Now known as Walkford Cafe. My wife & I had the best full English breakfast we have had for years and very reasonably priced too. Looked after by two friendly young ladies we were able to sit inside with our little dog. FE Breakfasts are served until 2 p.m.

Great ingredients, a shame the good quality toast was pre coated in spread. I won’t return simply because I was a nuisance spending money, unbelievably the coldest and most bitter service I’ve ever witnessed.

We booked a table for breakfast on a Sunday & just as well we did because at 9.30am it was heaving! The breakfast is cooked to order - so don't go there if you're in a hurry! The food was delicious & hot & proper bread used for the toast....none of the cheap sliced stuff!! Definitely going back.

Good,no excellent food cooked freshly whilst you wait which is probably why you have to wait a little longer than in some places as there is only one chef. Coffees and tea is excellent. Place is clean and extremely tidy and you can sit outside and watch the world go by if you can brave the weather.

In no particular order :-) 1. The breakfast was out of this world. To turn a full english into a full scottish was done faultlessly!! The haggis and white pudding was fab! 2. So friendly and helpful there. 3. Really clean and lovely environment 4. When my car broke down and we returned there to wait for the AA, we were given complimentary mince pies!! What more could you possibly ask for. What an amazing find. Worth a trip back for this cafe alone. Always book as so popular.

Service here can be slow, as other reviewers have pointed out, but if you order a coffee and take along the Sunday papers the time will fly by. The boss is a gentle and friendly Scotsman who is on a mission to bring the world’s greatest breakfasts to the residents of Hampshire. And he’s doing a damn fine job. The ingredients are classics (for example Stornoway black pudding) and they are cooked to perfection. Every mouthful was a joy. Will be back soon.

Visited for breakfast and was extremely disappointed with the customer service. The whole ordering process was inefficient. The lone waitress wasn’t even allowed to take food orders and even when she was allowed to take our drinks order, she took an absolute age to come to us once we had sat down at our reserved table. The chef was taking takeaway and table orders in between trying to cook our breakfast which meant that we finally got our food approx 1.5 hrs after we sat down. The chef had explained that there was an issue with the grill however he could have kept us updated about how long the food would be and maybe not serve other customers while cooking our order.Admittedly we could have left after being served our drinks order but we had our grandchild with us and she was looking forward to her french toast with maple syrup. The food itself was ok although the chef could have offered to serve a smaller portion of french toast to our grandchild instead of an adult portion which was clearly too big for a child. At £25 it was a very expensive treat that will not be repeating.

We have been past many times, but never really noticed it; as it is sort of nestled away in a parade of shops. Anyway, we went on a bike ride past it and decided to stop off to see what it was like. We had two veggie breakfasts with mushrooms. Wow!! We both agreed it was the best breakfast we have ever had. The scrambled egg was really buttery, the tomato was perfectly cooked to perfection and tasted amazing with pepper sprinkled on the top, and the thick slab of toast was amazing!! All the ingredients appeared to be locally sourced as well, and all for a cheaper price than many cafes using much lower quality ingredients! It was so good we diverted our bike ride the next day to eat there again. We will definitely be back!

Went here on recommendation and if I’m the area again would return. Very busy, which is a good sign, and food amazing. Very clean, tables chairs all sanitized between each sitting. Felt very safe here as a 1st outing to eat since restrictions lifted. Food cooked to perfection / large portions - and real butter on chunks of crusty toast.Thank you - Tip - you can call and reserve a table, but ring early before they get busy.

We were greeted by a gruff Scottish chef, who at first impressions is a bit scary. He pointed to an outside table, which we declined as we wanted takeaway. He seemed a bit put out that we ordered what we wanted, rather than what he suggested. The food cam out half an hour later which was a bit long for 2 sandwiches, but,he was on his own. Don’t be put off by the coarseness of this guy,it’s his mannerisms. What a sandwich he makes. The food is fresh hot,and ingredients are second to none. We both agreed it’s the best breakfast sandwich we ever had, and we will 100% be going back there when next in town. Support the locals here, it’s been a tough time for them.

We so wanted to like the Walkford Diner, the stellar reviews have tempted us all year, so finally we went! The immediate reaction as we opened the door was...a weird smell, like gone off sausages or fat. We shrugged it off and ordered, the owner is very lovely however a bit short with his staff. Anyway, tea and coffee came, both good, not fantastic but serviceable. The veggie breakfast came as did the Caledonian. Hmmm, that scrambled egg was grey and speckled, I assumed it was pepper but I think it could have been other food particles, the were grey, dry but soaked in a watery substance. The mushrooms, the same, I tried them and they were very soapy and saturated in watery fat. The whole grilled tomato was raw inside. both plates came with a flat oblong potato "scone" I ate mine but it was nothing I ever need again. The Caledonian was an interesting breakfast, the haggis I must say was delicious as was the bacon and sausage meat (think posh spam really). Those parts were the highlight, and the brown bread, a granary loaf. So many things could be right with both dishes but they aren't, not for us anyway. The execution of soapy mushrooms, the scary scrambled eggs, I wondered if everything was done on a plancha where all foods mingle with each other, I could be wrong. This place is a hub, I cannot deny it's local value, everyone knows each other ut the food this time round left a lot to be desired, sorry.

This cafe is local to me and I am a fan of the cooked breakfast. There is a good selection of breakfasts on offer and the standard breakfast, although it only includes one sausage, one egg, one bacon etc, the items are large enough not to leave you hungry. All the ingredients are high quality which is what sets this place apart from most cheap and cheerful cafes. There are Scottish options aswell and the black pudding is certainly worth trying, it's delicious. The downsides are: drinks are not included and bump up the total price - so not cheap. The owner is VERY keen to discuss the details of his breakfast down to the last detail. I can understand he is proud of his quality breakfast but sometimes you just want to be left alone to eat in peace..!

The other day I went out for a meal with my friend. The food itself was great dont get me wrong but I coulnt help overhearing the way the chef spoke to the lady serving me. Have been in here a couple of times. The food is spot on. The owner/manager can be very polite and chatty but I've also been there when he's been quite rude. Recently went in there for a few drinks but later decided to order some food. There were 4 tables taken and who were waiting for their food. When I went to order the lovely girl took my order, gave it to the man who got quite stroppy and told her he'd asked her not to take any more orders. Slightly confusing seeing as it was a few hours till closing time. I understand that there would have been a wait but surely that's for the customers to decide whether they still want to order. The way he spoke/shouted at the girl was disgusting. I may return and see if he's in a better mood or maybe I'll go somewhere where the staff are treated better.

A hidden local gem, so not sure why I'm telling you all! My wife, Golden Retriever and I visit far too regularly for my waistline. The breakfasts are beautifully prepared and presented. My wife loves the coffee, while my favourite is the Highland breakfast - the best black and white pudding I have ever tasted. Both are carefully sourced from the Isle of Lewis. Hoping to pop in very soon for the square sausage special, if I can shake this cold!!

As a first-time visitor, I was excited to try somewhere new, and The Oaks didn't disappoint at all. I'm not a vegetable-ist, but the Halloumi burger was good enough for me to consider it. Prawn and crayfish cocktail ticked all the boxes as well. Staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there is a good buzz about the place, still plenty of pub atmosphere without being too noisy, but also plenty of restaurant feel without being stuffy. Well done, The Oaks!!!!
