Volta in Manchester

We were looking forward to our meal here for a while as it was our friends favourite! We arrived and got a nice welcome, one of the cocktails we ordered wasn't right and the lady behind the bar was very accommodating (removed it from the bill) but I am not sure if that got our card marked. We ordered our food and they were accommodating to some allergies within our party. Whilst eating the meal, one member of our party got a bit of steak caught in his throat, tried to clear it with a drink which resulted in all coming up and landing on the floor under the table. Embarrassed and mortified by the ordeal, he waited until everyone else had finished their meal and then went and requested some blue roll to clear it up, he made sure nobody else touched it and ensured it was cleaned up. When they took our plates away they asked if we would like anything else, we ordered a few drinks which they server seemed happy with. Then, the original waitress (tall, young and blonde) came up to the table and accused that person in the party for being to drunk and she wouldn't serve us which we responded he has had one glass of wine at the table. She responded saying you have had cocktails too. The individual who she stated was too drunk to be served had had two drinks the entire evening - one cocktail and one glass of wine. Nobody at the restaurant actually checked if he was okay at any point or even communicated with us - she would have clearly seen he wasn't drunk and disorderly if she had made any effort to seek this information out. They then said they were happy to serve us, however at this point we didn't feel comfortable staying. An event that totally spoiled our evening, as a group of four friends in our 30-40s we do not expect to be falsely accused of something when enjoying a civilised evening. The member of staff was totally unacceptable, we are incredibly insulted and it really questions the integrity of the place.

Gorgeous small plates, everything we ordered was a delight. Favourite dishes: bavette steak, scallops and the hispi cabbage was to die for! There was also so many gorgeous veggie and vegan options. I can't wait to return.

Went on Saturday evening and from the minute we sat down the service was perfect. Great margaritas and brilliant wine menu too. The food was outstanding and stands up to any of the new kids on the block in Mcr. Group of 5 and we ordered pretty much the entire menu of small plates. Each one well considered and thought out. Notable highlights were the buratta/tomatoes, the cod, and the crispy goats cheese drenched in honey. It was so good that we even ordered one of each of the puds. All outstanding, the STP was up there with the best I've had. Will return soon. Thanks Volta for a great evening.

Family Sunday lunch. Really enjoyable Sunday lunch. Pork roast superb. Rustic set up - room just about warm enough. Good Malbec by the glass. Efficient friendly service.

Too expensive for what it offers. 10£ for a tiny burrata that doesn’t come with bread/toast??? Also, the anchovies were hilarious! They looked like very thin 4 lines of something that looks like slug trails 😭 Wouldn’t recommend.

No sé por dónde empezar en lo increíble que es este lugar. El ambiente, el personal, la música hacen una sensación encantadora que instantáneamente te ayuda a relajarte. La comida es honestamente increíblemente buena. ¡Nos encantan los asados! Hemos estado en 12 años en el norte, el sur y todo lo demás, pero lo que se ofrece aquí encabeza todos los pubs y restaurantes que hemos probado para un asado de domingo antes. De verdad, el jefe de cocina debe ser Dios. Carne tierna, suculenta y sabrosa. Crujiente, sazonado, pero un poco de verduras suaves. Exquisita salsa, queso coliflor para morir. Relleno de bolas con esteroides y cerdos y mantas para arrancar. ¡Es como la cena asada de todas las cenas! Ningún lugar puede compararse. Gracias Volta, enhorabuena y bien hecho! Nos vemos casi todos los domingos hasta el final de los tiempos.

Teníamos el menú establecido por £ 35 por cabeza. Muy recomendable, sabroso y de gran variedad de verduras. Ambiente encantador y personal amable.

My family requested we went back to Volta as the food is unreal and the people are lovely! Most of the staff were happy as always and the food delivered. That said, this instance we had poor service from a blonde person (assuming female and apologies for the physical description). Just made the experience awful. We try to stack plates, hand the things to make collecting plates easier, be as polite as possible...but they seemed to simply just loathed us not sure what we did, didn't ever engage with us, say anything, say thank you for coming... anyway general experience was ruined by this person. 7th Feb 2025.

Wouldn’t mark the place down as I didn’t stay to eat. Was expecting the January offer menu, however wasn’t available on a Friday, despite that not being said on Manchester’s Finest and the offer details not being on their website that I could see. Fine, a misunderstanding. But I got distinct ‘you’re just a cheapskate’ vibes from the staff. May have stayed and paid full price if they’d deployed a bit of pleasant humour. But huffiness abounded. So nah.

Excellent food, excellent service and great ambiance- we had the old favourite of the lamb and labneh which was both succulent and warming to the extent ithad that beautiful numbing quality you get from Szechuan cuisine?! we also tried the HB cabbage and them broccoli which we’re both excellent and almost felt like mains in of themselves - this was highly satisfying for my vegetarian friends I recommend coming down here it’s almost worth a trip to Burton Road just for this . They also had a great selection of wine.

Best food on Burton Rd, absolutely delicious! Super Sunday roast too. Great atmosphere and lovely wine list.

Food is good, but really quite overpriced

Stumbled in here by chance and weren’t disappointed. Pork and the potatoes w/aioli were a particular highlight. Service was attentive & friendly with good drinks selection too. Would definitely be back!

Popped in here for lunch. Couldn't decide what to have so ordered the set menu for three at £35 per head. One of us was a veggie. Everything was absolutely lovely. Hot. Fresh. Scrummy. Couldn't fault anything and we were absolutely stuffed. Highly recommended.

Had set menu/banquet- absolutely brilliant! Friendly staff too. Will definitely return as food is so good and bit different.

Please can you pass onto the chefs who cooked for us today - how incredible the Sunday roast was? The best I’ve ever eaten. Don’t tell my mum.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was quite nice, especially the garden area was very enjoyable. The menu had some interesting tapas-style dishes. However, the staff was not very attentive, which was a bit disappointing. We ordered a few dishes, and while the presentation was good, the taste didn’t meet our expectations. Specifically, we ordered the shawarma, but the meat was very dry. Unfortunately, due to the lack of flavor, we won’t be considering this place again.

Great selection of vegetarian small plates which have amazing flavour combinations. Good service too. Covered outside seating if required.

Unfortunately we were not served the lunch deal meal when we arrived at 5.25 ☹️. I know that's a bit late but still...

Have to say would have given this place more than 5 stars if I could. Service was great and really friendly. A great selection of small plates on the menu and we probably ordered too much but my God the food was amazing. Seriously, every dish was just delicious. Will definitely be going back.

Excellent food and great service!

The food is great here and the service is friendly. We're vegetarian and found plenty of options on the menu. Plus, they were all really tasty. We'd booked a table inside for a late lunch but ended up sitting outside in their covered seating area as it turned out to be a nice day, and the air-con made it quite chilly inside. I 1000% recommend it here, and I'll definitely be back.

Plates are far too pricey outside of the offer with miniscule offerings. Top marks to a lovely waiter I understand is Finlay.

Best small plates restaurant in Manchester without question. Every dish knocks it out the park, highlights were the north African spiced sea bass, crispy hispi cabbage with black garlic and miso aubergine dip. Great value for money, especially the lunchtime deal. Staff all very friendly and down to earth, great vibes. Compliments to the chef 🤌🤌

First time and not disappointed. Great food and service. All dishes were delicious and tasty - we practically waddled out at the end of the meal as so full. Highly recommended :-)

Update: I have finally visited again, this time the service was good and waiters were very friendly. The coffee was unfortunately not good at all: what we call railway station coffee. However the alcoholic beverage I brought was of good standard and taste from the wine menu and I throughly enjoyed it, they also have a good selection of wine. The scallops were also very tasty and I can recommend that dish to anyone visiting. The place itself wasn’t too busy, the exterior seemed drabber than I remember and I didn’t feel as inclined to sit outside. All in all was a better experience but they are slightly missing something to be considered ‘amazing’ However I can recommend as a bar with nibbles, as a couple of dishes paired with one of the nice wines is definitely worth a try if that’s what you’re after.

We had the set menu as there were a few of us… initially I was a bit sceptical as it was heavily veg oriented, but what a treat it was. Everything was spot on.

The BEST food in Manchester for flavours, value and service. We don’t eat meat but the vegetarian and fish options are plentiful. Highlights from last night - butternut squash chershi with crispy chickpeas and herb oil and the Halloumi with courgette puffed rice and roasted chilli was to die for. Can’t forget the Harissa roasted cauliflower either. Seriously good, rich flavours. If you are staying in Manchester, it’s worth a cab or Met ride to Didsbury

A nice and intimate restaurant serving small plates. Service was good and quick and everything was well presented. Food wasn’t as good as I expected from the reviews but will definitely go back to try out some other dishes. Roast potatoes were amazing, shawarma was very good and the pitta was good and so soft too! Didn’t rate the steak which was too charred for my liking & I wasn’t a fan of the sauce it came with. I couldn’t imagine ever not liking halloumi but the sauce ruined it for me and the courgette that came with it was bland and tough. The feta dip was nice but wouldn’t order again. Glad I went on the 3 for £15 lunch offer which is until 5pm on weekdays.

Food is absolutely delicious. We had a fab dinner - small plates that aren’t THAT small and everything we ordered was really good. Only small criticism was we were rushed off our table and the bill was put in front of us even though we hadn’t asked for it! Guess they needed the table but it hadn’t been made clear to us when we sat down that we were “on the clock”!

We absolutely love coming here - gorgeous food, gorgeous wine, gorgeous atmosphere and always super good service. We’ve now been a few times and tried most of the menu… Highlights for me are the Steak, the goat’s cheese and of course the unbelievably crispy potatoes!

It isn't the cheapest place, and being a Burton Road establishment it's not large either, so if you're visiting at a busy time (Fridays and the weekends from experience), it's worth booking. But it's it worth going? Oh yes! A fantastic selection of small dishes (think tapas, but not specifically Spanish - there's influences from all over here), complemented by an excellent selection of inventive cocktails (as well as wine and a nice beer selection, if that's more your thing). Vegan options are rather slim, but there's a good vegetarian selection (my other half is willing to compromise for a night out, thankfully!). The staff are fantastic -- friendly and happy to recommend pairings of dishes and drinks, and the quality does not disappoint.

Had the lamb shawarma from here on 3 separate occasions now and every time it's been exceptional. Great vibe too!

This place is a gem. The £15 deal for 3 selections - I struggled to eat it, but it was so damn good I really tried. Strips of rare, succulent steak for lunch? Yummy.

A fabulous place for small plate food. We had 10 dishes between 4 of us and everything was amazing. The best ones were the scallops (dip the potatoes in the juices - wow), leeks and hispi cabbage. Only thing missing are some hooks for coats when sitting on the High table upstairs.

Excellent food. Took advantage of the January offer which was brilliant. Standout dishes were the aubergine dip, scallops, charred leeks and the good old, roasted potatoes. Good service to boot.

Visited as had seen they were doing a 3 small plates for £15 deal in January So pleased we went. The service was great and the food superb. Shared the lamb shawarma and 3 small plates of cauliflower, cod and padron peppers. All were superb. The shawarma was great with spicy and cool sauces. The cod was in an amazing sauce and the cauliflower so tasty. All very different and lovely. Will definitely be going back in January again

Brilliant food tonight. I can recommend the "volta experience" selection to get a taste of the majority of the menu. Steak was amazing.....all the dishes were fantastic.

Always a pleasure to visit this establishment whilst in the area. The food never disappoints and they also have an extensive alcohol menu. Outside seating is a boon in the spring and summer months. Highly recommended.

The food is always absolutely banging, probably my favourite sharing-plates restaurant in Manchester. Every time I went I ended up ordering more at the end because of how well everything is cooked and how delicious the food is. The staff are all so lovely as well!

All in all a very good experience. The 3 for £15 early bird menu provides a great deal of veggie options and excellent value. All the food was extremely tasty and well presented. Nice beer from breweries such as Deya and Shindiggger available for typical south Manchester bar prices. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

We recently had our staff Christmas lunch here and opted for the 3 dishes for £15 lunchtime menu, with some flatbread and potatoes as sides. Every one of the 6 plates was completely delicious and definitely sufficient for our healthy appetites (we didn't have room for an entire dish so brought that home for supper as we couldn't bear to leave a morsel!) The staff were really warm and welcoming, the mulled wine was excellent and we would happily come again! Thanks, Volta, and Merry Christmas!

Food was beautiful really tasty. We shared 5 plates and some potatoes. Had sticky toffee pudding for afters it was amazing. Can recommend the blood orange margaritas. Would definitely go back.

I've been here twice in 3 weeks because the food is a-m-a-z-i-n-g! I've dreamt about their whipped feta and crispy potatoes for days. But secondly, the service is outstanding. Super friendly and really attentive. Andy served me on both occasions and he was fantastic at giving recommendations. I cant wait to go back!

I went for lunch today and it was lovely. The lady who served us was Excellent, very attentive. I recommend the hispi cabbage, yellow curry cod, potatoes with dip and the steak 😋 Really enjoyed our meal I have been before and the food is always to a high standard

Fabulous food, and good portion size. The chairs are a tad uncomfortable, but the cocktails numb the pain 😉

Every dish was very tasty and there was plenty of choice. The staff were really helpful and gave good advice on what to order. We shared 8 dishes between two of us, and also had dessert and drinks. Some dishes understandably more pricey than others. Unusually for us we couldn't finish everything and had to get a doggy bag! Will definitely be back to try some of the other tempting dishes on the menu.

Really nice food but very pricy.

This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in years. It has a super interesting and eclectic menu and a really chilled out vibe. I ate outside on the terrace and really enjoyed a fab glass of white with some mushroom croquettes, tandoori monkfish with cucumber chutney, even the brocolli was good!!!

Came for the midweek small plates deal. Excellent value and quality was considerably above the price point, even without the deal would still be excellent value. Definitely no skimping on portion size. Inspired menu and left in a food coma.

Met some friends for a casual catch up, non alcoholic for me as driving. Nice vibe, we just had drinks as had eaten previously else where. Came to pay with male waiter and I added I would also pay for my friends and he said to me sarcastically tell me when your really sorted and walked off in a huff? Thought that was strange as I did. And he did hear me, he seemed abit upset with his tablet. Anyways reluctant to go back with such random rudness.

Consistently brilliant, never disappoints.

We had lovely dinner here, they are quite busy but still very helpful and friendly service. The aubergine miso dip and the dry fried green beans are very impressive. 6 tapas are plenty for two of us to share. Dog friendly and smoking friendly if you sit outdoors. Overall, a very local but tasty place to go. Will definitely come back again.

Love this place such good food an lovely wine

Lovely atmosphere, this was my first time visiting Volta. Staff were friendly and attentive, the food was delicious and not too long a wait. The overall look of the place inside is spot-on for a dimly-lit date night. Im not sure I’m dying to go back as a regular place as nothing majorly stood out, but I would still give it the 5 stars.

Not normally a reviewer, but had an impromptu lunch yesterday after the makers market, we were with a vegetarian so didn't have meat or fish, but didn't miss it at all! Food was amazing, so much flavour and very reasonable, we ordered a good amount of food and it only came to £20 ish each (with coffee as opposed to alcohol) we came away very full - would highly recommend!!

Nice little restaurant with cozy ambiance. We went there for lunch and they have this £15 for 3 small plates deal, the portions were, as it says, small but the food was surprisingly delicious. The chef works magic on the most ordinary ingredients such as potatoes and cabbages, glad we ordered both because they were amazingly good 👍🏻👍🏻

Fantastic small plate menu which is great for sharing and socializing over. The food is very good for the price although the portions could be a little more generous. The staff are skilled and friendly and can make an excellent flat white.

Came to celebrate finishing uni and had the best time ever! Andy served us and was an absolute delight :) the food was delicious and all the staff were so helpful and kind - will 100% be back!

Very good food, comes with a price tag though. Great place to have tapas and order plate after plate but some of the fish/meat dishes are pricey for portion size. Delicious though. Yolo

No me impresionó en absoluto, pagué 18 por un asado para llevar, que me pareció insípido. ¡El pudín de yorkie era como un ladrillo y las patatas asadas eran horribles! ! ! Las verduras y la carne no estaban tan mal, pero está bien, ¡todo lo recomendaría! ¡Especialmente por el precio exorbitante! ! !

We have been here a few times over the last few months. No complaints, good food, atmosphere and service. I would suggest having at least 6 small plates between 2. There’s a covered outdoor area to the front also.

Four of us for lunch. The girl who bought food to the table and took payment made us feel very unwelcome. Dinners were tasty but the gravy was rationed. We asked for more but still not enough to stop food being dry. We wouldn’t return as smiles not included.
