Vivo in Doncaster

This was our first visit to this amazing Italian restaurant. From the point of booking the table to leaving the restaurant, I can only give a view of outstanding. We were celebrating a birthday, and all the arrangements went exactly as planned. The friendly service was exceptional, the food was amazing, easily the best Italian restaurant I have ever visited. The Vivo is definitely worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.

Vivo is my favourite restaurant in Doncaster & go to for any nice meal out or special occasion. Never had a bad meal & have been returning for many years. Service is always perfect, staff are very friendly & very accommodating. Front of house Dan will always try his best to squeeze us in even when booked up. Highly recommended the garlic breads, pizza, pasta & my favourite the chicken dolce latte. You won’t be disappointed in this authentic, Italian family run restaurant 🇮🇹

This was our first and definitely won't be our last. Lovely restaurant with a very friendly atmosphere. The staff were lovely and the service was excellent. We came for my daughter's birthday and everyone's meal was excellent. Would definitely recommend this lovely restaurant 😊

Great evening with friends. Staff very warming and welcoming and lovely authentic environment. Meatball pasta dish was very nice and reasonably priced.

I would never usually leave a bad review but I feel we were left with no choice. I ordered a risotto dish as my main dish and when it arrived it was not risotto, risotto is small grains of rice which is creamy and rich but instead it was long grain rice in a watery broth. The front of house guy came over and told us that they had run out of risotto rice so they had to use long grain but this was not explained to us upon ordering the dish. Then went on to charge us full price for the dish which was hardly touched and was honestly not very nice. Sadly we will not be returning and would definitely not recommend to anyone who knows and loves their food! Extremely disappointed

First visit to Vivo and we loved it. Small and traditionally decorated, full of atmosphere and a warm friendly service. The menu has a good choice from pasta and pizza to meat and fish dishes with some interesting specials. Husband had tiger prawn starter and I had creamy garlic mushrooms. Both were lush. Mains was seabass in white wine sauce finished with prawns and husband had fillet steak. Both dishes came with lovely side order of roast potatoes and braised vegetables. Finished off sharing a tiramisu (home made and gorgeous). Lavassa coffee excellent. A busy Saturday night with a birthday party, but service was prompt and nothing too much trouble. We will be back and recommend to friends and family. A little way out of the centre of Doncaster in Bennetthorpe but well worth the trip.

We go regularly and have always enjoyed the food but not on this occasion. My husband ordered a medium to well rib eye on the specials. It came rare. Sent it back. When it came back he took one bite. It was awful. The staff were attentive and sorry. But will stick to pasta if we go again

Brilliant authentic Italian food, service and ambience. Great service, piping hot delicious food, just a great experience.

First time at this restaurant and I really can’t think why we never tried it before now living so near. The quality was second to none. Soooo warm and cosy. The ambiance and atmosphere superb. Just returned from this restaurant which we've visited half a dozen times over the last 20 years. The food today, the ambience, the service were all excellent. It was the best Italian meal I've had considering I used to travel worldwide including contracts in Italy. Unequivocal recommendation.

Not been here for a few years and having visited there this evening I now realise I have been missing out on such a fabulous experience. I had the seafood spaghetti which was so tasty and packed with variety of seafood including mussels, prawns, white fish, scallops and squid. Friends whom I was with enjoyed a tasty risotto. The restaurant was quite busy for an early Thursday evening which was really good to see. This place is really quite special and I'll certainly return very soon.

Fantastic family meal in honour of my late mother and father in laws. Vivo's was their favourite restaurant and this meal did not disappoint. The staff were really accommodating, friendly and helpful. The food was delicious! Definitely worth a visit.

Wonderful meal served by wonderful staff. Not been since December 2019 (Covid ugh) We will be back again soon.

The best restaurant in Doncaster. First class food, Giorgio is an amazing chef and all the food is first class. Lovely friendly atmosphere. If you like a drop of red wine the Barolo is wonderful; but if you're feeling a little flush the Amerone is to die for - still at a good price. Excellent food great service. Booked to go again at the end of the month. Had breaded mussels which were big and very tasty, chicken Romano fantastic sauce and Tirimisu. Great night, authentic and rustic venue loved it.

I’ve been several times to Vivo’s and each time I say never again. Was persuaded to go again and it hasn’t improved. The food is extremely salty. The pizza is an almost biscuit base. Like a cheap Asda pizza. Garlic bread was so hard and thin that you could have broken a window with it. Best avoided.

We visited Vivos between Christmas and New Year. It had been a while since our last visit and it did not disappoint. Beautiful food, lovely atmosphere, fantastic staff. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you xxx

Visited last night with my partner. From phoning to book up until leaving, the staff were super friendly and attentive (but not overbearing!), food was lovely and the restaurant had a great atmosphere and decor. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back again!

A fabulous location, food was delicious, staff were friendly with lots of banter (esp Cesc Fabregas lookalike). Ive live in Doncaster all my life, as if I've never been there before 🙄 Will definitely go back as soon as we can.

Exceptional place. It’s got me thinking of excuses to come back to Doncaster ASAP. All three courses were perfect, but we each had the arranchini special to start, which was the best I’ve ever had. Beautiful food, nice attention to detail even in small areas (veg prep, depth of flavour in sauces). Great staff too, warm and welcoming and clearly passionate about what they do. Homemade deserts too. We can’t wait to come back, great food in a nice laid back authentic setting.

We randomly booked a table here when needing to stop overnight in Doncaster to break a long journey. We were delighted to end up having one of the best Italian meals we've ever had in England. As frequent visitors to Italy, we can truly say that this charming, family restaurant serves genuine Italian specialities cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and efficient, and we really had a delightful evening.

Having had the worst Thai meal of my life across the road from Vivo the previous evening, I was apprehensive when a friend suggested this. To avoid disappointment I thought I’d order two dishes that no one, far less an Italian, could screw up. Caprese. I expected the best mozzarella, fresh basil, the best olive oil. The cheese - not even a close relation to mozzarella - was cut from a square block, or possibly even a tyre. The dressing was impossible to identify. But that was gourmet compared to what followed.....A defrosted pizza base with hardly any sauce at all. On top of that, a mountain of rocket leaves (no, I’m not joking) with a few pieces of cheap ham. Grated (!) synthetic cheese on top. If it wasn’t for my friend, who knew them, they’d have got what they deserved, but I didn’t want to embarrass him. Very low standards, no ability, no pride.The worst. Ever

Everyone is nervous, myself included. However as usual this restaurant and the staff deliver everytime. Masks on staff, social distancing and safety. Lots of sanitiser and still keeping the mood and ambience of the evening. Then theres the food. Spectacular as always. Will never not go here. Lovely little Italian, authentic menu with a lot of choice. King prawn starter and the beef main were absolutely beautiful. Steak was cooked to perfection! Staff very attentive. Will definitely be back in the near future!

This was our first meal after 'Lockdown' we felt very safe! We had a beautiful meal. The staff were very friendly. This was the only restaurant we would go to after Lockdown that we knew we would be in a safe environment. I had Lombata Diana steak which was so nice, my husband had the calzone. Lovely family restaurant. We wont leave it so long next time xx

Amazing food in a safe and well managed environment- they have just reopened A fewer tables than usual for obvious reasons but excellent food , really friendly staff and good wine. I would particularly recommend the sea bass. See you soon!

My family and friends have bee visiting Vivo for a couple of years. The restaurant is in a nice position just out of the the town centre, with outside parking. The seating is about 50 and has a nice rustic feel. The owner, Giorgio, is also the chef and the manager, Silvano, runs the front of house. The welcome is always warm and friendly the staff cant do enough to help, there is a good size menus with all tastes catered for, they also have a great specials menu, as well as the meat, fresh fish and chicken dishes there’s a wide choice of pasta and pizza’s, for me the pizzas are great, nice and thin. Good selection of wines and spirits, what more can you want.Keep up the good work guys, see you soon.

I cannot fault the food, it delivered on all counts. However, the service unfortunately was appalling, I found a certain waitress very confrontational and rude, in all honesty I was flabagasted by her lack of manners and have never experienced anything like this before in a restaurant.It's a real shame as I can't fault the food, it was exceptional but the service from certain members of the team should be monitored going forward.

Been a while since we visited Vivos but we were not disappointed, the steaks were brilliant cooked to perfection, could not fault it.

Arrived with a group of friends to a nice friendly welcome. Great service and friendly waitress. Everyone enjoyed the starters but thought a tad expensive for what you got ie four prawns for £10. Seafood salad was fab. Main courses of fillet steak, monk fish and tagliatelle all very nice. Start to finish we had a really nice time and enjoyed the food. We will be back.

I’m sorry, but some of the reviews on here are either written by the the friends of this restaurant or just have no idea, I used to eat here regularly and it was great, rustic but good, well tonight was very poor. I started with pate as they had run out of the oysters, very bland, put in a small pot, with a few bits of salad thrown on the side, my partner had a Very average soup My main was the special of Liver, ok but over cooked and a quite bland sauce, not seasoned enough, my partner had Dover sole, which was covered in a sauce that meant you couldn’t taste the fish, which was again over cookedWe decided to skip dessert and instead opted for Irish coffee, came with no sugar and a ‘big dollop’ of canned cream on it, not acceptable In addition we had to endure, 4 renditions of happy birthday through the loud speakers, which made us feel like we were in TGI Fridays or similar, this used to be fantastic, but is now very poor, prices up, quality down Staff were good, but were obviously embarrassed by the quality Be along time till I return, if evet

Just visiting Doncaster for a couple of days and staying at the racecourse Hilton. We decided to go for a walk and stumbled across this place. There was just room for two and we were made very welcome. Restaurant had around 45 people in it as it was a Saturday night.We had a single bruschetta starter and a main course each. Every dish was absolutely top-notch and well worth the asking price, we helped it down with a couple of half pints of the draft Italian lager. £35 including the tip I think this is exceptional value. The only very very minor criticism I would say was that I would like the portion of lasagna to have been larger and would really pay more for that privilege. Highly recommended.

We have passed this place many times and so decided to try it, so glad we did. The place was nice and comfortable and the staff made us welcome. The food was good, bot my friend and I had steak and we both said it was the best we had had for many a month, lovely. And the prices were very reasonable for the quality. We had a long chat with Georgio, the owner and chef, over some very nice coffee, then rounded off the evening with some Limoncello which he had made. What a great evening. we will be back.

Date night. Great home cooked food, lovely staff and great atmosphere. Felt like a trattoria in Sicily. Will definitely return ourselves and with friends.

Had calzone, really enjoyed it, service was prompt and the welcome warm, partner had the meatballs, asked to have linguine rather than spaghetti, was no problem at all and she really enjoyed it too. The atmosphere was vibrant even for a Wednesday night mid month, booking is advisable. Prices were reasonable, parking on the street outside, probably could have probably used one extra pair of hands on the floor, but overall was great experience.

About 25 of us went to Vivo for a meal and I thought the staff were very helpful and accommodating considering there was so many of us. They were polite at all times, and nothing was too much trouble.

Three ladies on a Thursday night. We arrived early which was no problem. Great staff, who were attentive, but not on top of you. We shared a starter, and had main courses each. The food was freshly prepared, and the prawns were delicious. We were not rushed at all. We paid the bill, but then stayed at the table chatting for at least 30 minutes and no one pushed us out. I’ve never eaten here before, but my mum had, and had recommended it. I now know why. Would definitely go again. Thank you for a great meal.

Decor in the restaurant is amazing.

How this place is not the number 1 restaurant in Doncaster I have no idea! I had the mussels to start (if I had to choose one meal to eat every day until the day I die, it would be the mussels from vivo), followed by the ribeye from the specials board (cooked to absolute perfection) with the dolcelatte sauce....AMAZING!!! Other half had the pate (commented on how beautifully it was presented), followed by the chicken importore (we share a little bit with the other, and I can personally comment on how delicious this was!).

Posto fantastico e molto accogliente. Complimenti a tutto lo staff, dal proprietario Giorgio a Silvano e Clelia. Ogni piatto è cucinato alla perfezione con veri sapori italiani. Consigliato!

Great staff, so friendly and welcoming. A gem on the edge of town. Intimate setting. Food is first class, Steaks are always tender and cooked exactly as requested. No hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

We had a nice meal at Vivo with some friends. The staff were friendly and I really liked the decor and atmosphere. My lasagne was good, although not the best I have ever had. It was a nice menu, I would definitely return to try some of the other dishes.

The Wife and I went here for our anniversary we had read several comments about the food and atmosphere. We where not disappointed from the moment we walked in we where made to feel at home it’s was quite busy but the staff made time for you got the drinks straight away and all the specials where explained then left to make our minds up no pressure from staff to order . When we did order the meals the starters came after about five minutes and was really tasty which set the tone for the evening when the main courses came my wife and I where delighted with the quality it was exceptional the flavours where fantastic. We have been to Italy several times on holiday but never had food that has tasted so good.Really what more can I say this was the first visit but most definitely will not be the last. Truly a fantastic night out.

It’s difficult this one. Venue is lovely and was perfectly close to my hotel. Manager welcoming and order taken quickly. However here’s the thing. I would have had wine once I finished my water and nobody asked - which is a shame. I sat the entire visit without a drink after this. In truth there was very little from front of house to compliment the experience at all. The food was STUNNING. A perfectly put together calzone, which on cutting into it I was taking photos and sending to pals. Again though nobody asked how it was and nobody asked if I wanted anything else.

Three of us went for a meal for my birthday. The staff were very attentive and the food delicious two of us had the deep fried mozzarella which was cooked perfectly, I then had the best cannelloni's I have had in a long time. Due to one of my companions mentioning it was my birthday my cheesecake arrived with a candle in it accompanied by the waiting staff singing to me. Overall a lovely meal with a great atmosphere. I highly recommend you give this restaurant a try.

Knew it was popular as had to book two weeks ago to get a 7.30 Saturday nigh booking, and can see why. We were a party of 4 and all had starters and mains which I must say, were excellent, all 4 of us mentioned how nice the food was. All were hot, served well and tasted superb.

I visited Vivo for an evening meal with family and friends. The menu was varied and how the waitress could remember the number of specials available was quite amazing.

My husband and I went to Vivo’s for the first time on Friday evening - after a long time of trying to get a table and it being booked up constantly. - we now understand why!

Went last weekend with friends, it was packed and very noisy. However the food we had was lovely and the staff were attentive.

Decided to give Vivo a go as had been highly recommended by friends and reviews on trip advisor seemed positive. Ordered the specials mussels starter as was advised by the waitress that the mussels off the main menu were frozen! The fresh mussels were lovely, however my husband ordered the prawns which came in a lovely sauce, however the prawns were obviously frozen as small and chewy.

The food was authentic and delicious and the service and attention to detail was superb. We really enjoyed the visit and would definitely go back again

A wonderful laid back friendly restaurant on Bennithorpe just minutes from Doncaster town centre,the staff are friendly helpful but not in your face,the menu is varied with plenty of choice and Very reasonably priced,the laid back atmosphere makes for a very enjoyable experience.

Given the mediocre reviews of the restaurant in my hotel I decided to walk across the road to Vivo. Rather than my usual pasta or pizza I tried the pork loin with prunes. This was lovely and came with really nice mixed vegetables. I had ordered some fries but that wasn’t needed. Lovely service. Going back to the hotel

Visited here last night for a family meal.

A cheery welcome, excellent service, and delicious food as always. What more could you ask ? A limoncello cream shot on the way out too . Perfect.

Over priced and underflavoured about sums up my visit to vivos. My risotto was basically undercooked long grain rice in a flavourless tomato soup. The ingredients were obviously the cheapest on the market and we were rushed off of our table at the end of the meal. The only thing emptier than my belly at the end of the meal was my wallet. I will not be visiting this establishment again .

The food was ok, I had the spare rib starters, they were delicious followed by gnocchi which when you take the portion size into account was expensive. My partner had steak medium rare which was cooked perfectly and tasted great but was unfortunately very tough.

If I could give 20 stars I would. Amazing food, service and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend! Thank you much!

Visited today for an after wedding dinner for about 30 guests. Could not fault either the service or the food. Very enjoyable evening.

Visited on a Monday night, quirky Italian restaurant, warm welcome from all the staff, the decor is very unique and although a bit dated it works

Went here with some friend, service initially slightly slow but it was very busy even on this a weeknight. Starters were delicious pâté, garlic pizza bread and mozzarella all excellent. But the steak was just out of this world, so succulent and tender. I shall definitely be returning here!

Wonderful restaurant and lovely staff! I was delighted with the meal and felt as though I had been swept away to Italy for the night. The menu selection is wonderful and when the food arrived there was not a doubt in my mind that the ingredients were fresh (maybe the vegetables were picked that morning?) and everything was freshly prepared. Would highly recommend this restaurant - reasonably priced and just an all around pleasant place to enjoy a nice glass of wine and a meal. If you manage to save room for desert, I would recommend the panna cotta however, all the desserts looked a treat. Hats off to everyone at Vivo for such a lovely night! We will be back again.

Booked a table for 8 people so have to go quite early at 6.30 & we were advised in advance would only have table for 2 hours. My husband & son had a prawn starter & Mussels which they found poor value & a little bland. Same with the garlic bread, not seasoned enough. No part of the meal was awful was just ok though. The staff are extremely friendly, polite & helpful.

We had a lovely evening celebrating an elderley lady’s birthday. The food was delicious, gorgeous steaks. What impressed me most is that the waiters noticed I had a bad cough and bought me lovely hot lemon toddy. Made a special birthday fuss of our friend and created a special warm hearted event! We chose Vivo as 5 of us were staying at the nearby Earl of Doncaster Hotel.. We were given a very warm welcome by the proprietor. We all liked the bistro-style decor. Although the restaurant was very busy (Saturday evening) we received very attentive service from our waitress. There was a wide choice of dishes. The dishes that we particularly enjoyed were the steaks which were delicious and perfectly cooked. We all agreed that the restaurant provided excellent value for money. If we are back in Doncaster we will certainly return to Vivo.
