The food was really nice and I liked the way ‘after ordering at the bar’ that they then came and gave you your cutlery and reconfirmed your order, a simple thing but helps to avoid any order errors….nice touch. Fish chips & peas was filling and lovely whilst my lad thoroughly enjoyed his steak baguette. Reasonably priced and a nice little waterside pub.

Found the restaurant on our way to Windermere. It was very busy, which is always a good sign. It's a good we were first to order because we had to wait over an hour. That was the only negative. The food was good and the service was excellent. Definitely well worth a try, as long as you don't mind the wait.

This is a very comfortable, beautiful and cozy inn. I would highly recommend this slice of heaven to any and all. I myself had a steak. I have had many steaks from many excellent places but none come close to the standard of this place! The people are very kind and the prices are amazing! You can also buy real ale and take it home- I personally love the dog references on each drink. It has a modern and old feel which adds to the overall vibe of the building. I also understand that the rooms you can rent are of excellent quality. Whether it’s for a family meal, a romantic dinner, meeting with your mates or even just by yourself, come here. Thank you for reading and I hope that you too have the wonderful experience I did.

I can't understand all the bad reviews. I often go camping at a nearby site and come here for my dinner. I always get the same - garlic mushrooms starter but I just eat it as a main as the portion sizes are huge! I once got that and onion rings and I couldn't finish it. The food was delicious, was served by a bloke behind the bar and then a young lad who brought me my food, both friendly. In my opinion, a proper pub serving decent food. I don't drink so didn't sample the ale which they brew in house but I'm sure it's lovely.

We called three times for dinner within a week, as The Watermill was convenient to our holiday accommodation. Each meal we had was well-cooked, good portions and reasonable value. There was one slight issue with our order on one evening, which was resolved without fuss, and did not impact the enjoyment. Some of the beer is brewed in the associated micro-brewery, and is as good as the food. Well worth a visit!

I had haddock and chips. The fish wasn’t too bad but the chips were dried up. I sent the food back and was given some more chips which were equally as bad. It was as if they had been cooked previously and then re heated. As I was hungry And could see that I was going to get nowhere, I ate the meal. At the end , I pointed out that the second lot were no better, and the retort was , “but was the fish ok?” All in all, a very poor experience. I won’t be going back, despite living locally

As pub grub goes, this must be some of the best in the area. The setting in the cosy bar area with roaring fire is lovely for a start. They even have some tables outside but this was December and the weather certainly wasn’t suitable! There is nothing complicated about the food, just good quality old-fashioned English cuisine. I had the turkey with all the trimmings and it was fantastic. Imaginative and tasty with really great produce I just about managed to finish it.The steak and ale pie was also very good indeed and we both left feeling full and satisfied. We nearly treated ourselves to a dessert but just couldn’t have fitted it in.All this supported by their homebrew beer makes it a great place for an evening out.

First impressions are a quaint country inn whose lovely setting was somewhat spoilt by COVID restrictions at this time. The staff are friendly & doing their best in these difficult times. Beyond the bar area and into the hotel it’s a bit dated and shabby the rooms are adequate and the shower room is very good. The food on the first night was good big portions no real complaints. Good choice of real ales at reasonable prices. Breakfast on the first day was ok but the 2nd morning it was awful ... huge lump of cold smoked salmon with dry scrambled egg ... inedible. this was not prepared by a chef... avoid this option is my advice.

A very relaxing and enjoyable out of season lunch with dog.We found ourselves a corner and settled down. The staff were professional and friendly. Sadly I was driving, so didn't get chance to sample the ales - although my friend assured me they were very nice - after a 4th pint just to make sure.Amongst us we had the chicken, steak and ale pie and chilli. Even as someone who enjoys their food, the size of the 3 main courses could probably have fed 5. The chicken (sourced from a local butcher) was very good - tender and full of flavour. The pie was excellent as was the chilli (although not in the same league as a bowl of Texas Red from my favourite TexMex in Albuquerque ...)All in all; very nice. Honest, genuine food. Full of flavour. Very dog friendly (just check out the drip mats and names of the ales ...)

We were recommended to try the Watermill by friends. They have their own microbrewery on site and the beer they produce is pretty good. The food is average and the service a little disinterested despite going there on a quiet night. The menu is extensive but formulaic and the food had a slightly re-heated feel about it. Decor in the place wasn't helped by an excess of cheap Halloween themed decorations which detracted rather than enhanced the atmosphere (But there again I am no fan of Halloween so might just be me. And my wife!). If looking for a simple pub meal in the area the Eagle and Child in Staveley is way better and more atmospheric.

Called in on our way back from Windermere. 2 adults, 2 children. Got seated easily however the restaurant soon filled up. Pork chop, Pie, children's chicken nuggets ( real chicken, none of this processed rubbish )and Burger meal ordered. Food was delicious, good quality meat, home cooked chips, fresh great tasting vegetables all devoured. Desserts for the kids, chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding, again devoured. Best meal of our holiday. Staff friendly and attentive. Craft beer sampled by one and took some home also. Would recommend this if your near by and will definitely call again when we are this way. The only reason it has not scored 5 is there were a couple of annoying little fruit fly type of things buzzing round.

Just across the road from where we stayed. Lovely cosy pub, obviously a favourite as it was quite busy. Easy to order food and not a long wait. The meal was beautiful (Watermill chicken) but just couldnt eat it all...much as i wanted to :)

We arrived at 6pm , it was very busy but found a table . Pate & tempura prawns to share both very nice . 2 collie wobble pie , 1 chicken & 1 fish & chips . Big portions but average . There was to many dogs oneperson bringing four in . Could not get by one table for a dog lying full length . A bit disappointed.

Excellent service in this pub restaurant. The chicken liver pate was absolutely delicious, whilst the hamburger, unfortunately, was one of the toughest, driest, cardboard-like that we have encountered. Fish and chips was very good, so was the steak and ale pie and the Cumberland sausage. Curry was not bad either and the nachos were excellent. Nice environment though the restaurant can get very uncomfortably overheated as there doesn't seem to be much in the way of ventilation. Scrumptious puds. Good selection of home-brewed ales and excellent gin menu too.

What a quaint place to visit.Good variety of food.Big choice of ales.Delicious food.Only downside for us was the amount of dogs in the dining room.My husband gets affected by dog fur/ dander & I think pubs that allow dogs should also have a no dogs area for those who have allergies. We were seated by two badly behaved dogs & then another one on the other side tried to fight with any dogs who passed his table. From helpful staff.

We had been looking for somewhere to eat close to our holiday rental that was pet friendly. Having found the Inn and read the reviews we decided to eat here. Table for four and one pet. We had scampi, venison burger, game casserole and a childs pizza. It all had the feeling that they were bought in rather that cooked fresh. Not very exciting or making you want to come back for more. The game was a bit dry and the venison burger was over cooked. Although we didn't partake in any of the local beers it did seem to be a nice pace to enjoy drinks with friends.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

My husband and I were staying at the nearby county hotel and decided to call in for a coffee on the way into the shopping area. The coffee was great and the millionaires slice was lovely. Service was very good.
