Don't know what is going on with this place. Used to be phenomenal. Today. Empty tables not cleaned, sugar and or grease obvious. The tea pot was badly cracked, right across and the spout dirty and broken. Meantime the staff were having a chin wag up at the tills. Will not be a draw to the business.

I used to love coming here of a weekend for breakfast and then a good “mooch” but it seems the tearoom has been taken over and they don’t do breakfast anymore. The menu is just pasties and cakes. I opted for a chicken & mushroom pasty but when it was served it had clearly been put into the microwave to heat it up and rather than a light, flaky slice it was just a stodgy, unappetising lump of stodgy pastry. Totally inedible. I returned it and the waitress did refund my money with no argument but oh so disappointing how unappealing the menu/food is in such a nice venue. Another couple were in at the same time and they also declined food. No issue with the cafe not doing breakfasts but the food provided does need to be edible.

I actually wanted to review the shop that this tearooms is in, Vintage Retreat but we did have a drink whilst there and it was very pleasant. We stumbled upon Vintage Retreat by accident and from outside it didn't look like much and we thought we would be in and out in 10 mins. We'll we were wrong, it is massive inside and all items displayed very well, as you walk around you can see thst the items on sale have been kind of grouped together and all displayed very nicely. It was like an aladins cave every time you turned there was more and then we realised there were a downstairs also. Definitely worth a visit and walk around, you might just find a bargain.

We prebooked an afternoon tea for a 90th birthday treat. The staff had laid a beautiful table for us. We were given 2 cake stands between 4 of us which were absolutely overflowing with goodies. The sandwiches were full of fillings, followed by scones with jam and cream. Then came the cakes! My goodness, they were delicious. They were all made by the owner apparently but were also complimented with additional fruits (strawberries, blueberries and grapes) and macarons. Fantastic value. They even brought out a little cake with a candle for the birthday girl. We were absolutely stuffed and even took some of the cakes home. We'd definitely go back again if we're in the area.

Seven of us plus a very excited 2 year old have just had the best afternoon tea ever in the retreat tearoom. Amazing plentiful variety of fresh, tasty sandwiches and cakes, ,fabulous staff, excellent value for money, and pretty vintage crockery. We used to come here often and the food was fabulous and different from the usual tea room fare, however when the cafe moved to its present location it went down hill and the food and service was really bad, Covid was blamed for the very limited menu and when I ordered tomatoes on toast I was asked if I wanted the tomatoes putting in the microwave to soften them up a bit🤔. Decided to give it another try and am delighted to say it’s back on track. The service was swift and friendly and the panini very nice with salad and coleslaw garnish. It still doesn’t feel cosy because the room is large and quite chilly but definitely worth a visit.

First time visit today with the partner. We came to look at the furniture and accompanying store but decided to stop for something to eat. Decor is nice with comfortable seating however lacks an atmosphere. Variety of cakes on offer. We ordered a jacket potato with tuna and cheese which was a large portion and tasted good, and then waffles, bacon and maple syrup which was really good. Generous portion again. Definitely would eat here again.

After having asked what vegetables were in the "handmade" vegetable soup (potato, carrot, peas, swede and beans) we ordered two from the lovely person behind the counter. When our order came only one soup arrived along with the cheeseburger and fries my son had ordered. I immediately regretted ordering the soup as it was a smooth, slimy orange coloured soup with some tiny annihilated vegetables and bits of pasta in it - think Classic Vegetable Soup from Heinz. Apparently it was too late to cancel the other soup - I expect the tin had already been opened and the contents were being microwaved as I spoke. I ordered a side of fries anyway, having seen the fries that my son had, which were actually nice (as was his cheeseburger). My revolting soup arrived and I tried my best to eat it. Yeuch! Absolutely vile. Then we waited for the fries. And waited. And waited. And waited. And in the end my friend went and asked about them and the person in the kitchen had 'forgotten' them. My son went to order some waffles with bacon and maple syrup and the two items came together - except, the kitchen person had 'forgotten' to put the bacon on. I refuse to call the kitchen person a chef, or even a cook, and she didn't properly apologise for the appalling service either. Instead she merely giggled and said she hadn't done very well had she. No she hadn't. But the biggest fault was whoever's decision it was to sell tins of Heinz Classic Vegetable Soup for £6.99!!!!!!!!! We were robbed.

I visited the cafe last week with my daughter who is in teh catering trade. Both of us had an amazing expereince. Not only is the cafe spacious and decorated to fit in with the whole business in 20s/art deco feel the attention to quality detailing is impressive. The cutlery, glasses etc were all good quality and immaculate. The service was prompt and courteous. The coffee was extremely high quality. The food was delicious we opted for the breakfast omelette and vegie omelette. Portions were a good size and salad was fresh. We ordered a single portion of cajun fries side which fed both of us and were very good. I would say the price was what i expected - not expensive, not cheap and for the experience I was very happy. Our meal with 2 hot drinks and a side was £18 in total for 2 of us. I do normally bother to write reviews but seeing that people have left poor reviews recently I was driven to leave one. Going back today for a second visit!

The place has completely gone down hill and expensive for what it is. The prices are the same as Beckworth Emporium but really boring and tiny portion sizes for the cost. I love Beckworth and dont mind paying for it as you know that you are going to get a great meal thats exciting and a decent portion. The menu was totally meat driven, roast Turkey, roast beef, 3 meat roast and meat pies. The vegan and vegetarian menue was limited to nut roast -(1980's! They where just missing a stuffed pepper!) And Soup-(which came with sliced bread). The Saziki that should have come with garlic mushrooms was actually garlic mayonnaise, i ordered it as it looked like the most exciting thing on the menu! But No! Dont do it! Not a salad in sight, the menu was so limited, nothing for children other than half a roast dinner! We will never come again unless the menu changes back to something more interesting and modern! A complete let down! Please consider changing things! You have lost a massive customer base! You used to be great, what happened???

I have recommended The Vintage Retreat to everyone I know for as long as I have been a customer here, and used to take all of my out-of-town friends for a look around, but I recently took a date here to what I remembered as a beautiful cosy tea room with many homemade cakes and tea varieties from popular to unusual and different. I was shocked to find it appears to have changed hands and its lovely comfortable sofas and friendly atmosphere has been replaced by a cheerless room with straight backed chairs, three cake options and none of the individuality that drew me here in the first place. The kind of place to take your conservative and disapproving mother in law, perhaps- but not friends or a date. The store itself is as interesting as ever but I will not be back to the tea room, which had been a huge part of the appeal, and will no longer be recommending it for an afternoon out. Bitterly disappointed.

The reason being more tables had come in and if the three staff, one was making food, one was serving and one washing up. Three more tables became occupied and the washer kept washing and the poor lad serving started getting complaints. Not his fault, someone should have helped him. Felt very sorry for him. Having eaten here on a number of occasions, today, Sunday we were disappointed. We've had brunch here before and opted once again for their bacon sandwich. Unlike on our previous visits, the bacon was very thin, almost wafer thin, the brown sauce pale and no taste, whereas previously it had been the good old HP. Very disappointed on this occasion. Previous visits had thoroughly enjoyed. Price had gone up as well. Please go back to your usual bacon and HP. Unsure if we'll eat here again!

Not busy clean 50/60s décor quite nice really but the coffee, 2 lattes were at best luke warm and the scones were well past there sell by date, maybe this where the 'vintage' in the establishments name comes from. It was all presented on a pretty cake stand with mismatched teapot , cups and saucers. It was a good selection of sandwiches and the lemon and poppy seed cake was delicious as were the scones and jam. The café is set in a vintage outlet with dozens of small shops selling everything from door knobs to 1960s clothing all at very reasonable prices. Ended up being in there for about 3 hours. Well worth a visit. The only downside is the parking, I ended going round the block several time before I found a space as it's double yellow lines all round the area.

A great place for a snack. Takes a while to get served and then get your drinks / food but if you are not in a rush it's a worth a visit if looking for a small snack or some cake.

We went here on a Sunday morning hoping for a nice big breakfast but ended up having a toasted tea cake and tea. Its a nice place and great to look around the vintage shops and antiques then have a cup of tea and cake, they also do lunches, jacket potatoes etc but we didn't partake. Staff were friendly and everything good just think they must be missing a trick not doing breakfast.

Pleasant surroundings. The staff were very friendly. The menu has lots of snacks from sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads, ploughman's, and things on toast. There is also an all day specials board with bacon and eggs meal and also a dish of the day. The food is very reasonably priced and very tasty.

I was delighted to find this place and was such a positive start. Lovely surroundings, nice food. Sat with friend chatting after we'd eaten and long finished our food and drink and decided to have a another coffee and as no one had even been to our table to check if we were happy with everything or needed anything else or to clear our plates , despite it not being busy , I took my plates with me when I ordered more drinks. The lady came to the counter and actually told me off , we don't put dirty plates on the counter because of the cakes . The cakes are covered by glass so not sure what the argument there is but funny enough I don't like dirty plates left at least 15 mins at the table . She then after said it was a sweet thing to do but sorry too late . Customer service is my biggest thing and sadly so many establishment fail on this and in the big scheme of things it may appear trivial but actually it's one of the most important factors . Tables should be cleared quickly when food is finished or have somewhere your customers can put them .

We had a bacon and sausage roll each. Great quality baps stuffed full of good quality and beautifully cooked bacon and sausage. Very good value and Sooooo tastey. The best we've had anywhere. Well worth the visit to the vintage retreat just for that. Don't change a thing.

Never get bored of visiting here because the stock sold by the vendors changes there is always something new to look at. A couple of vendors selling newer unusual things as well. Always finish any visit with a stop off at the tea shop where your order comes served in beautiful vintage cups and saucers. Lovely selection of tempting cakes as well!

The Tea Room is set within a maze of mini pop up stalls selling new,old and reclaimed furniture and nik naks which makes for pleasant surroundings with free parking outside. On our visit the service was a little slow as the girl behind the counter was worked off her feet taking orders, making drinks and then bringing them to the customers tables but in credit too her she remained cool, calm and collective and apologised for the wait. The short delay was well worth it though as my partner and I both had the Afternoon Tea comprising of a tea or coffee, a scone with the trimmings and a freshly made sandwich which was delicious and at £7 an absolute bargain. With such a good variety of food on the menu along with home made cakes and good coffee it gives us a good excuse to return again in the future.

Visited Vintage Retreat after having heard of it through a friend, it is a tea room but its main purpose in life is a Vintage and antiques centre, there is some of the dreaded shabby chic painted furniture (so last year) but in general there is a very interesting mix of vintage items. Personally I think it could do with having more antique items as there is a distinct lack of descent antique furniture at the right price. All in all a very pleasant visit a great space with good food.

I had home made pumpkin soup at the Vintage Retreat yesterday. It was beautifully presented, the soup was hot, the bread roll was so fresh and soft, the croutons divine. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Have been there a few times now and it just gets better and better.

Vintage Retreat is outside of Northampton centre but very close to the railway station. The shop itself is a stunning collection of different traders vintage and craft items from small things like buttons and jewellery through to clothes, recycled leather bags, records furniture and other items (a fruit machine and a bumper car amongst things I have seen there). Brilliant for hours of browsing. The cafe serves a simple and limited menu but everything is beautifully prepared and well presented. The food is tasty, I have enjoyed paninis on my visits, and there are always some lovely cakes on offer. Staff are friendly and helpful. I would thoroughly recommend a trip to Vintage Retreat and its cafe, it is well worth the journey.

Stopped by for late lunch at 3pm Sunday (today), in part due to positive reviews. We were not greeted on entry, so we seated ourselves next to another occupied table. Surveyed the menu, decided what to order, and then placed menus down and waited. And waited. Several servers went by, and we were also in view of the bartender. No one said anything to us or even acknowledges us. After waiting about 20 minutes for someone to came over to offer service, we decided to leave.

We go mainly for our Son. Wacky warehouse has been a godsend to us whilst he’s a toddler and looking to burn off some energy. Victoria is always working in wacky warehouse when we are there and she is so attentive, always there to serve but also always interacts with the children and has even helped me when i’ve been on my own and my child has been having a meltdown about leaving. Couldn’t ask for better service, definitely enjoys her job and it shows!
