Delicious food and great service. I had the beef pie . It was hot, packed with beef and the side vegetables were really delicious. I swapped the mash for chips and it was done without hesitation. All the staff are friendly and attentive. I had the Strawberry Eton mess for desert and this was the best Eton mess I’ve ever had. It had layers of strawberry coulis in it and was a really substantial serving. We all had a really great meal.

I’m giving 5 stars as I feel my review isn’t to do with the food or service so not fair to leave a neg one as I’m wanting to. The issue is the qparking we had a three o’clock booking arrived around 2pm because of the parking situation warning from a previous review, we couldn’t find a parking place, overflow, side of roads, the pay and display, the only parking place we found was in the back of the pub there was a space but a car was illegally parked in front so we couldn’t access it ! I made one phone call but it was to no avail we could barely get back up and out as the road isn’t wide enough for two vehicles we decided did to the stress of not find a parking place we had to go find somewhere else, I’m sorry if we didn’t call to cancel our booking just that we were on the road finding somewhere else there was no way we were going be lucky and get a space not with all the oncoming vehicles going into the place them being unlucky as well ! What a shame we really wanted to try this place ! Had the reservation and everything. We’re not happy.

The food was delicious. I had the pan fried cod fillet, crushed new potatoes and sprouting broccoli. The cod was cooked beautifully, with large soft flakes. My husband had the burger 🍔 he really enjoyed it. The Butt and Oyster is part of the Deben Inns group, on certain days of the week they have special offers on their Deben Inns app. We went on a Saturday, so there wasn't an offer but the bill for 2mains and 3 drinks came to just over £60 which we felt was a fair price for the quality and quantity. We enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend the Butt and Oyster.

We arrived to find the car park was completely full so bear this in mind when booking and allow extra time. We waited until a space became available and the pub is a short stroll away. The pub was as I expected, old and cozy in a picturesque setting on a river. This was our first visit and we were lucky to get a last minute booking for my husbands birthday. The pub is very popular and very busy, hence parking us difficult. Now to the food: we shared chicken wings to start, they were succulent and flavourful without having the usual BBQ/honey sauce drizzled all over them. Somehow they seemed more healthy. We both ordered the pan fried cod with crushed new potatoes and brocoli. There was some background flavouring without actually having a sauce. It was totally delicious and cooked to perfection. Then we come to the Tiramasu - so moist and probably the nicest I have had in a restaurant. Staff were great. Compliments to the chef - we will be back.

We’ve just got home from the Butt and Oyster and I had to come straight onto here to try and put into words how darn good their roast is. As someone who’s worked in hospitality I can admittedly be quick to judge when out to eat, and I also know how much good reviews mean to a hard working company. They clearly are heard working here, and the staff we encountered tonight were all lovely and polite, which always sets a good tone for the rest of your evening. It’s a super cosy pub with lovely atmosphere and cosy log burners. I had the pork belly roast (with two very generous slices of pork belly) and my husband had turkey roast (I was dubious of his choice as turkey can go so wrong- but it was delicious). All the trimmings were cooked to perfection, amazing potatoes, a homemade yorkie, and the red cabbage…incredible! A good slosh of gravy too, which is always appreciated in a world that can be so stingey with their gravy. The bill was a very reasonable £74 with 2 alcoholic drinks, 1 soft drink, 2 starters and 2 roasts (absolutely worth their £20+ price in my opinion). We left absolutely stuffed and satisfied. This is may be our third/fourth time at the butt and oyster (first time having a roast there)- if we didn’t live an hour away, we’d be there a lot more! Thank you!

Having travelled some distance to Ipswich with my wife and elderly mother in law, to have a late lunch with our son and daughter in law, we were really pleased to find we had a window seat overlooking the Orwell Estuary, the website stated it could not be guaranteed, so we were in luck! The food and drink were excellent as was the service. The real ale straight from the barrel was well conditioned and very easy drinking. Our only disappointment was that having recently returned from Italy my wife and her mom ordered the Fritto Misto, which, apart from the Tempura Prawns, consisted of a range of seafood coated in industrial grade "breadcrumbs" which were a challenge for Nonna to eat, for reasons I am too discreet to detail!! We will definitely go back again, but just be a little more curious about the details of any menu items.

It was a really hot day. Not good enough considering the price of the wine. Had looked forward to the roast beef but this was spoilt by being served with bisto gravy and only 3 small roast potatoes. Parsnips were really thin and flavourless. Not a good time of year for Parsnips. Won't come back for a roast dinner.

Located in a lovely spot that we have been to a few times over the years. However , our experience last week was poor. We arrived and were seated at a prebooked table for dinner in the main bar area and informed that we would be served v shortly. 20 minutes later still nothing - spoke to a waitress and she said that we'd have to order food now at the main bar counter - Joined the huge queue and waiting for 10 mins in line. My partner in the meantime was surrounded at our table by the large number of people waiting to be served at the bar (10-15 plus) - noisy, crowded and uncomfortable is the only way to describe the scene. Waited a further 5 mins in line and partner felt so uncomfortable as did I, we simply just left. A victim of its own success but not coping now. In essence, this place we used to come to has been so popularised that it can now cannot cope with demand and the waitresses/staff looked flustered and stressed and not one asked if we were being looked after ? ..disgraceful ! Not a place we will return back to again to .....sadly.

Top beers always here, faultless changing selection, super service, log fires in thatched pub. Just need to watch the low ceilings! Astonishing value for the quality of ales.

I paid a visit to this pub on my travels and found the staff were inviting and friendly, a good selection of beers and food available, great atmosphere and very nice decor, ample parking available would highly recommend it to all who visit.
