed. The food is all home cooked and fresh, if your mother is a good cook chances are you will think she works in the kitchen here it has an authentic home cook feel to it. The portion sizes are huge the average plate is about 10 inches x 10 inches and full edge to edge. The Steak and Kidney pie is truly legendary. If you want to enjoy a great meal in comfortable surroundings and leave feeling satisfying full this is the place for you. If you fancy a drink but are worried about feeling out of place in a strange pub then don't. It is a super friendly atmosphere with genuine people who enjoy a bit of friendly banter.

Gracias.

Precioso fresco cocinado sabroso domingo almuerzo. Volveremos pronto! !

Where to start. 50 minute wait (in a very quite pub) for the driest gammon I've ever had (and when I say "gammon", I actually mean half gammon / half ham (very poor cut of meat)). "Homemade" chips were also very dry and not particularly tasty. The only good thing about my meal was the eggs! The girlfriend had ordered the lasagna (her favourite pub meal) and barely touched it (she said it was very poor and tasteless). Throw in to the mix dirty drinks glasses. When I settled up the bill I was asked how our meal was, to which to save face as I didn't want to make a fuss I only mentioned about my GFs meal meal being poor. The barman's reply to that was.......nothing, absolute zilch (clearly couldn't care less). All in all a terrible experience. This was our first (and last) visit to this dire place. And we were recommend this place by a friend, who will get a stern talking to!

We stuck to steak or fish, with the house (no other choice?) wine, and proper beer. (The pub is no longer connected with the hotel next door). Huge breakfast in the morning @ £5.00 - too much for the average person, but great for the anglers staying in the hotel. Not sure why there was a dog barking in the kitchen, but otherwise good value. The fishing tales in the bar are probably true.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We have been eating at this pub regularly for the past 3 years and have always been really impressed with the service, choice on menu, specials etc. Then about 12 months ago it all started to deteriorate. The specials board disappeared, then the friendly and helpful waiting on staff, then the choice of menu was reduced to very few options and portion sizes shrunk. However, the chef was always helpful providing gluten free food, which took a little longer to produce but we didn't mind. Then on 28th May 2016 we arrived at 5pm (our usual time) for a table for 4 to be told that food would not be served until 6.30pm. There was no explanation given but we can only assume it was due to the chef flipping burgers on the bbq available outside. We duly waited until 6.15pm and returned to the restaurant to see people already eating. When we asked for a table we were told, no evening food would be served until 6.30pm, yet people were sat infront of us eating exactly what we had just ordered! We asked for the gluten free chips, done in the oven just as we usually have, to be told in no uncertain terms that the chef would not do that. When the meal arrived the vegetarian option, which should have been broccoli bake in what I assume should have been a cheese sauce looked like broccoli in a bowl of milk, the chips which had been deep fried were not cooked through, we were given an additional ham egg and chips, which we did not order at all and the jacket potato which was the substitute gluten free option was what can only be described as miniscule. We complained to the waitress, who took our comments back to the kitchen with the result that the bill was reduced by £4.45 which was half the cost of the vegetarian dish. At an average price of £9- £12 per main meal, which although is not expensive, was not value for money either, this has been our final visit to the Watersmeet restaurant and in future we will be eating elsewhere. What makes it worse, is that we have always recommended this restaurant to others and the friends we took with us had never eaten there before and only came because we had told them so much about it in the past.

Stayed in Alvington while seeing Tom Jones in Chepstow. Lovely little pub. Classic proper pub. Vintage decor, nice and cosy. Pool table and darts board. Staff were really nice. The little restaurant is on the other side of the building so it doesn’t feel like a gastro pub. Had food there as well a couple of times. Jackson the waiter was nice and polite. Only a young lad. Hope it doesn’t change. Need more classic pubs like this. Really nice place.

My husband and I both had severe diarrhoea soon after our meal on Saturday 21 September. He took over 5 days to recover as he actually finished his lamb rump whereas I left half my steak and ale pie and was ill for 2 days. Emailed through The Quality Inn response page to make them aware so they could clean up their kitchen and food preparation. They did not even have the curtesy to reply. What are they afraid of - responding is an admission of guilt? If they ignore us, we might go away? … Shame on you. Beware when visiting the White Hart Inn, Broadoak, Newnham.
