Classic Suffolk pub, great for tourists and locals alike. Amazing views of the unique Suffolk coast. Perfect for a pub stroll or spotting nature (saw a deer last time we came). The food is fresh, local, British (mostly) and amazing. Well cooked and served by friendly servers. There is an excellent range of proper beer, wine etc. And it's great for kids as there's a beach out the front!

Another very enjoyable visit to the Butt, this time to celebrate a birthday. The service was excellent throughout and the food matched. I had the ham hock terrine for starters followed by the fish pie special for mains. No need for a dessert, but I squeezed in a STP (Sticky Toffee Pudding) for a rainy day! Servings, we all, commented, where very generous and price was very reasonable. Thank you!

Interesting old pub in Pin Mill and invariably busy. Limited parking at peak times. We booked lunch in the attractive dining room and food and service were very good. Clearly geared up to dealing with large numbers as lots of tables outside if weather favourable. Would go again. Active boating/house boating location on the estuary

Having travelled some distance to Ipswich with my wife and elderly mother in law, to have a late lunch with our son and daughter in law, we were really pleased to find we had a window seat overlooking the Orwell Estuary, the website stated it could not be guaranteed, so we were in luck! The food and drink were excellent as was the service. The real ale straight from the barrel was well conditioned and very easy drinking. Our only disappointment was that having recently returned from Italy my wife and her mom ordered the Fritto Misto, which, apart from the Tempura Prawns, consisted of a range of seafood coated in industrial grade "breadcrumbs" which were a challenge for Nonna to eat, for reasons I am too discreet to detail!! We will definitely go back again, but just be a little more curious about the details of any menu items.

This pub has a wonderful setting literally on the river with lovely views of boats and the boatyard. The outside seating area is a great place to sit and watch the world go by with a drink and food. Part of a chain, they have totally nailed it as far as delivering what (a lot of) people want. It’s dog friendly with a separate dining room for those with dogs but you can take your dog into the bar to order drinks/food. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We had a delicious meal from a varied menu. The menus at other pubs in the chain are different which is good. Also a great setting for a dog walk lunch break. Would definitely recommend.

Quite disappointed. Its lovely that they serve Alborino wine by the glass but it was not chilled. When I went to the bar I realised why, they had it stored in a bucket, not a fridge. It was a really hot day. Not good enough considering the price of the wine. Had looked forward to the roast beef but this was spoilt by being served with bisto gravy and only 3 small roast potatoes. Parsnips were really thin and flavourless. Not a good time of year for Parsnips. Won't come back for a roast dinner.

Located in a lovely spot that we have been to a few times over the years. However , our experience last week was poor. We arrived and were seated at a prebooked table for dinner in the main bar area and informed that we would be served v shortly. 20 minutes later still nothing - spoke to a waitress and she said that we'd have to order food now at the main bar counter - Joined the huge queue and waiting for 10 mins in line. My partner in the meantime was surrounded at our table by the large number of people waiting to be served at the bar (10-15 plus) - noisy, crowded and uncomfortable is the only way to describe the scene. Waited a further 5 mins in line and partner felt so uncomfortable as did I, we simply just left. A victim of its own success but not coping now. In essence, this place we used to come to has been so popularised that it can now cannot cope with demand and the waitresses/staff looked flustered and stressed and not one asked if we were being looked after ? ..disgraceful ! Not a place we will return back to again to .....sadly.

Such a lovely place to visit, sat right on the banks of the estuary. Traditional food served, perhaps priced a little on the high side but good sized portions and delicious none the less. The pub can be found at the end of a narrow windy road, parking can be a bit of an issue here, it has a small car park of its own, and there is another small car park a little further up, not sure I would be brave enough to leave my car on the side of the road. but it is well worth the visit. Once you’ve been, you’ll definitely want to come again, the views are absolutely amazing. Well worth booking in advance. Pin Mill is a great place to walk - the scenery is hauntingly beautiful, with semi-submerged boats sticking out of the mud. There are fields and woods and a coastline to look out at. And then there's the Butt and Oyster, a pub restaurant that knows exactly what it's doing. It has flexible times, a great menu, and - perhaps most impressive - superb staff. We dropped in today and - with Molly, our border terrier - and had a great lunch to justify our walk. Fish and chips ... burger ... sticky toffee pud ... what's not to love? The service was excellent - friendly, informal, welcoming, relaxed (thank you, Robin). We like the mix of set dishes and specials on the menu. We like the various rooms they have for eating. We like the location. But most of all this is a pub restaurant that doesn't try too hard to be fancy: it just serves up great food, and does so extremely well. It's another Suffolk gem.

Lovely setting, and the building has quite a lot of history. It was a very warm day so we were expecting a full house, we had a table for 7 booked, so no issues with getting a table. A lot of people using outside tables, as a dog friendly inn and a popular area with dog walkers, many of these had dogs, plenty of water out for them. Inside was lively but still some tables available for walk ins. Some nice views of the river through the restaurant windows, tables and chairs ok but benches have long cushions on, these keep sliding forward f constantly having to all stand up to move back else we would have been on floor. A good selection of food on menu and special board, we didn't have to wait long for our food. Some of us had starters and these were hot and tasty. The mains all came together no one had to wait but would say 3 of us commented on luke warm food rather than hot, this tended to be the vegetables. Not cold enough to complain though but not what I have encountered before at any other deben inn, food has always been good temperature. Overall a great place to visit but beware of parking restrictions, especially on a busy day, would give higher marks if food was good temperature.

This is a beautiful building in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately the food wasn't good enough to make us want to come back, and some of the staff weren't cut out for working in the catering industry. Our starters were good - miso chicken wings and calamari. These were hot and fresh and tasted good. But the sirloin of beef roast was awful. The beef was cut so very thin it felt stingy and yet still managed to be tough and chewy, the roast potatoes weren't crispy and fluffy but solid in texture - I didn't eat mine, and the cauliflower cheese - the sauce was lovely but the cauliflower seriously undercooked - it wasn't al dente or had a bite - it had just about been blanched and then covered in cheese sauce, great if you finish in the oven, but this hadn't been. And at £20+ for the main course, this was not acceptable, We won't be back, such a shame for a gorgeous pub
