Great Sunday lunch!…. Homemade Yorkshire pudding and crispy roast potatoes. We don’t eat meat so had the nut roast, which was probably the nicest I’ve ever had. Staff really friendly and attentive. Local ales. Child’s menu which was also high quality. Prices very competitive. Overall 10/10

This pub is local to me but their lack of customer focus really irritates me. Why not put a menu on your website? Why not put proper photos on trip advisor? That somes up the whole place really - lots of potential but the people running it just seem to get in the way. Food is fine but not as good as similar pubs in the area eg Fox at bulmer. Just not enough attention to detail.

Outstanding. Usually only pop in here for a half but decided to treat a good friend to dinner today (05/11/23). You get what you pay for and you won't be disappointed, the Sunday roasts (beef and lamb, with extra cauliflower cheese) were spectacular. The staff (very busy) were wonderfully attentive and deserving of a decent tip. I'd say a table in the bar (autumn/winter) the best option. Give it a try. You'll like it.

Trip advisor photos are woefully out of date now. Standard classic Sunday lunch where the high end quality, consistency and attention to detail plus value for money shows through time and time again. I highly suggest you book because why this tucked away jewel in Suffolk has not had Micheline stars or Rosettes is a puzzle. Amazing service from Hatti/Thea and the tam.

We had a fantastic meal at The Wagon, the food and service were faultless. The staff had a really great awareness of allergies and there were loads of gluten free options and dishes that could be adapted for me. I ordered some starters as tapas-style main course as I didn’t fancy any of the main dishes. My partner had the fish and chips. We were both surprised at the quality of the food which was much higher than usual pub food, more like high-end restaurant dishes and presentation. Looking forward to going back!

A celebration of life meal the Wagon was engineered perfectly by the team who stepped up the plate at a very emotional day. The presentation, quality and standard of service is extremely high. Had a couple of drinks, rude service (always is to be fair) asked about a table. The rudest one said 20 mins, so we waited. After half an hour we asked about the table and it was ready. I feel like unless we asked, we would never have been told. Finally asked what we would like to order and if we would like a drink. Drinks slammed on the table while the rude waitress just said ok and walked off?!?!Received food which was again slammed on the table, we didn’t get our starter and as no one asked anything about our food we couldn’t say we didn’t receive , we were never asked if we wanted another drink. We complained and to be fair, we got our food for free, but that was not what we wanted! a young waitress was wheeled out to apologise on the rude waitress’s behalf? Why?? Come out and apologise yourself!! Apparently it was some sort of team leader- says it all doesn’t it- just another little power trip freak- you work in a pub, chill out loveN.B perhaps the team leader should be the young girl who was wheeled out. She showed more manners than her apparent superior and was genuinely apologetic. I also note she spoke to her colleagues nicely unlike power trip freak girl

If you discount the periods of lock down the high quality of service, hygiene and food has gone up another level. Having a varied and fresh menu reduces the tired factor of a menu. Having only recently opened the doors almost a week ago due to covid I would have anticipated alot more sanitising stations and guidlines in places for their staff. We was very disheartened to to see not a single sanitising station outside or upon entering the building. It wasn't very safe in the aspect of anybody could just walk on site and take a seat, no temperature checks, not detail recording. All of which are apart of the goverment guidlines. That aside, it had to be said the service was extremely lacking. If they didn't have to actually bring us our food, you'd never see the staff unfortunately. The food however, was amazing! Two points I would bring up would be portion size for the sides ( a little small) and presentation. My plate had gravy splattered across everywhere, just a quick wipe before leaving the hot serve. So after spending over £65 for us, I do feel quiet disheartened on the little service we received however the food in flavour and quality could not be faulted.

Went to The Wagon with a friend for a Christmas celebration. We chose our meals beforehand and these were good, we enjoyed lamb and I had the hake with a potato rosti. Both were nice, the fish cooked well and the flavours delicious, although the rosti was quite mushy/fallen apart completely and my friend did say that the lamb was a tad overdone but apart from that we liked it a lot! For desert we opted for the chocolate marquis and the rice pudding. Both were good and presented well although I do think these could have been a bit more creative and the rice pudding creamier, however it was nice to see rice pudding on the menu (can’t find it in most restaurants!), and the portion generous. We didn’t have one but the Christmas pudding looked incredible! The service was brilliant, we were greeted and checked up on and asked if we wanted more drinks a lot of the time. The decor inside is class and well-thought through although I do think the dinner/eating area is im a bit of a weird location as the main part of the building is saved for big sofas, which was a bit drafty so were quite chilly there, as I think it’s right next to the kitchen door. Apart from that, it was a good meal and we will come again!

My husband and I had the Sunday roast, excellent meat, great veg and good portions. Our children ordered fro the children's menu and we were extremely pleased that they had smaller portions of the adult menu, not a cheaper, fish finger / sausage and chips options as can be found in many places. Grandma was also able to order a smaller portion, which the restaurant was fine with her having rather than insisting she must order from the main menu. The service was friendly and attentive, we did not wait long. I believe the restaurant has been recently refurbished as it was very smart. Visited for a cosy Friday night meal. The menu was amazing - so many things to choose from. Eventually had the tuna which was perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was lively and the staff so friendly and obliging. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Encouraged by the latest reviews of the new Wagon we ate there Saturday night. First impressions are good in that the decor has been stylishly updated without losing the character of the pub and the young female staff are welcoming and friendly. Things started to go slightly awry when my wife's request for a slice of cucumber in her Hendrix gin seemed to invoke a full scale search of the kitchen, but the lamb harissa starter was very tasty. The main courses were however less successful. My wife's pan fried fish was well cooked but lacking any mark of distinction. However my main complaint is that having forked out £20 for a medium rare rib eye steak the proffered cut was thin, unseasoned and more well done than anywhere approaching medium rare. The chips and attendant mushroom and tomato were similarly lacking in anything to elevate them above ordinary pub grub. All the style and friendly service in the world is not sufficient if you can't get the basics right and a good steak is a pretty basic prerequisite for an establishment looking to suceed. All the more disappointing in that the flat iron steaks offered in the Wagon's previous incarnation were a highlight of the menu at a fraction of the price.

Having eaten and drunk at this venue prior to its overhaul and now post re-launch as 'The Wagon', I have to say the change in staff, menu and decor are a great success. Being a lover of real ale now largely living abroad, I hoped the beer - largely Nethergate brewed but guest ales also on pump - would be worth a visit on its own. It was, and I wasn’t surprised to witness the local CAMRA group roll in for a few pints and a plate of sandwiches while I was there. And whoever is running the kitchen obviously knows there stuff as the attention to detail and exactness of preparation of all four meals my little group enjoyed was impressive: two vegetarians (one that eats fish), a celiac and lactose intolerant meat eater, and a full blown carnivore all truly content! Staff were both efficient and friendly. All in a great and not expensive evening. We will return!

This pub has undergone a revamp and it is back to how it was years ago when we first used to eat here. It went down a bit recently but now everything’s improved for the better, decor, staff and food are exceptional. Still some real ales too. There’s a good priced set menu and a good sized main menu. We chose from both and the bill was still very reasonable.

We were staying close by in a Hotel, and wanted somewhere to eat. Having seen the pub earlier decided we would see if there was a table. We found a table and were advised there would be a wait for our order to be taken as it was busy (Friday Eve). Service was good and the food excellent, one of our party is in the hospitality business and has vast experience and he thought he steak to be very good. The rest of the party enjoyed the food and if we were in the area again wouldn’t hesitate to return.

What better way to spend a few hours on Easter Saturday than sitting in the sun eating great food (crayfish salad, flat fish with mienure sauce, risotto followed by brownie with salted caramel sauce). Would very happily repeat on a regular basis.

The building has received a make over. Its been smartened up with new paint and furniture. The management has changed also the staff. That's the end of the good news. From what was a pub with great beer and food to match. Has still good beer whilst the food is average at best. The prices have gone up but not the quality. One of the poorest and most expensive cheese boards going. I used to be a regular, now I'll have to look around.

This was once a bit of a dive and after a complete transformation it is now a smart eatery in Sudbury and good enough for the vicar to enjoy a Sunday lunch . Not sure she would be anywhere near the pub and some of it's dubious clientele in the old days .

I tried to book a table at the Wagon and Horses for Sunday lunch but it kept going through to answerphone. I left a message but got no response. We were going to be in Sudbury anyway so we went past the pub on Sunday lunchtime (3Feb19) and there were no signs of life. I guess it has closed down for some reason but no mention on website, answerphone or notice on pub window.

Christmas day lunch 2018. Starter and dessert where ok, but the main course, - we had the traditional Christmas lunch was awful. Luke warm, watery gravy, carrots sliced so thin you could see through them, parsnips cut up very, very thin, 2 or 3 small brussel sprouts each. Had to ask for more cranberry sauce. Yes they were attentive, too much so if anything. And yes, as always establishments say why didn't you say. Well, because we don't come out on a special day to have to start complaining, it shouldn't be necessary, that's passing the buck to the customer!!! On arrival they said they had lost our choice of menu, after us going in there and being assured that it was all in hand, we double checked with them!!! Certainly not worth the money. The more we thought of it when we arrived home the more disappointed we were!!! Never again!!

Have frequently visited the pub for a drink when in Sudbury (really good beers), but had supper there this evening with my wife and a friend. Monday evening Pie & Chips special, really very tasty. Excellent. The service was very attentive and they could not do enough for my wife who has to eat gluten free. Dog friendly too. Would without doubt visit the pub more regularly if I didn't live the better part of an hour's drive away!

I had to look twice when they advertised two steaks and a bottle of house red for £25 and we arrived the table was ready. Moderately priced drinks before the meal I noticed the quality of the glass ware and the presentation has greatly improved. Both steaks were cooked to the specified requests on a chargrill and everything tasted 'fresh. The 'house' wine was not 'plonk' but well chosen to compliment the superb meat. After finishing with the sweets we both said how Adam and his team are starting to make this place a place to 'book'.

Visit the pub for a band night recently and very disappointed in our experience. Band were fantastic but service from pub was appalling. The pub had advertised the evening as a live band and pizza night so would have surely staffed the pub appropriately but very much not the case-queues of people at the bar every time we went to get another drink and waiting nearly an HOUR AND A HALF for a pizza!!! If we had come out to the pub for a proper meal this would still be unacceptable but this was just for 2 pizzas of all things?!?! Really need to work on staffing as this is poor service by anyone’s standards. The worst part was that whilst we were in the long queue to place our order, a regular walked to the front of the queue and handed the barman his pizza order which was put through as a priority above those who had been waiting in line! Definitely in two minds now as to whether to return for the Beer Festival in August.

I have meant to try the pie mash shop in Sudbury for ages but only got round to it today. I'm really sorry I didn't go before now as it was excellent. I only had a single pie and mash but it was plenty for me. The pie was perfect and the liquor was really good. I will definitely go back.

This has become our go to pub when travelling home to the Netherlands via Harwich. Just a short detour from the main road will bring you to this lovely spot. The garden is pretty and usually we eat outside. Weather was a bit nippy this time so we found a spot indoors. Very charming and quirky. The food arrived quickly and was piping hot. We've sampled most things on the menu over the last few years but I have to say my steak and ale pie was particularly good this time. Such a shame that we can never fit in a dessert.
