Aug 2024 • friends Today we went to this Bangladeshi restaurant we were there for lunch we asked for karai paneer as one of us was vegetarian and for bhuna ...where I was not asked whether I would like lamb or chicken bhuna. They just got me chicken bhuna.while placing the order I categorical asked whether the preparation is Bangladeshi style and whether the chef was from Bangladesh.I was answered back by the steward in the affirmative. When the food came both the vegetarian and the non vegetarian had the same gravy. It ws the typical sweet tomato puree based gravy for both the dishes. It was appalling. No Indian Babgldehi or Pakistani person can have this kind of preparation.it might be very good for the locals of edinburgh but the cooking preparation and the taste is no where from the Indian subcontinent. they did not offer any papad or pickle .All was chargeable. Anybody from the Indian subcontinent missing your home food this certainly not a place to go.They sell and serve expensive food which taste worse than the frozen packed curries sold in any store. This resturant should be reported to the Government authorities for misleading innocent travelers who miss home food.

This kind of Indian food may fool the average curry eater, but today’s more discerning diners ( who may also be cooks) can spot a shortcut when it is presented. This restaurant relies on a base sauce for its dishes, a basic bland dal sauce. My curry was not as expected. We have come every year to this restaurant and I am sad to say this is our last visit.

We were tired from jet lag and went to the restaurant because of proximity to our hotel. The food was fine but the service was really disappointing. The server was pushing for us to order more food than we wanted. We had to explain why we were not as hungry as he seemingly expected us to be. It was a strange experience and rather demeaning. 1 star is even to generous. Worst Indian meal we have ever had. Ping meal microwave. I am just writing about our experience in this restaurant. Two weeks ago it was fine but on Friday the 5th July at 5pm myself and my wife went in for our tea before going to see Madness. We ordered and had our tea. It wasn't until end £71 he kept saying oh your card is not working so my wife had to use her's hers didn't work once but then did. Well we both went to a grocer next door and bought something there's absolutely nothing wrong with our cards it's there machine. We went back after seeing Madness and waved for one of the men to come out. He came out and added what we had outside on his phone and said sorry there's a new person and walked back inside to get copy of our receipt. That's when he changed and said what we payed is right as they put the prices up for the festival. Also we were not told about this nor 10% tip that's automatically on your bill. I think it's dirty cheating practice and misleading the public as people think they are paying the price on the menu not a INFATED PRICES in which you haven't disclosed anywhere. We will never ever go back to this restaurant and I urge people to boycott it. As like us you will get caught out with a PRICE HIKE the price the restraunt person got on there phone adding up was £55 but we paid £72 a £15 hike without knowingj Can I just say that it's the 6th of July the Edinburgh festival hasn't even started yet it starts in August but this Restaurant has already hiked there prices up . Overpriced substandard food. Also arrived very fast to table so probably done in microwave. I seriously don't know why people are giving this place 5 stars . It just amazes me you see a 1 star then you will see lots of 5 stars has to be staff in members.

I highly recommend their chicken balti dish, the spice level and depth of it was just perfect! My Peruvian friend was visiting Scotland, and we mentioned this to the staff, who put in extra effort and spoke to my friend about their menu, their personal recommendations etc. She said it’s the best Indian food she’s ever had! At first we were happy with an AdWords on the window from 2018 because the restaurant around the corner and Indians in England were always great as we actually thought or saw them. The reviews were actually good to excellent... but there weren't any good ones either. When we went there later there were no other guests in the guest room, we wanted to turn around first but thought hee, it'll be okay. Well, unfortunately that wasn't quite, yes, nice service, everything was okay.. when the food came, unfortunately it wasn't seasoned enough, there was no salt, so the soul and tasted flat... Raja, which I always like. What I ordered was just yoghurt with a few cucumbers on top, a simple sauce the kitchen couldn't even do that... a second way there is out of the question for me.

Please do not go here if you're a fan of indian cuisine. I made this mistake, selected based on the reviews and it was an instant regret. I ordered a butter chicken, thinking I can't go wrong with it, but I was mistaken. I could tell it was off just by looking at it, but I tried it anyway since I was hungry. It tasted like some poorly seasoned chicken in vanilla pudding xd now that I think of it, it's quite funny, but I suffered the consequences definitely. It's not good, not even alright or almost acceptable. It was also expensive, which wouldn't be a problem in case of great food, but nah. I do not recommend at all, huge disappointment.

My recent visit to Vinyasa left much to be desired. Despite ordering the set menu, we were disappointed when they brought us chocolate ice cream without even asking, as the kulfi had run out. Adding to the frustration, the service lacked friendliness, and witnessing a chef wearing his apron while taking a restroom break was concerning, especially given my background as a chef. The Garlic Naan, which should have been savory, had an unexpected sweetness due to the addition of coconut, which was off-putting. Similarly, the Korma dish was overloaded with coconut, overpowering the other flavors. Overall, Vinyasa failed to meet expectations, and I won't be returning anytime soon. Unless there are significant improvements in both service quality and food preparation, I'd recommend looking elsewhere for a satisfying Indian dining experience.

However this is definitely one of the best Bangladeshi/Indian restaurants in the whole of Edinburgh. You must visit!! This was a returning visit for us, slightly odd experience (not quite as odd as the last time we were there when the entire Scottish Labour Party front bench were there too, but that's another story and not really a reflection on the restaurant’s service). The food was as good as ever, but the service was pretty off. There seemed to be an army of young waiters but none of them seem to have had any training in how to deal with customers. Pretty rude and offhand. Worse, we felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant, which given how little the waiters were doing to make this a nice experience, we decided to slow up and not let ourselves be rushed out. OK this is the height of the Edinburgh Festival, so we assumed that the rushing was because they had some kind of large booking coming. So, we watched with amusement as we sat there and the restaurant got more and more empty and no one else seemed to be arriving. Maybe everyone else had heard about the service too. Not sure I'll be back.

Four friends and I went for a graduation meal at Vinyasa and we really enjoyed our experience. The king prawn madras was very well made and so flavourful. The staff were attentive and friendly. We will be back

Together with 3 friends we ate a meal this restaurant following the good reviews. Unfortunately, they must have had a bad day as both the grumpy service and tasteless curries really stood out and sadly not in a way they would have wanted them to....

We booked in advance because of reviews - and we admit the food was delicious. All very tasty indeed. Do not be put off by outside of restaurant (we nearly were) - it’s worth going in and experiencing. A slower paced more laid back place...

The atmosphere was a level up from many Indian restaurants which can be quite plain. You felt like you were dining rather than just "eating dinner". With a large menu, it was easy to find something to enjoy. The food was excellent and the service...

On a side street off the Royal Mile, Vinyasa is a nice alternative to the pubs and pocket sized posh restaurants that attract tourist traffic in Old Town. Half a dozen locals were dining when we arrived, fresh off the train from London. Warm, friendly...

Food is good. Appreciate if the person who takes order smiles. May be replace him with a girl. Also feel that treating Indians (not good) and others (very well treated) are also different.

The food here is amazing and authentic and the service is outstanding. The waiters are very friendly and I’d like to commend this particular waiter, named Prashant, for great service. The food has been brilliant every time and especially the 3 course menu which is great value for money. This place is a must try!

The curries we had were very spicy and tasty (saag alo) and the service is friendly and fast. The naan bread was very fresh and well baked. You can bring your own bottle of wine or beer, since they don’t sell alcohol. You can decide on your own service tip (instead of a standard 10% added to the bill). Free tap water is served. Great place to eat!

Ok place. Food is ok. Service is nice. Its a small place - so if you are a biggish group, may appear cramped.
