Wapping Fish Bar in Tower Hamlets

I used to rate this fish n chip shop top marks for the best tastiest fish n chips and visited for the past 20 years or so. Very nice friendly guy runs the place, I’ve recently stopped using as the past 3/4 purchases have been dripping in grease, uncooked thick batter and the chips not nice anymore…..like it’s a different oil or something. Shame, as it only takes me 7 minutes to walk there. So, I’ve now found a local alternative to buy my fish n chips.

Nice freshly cooked fish and tasty chips made my day. Definitely will be back. I would highly recommend to everyone to try.

This place was great! Staying in an Airbnb close by and the owner was super kind and welcoming. This food hit the spot after our long travels :)

Just landed in London. And we were so hungry. The guys at Wapping came through, even though it was close to closing time, the fish and chips were fresh! We're Canadian so we like tartar sauce, they didn't miss a beat and offered us some packets. I loved the haddock and my partner loved the cod. Giant portion and we were travelling, had to save it for the next day (cant waste!). We just refried it on the pan and got it crispy again. Still held up. Make sure you pop by! They're great!! Ps: battered sausage was also very yummy and we ate that while waiting. They were considerate about how hungry we were and gave us a few chips to munch on too haha

Friendly owner and also gives decent size portions. Not overly expensive and only affordable takeaway in the local area.

Local fish & chips. Chips could be better. Fish is good and tasty. Price is reasonable based in this middle class area. Friendly staff and is located on main road with other shops.

Live locally, but this was my first time in there. The chips were OK - nothing to write home about. Only choice of haddock and cod on menu - no other fish available. Regrettably, the cod turned out to be the worst I've ever had from a fish and chip shop. The batter had absolutely no flavour, no seasoning, no crunch and just came off the fish. The fish itself wasn't fresh unfortunately. Tasted very very dry. Disappointing, as I was rather positive hopes.

If you like cold fish & getting fake notes in your change its the place to go! When in Wapping a few years back I used this place all the time & got good food & service. In these years someone new has taken. A group of lads were also hanging around chatting to the guy behind the counter in what is a very small space, not a great experience.

It's rare you stay in a takeaway to eat, but the customer service was excellent and the food was decent takeaway. Top nuggets.

The fish is rotting - yellow at the edges and smells strongly. This place should be shut down. Avoid.

Warm welcoming people. Great place to go for a takeaway chicken and chips. Generous portion sizes. Will be going there again.

Always empty fish and chips place. I have only bought cold drinks and twice chicken for the dogs. Very friendly and helpful owner so it hurts me to write such a negative review. Goes out of his way to try to provide what you ask for.But the fish don't look fresh so wouldn't risk eating the fish.

How this place hasn't been shut down I'll never know. Chips have been fried about four times. Smells terrible just going past there. Food is disgusting and definitely not fresh. Interior walls dripping with grease. Staff rude. No idea who eats here but they must have iron stomachs.

Moved to the area 3years ago, noticed cabbies always parked up outside (always a good sign👍) The welcome is very east end, full of the old warmth and banter if your looking for it. The food and the establishment is very clean, probably stocks the cleanest fried chicken in east London, I'd say! The chips always look fantastic, portions are very good bearing in mind the location. The fish is always fresh and cooked on request (very unique 10/10, worth a visit just for that). Decent pie's, Curry sauce is absolute magic and the chilli sauce is not far behind. The staff are always happy to help anyway they can. Just catered for my kids party, great food, feel totally looked after. Clean, cheap and tasty, what else do you need....full bellies and smiling faces. 👍

Have lived in Covent Garden next to the first Chippy in England, shoreditch next to the famous poppies and just moved to wapping. Without a doubt the best chips I've had in my life. Be it Michelin restaurants, homemade or Chippy. Can't wait to try the rest of their stuff! X

Fresh fish cooked well, good value and friendly service. This is a traditional fish and chip shop and is a great asset to Wapping.

I used to be a regular here but since the old man has left and his son/cousin has taken over, it has taken a turn for the worst. The server tried to serve me chips which were left over and then he fried again to warm up. I confronted him and he told me all the fish and chip shops do this and he wouldn't make fresh ones. His attitude and manner were disappointing and I won't be going there again. We then ended up going to Poppies in Spitafileds which was wonderful. I did make a point of asking the chef if they double fried the chips and he reassured me this is not what chippies do. My advice: Try poppies.

Great little local chip shop with friendly staff. Portion sizes are very big and great value for money. Fish is really tasty!

Previously was a very poor chippy, but transformed under new owner. The staff are friendly and a good old East End welcome is extended to all. Worth a visit, particularly if you have had a bad experience here before the change of management. Often been offered a little titbit while waiting, which is a nice touch. A welcome improvement to the Wapping scene.

Absolutely amazing food and cannot fault it at all. Best food shop anywhere locally and open at great times too. Staff at the place are friendly and always ready to help in any way necessary. Would recommend to absolutely anyone.

I'm quite new to wapping, but have been to here a few times. Not only is the food good, but the new owner goes out of his way to make sure u get what you want

fish n chips, sausage in batter, fried chicken. All done very well. Friendly service. They often give my kids a little taster bag of chips to keep them happy while we wait.

2nd visit here and still can't fault it. The owner is a lovely man who can't do enough. First visit with three hungry kids saw him give us chicken drumsticks while we waited. This time there was a cheeky bag of chips and a chicken drumsticks for those that wanted it! The food was delish and my three are fast becoming experts in "elephant legs" which were packed with meat on lovely fluffy pitta bread.Great food but the highlight was the hospitality of our East end host with the most.

Since the change of ownership the service and food is much better now, the fish and chips is always spot on and the prices are reasonable for the location. Will visit again soon.

I have never had better food from a chip shop in my life, everybody is so nice. Excellent value for money! The prices are very decent considering its in Wapping.

Really good haddock and chips- huge fish and equally generous portion of fries.Thin crispy batter on the haddock, correctly cooked as were the fries. I mentioned a previous worse than awful visit and the proprietor explained that he had recently taken over. The place was very clean, pleasant and well looked after and was good value at £8, though I suggest a choice size for £6 might suit less big eaters (like I should be)! Please keep up the standard- the area needs this place.

Had great cod from this place and the guys who served me were great. Love the chips and food was served quick.

I'm a regular customer at this restaurant, have been almost every lunch time this month. the food amazing and the customer service is great as well. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Visited this place at lunch time and tasted as if was left over from the night before ! Have to say it went straight in the bin when I got back to work and would never go there again , I would rather starve

Not a great experience. Takeaway fish and chips. Service is friendly but the fish, chicken and chips were bland.

The chips are oily and limp. There are chunky ones and skinny ones and they taste of old oil. The pies are awful because they microwave them which makes them soggy and they are not always heated all the way through. I wouldn't dare try the fish as I value my life and I like living. They need to shadow a proper fish and chip shop for at least a month to see how it's done properly, then maybe they might be able to serve decent edible tasty food. Do not eat here as you will be totally disappointed.

Well, there is not much more to say. Please, avoid visiting this place. We went there, because it was the closest fish and chips place to the place where we stayed. That was a mistake. Fries swam in oil and you can barely feel their taste. they weren't firm at all. The fish, wasn't so bad, but also I guess you can prepare tasteless cod. It's quite hard to stay inside while waiting for your food because of the smell inside.

Sometimes you just need fish and chips (especially if you have lived for many years in Yorkshire). Here they cooked the fish and chips fresh, good batter and not overcooked fish and the chips were perfectly OK. Don't go for the mushy peas. This thin green liquid comes in a small tub and you're told you have to heat it in the microwave at home. It was disgusting which was a shame as the other food was fine.

Absolutely bad service i've been here a few times when i was too tired to cook&i've literally forced the food down my throat as it is tasteless and sometimes the pies are not cooked properly. Also the kebab is really hard and sometimes there isnt any cooked around midday which seems strange to me after all they are a chip shop which doesnt get very busy and the chips are mostly cold or over cooked which leaves a horrible after taste. I also once peeped into the kitchen over the counter to find a little man pouring chilli sauce through an oily funnel into a big bottle which is why i get the urge to vomit when eating food from thos shop. I wouldnt advice anyone to eat here seriously walk another 1/2 a mile and you can find other chip shops in shadwell such as ocean blue which cook their food to perfection. Its worth the walk.

Wapping fish bar Is by far the worst eatery youll ever go to their service is messed up and hygiene is not taken seriously as the server has extremely oily fingers and i detest the fact that the food is almost raw i advise u for your own health to not go there u will regret even taking a look at the menu...and another thing to remember make sure you do not eat their chilli sauce becaise it is disgusting. I saw a dwarf like peraon pouring it through a dirty flannel!!!!!

I have to say first that Im not one for bad reviews however because of the poor food this shop serves I have no choice! Its embarrassing! ! I dont know where to start, The chips are sometimes not cooked properly, The kebab (if they have any cooked) Is rank! And the pies are usually cold and not cooked through. The only food Id recommend from there are the savaloys and seeing as I have only tried that once that probably was a one off. My advice too any body considering visiting this chip shop for a takeaway is DONT! You will regret it.
