Food was inedible. Service seemed to be an inconvenience - staff would rather chat to each other at the back of the bar than serve customers. 'Locals' were allowed to openly vape in the bar next to other customers eating their meal. Awful place.

Arrived earlier today and looking forward to another visit to beautiful Portpatrick. Have never been disappointed with accommodation or food in this beautiful part of Scotland. My husband booked this hotel last minute, and I took a look at Trip Advisor in advance of our trip. We were a little trepidatious with recent reviews. No need to be concerned. A beautiful, spotlessly clean hotel with welcoming staff. Toilets for non residents pristine. Our room was exactly what we were looking for. A lovely space to sleep and shower. I’d highly recommend, and ignore reviews. I’d be skeptical about the integrity of to be honest.

We went for a family lunch, we did not stay in the hotel so can't comment on that. The quality of the food was very poor indeed. Two of us had the chicken burger. It was rock hard and came with a slice of tomato and some mayo in a limp roll. It was nowhere near the expected quality for the price charged. Your average chain burger take away offers a far better quality meal at about 1/3 of the price. Two of our group had the ' chicken rice soup.' it was luke warm and had to be sent back to be microwaved. It was clearly out of a tin and served in a shallow bowl. We left feeling very disappointed indeed and probably on reflection should have complained at the time. We won't be back.

Visited on Saturday night whilst there was a large table in who seemed to have had to much to drink and were speaking to the staff like trash. At one point one of the drunk ladies approached our table and told us not to eat. We heard the place had new ownersn so we gave it a try. So...Sat down and not offered drinks. 4 of us ate, the food was rubbish. 1 x tough Steak, 1 x awful cajun chicken pasta, I had to ask 3 times for the homemade tartar sauce that it says on the menu comes with the fish and chips - I was halfway through my meal when it arrived, my lad had a pizza...ok. The only swift thing to come was the bill but before I had chance to check it the card machine was in my face seconds later. We won't be back, worst meal in years. If the food doesn't improve place won't survive. If the pricing is what it is...make much better food!

We stayed one night at the waterfront to catch ferry to Ireland next morning we were given a room suppose to be a double but was so small we could not pass one and other as the double bed took up most of the room and very small tv at first we could not see a bathroom until we realised it was in the cupboard which you could hardly fit into and to sit on the toilet you had to reverse in as the sink was in the way luckily we are not to large as you would never manage if you squeezed into the shower you would have to open the concertina doors to get some room to dry yourself I will say it was clean but definitely not fit for purpose the public bar is so small and uncomfortable we went next door to a much bigger pub restaurant I am very sorry but can not recommend this to anyone

However we were given an attic room in another property which was outside and along a lane from the hotel.it was abysmal with loose was basin taps and toilet systern handle loose. We were banging our head getting out of bed and going to the dresser was the same. The breakfast was very bad the first morning with rock hard bacon and a soft blob of haggis and the rest was eatable ,just. The service was slow. It was better the next morning with scrambled eggs which was ok. However we had to go outside the property and walk down the lane to the hotel for breakfast. On a lovely summer's day, there is an array of places to eat along the harbour in Portpatrick. I liked the look of the menu here - a bit different - and am glad I gave it a try. Apparently it has just been revamped and the new menu was just a couple of weeks old. A warm welcome was a good start; the inside bistro area is bright and modern and well laid out. The server was pleasant and helpful about the dishes and all was well presented and beautifully cooked.

This really is a great little hotel in a splendid location overlooking the beach and harbour at Portpatrick. Our room was a small double, immaculately clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and that was in a big airy dining room at the front of the building. Everything was very organised and clean. We liked having a large pot of tea on the table. There was a choice of cooked breakfast , toasts, cereals and fruit. We also had dinner here, outside in the sunshine, which we enjoyed very much. Great place, good location, friendly staff and excellent value. Highly recommend and would happily stay here again. Thank you

Just Perfect. Be ready for Beautifully presented Dishes in huge Portions, we had Fish & Chips and The Burger....not as plain as it sounds! Cheese Board was enough for 4 I'd say - with a Smooth Large Port each we could hardly make it back. Won't be eating anywhere else when we come back in the summer.

Nearly 60 years of travel and despite it's cleanliness, possibly the worst place ever. Stayed two nights in the smallest room I have ever been in. As for the bathroom, you had to have the door open if you wanted to use the wash basin. Our room on 2nd floor had a non-seaview and at night got all the noise from those using the staircase and in the courtyard below. Musician at hotel next door sounded like he was singing in our room. Young staff tried hard. Odour killers in stairwell foul smelling that permeated everything.

We couldn’t find anywhere that appealed for dinner in Stranraer; fortunately we figured out that the best eateries were nearby at Portpatrick. What a treat on a warm summer’s evening. Most of the tables outdoors at the front, looking out across the harbour, were taken but in a very warm evening, it was too hot for us to eat out in the bright sun. Indoors was still warm, but more comfortable. We were pleased to see some healthy items on the menu. Meals with boiled potatoes rather than chips and heavy options, along with vegetables. The meals came out in good time. There are clean, modern toilets and of course, when we are not in the middle of a heatwave, lots of outdoor tables. After dinner we enjoyed a very pleasant walk along the waterfront and up to a viewpoint as well as down to the wharf. A great place to spend a summer’s evening.

Beer prices are above market average. Pint of Caledonian best £3.95 - really guys?? As the restaurant got busier we had to wait a long time for our deserts. It was only 2 kids ice cream and 1 x Eton Mess. The place was very busy though so I understand the kitchen was probably under stress. I’m not sure I would go back as it’s good pub grub but at top of the market pricing. If it was top of the market food I would accept it.

I was one of a crowd of eight who booked and visited the waterfront hotel for an evening meal after a game of golf in the Glasgow area. Although I heard only a slight murmering from the other guests they seemed to agree with some of the points I have raised. 1. Although the restaurant was not very busy the service was slow and the time between courses could have been quicker. 2. The soup course was not hot and would possibly considered cool. The main course of salad was well presented and tasty and a request for condiments was dealt with very quickly. The dessert course of vanilla Ice cream was very poor and not worth the money. Three small scoops of ice cream decorated with half a small strawberry was not to be considered value for money. I would not return to this establishment as I do not consider it to be value for the money.

2 course Dinner for 2 with drinks was about £40/£50. Reasonable and big portions. Can recommend the chicken tenders and the steak pie. There was a large table in at the same time as us and there was no real wait on food. They staff were very nice and attentive too. Would eat here again if we were in Portpatrick.

We had a wonderful meal at the Waterfront- both the food and hospitality were excellent. Despite being visitors, you leave feeling as though you have made a friend. Thank you.

What a great find. It was quite quiet as it’s out of season. The kids portions are big only slightly smaller than the adults ones so perfect for big kids. I had the Cajun chicken burger. It was brilliant it was actually Cajun chicken. Not just chicken with a Cajun sauce. Would highly recommend. Not too pricey either.

This hotel looks great from the outside and is very clean and well kept . the room were a bit cramp having seen 3 of them . When shown are room my six year old asked the receptionist why the bathroom was in a closet . It was the smallest I have ever seen . Room 12 . We use our friends to shower it was much bigger. room 14. It should be said that some room are in a converted house exsesed out the rear of hotel across the back yard. The hotel had no atmosphere in the bar just felt very clinical. we spent our time next door .all that said The staff were very helpful and pleasant and the breakfast was good. Looking forward to returning to Portpatrick it's a lovely seaside village but will probably stay in different accommodation.

Staff most helpful, seating is spacious enough you are not on your neighbours knee, food was delicious, chicken stuffed with haggis very nice and other half had a fabulous burger, we both had sticky toffee pudding which comes very highly recommended, average prices for the area, menu changes to accommodate seasonality, and fresh and delicious, would not hesitate to go again

We booked to stay at this hotel before our early ferry to Ireland. On the website it looks nice so decided to go ahead and book. The room cost £70 for one night for two adults and our daughter. On arrival around teatime we were checked in by who appeared to be a owner, very pleasant no complaints and were shown to our room. The room was small though functional with adjoining room with bed for our daughter. I went into the bathroom to be greated by a lot of dust and a huge ball of hair very visibly on the floor.. I stupidly just cleaned it up and put it to the side as these things happen. As it was tea time our daughter was hungry we went straight to a neighbouring restaurant for dinner. We arrived back at about 8 to try and get an early night before our early ferry. I was exhausted as traveling all afternoon and was in early stages of pregnancy just wanted to get to bed. This is when I saw the bed was COVERED in human hair. Not just a few though covered on top and in the bed. I felt physically sick. We went to reception speaking to the same gentlane that checked us in. He seemed to almost not believe us initially and came to look with the housekeeper. Although I had already cleaned some up there was still lots! He apologised and said no other room we could go to as was fully booked. Said give us 10 mins to change bedding. We were shown to bar where we received complimentary drinks, where we had to wait for 3/4 of an hour. I saw the man come back down however he got a young waitress to speak to us and say rom was ready and apologise again. Went back to room Which thankfully smelt of bleach and had a good clean. By this time we were all exhausted and the hope of an early night was gone. I had hoped to speak with Manager again though did not see him as he had passed it to the young waitress. I feel he could have spoken to us himself though obviously wanted to avoid us. I was not happy paying £70 for the quality of room we received, as the object of booking room was so we got a rest before travel. No one when checking out so sadly it was what we were charged. Based on this experience I would not be going back or recommend.

Having initially encountered a menu which offered no vegetarian sandwich options, we enquired if it were possible to have a cheese baguette. This was not a problem, however, on arrival we were shocked, stunned and dismayed to be brought an unsubstantial half baguette which was far from edible... the bread was dry and on the stale side and lacking in butter. I decided to return the food as I truly felt it to be sub-standard. A gentleman, whom I assumed was the manager, arrived to ask for some customer feedback. During this discourse , I was asked “ what exactly did I expect from a cheese baguette?” What I expected was fresh bread, butter and a full sized baguette which is what was advertised. I was told by the charming gentleman that he had tried the bread and there was nothing wrong with it and that expecting it to be buttered was just my personal preference. The tone of the conversation was quite antagonistic and he was definitely not interested in any constructive customer feedback... The moral of this terrible tale is that it’s hard cheese if you want an edible baguette at The Waterfront. In fact the experience was so bad that when I next encounter fromage, I may very well cry! We was robbed! Whilst the kind gentleman did deduct the price of one half baguette, we were still left with a not inconsiderable bill of £16 for three coffees and a merde half baguette! On a lighter note, all was not lost... Morrisons saved the day by providing a perfectly delightful sandwich for £2:00...long live Morrisons!

A good selection of food, and served by 1st class staff who, were more than helpful. Chelsea was fantastic through the day when we booked the meal and we stayed for a few drinks before we went on a small pubcrawl.

Kindly booked us a table so that we could sit in the dog friendly area of the bar. Was very disappointed that there was no mussels even though on the menu. Was informed that they couldn't get mussels from anywhere! Otherwise the food was nice.

We stopped here for lunch and enjoyed the seaside location and buzz from the numerous diners at outside tables, even though we chose to eat inside. There was a short delay because of the lunch crowd but the staff were friendly and helpful. One of us had sea bass in butter and lemon while the other opted for a beef and Guinness pie. The fish was nice but served with excess vegetables, including mini corn that were not stated on the menu and not wanted. The beef "pie" was pleasant but we don't understand how simply adding a puff pastry cap to a stew makes it a pie. (This appears to be a common interpretation in Scotland.) Anyway, we had filling meals.

I had a pick up and it wasn't available and that was fine! But it was at that point that the manager stepped up and sorted out the situation! She just totally stepped up without me having to say or do anything. Thank you so much your amazing customer service and keeping me being disappointed.

My wife and I have eaten in this restaurant on numerous occasions in the past and I must say that tonights meal was the best we've ever had there. My wife had the Salmon and I had the Steak Pie which was out of this world followed by two fantastic deserts & coffees. Could not fault the meal or the service that we received, well done to the management and staff for taking care of us - Thank you.

We were just looking for somewhere to chill with a coffee. It is such a welcoming place. Lovely and spacious with a relaxed vibe. The lady that served us was super friendly. We didn’t eat but the menu was wide ranging, including vegetarian options and fairly priced. We had coffee and tea and it was perfect. I could have sat here all afternoon.

usually love the fajita pasta but over time the sauce and flavour has gone. tonight I asked for more sauce, which leaked everywhere and through the bag and it was so bland. and it's not exexactly a cheap meal. very disappointed
