This has now opened as Gabriel’s Tapas Bar. The food is delicious , freshly made and very tasty. The owners are extremely friendly. Prices are reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.

The one thing I’ve learned about reviews over many years is that you should simply be your own judge. We visited Gabriel’s today and were warmly greeted and seated and had an interesting conversation with hosts - good coffee and lovely potted scones. I’m not sure why you should get upset if you get to a venue before opening time and then invited in to sit down - they could have made you wait outside. We will be visiting again.

We visited this morning and arrived for just before 10. Doors didn't open till just after and we were greeted with "we aren't quite ready to open yet but go take a seat upstairs". Not exactly the greeting you expect. Ordered the full breakfast and eggs benedict. Full breakfast was okay , ordered toast with butter to get one slice of toast. The eggs benedict was terrible. Two poached eggs on freezing cold ham. Not even an attempt to warm up the ham. Myself and my partner aren't the type to complain but £24 for poor food 😔 After reading other reviews it seems to be a common complaint. Wont be going again.

I arranged to meet a friend at Gabriels after not going for a long period of time and noticing on their website they were open until 4pm. I went inside to order asked for a menu and was told they don't do menus as only serve drinks and cakes. I asked if they had a drinks menu they said no but serve everything. I was about to order but was told to go outside and sit down and someone would come to take my order which seemed a waste of time as I was standing there! My friend arrived and all was well until about 3.15 when the manager/proprietor came out and told us they were closing, we pointed out the sign near the door which said closing time was 4pm which was also on their website. She told us they were a small business so when its quiet they shut earlier, she was very abrupt and quite rude in her attitude. If a shop or advertises its opening hours it doesn't shut early so why does a cafe? It has definatly given me a negative opinion of Gabriels.

We thought we would get lunch at Gabriel's, we picked a table outside and my wife popped in to use the ladies, She came out rather disappointed at the state of the toilets. We requested a menu and picked our choices, when the waitress took our order we mentioned my wife's nut allergy, the waitress disappeared inside with our order saying she would just check. A lady, who we presume is the proprietor came out and told us in an abrupt manner,, 'we don't serve people with nut allergies'and basically told us to leave!. We were very disappointed that a cafe that promotes itself the way it does, has no alternative for nut allergy sufferers. We were very surprised to see the trip advisor rating, especially with the attitude shown to us. I certainly will not be recommending Gabriel's, in fact I recommend people avoid it!.

Recommended to visit by a friendly lock-keeper at the canal carpark. We were not disappointed. The service was efficient and friendly. The potted scone was an experience. Never seen this before on a menu, but pleased I tried it. Delicious. Always look for a 'coffee house' or similar rather than a 'cafe' and this was worth the visit. Bought the lock-keeper a cake as a thank you and he was very surprised and happy with the gesture.

Popped in for a late lunch this Saturday, from the road side it looks like a small takeaway but it has plenty of space and a wide menu, Beth’s a sucker for Nachos and these were some of the best with generous helpings of 3 separate dips as well as a decent covering of cheese and chilli. I went for one of the specials, veggie lasagna with garlic bread. Again a decent portion and delicious.

We went this Sunday as a family of 5- all the tables outside were covered in other people’s dirty plates and cups and zero effort was made to clean anything between customers. We were then told someone would come and take our order so we sat and waited for half an hour with hungry children. No one ever came even though they came out to serve the other person sat outside and they didn’t even come to take away the dirty cups so we just had to leave and go elsewhere. Terrible cleaning standards and even worse service- we won’t be going again

One of my favourite cafes in the area. Daily specials as well as the usual panini & toasties which you can add / change to suit your tastes . Chips or French fries can be added at additional cost and is a good portion to share , Small amount of seating downstairs with more up steep staircase . It’s also open some evenings as a wine bar type venue although we’ve never been at night

Me and my mate went there for breakfast yesterday, the lass who served us was very attentive. Anyway - after ordering our breakfasts; a proper full english with all the trimmings we didn't have to wait long! About 10 minutes later she appeared with our brekkies and a smile... and it was divine! Eggs and sausage to die for, bacon was very good. Toast with butter that was creamy and smooth. We yammed our food down in about 5 minutes it was that good and was on our way. I'd highly recommend this place to anybody - we give it a 5 STAR Chop & Moyley award.

This used to be one of our favourite places to go for brunch at the weekend. Sadly it has gone a bit downhill recently. Often problems with dishes not being available because they have run out. Food and drinks often arrive with something wrong on the order. Staff not very responsive to correct things in a professional manner when they do go wrong. Might just be because some of the front staff are a bit young and immature, but they should certainly receive some decent customer service training from the owners. A real shame because it used to be absolutely excellent.

Have been twice, on the first occasion had a great time and us and our dog were welcomed by the manager and another staff member. So we went back and another person was in the kitchen. We ordered a lunch to share but it was served by the cook with only one plate. When we asked for another plate she said we hadn't said we were sharing (although we had as she was behind the counter at the time) and then started telling the staff off for not telling her??? Her attitude to both customers and staff was appalling and we will not be returning.

I come to Sowerby Bridge quiet often and whenever I do I always visit this cafe for coffee and something to eat as I like the atmosphere. Their coffee isn’t too bad and the food is okay. I usually order a tuna panini but yesterday I wanted to try something different so I ordered nachos alongside my panini. The waitress did explain that it came with chili which I assumed was chili pepper or Jalepeanos. To my disappointment, I was severed a plate of nachos with BEEF ON TOP OF THE NACHOS. When the food arrived I asked what was on top of the nachos. One of the waitresses explained that it had “cheese and beans” but didn’t bother mentioning that there was BEEF on top of it. I didn’t question why they hadn’t informed me that nachos were served with beef whilst I was ordering, as I wanted to double check the menu before speaking to them in case I had misread the word beef and confused it for something else like... erm... chili (silly me....). I went down after I had finished my panini and coffee and asked to look at the menu. I then asked the waitress why the menu didn’t state that the nachos came with beef. She replied “I explained that it came with chili”, to which I responded that I assumed chili was chili pepper or Jalepeanos. The woman looked at me dumbfounded and confused. I mean, how do you expect me to know that something is served with beef if your menu doesn’t specifically mention the word ‘BEEF’?! At this point another tall blonde waitress came over and interjected and rudely told me that the nachos came with “chili.. which means chili con carne... which most people understand is beef” and that ‘that there’s nothing they can do about it’. I’d like to add that the menu did not state ‘con carne’ anywhere and only stated the word ‘chili’. You can’t expect ALL customers to know that chili means beef. Bloody joke if you ask me. I explained that I did not know that chili actually meant beef and suggested that perhaps their menu should clearly state the ingredients so that their customers know what they’re ordering. This was a polite suggestion but the tall blond woman sarcastically replied “well, we’ll update it when we get new menus!” and ignored me. At this point I was irritated by the lack of manners and common courtesy displayed. In fact, I was shocked, horrified, mortified...I told the woman that I was a regular customer whenever I visited Sowerby Bridge and that on this occasion I was disappointed with the service. She responded by telling me that “if you were a regular customer you would know that chili means beef. All of our regular customers know that chili means beef”. How patronising. At this point there were a couple of customers waiting to be served but I wasn’t going to budge until I was provided with a refund, which I had asked for twice and had been refused. Initially I didn’t even want a refund. I simply went down to explain that the ingredients weren’t made clear, but her response was so rude and patronising. In the end she reluctantly gave me a refund. Had she dealt with this nicely, offered me a refund to begin with OR EVEN JUST AN APOLOGY OR AN ATTEMPT TO PUT THINGS RIGHT, I wouldn’t have left this review. But I had time on my hands today and was feeling petty so here we are.... bad manners, bad service and an overall a bad experience that I’ll be sure to tell others about....

He estado allí unas cuantas veces en diferentes ocasiones.

Skirting boards hadn't be cleaned for weeks, the toilet was awful, door frames etc etc just everything needed a real deep clean. The baby change unit (not that I used it for a 2 year old) but I wouldn't put a child anywhere near it. Afraid to say we won't go back because of this. A shame really.

My timings were a bit off on the day of my visit. Despite a very late night in Halifax the day before, I found myself at Gabriels and had to decide late morning coffee or early lunch.Settled for early lunch and found myself somewhat selfishly sat at a table for 4 in the middle of the compact ground floor.I would have shared, but I obviously looked too scary! The coffee was good - as expected from reading reviews in advance and the jacket potato equally good and well presented. The service was very pleasant and staff were seen continually running up and down stairs to cater for the folk on the upper level. It seemed to work well while I was there, but I am not sure how efficient the system is during busy periods. The venue is clearly well loved by locals (always a good indicator for visitors) and it would seem slices of cake are consumed almost every minute. Like many local businesses in Sowerby Bridge, you cannot judge by the outside cover. You have to be brave and venture in. This is not a place for big city high street brands. Gabriels is a local business serving local produce to local folk (and passing tourists) These are my thoughts. You may read different views from others in perhaps different circumstances. Visit and judge for yourself!

We booked here for a party of 20 a surprise baby shower. Felt very let down at the lack of customer service. Guests sat for at least half an hour before being offered a cup of tea. Our mother in law ran up and down the stairs with cups of tea and requesting milk and coffee. None of the staff were present at any time to check refreshments or to clear the tables. When the food arrived, it was very little for the price we paid(£5per head) people were left hungry after traveling an hour or more to arrive. When one of the organisers approached the manager politely to ask for more food and stated she'd felt she hadn't received value for money she was met with an extremely poor response and the manger was rude and did not offer to compensate in any way. Some of the guests went as far as to order and pay for more food separately. WOULD NOT recommend booking a party here clearly aren't equipped to cater for party's. VERY POOR SERVICE.

I have eaten here several times and am never disappointed. Everything is fresh, well presented and delivered by friendly staff. I can highly recommend the egg, bacon and tomatoes bap...it is wonderful.

Only recently discovered this small café, but have returned there because it is fast becoming a firm favourite. Although small inside, there is outside seating both front and back. We took our granddaughter and help was freely given by one of the staff to provide and place a highchair. Staff are friendly and helpful and there is a good selection of savoury food and delicious cakes.Although it was Sunday morning and the place was busy with people having breakfast we were not kept waiting and our drinks soon arrived together with a lovely piece of cake. It's also very good value for money. We noticed that wine is available and as the summer approaches we may take advantage and enjoy a glass of wine in the garden when the weather gets better.

This used to be a really good quaint cafe, As you go in the prices used to be clearly displayed above the counter.. All clear pricing has now disappeared and we had to ask for a menu to check the prices There used to be sufficient seating upstairs and downstairs.. but recently many of the small tables upstairs were replaced by padded bench seating (each unit seating @ 6 people) but this has now changed the overall appearance from a quaint village-type cafe to what (to me) looks like a student or inner city cafe/ diner, catering for a completely different clientèle.. It certainly does not feel welcoming. I was there with a friend today and we got in to conversation with an elderly couple across the room and they also felt that the changes had spoilt it. The standard of the food and drink high and both very enjoyable, but I think maybe 10-15% over priced. Staff today were friendly but not particularly welcoming (in my opinion) .. The biggest disappointment today was that we always visit specifically for the quaint scones which were always cooked and served in small terracotta plant pots - which was always a bit different... Today the scones were in white mugs and looked pale and under cooked - but maybe that was the an illusion against the start white mugs... I would urge them top bring back the terracotta pots and also bring back clear pricing and get rid of the 'student/ diner' benches..

I haves visited Gabriel's several times over the years and never been dissatisfied with the quaint little cafe. However, upon visiting last week, I was left very disappointed. We arrived at 3pm and were ignored whilst 3 staff members discussed their working hours. One commented "I'm just knackered"...When finally served there were no scones left despite it being just 3pm. We said we would be sitting upstairs to which they replied "don't know what state it'll be in up there". We went upstairs to find every table covered with dirty plates etc...surely one of the three members of staff could have tidied this area. When we arrived there was only 1 other customer! The upstairs seating has been altered to long thin bar style benches. They simply do not fit in to the small building!! You would struggle to sit at these with ease. Additionally, the small tables with sofas are now I,possible to sit at as there is literally no leg room!! We sat on the one suitable table at the window! Our trip was saved by lovely cappuccinos- such a shame the rest of the experience wasn't as fab!

Second visit as the coffee was great. Quiet when we called in which meant we could have the comfy sofas in the little lounge upstairs to ourselves. It was really busy by noon, obviously a very popular spot for business meetings as well as friends. Child friendly.

I went with 3 friends for lunch and we really enjoyed it. I have a taste card which they accept so we had booked a table upstairs. We chose from the menu before we went up and we had , a beef and red onion pannini, a chicken and bacon teacake and an omelette and salad. 2 large teas and a large coffee. Everything was well made, nice and fresh and well presented. £15.00 for everything with the discount. Improved since my last visit so we will be back

I have been meaning to write this review for a while. Myself, my Mum and my Daughter went to Gabriel's in October last year for my Daughter's 6th Birthday. The sandwiches, cakes and the amazing scones were all so tasty! Made even better by the fact they serve baby bottles of prosecco too for the grown ups. The cafe is really nicely decorated and had a lovely atmosphere. The staff were all so helpful and friendly when booking and on the day too. We have booked in again for this week and we can't wait :) 5*****

Good cafe food at very reasonable prices, a little cramped, but none the worse for that! The 'big boy' breakfast is a real bargain!

I enjoy a bacon sandwich from here - they're really tasty. But, they're so pricey. Usually I'd venture down the road to a more traditional greasy spoon or takeaway for my bacon butty, but sometimes it's raining and I decide it's appropriate to pay an extra £1.50 for a sandwich.

Visited gabriels this lunchtime with my partner for a spot of lunch. We were welcomed by warm and friendly waiting/kitchen staff. The menu is nice and varied- serving breakfasts, burgers and everything inbetween. The breakfasts are served all day too which is great as I fancied their smoked salmon scrambled eggs on a bagel- my fave!! My partner opted for a chicken, bacon and Brie panini which was also delicious. Much to our delight they also have a licence to serve alcohol so was an unexpected bonus that we could have a glass of wine and a bottle of peroni to wash them down with. Before we left we treat ourselves to a 'chocolate supreme' hot chocolate which was amazing And a must have! Will definitely be returning soon.

Stopped off here on our way home from a wknd in St Helens. Was horrible weather so just being in the warmth was a good start Had a lovely sandwich and cup of tea. Others in the group had their home made leek and potato soup. They said it was the best they'd ever had. Would recommend coming here. Staff were all lovely. Thumbs up

We visited this place on Saturday afternoon and it was fairly quiet. It is a small coffee shop with quirky decor and it has the potential to be very good but it really wasn't. I came here with my husband and we had two ( different) cakes and capuccino. Both cakes were; I would say a few days old, solid and dry and the coffee didn't taste very nice either. Disappointed.

Booked in for Sunday lunch and we wasn't disappointed. On arrival we was greeted by the very friendly manager who advise our table wasn't quiet ready. He apologised and we were led to a table by the bar for pre meal drinks. We wasn't waiting long and he showed us to our table again apologising for our delay. Our whole meal was delicious the beef was served to perfection I had mine pink my partner well done. The staff were all friendly and welcoming which made our visit a very pleasant one. 10/10 too all the staff! We will be back.
