Wards Fish & Chips in Barnsley

Friendly staff, cosy surroundings and delicious no-frills food. The roast beef, onion and gravy bap was tasty and filling.

Went for fish and chips today, was the only one in there, as I was giving the lady my order another woman who worked there rolled her eyes either at me or her for presumably not being quick enough? Either way, it was incredibly rude and unprofessional to do that in front of a customer. As more people came in and my order was ready I was shouted at to move to the other side of the shop to get out of the way? Even tho I was to one side away from the counter? They also charged me 5p for a plastic bag which was actually a bag from the shop “premier”! Anyway, the whole experience in the shop wasn’t great but I hoped the fish and chips would be nice when I got them. Well, they weren’t. They were far too greasy, the batter on the fish was soggy, the fish had skin on and a huge bone still which, had it got stuck in my throat, would have caused me some serious damage! Really can not recommend you stay away from this place enough. There are other fish shops in Penistone, thank goodness.

Done the way it used to be, using beef dripping not vegetable oil. We go there most weeks. They also have a sit-down cafe area behind although tbh we've never used it.

We have been to wards fish shop a few times the fish and chips are always hot the service is second to none and you can have laugh and a joke with them.

Visited at teatime after work. Good food and a quick friendly service. Visited many times and have never been disappointed.

This was my first visit here today - They were recommended to me and I wasn't disappointed. I asked for a fish and a small portion of chips and hallelujah, that is exactly what I got. It made a refreshing change not to be over-faced with too many chips, which I find off putting and wasteful.The food was piping hot and cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly and pleasant and the prices are reasonable. I'll definitely go back and will recommend.
