Really greasy chips, overcooked batter and fish not very fresh in my opinion. This is the second time I have used this shop in 6 months and it was no better the first time. I always give somewhere a second chance, but now regret it. Don’t bother folks, food horrible man behind counter probably the most miserable person in the village.

Where to start! The worse chippy ever. Ordered chips and sausage in batter waiting 20mins. horrendous service and the food was horrible. The chips were greasy and tasted nasty. The sausage and chips looked like they were cooked in really old fat. Got back to caravan and once I saw the food put it straight in the bin. Wouldn’t suggest eating anything from this chippy. Not fit for human consumption and that’s being nice.

The worst fish and chips we’ve had in years. The cod was absolutely dripping in oil and looked as if it had been fried multiple times. The chicken was fried in a tasteless and again very oily batter. The chips had an odd taste and were very greasy. The mushy peas were so watery they were more like a soup. Unfortunately most of it was put in the bin. Such a shame as we have used this shop many times when we’ve visited Kessingland, we won’t use it again.

Since it’s had a refurb and now looks tidy and clean thought as local would try. Had regular chips which portion size was tiny more like a child’s portion normally me and hubby would share as most chippys are very generous. The sausage is the typical white fatty chippy sausage nothing special. Won’t rush back!

Over the years we have stayed at Kessingland and as it is on the coast, it wouldn’t be right without a portion of fish and chips during our stays. There are 2 others chip shops very nearby (one on site and another a 2 minute drive away) the Village Fryer wins hands down. Food cooked to order and not over priced, yes you may need to wait but at least your food hasn’t been sitting in the oven drying out. Sorry to state the obvious but a fish and chip shop deep fries it’s chips and fish, if you want oven dried out ready fish and chips, this is not for you. Want a pie or chicken as an alternative? it’s on the menu as are children portion sizes meals. No complaints from us, just carry on what you do best.

Don’t normally criticise given the circumstances that we live in at present but this was a very poor chippy at best.Long wait for food but with COVID I am not surprised however -Food was poor and very fatty - sausages were burntAsked for all to be on the trays (chips, peas and gravy) - all served separate (hardly conserving the earth with more use of polystyrene and plastics)Gravy was very watered downPeas were also very watered downPeas and gravy were extremely small portions - barely covered 1/4 of the chipsChips were dry but fatty (contradictory but true) but ok for meAnd finally NO salt and vinegar on the chips, a chippy tradition - not even asked if we wanted salt and vinegar.Only food we had that day but next day we were both poorly with bad stomachs. Had to stay local all day.If you are looking for a chippy tea I would use another one in the area if you can.

The most disgusting fish and chips I have ever tasted in my life. The whole shop smelt like burnt fat when we walked in and should have rung alarm bells. We ordered fish and chips and a burger ( which was deep fat fried) the fish, well it’s debatable if it was even cod. The batter was overcooked, hard but oozing fat, the fish rather than being white and fluffy was yellow/brown, flat and soggy with fat. The fish didn’t even taste of fish, just fat and left a disgusting disgusting taste of fat in your mouth for ages. We had just been to a long day with the children and we’re all really hungry. I don’t know how this place keeps going, it must be the gullible tourists who know no better as I can’t believe the locals would go here.

Whilst staying at the Caravan Club site in Kessingland we eagerly awaited the on site visit which appeared to come and go within 30 minutes at 5pm. Never mind, the warden suggested we order from the Village Fryer who deliver to the site as well as domestic properties. I noted it cost 50p to deliver to houses and yet £1 to deliver to the site??We ordered two large haddock, a medium chips and a large mushy peas and large curry sauce for delivery at approx 8pm. The ordering was difficult and confusing with the guy who did not appear to know what he was doing nor could he tell us how much the cost would be. At 8:15pm we called the chippy to enquire where our order was as we were stood waiting at the site entrance to be told it just came out if the fryer cue a further 20 minute wait and still no idea as to price. Long story cut short, the food arrived eventually and the fish was really lovely. The chips, supposedly cooked in lard, were ok but most certainly not a medium portion and we received a small peas and curry not a large. But given the wait and hassle let things be. Moral of the story, collect it yourself!!

It is a standard fish and chip shop so nothing exceptional, but good value for money and one of the better places in Kessingland for fish and chips. The chips were good (better than others we have tried locally) and the fish not bad. Be careful - everything comes battered unless you specify otherwise (including the burger in the children's burger and chips meal) - so the unbattered burger we got was a bit dry and didn't come with a bun etc, but still edible and we had no complaints from our children.

6 of us dropped in for a drink after the cinema at 22.05 today . Totally deserted except for one customer at the bar. Waited over 5 minutes before the customer offered to find the bar staff. Empty glasses on bar and tables so obviously work to do but no staff. Young lady eventually appeared and promptly said we've finished serving. No apology. I am amazed bars can afford to turn away 6 customers let alone without an apology. Also strange on 2nd July to read Christmas menus displayed around the walls. No idea if these are very early for this year or left up from last year? I've worked in hospitality much of my life and the golden rule is 'never turn away a paying customer' Unfortunately a no stars review wasn't an option. Very disappointing.

Lovely food, lovely wine, charming friendly service, especially when our waitress said "really enjoyed serving you' Right, now a slight whinge - NOT aimed at the Crown alone but at ALL restaurants that add service to the bill, even discretionary. Why are they adding service on the VAT???? Happy to pay service on the net of VAT amount but NOT service on the Tax as well.
