Had the soup and a sandwich served with a nice cup of tea.The salmon and cream cheese sandwich was lovely but the tomato soup was unusual,it was like eating a bowl of chopped tomatoes ! Would have been 5 stars if the soup had been better.

Visited on Sunday 28th of July. Seated at 12.10, ordered at 12.18. Still waiting at 1.10pm for Welsh Rarebit and the steak baguette special. I had to leave my wife to pay the bill because we'd run out of car parking time due to the wait. I put an extra hour on the car and came back to find my wife still waiting to pay. Food was OK but not worth the wait. If it's very busy and there's going to be an excessive wait we should have been told.

A well earned pit stop! After some initial confusion about epi pen related allergy all was well. The homemade soup and smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches were apparently lovely. I opted for the cheese and chive cream cheese ploughman’s scone - delicious! See photo! They were short on staff but it was spotless and good service. Toilets upstairs. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and return!

After years of visiting this cafe when in Hebden Bridge, we were so disappointed. We went inside as the 'specials board' was offering broccoli and stilton soup, however, it was already sold out at 1:15pm. Ordered Welsh Rarebit instead but when it arrived it was two slices of bog standard white sliced bread and only one slice had cheese on, the other slice was drowning in butter (YUK) with no cheese. £5.20 for a single slice of bread with cheese! Service was bordering on 'just ok', providing the bare minimum with no interaction or care whatsoever. It's very sad and disappointing and we won't go again.

I travel to Hebden from Malton every week to look after the grandchildren. Every time I am able to, I use the Watergate Tea Rooms. The food is very good, the staff are consistent in service, all the food is freshly made to order so be prepared for a short wait, which is as it should be, no ‘fast food’ here just delicious. If you have the opportunity to order a hot meal of their ‘Specials’ board, depending on the time of your visit as these sell out quickly. I’ve just had Homemade Fish Pie with Tenderstem broccoli absolutely delicious.

We have visited these tea rooms frequently and never been disappointed. Today however was dreadful. Ordered a coffee and pot of tea along with two scrambled eggs on toast. Drinks arrived, just "dumped" on the table. No cup for the tea waited 5 mins for cup to be brought in the end helped myself from sideboard. Scrambled eggs arrived on stone cold plates, eggs dry as a bone and extremely rubbery. Found the two young serving girls very surly, not welcoming at all. Came to pay and was asked if I knew what I had ordered. Just paid the bill and left. Very, very poor service today , food very disappointing and very different to previous visits .

I came to hebden bridge to muse around the shops and take a walk along the canal . I always like to start with a good breakfast having walked passed all the cafes that were full of dogs I was pleasantly relieved that the Watergate cafe wasn’t. The place is bright an airy and the staff are friendly. The full English breakfast was good especially the bacon and the coffee was perfect. I go out for breakfast a lot and this cafe will defo be on my return list. The rest of the menu looked good also . Keep doing what you are doing ladies it’s working 🙂

Went for brunch with a friend, the waitress stated that there would be a 10 to 15 minute wait for our order to arrive. We waited almost 45 minutes and when the food arrived I did not receive what I had ordered. If this was a genuine misunderstanding, all would have been well; however, when I spoke to a member of the kitchen staff about the problem she was rude and offered no solution to my enquiry, as if I was to blame, which ruined mine and my companions’s dining experience and we won’t be returning to The Watergate Tearooms or recommending it.

Having Travelled from ashton under lyne by bus both my husband and i were peckish. Having seen how busy tea rooms looked and spotting a table we went in. MY Hubby had chilli ( he didnt want accompanying salad) i had steak n ale pie with potatoes and veg, everything was lovely, when we went to pay we were informed they had slightly reduced the cost of hubbys meal as he didnt have salad what a lovely gesture. Went back again today and had the full English Breakfast, Sausage, 2bacon egg, mushrooms black pud, beans, fresh grilled tomato, 2 potato wedges, toast, tea/coffee £8.95 WOW .Absolutly Fantastic value for money, Service spot on ,Attentive staff, clean, plesant surroundings. Visited Hebden Bridge with my husband for the 1st time today (Sat 6th Nov) having only driven through it before. Hebden Bridge pleasantly surprised us by having lots of independent shops & a little market with many cafes & bars dotted around. We luckily managed to park in the little car park on Bridge Street & the Watergate tea rooms were conveniently situated right next to the car park & near the bridge so we decided to eat lunch here on our way back to the car. The downstairs of the cafe was full so we were directed upstairs overlooking the street of shops, the clean & spacious toilets were also upstairs. The waiting staff were pleasant though because it was busy & peak time the food took about 20 minutes to arrive but this wasn't a problem. My husband loved his full English breakfast (served till 2pm) & said everything was excellent quality & very filling with 2 slices of toast & a few potato wedges being extra to the normal, it was also piping hot. I enjoyed my specials board meal of homemade cheese & onion pie, crushed carrots & swede & peas ( I didn't use the onion gravy.) It was a proper filling hot lunch but on the reduced menu were also homemade soup, various Welsh rarebits, jacket potatoes, sandwiches, scones etc if you wanted a lighter meal. My husband's breakfast had tea included & I also had tea & we were impressed that the 2 meals & drinks were only £16 odd, very reasonable for the quality of food. We would definitely return on further visits to Hebden Bridge, thank you to all concerned.

I usually go to a pub for a pint and a sandwich when I visit Hebden Bridge but my partner prefers tea so we spotted Watergate and went in. The menu was perfect for our needs, staff were friendly and welcoming. We had a pot of tea for two and I had a bacon, brie and cranberry panino with a tiny fresh salad and a serving of coleslaw, my partner had their beautiful welsh rarebit with ham and coleslaw. Both were satisfying and delicious. We hadn't noticed the specials board on the wall despite it being mentioned in the menu so missed out on other goodies including pumpkin soup and ginger sponge pudding which also looked delicious on an adjacent table. The teapot was accompanied by a water jug and plenty of milk so the tea was almost bottomless and delicious to the end !! Definitely recommend and will most certainly visit again :-)

We visited here and were left feeling very disappointed by both the food and service. When we sat down we were immediately asked what we wanted to order before we even had chance to look at the menu. We noticed this happened with a few other tables as well which left us feeling very rushed. I initially ordered a giant Yorkshire pudding which was the reason for visiting as I had seen it on the menu outside but there was no gravy so it wasn’t an option. Peak lunch time and running out of basics is shoddy service. We then chose the ploughman’s lunch in its place which was poor value for money. The half pork pie tasted stale and the quality was cheap. The vast majority of the grapes were starting to rot and turn brown.I was left hungry as half it it was inedible. We ordered desserts and my husbands had arrived and been finished before I had to chase up where mine was. The waiter was flippant advising it was on its way. Where my husband was sat he could see into the kitchen and they have an open bin which is used to store the oven tray on before it goes in the oven. This is very unhygienic and leaves me wondering what else goes on that we can’t see behind the scenes.I would not return.

Called in for breakfast. The first thing we noticed is that the table needed a wipe down. It was about 20 mins before the deadline to order a breakfast and we were a bit concerned that we might get all the dregs. We couldn't have been more wrong. Everything about the breakfast was lovely and it was piping red hot (even the beans which are sometimes luke warm in other cafes). The food was tasty and presented nicely. It came with two toast each and we got 4 butters each. The tea pot and hot water gave enough for two teas each and was in a pot that didn't drip.

Nothing wrong with this Tea Room nor Hebden Bridge. We'd walked around this pleasant little town, peering into some shops & diving into many. Most were privately owned which is a nice change from High St multiples. On the day we visited, Thursday, there was a delightful artisan market. We bought a superb hand crafted loaf for £2.50, & enjoyed it that evening. The next day it was inedible as they don't use the chemical preservatives that supermarkets do. Nothing bad to say about the Tea Rooms. Food good, staff friendly & efficient - just what we wanted.

When we went in to the cafe I noticed that it was only half full. We sat down at a table for 2 and a lady came to clear it, saying there may be a wait for food. This was ok as we weren’t in a rush. She mistakenly left a used teacup and saucer but I thought she would come back for it. I noticed that the salt and pepper pots were filthy, with old food and fingerprints on them. Then we sat and waited for at least 10 minutes for somebody to take our order. Eventually I caught somebody’s eye and asked them to take our order. By this time another couple had sat down, and had their order taken. the Waiter brought their tea, and we were still left waiting. Then the waiter came back and said they had lost our order! We told him again what we wanted and mentioned that the couple opposite had got their tea even though they came in 15 minutes after us. They had been mistakenly given our tea. We then got our tea and the waiter was only going to leave one cup because he had seen the (dirty) cup on our table. The, lot and behold the couple opposite got their meals and had nearly eaten it before we got ours. I had soup and a sandwich and my husband had a feta salad and had ordered wedges. The top slice of bread was dry as a bone, but the soup was lovely. They forgot my husbands wedges, then brought him some, then brought some more which we sent away? Then we realised that they had missed the houmous from his salad but by this time we had lost the will to live so just ate up and went to pay the bill. They were then going to charge us for 2 wedges until we said and they knocked us £1 off for forgetting the houmous Of all the lovely places to eat we chose there, but we won’t be back because I don’t think they knew what they were doing to be honest

We stopped for lunch on a cold day, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Watergate is in the pedestrian precinct in the heart of Hebden Bridge, and offers a menu for all times of the day. It's nit just a Tea Room... There's seating on two floors, and the ground floor has wheelchair access. The food is excellent and reasonably priced, the staff are friendly, helpful, and cheerful.

dropped in to the Hebden Bridge area and came across this little cafe. Very accommodating, right on the street and very quaint. One piece of advise. The scones were huge!! (And very nice). Can quite easily share between two.

Had lunch here today and chose the Apricot Nut Roast from the 'specials' board. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and efficient. The café is clean and pleasant and very popular. Like lots of businesses in Hebden Bridge, this one was a victim of the terrible floods which affected the town in December 2015. The refurbishment is great and the café deserves the support of customers - both locals and visitors.

We chose here to eat as the menu offered plenty of choices at a good price. I had the Minute Steak and Onion Baguette with gravy which was very good, the steak was quite thick not like the minute steaks of old. I had a side order of potato wedges which I can highly recommend. Plenty of large Prawns in the prawn sandwich. A very good home made coleslaw accompanied both. The coffee was served hot enough to be still warm throughout the meal which is always a plus for me. All in all an enjoyable experience. Having read other reviews and a lady's comment about the café being dirty it did not seem so to me though the young man who cleaned our table before we were seated rather than placing a few crumbs into his hand did just brush them onto the floor. I would suggest an investment in a couple of mini roller table sweepers that I have seen used in Indian restaurants could maybe negate such complaints. We didn't try any of the deserts on offer as were full from the sandwich and Baguette.

Being in the school holiday time, we were unsure about being able to find a table, but we need not have worried, as there are tables on both floors. The floods that devestated Hebden Bridge on Boxing Day in 2016 now seem a distant memory and the re-fit here was very good.We both chose the Gammon Steak (a very large piece was served, topped with a fried free-range large egg, new potatoes and seasonal vegetables. For dessert, we chose a local speciality known as "Lumpy Bumpy", which is a soft sponge base topped with a flavoured filling with cream, all covered in decorative icing. We really enjoyed the meal here and as we have been a regular visitor here for many years, it was good to meet the lady chef and the management here once again.

The best scones in West Yorkshire! Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Service is good and the menu has a wide variety. A must if you are visiting Hebden Bridge.

Decided upon this cafe from all the others in Hebden Bridge as the menu seemed most vegetarian friendly, two out of the six of us are veggie. The mozzarella and pesto panini isn't vegetarian as the pesto contains fish, which means there aren't any other choices of panini for vegetarians. I chose a cheese and pickle baguette and after the rest of my party were served I realised the waitress had forgotten my food, no problem as she soon brought me my food when I told her. My main problem is that the place was dirty! The carpets had food on them! When you pay you go to a hatch to the kitchen, had I have seen the kitchen before ordering I'd have walked out, no one wore gloves or hair nets, the surfaces were dirty, meat was next to veg! The cook had dirty bitten fingernails! So so unsatisfactory! I definitely would not recommend this establishment and I think food hygiene need to spot check it!

We were looking for a cream tea and after going in a couple of places that had no scones we came across this place. The heavens opened and we were getting soaked so we went in. Well that certainly was a message from above. We both ordered tea and a scone with clotted cream and jam. It was to die for. The scone was massive, freshly made and warm. A lot of people were eating other things including meals and these looked really nice too. I would most certainly recommend a visit if in Hebden bridge.

Was about to order the Welsh Rarebit but they also had on the menu Hawaian Rarebit with pineapple and ham, so I asked if I could swap the ham for mushroom as I am vegetarian. It was then that I was kindly informed that the Rarebit mix was made with chicken stock so not vegetarian to start with! This information I greatly appreciated and chose a jacket potato instead. I think that it would be a good idea to state this on the menu so vegetarians know about it as a couple there had the Welsh Rarebit, one of them being vegetarian, who was not aware of this fact. The jacket potato was very nice by the way.

We had the small breakfast which included tea. Good size teapot full and used tea leaves which you never see nowadays. Breakfast was good, the sausage had never seen small lol. Very good value for money. We had one small issue which was addressed immediately which, in my view, is the main thing so I havent deducted anything. The pub has been in the family for years and years before that a different pub. Lovely friendly welcome. Hidden gem but worth hunting out.
