Water Mill Brewers Fayre in Calderdale

Came for tea with my friend and kids, used to be a great place but was very underwhelmed. The food is mediocre at best, very overpriced for what comes, which may i add was extremely quick which gave the impression it wasn't fresh and clearly not the best quality, asked for medium steak, it came overdone and chewy. Drinks are expensive too. The staff on the floor seemed like they didn't want to be there, no hospitality and the atmosphere put me on edge. However the guy behind the bar was lovely and friendly and it's a nice location in summer by the canal but I wont be eating here again.

Not great. Kids meals had clearly been warmed up as they came out about 4 minutes after we ordered them! We actually waited longer for the ice creams than we did the mains. Burrito bowl was terrible and so overpriced! Astonished that I paid nearly £14 for it, shocking! One of the two staff I saw was playing on her phone whilst pretending to sort out the cutlery. This place has gone down hill! It’s a shame because it’s got great outdoor space and plenty of parking. I’m surprised it hasn’t closed down to be honest. God only knows what the Christmas dinner is like!

Called in as we were passing. Tried their Sunday carvery which was very good. We've been a few times, never disappointed.

It's OK, foods nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about either

Plenty of choice of veg with the carvery and the Turkey was beautiful. There were two problems - the carrots were hard and inedible and every item of potatoes and veg was hardly warm.

I booked a table here today (18th of April) for my dad’s 87th Birthday. When we got there we had no clue what to do, as there were around 30 people queuing at the bar and no staff to help. I asked the guy behind the bar what we should do. We were met with absolute rudeness. Almost frantic behaviour. When challenged with this, he came over to me and my Dad and was rude to the both of us (leaving the massive line of people to do so). My dad told him to “stop getting so exited” he told us “you’ll have a long wait for your table now” At that point I Told him to bollocks and we left and enjoyed a lovely meal with a great atmosphere at Toby Carvery Ainly Top. I will never go here again. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from a member of the team that is supposed to work in hospitality.

Great value Sunday Carvery’s, nice location overlooking the old canal dock and well located if you’re on your way to/from Halifax. My go to if I want a decent value pub lunch.

Dined here twice while staying at the hotel next door for breakfast and dinner both were lovely experiences the hill from hotel to restaurant is a little steep but the hotel help if needed overall excellent experience overall will definitely return on my next stay

Great food for the price. Friendly staff, fast service and clean pub including the toilet area.

Nothing spectacular. Frozen food. Prices of drinks alcohol over priced. New kids area, needs keeping up to date. Not cleaned since built. Outside area bench need cleaning rusty wood. Need new paint. I would only go if I had to. Wouldn't recommend. Sorry.

Went for Mother's Day all you can eat breakfast with most my family. A great time had, food very good but could taste better as a little bland in parts. Sadly though, don't like the idea of staff taking plates whilst still eating. Nor telling us to go before 11.15am, when we booked at 9.30am didn't get all our food sorted until after 10am and spent good money there. We ended up leaving at 11.30am, so a bit disappointed with what they said. Otherwise, it's a great place, accessible for disabled and has a disabled loo too. And there's a sloping road down to play area, where kids can play whilst watching boats or ducks on canal adjacent to restaurant.

Have to wait 20 to 30 mins to get served as bar staff staff in kitchen.. there is never A member off staff at the bar all the time sometimes you have to go looking for staff to get served not good realy

Food was good, staff friendly, cost reasonable. On the whole it was an ok place to eat with the family.

They had a party going on and there were children running around and making a lot of noise.

Gammon a bit fatty and chewy. Service good. Nice setting but no atmosphere in an afternoon.

Stayed at premier inn and went to the Brewers Fayre next door for breakfast. £10.99 for unlimited cooked breakfast which also gave the option to also have the unlimited continental breakfast which is £8.99. There were lots of choices, pastries, jams and spreads, cereal and fruit. Cooked breakfast was ordered and had everything on offer that you wpuld expect on a full english. There was fruit juices and tea and coffee tp help yourself to. Absolute bargain for the price if you have a good appetite and not watching your weight 😋

Went with my mum & my son today 4pm. My mum had steak - over cooked with added price for alittle sauce!. The pie I had was nice but a pre-made one! and added price for alittle gravy! My son had the carvery. Very disappointing! Only a small piece of gammon and a small piece of beef on (& both very fatty, not nice), No roast potatoes, instant mash, cauliflower cheese (looked sloppy). We haven't been here since before covid... & won't be back anytime soon.

I was visiting Halifax and had the Birra Morreti here. We decided to sit outside. Lovely ambience and am told that the food is great. Will definitely come back!

Handy for a Pub lunch unfortunately they don’t offer a sandwich menu at weekends only the full menu

The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent, but the Italian chef truly stood out as the highlight of the evening. His passion for food and the pride he takes in his work were truly impressive. He was incredibly helpful, especially since it was our first visit. The carvery was outstanding—everything was freshly cooked and easily the best we've had in quite some time.

Another nice place to go for dinners and lunches. We normally go here with family. Has a really great food menu and is very popular. Has plenty of parking spaces and also clean toilets

Came here for the carvery on Sunday and I was disappointed the mash used was instant mash and the swede and carrots mashed were like sloppy baby food. Not the best and my partner had what was supposed to be katsu curry with chips she received scabby chips with Chinese curry sauce and a bit of breaded chicken with spring onions and chilli as garnish. I won't be returning as the food was poor.

We often eat here as the staff are so friendly and polite and the food is always lovely. Visited tonight for husbands birthday , was nice to see it busy lovely atmosphere. Well worth having a bonus card been saving the points and got two free desserts. Friendly manager and very helpful also.

Popped in for some food on Tuesday and our server Lola was amazing she was so pleasant and helpful we will definitely be returning she is a credit to your team

Great value meals being served at the moment

Visited today. Had two of the £6 meals ham and egg. Paid an extra £1.49 each to upgrade to 7oz ham. Complete waste of £3 as was served a normal portion. The upgrade deal is a scam

Had dinner and breakfast here whilst at the Premier Inn next door Friendly staff with a sense of humour. Breakfast service was brilliant. The food was spot on 👌

We go here regularly. All the staff are very polite and welcoming and the food is great. We mainly go for breakfast after the gym which is great value for money and plenty of options to choose from

We came yesterday 16 of us and quite a few had the carvery and wasn't good at all, at 4pm they had ran out of beef and even though on till 6pm they did fetch more and the turkey and gammon wasn't good, after one person wanted beef only and had paid the manageress offered steak. Nobody came and asked if everything was OK, to be honest the sticky toffee was the only thing nice. Few complained but nothing was done. Will not return

Absolutely incredible place! Hattie, Tilly and Jacob are incredible members of staff! Really helpful, welcoming and assisted with everything we needed! Can't recommend this place enough!

Been in here loads of times family meals and drinks. Use to work in kitchen then in hotel with my mom Patricia Walsh, back in 1998, came in here today for Christmas dinner with the family 2024 near siddal like down here better than Mixenden

Great food great price great staff never a problem there

Had Christmas dinner table 2 not a good experience. Table was wobbley plates wouldn't sit flat. Big rip in the seat. Wall paper coming away from wall. The meal wasn't great hard sprouts. Prawn cocktail was dry with little sause. Pudding. Hot apple crumble with custard lukewarm sent custard back came back same. We booked here because we came here last year totally different experience prosecco on arrival showed to seats nice meal everything hot like it should be. Will not be booking next year.

Drab and dreary, in need of a spruce inside and out. The place feels like they stopped caring. They are right next to the canal and could really use that! Could be a great pub, friendly staff though!

We come often and every time we are served by a lovely gentlemen, he’s the back bone of this place always busy on different sections and doing anything to keep the place running, always friendly and attentive he could not do more for us, he remembers when we come and even offers discounts as loyal customers, he’s an asset to the company. The breakfast it’s self is average but would always come back as we know we will have a smooth experience.

We booked a table for 6 people, it was ready for us when we arrived. The service was very good. The food all came out together and was very nice. Everything reasonably priced. Since this review we have been back again, once again the service was very good.

Homophobic Manager and male Waiter at 7pm on 29.11.24 refused to give me a complaint form, when we asked kindly. As 2 men with 2 children we were confronted negatively by the the Waiter with bald very little hair and big belly, he told my Husband 'don't you you talk to young female bar staff like that, when all he did was mention missing chips and bacon on a burger. Both will be be fired by Monday when my email go to Chief Ex Shame on them! Disgusting how you made up lies and tried to stay it was us. Disgusting!!!

Come here quite often for breakfast the menu is quite extensive and caters for all even those with allergies. The buffet style breakfast is great as really get your moneys worth. The staff are polite,friendly and attentive to customers needs.

After an early appointment at Caldedale Royal, my partner and I decided to try The Watermill for breakfast £10.99 for an unlimited hot breakfast sounded just the ticket! How wrong we were!! Firstly we were met by the overwhelming smell of bleach as we entered the establishment. The "Unlimited hot breakfast" equated to 1 small rasher of bacon, 1 small sausage, overcooked scrambled eggs, boiled metallic tasting mushrooms, half a half grilled tomato, a hash brown, beans and a piece of inedible black pudding! The cold section was passable with a decent choice, however the coffee was weak and insipid all in all not a pleasurable experience at all, we were both left very disappointed! Then to cap it off, when we went to pay, the card payment machine was not working, fortunately, I had enough cash on me to pay otherwise I would have had to go in search of a cash machine! An experience we will not be repeating again anytime soon! Come on Brewers Fayre, is this really the best you can offer!!

Staff friendly. Clean restaurant, unfortunately not the best food we have had from a brewers fayre but had allot lot worse. Nice restaurant next to the canal.

Not what we expected. We had pre-booked the "All you can get buffet", First we arrived at the wait to be seated. Waited for a couple of minutes and then went in. Empty bar. Empty restaurant. Empty buffet apart from a few pastries and some yoghurts. At back found a lady cleaning the carpets. She told us that she would get the manager to take our order and cook our breakfast. We cancelled because we are vegetarian and the previous experience of the veggie sausages was not good and the veggie bacon was inedible. The receptionist at the Premier Inn explained that the cook to order was to reduce waste on quiet days. I get this for the cooked option (though I wonder if the manager would be happy to make several trips to cook eggs, beans, tomatoes and hash browns to replicate the all you can eat buffet). Also several options were missing which have been at other Brewers Fayre, such as multiple cereal choices, different breads to toast, fresh fruit etc.

We stopped for a coffee on our walk along the canal. Coffee was good and free refills.

Who doesn't love a cheeky Nando's. Great food, staff and atmosphere.

It was fairly quiet be about 19.00 took quiet a while to get food later two women came to order no one serving at the bar

Went here for breakfast with my 2 sons. Service was great and the manager was really helpful and friendly. The kids eat for free so only cost me £11.99 for all three of us. Which is amazing value. Plenty of choice full English, Cereals etc. Tea, coffee and fruit juice. Very pleased and the boys loved it too.

Great food, great service, very friendly staff... very quiet tonight but really nice place to eat and drink...Been for breakfast this morning, really nice, friendly staff, especially Steven, lovely food and a nice walk by the canal to walk it off... If you want a few days away & don't want to do anything this is the place in Blackpool . Nothing is ever a problem for staff.

Food ok but very small portions I had the mixed grill and my half a chicken breast must have come from a sparrow 6 chips 2 tiny sausage hard fried eggs a small piece of gammon but the steak was nice but small The meals aren't really worth the money and drinks aren't cheap

Ordered an apple juice for my child and as they have drank half way thru and realised there belly was aching and checked the food and drink and I find this!!! I am absolutely appalled at this restaurant I am pretty sure it is mould who knows, i asked the waiter what it is and he says I have no clue, what do you expect me to do about it?. I thought that was really rude as I am the customer. Also as I was trying to order my food at the start the worker was having a probably 15 minute chat with some other customers not even about ordering whilst you could clearly see I was waiting to be served and she was ignoring me! not happy at all will not be coming back.

Went for breakfast today as we have done many many times. About 10 people in the whole restaurant area at this time. Was told there was only 1 table left as all others were taken , there was going to be a huge rush!! Wasn't allowed into the restaurant part and was put at a table for 2 next to the kitchen. Finished breakfast and still loads of tables were empty? More than half of the restaurant at least. Not very pleasant , won't be going again. Very unhelpful front of house staff.

Great buffet breakfast, choice and quality both cooked and continental couldn't be better value for money. Relaxed atmosphere with plenty of space between other tables. Staff friendly and efficient.

Friendly staff, good value on food especially with a discount voucher! When it all arrived (5 different mains) all were piping hot and cooked to our preferences. Can't fault it.

Called in for an evening meal for 6, the speed of the food to the table was great, and we all enjoyed our meals, called in for breakfast the next day, buffet, help your self, brilliant if your hungry.

Went to the watermill a couple of days ago with my mum. Lovely staff members are polite and friendly and very welcoming as always. I had the big stacker burger, which was very nice. My mum had the fish and chips she said was cooked perfect. We come from Leeds but alway come here for food when over in Halifax, it's a lovely place to sit outside on a nice day and watch and activity's going on on the canal. Also a little play area for the kids to play on too.

Have been to this place many times prior to our visit . Upon arrival we were met with a sign on door saying find a table and order at bar ( cannot be bothered manning the door ) As we had booked and requested the table over looking the canal(and on a previous visit we were told even though you booked just pick any table) ,we went to the table which had reserved on it(we had reserved) The manager Stephen(new for male Karen as he called me)came over and was verbally attacking us "which table are you booked on " I replied we booked this table and without any other indication that we had not got it we sat down. "Just because you booked this table doesn't mean you have got it"STEPHEN barked at me ! We had no way of knowing that fact! Went to order food and was overcharged a large amount by a 15 year old that was unsupervised at the bar! When I questioned this I was told the bill was correct and she pointed to the vat column . I pointed out that that was the vat! (Obviously she was new but that did not mean she did not have to check . She had trouble getting someone over to help her ,Stephen came over and was at me again " you don't have to dine here" STEPHEN again barked at me . I replied I was thinking of going somewhere else,Steven was extremely keen to get rid of us and asked if he should cancel ,yet as we had travelled so far I decided to stay . Steven sorted out the discount,the 15 year old then asked "shall I tell the kitchen to cancel the food?" I replied "no he has only refunded the discount" Steven then shouted at me "She was talking to him" I said " It was a question about our food" so I had answered the 15 year old(as found out later her age ). He went on a right rant and should not be in a customer service capacity. We sat for our meals and the starters came out really fast, the bread on the prawn cocktail was turned upwards/stale and I would not have served to our dog ,We pointed this out to the waitress.who with attitude said she would replace it. The sharing starter was burnt and dry also. After the first altercation I had decided to start recording as Steven seemed to have an issue with us!(Apparently he had even watched us when we arrived.Grandma took a long time to walk to table,so he had the opportunity to tell us where we were sat instead of just staring at us). Steven came over and said it was private and I was not allowed to record ( I informed him It was open to public and I was within my rights to record his harrasment) He then went on a rant during which he confirmed the unsupervised girl behind the bar "was only 15" It is illegal for a 15 year old behind the bar unsupervised ( I have the video to prove which I am sending to the licence people) At this point I ask for my money back so we could leave,Steven went on another rant whilst during my refund during which Stephen called me a "KAREN " amongst other things . The water mill was quite empty and I can understand why brewers fayre are closing many of these establishments. They need a lesson in a:organisation and b: customer service and c: not serving rancid food. We then drove to a different restaurant that was quite busy and efficient. Stephen you need to find another job ( you may have to when they shut water mill down due to lack of customers) We eat out at least twice a week and don't need this attitude!Whilst the drive in my electric car was inconvenient to the new venue was not a high cost in fuel 30p ,but I would have paid extra £30 just for not to be verbally assaulted!

Decent breakfast but could do better with toast.

We have been coming here for many years as myself and family like walking along the canal on summer days and this has always been our stop off for a drink and a bite to eat. The food is average but decent and everything is fairly priced along with a nice atmosphere.

Fabulous visit for Fathers Day. Staff could not have been more helpful. From making the initial booking for a large group to wishing us well as we left. The food was hot, fresh and plentiful. The restaurant was full due to the occasion of the day and yet the service and atmosphere remained at a level I would expect. All round a fantastic time was had by all and we will return.

It is under staffed so staff are under pressure but serve as quick as they can
