A proper old English chip shop,not many left.great food,pleasant staff,even offered scraps! No one has done that for years 😄.basic white board with menu and not to bad prices. Would definitely call again.

Super tasty tish & chips from this little chippy. We treat ourselves to food from here every now & then & it's always been really good quality. Light & crispy batter on the fish & neither it nor the chips leave us with that greasy after taste. We definitely recommend a visit!

Have been coming here for many, many years. Lovely little chippy, very reasonably priced. All food cooked fresh, so there is sometimes a short wait. Staff really friendly and helpful, good portions and lovely food.

Felt it necessary to put in a review on here for Tunstall Cross as I have been very impressed with their standards. In terms of food quality and friendly service, they are consistently excellent. I don't know of any other shops I've visited (Including those that usually win the awards) that have surpassed this level of consistency to be honest. Have had some good food inthe past but last week the fish and inner batter were REALLY undercooked, had to leave and throw in the bin, having seen how the owner can react to people I don’t think there’s any point in mentioning it to him.

Fantastic fresh fish. The best in the area. I typically ask for a lightly battered cod, and it’s cooked up straight away; I request it as soon as I walk in. There’s always a queue, but it moves quickly.

Fish still spot on and chips, although still machine cut, are less scrappy than previous visit. Certainly better than most fish and chip shops and not too expensive either.

Their standards are slipping. Chips were cold.

I enjoy fish and chips now and again ....the portions are little on the lean side. The opening times need to be a little longer on a night ...say til 8 oclock ..think they would get more custom.

Really could not complain, have a fine selection on their menu as well as the best chip shop curry in Barnsley, never had an issue with them and they have fantastic customer service! My only wish is that they’d deliver!

Don't know what's happened to the chips but they're now very small and scrappy and not much potato in them, hope they can fix this as this has good a good chip shop for many years.

Bought a portion of chips an they were totally crap! All scraps an didn't look fresh at all. I got about 6 edible chips out of it. Worse chips I've ever had! Very small portion for £1.40 too. Worse part was when I went in for a refund,the attitude from the manager was appalling. I got no apology at all. My friend has since told me last time she visited,her fish an chips were crap too. Won't be going back there!

I love the fish&chips here. Are the best in the area. I tried it in a few places but nobody to beat them at taste and freshness. Highly reccomend. Is a family run bussiness and they deliver a very good service for their clients. I live about 6 miles away and always worth to drive and get fish and chips from their shop 😊😊😊😊!

Without a doubt. The best takeaway fish shop for miles and miles this is based on regular visits as it's local to us. in the distant past I have travelled a good distance to get good fish and chips. But for the last 20 years this has been our chip shop of choice .

I called in here to buy my Friday dinner. It was the first time I'd been here and it won't be the last. They were in the process of closing the shop when I arrived and I thought I was too late, but when I entered the shop, a friendly assistant immediately asked if wanted a fish and one was cooked for me. It was done to perfection as were the chips and peas. The portions are generous and real value for money.

Been coming here for about 15 years and the quality has never dropped which is remarkable I think these days, this must be in the top fish and chip shops in Barnsley, nice big delicious fish & plenty of chips, couldn't ask for more really.

We're still using this cheeky little chippy on a regular basis, and thought it worth a mention on here that if anyone fancies a ride out around South Yorkshire from other area's to call in for traditional fish n chips!!!

We went there after work one night . It was ok fish freshly cooked . Girl never asked if we like salt or vinger. Got home chips alright but you they been cut by machine has lots of bits in with chips Would go again but only get fish and cook our own chips

I used to come here very often when I lived up the road, now there are three other Chippys that are closer to where I live, but I still take the trip here when I can.

Love this chippy,its one of the proper dwindling original chippys..no kebabs etc..the food is lovely,been coming here years and haven't had a bad one,theres no chaos behind the counter and rushing about like you get at some,and you don't get your food thrown at you….be prepared for a queue though as its so nice,its not a late night chippy,shuts around 7.

A smile costs nothing but the serving staff here leave even good manners behind never mind a smile. I did not find my experience something I readily want to repeat. The food itself was OK, and the potato chips were cooked. Portions are small. It was just the sheer convenience of the location which attracted me although parking on a main thoroughfare and the side roads is prohibited by double yellow lines we found a way. There are better in Wombwell for sure.
