Fantastically good food and service

Very enjoyable Italian meal in Liverpool.

The food and decor were authentic Italian, it was thoroughly enjoyable. The prices were reasonable, but the service was rushed, we were asked several times if we were ready to order by different servers (who were very nice), in a very short period of time. It really is worth a visit for the food, it is very good.

Had researched an Italian Restaurant whilst in Liverpool and this 'Reviewed' well. It didn't disappoint. Probably the best meat Cannelloni ever (wish that I'd had it as a Main, rather than a Starter). Followed by Ravioli in a lobster bisque sauce - also delicious. Good job that we booked as verry busy, for a Tuesday evening.

Villa Romano offers some truly great Italian food in a charming, atmospheric setting right in the heart of Liverpool. The menu is full of classic dishes done right — from rich pastas to perfectly crisp pizzas — all made with quality ingredients and plenty of flavor. The surroundings are warm and inviting, making it a lovely spot for a relaxed meal or a special night out. However, the service unfortunately detracts from the overall experience. While everything ran smoothly enough, the staff came across as unfriendly and a bit surly, which really stood out given the otherwise pleasant atmosphere. A bit more warmth and attentiveness would go a long way in matching the quality of the food and setting. If they can bring the service up to the same standard as the food, Villa Romano would be a top-tier Italian spot in the city. As it stands, still worth a visit for the cuisine — just don’t expect a particularly warm welcome.

I was in Liverpool for my birthday this weekend and went to Villa Romana for my birthday dinner. I'm well travelled and genuinely, I've never had Italian food this nice ever! The entire experience of dining here was an absolute joy. The interior is warm and inviting with a busy open kitchen and attentive wait staff who couldn't do enough. I ordered tomato soup, simple and beautifully seasoned, then Spaghetti Carbonara which was so tasty. My Dad ordered the Lasagne and it was so big, he couldn't eat the side we had ordered of Salt and rosemary potatoes! The desserts trolley is such a lovely touch which adds to the whole experience. Let's face it, it's hard to say no to dessert when you can see what you'd be missing! Thank you Villa Romana for making my birthday one to remember!

We are a regular visitor to Villa Romano and always enjoyed our lunches. Was never fond of italian food as im a fussy eater but have always found something nice to eat. Plenty to choose from. Staff are pleasant and friendly and will always oblige with the usual photo with your mates.

Food was good and reasonably priced, perhaps a little more detail on the menu of what's in the dishes would be nice. Atmosphere was good but the music was quite loud (some customers were too but it was a Saturday so kind of expected that). Service was good though weirdly overly present to the point like it felt like we were being rushed. Sat down, given menus and within about five minutes four different staff members had asked if we were ready to order food. Also asked several times while food was still on our plates if we were finished. Otherwise very friendly and helpful staff if a tad over attentive.

We booked in advance, but they wouldn’t seat us because we didn’t reply to an email that had no instruction telling us to reply. No apology, just told us that we “should know to reply”. So, they think we are mind readers, incompetent staff at its finest.

We were a group of 12 and they looked after us very well.

Came here for my birthday. Staff are beyond lovely, atmosphere in restaurant is really nice. it’s a cute hidden gem in the centre of Liverpool and then when you enter the restaurant you’re in your own quiet haven. Food is amazing, can’t wait to come back! Also prices are decent!!

Very nice place but it's not authentic Italian. Food was edible... But felt it was a dish I could do at home for less money. Waiters were very nice. Not very knowledgeable about the drinks/food combination, but fast. Unfortunately, the tiramisu I asked for wasn't fresh, I could smell the fridge odour in the over whipped cream, we couldn't eat it. A pity, because it's a really nice place...

My fiancé and I came here on Saturday evening at 7pm for my birthday dinner and had the best time. Tables are spacious and the restaurant was full but didn’t feel crowded at all. All the food was delicious, especially the meatballs & bread. We were too full for the dessert trolley but it looked amazing. The service was exceptional too, we didn’t wait for anything for long.

We had a fabulous meal here tonight. The place was really noisy, but the food made it worth it. Both my husband and I started with the Caprese salad. Superb. I had the starter portion of spaghetti and meatballs for my entree and my husband ordered the cannelloni. Great choices. My meatballs were a mix of beef and pork and the sauce was just right. The cannelloni was rich, cheesy, and delicious. Of course we had room for dessert. The Manchester tart served with cream was yummy, as was the strawberry tart. We might go back tomorrow night just to try more of the desserts! Their wine list has a good selection of Italian wines. I'd go back here in a heartbeat.

Went on Saturday evening, service, food and atmosphere was excellent - highly recommend, if I was to be picky about anything - only bottled beer is available (I prefer draught) If I'm ever in Liverpool again this is definitely going to be a go-to for me, Thanks to all for a great evening 👍👍

If you only have one meal in Liverpool, have it at Villa Romana! Food was delicious from start to finish and the service was superb!

The pasta I had tasted like the cheapest kind of penne from the store with the tomato sauce from a can - I expected way more. If not homemade pasta, then I wanted at least a good quality one / good sauce, but this was not it. The dessert was also not great. Wouldn’t go back.

Went here on Sunday evening on 2 Feb 2025, food was decent, but staff were rude,surly and curt, they appeared to be in a rush to close and get rid of us.I asked for the dessert trolley and was told it was put away for the night and I was asked to go to freezer to pick my sweet.Overall it was underwhelming, in complete contrast to the Gusto restaurant we visited two nights before down at Albert Dock.

6 of us ate. 4 meals were fabulous, 2 were OK. Menue says £9 something for a bottle of maybe, actual price is £30. Overcharged on a bottle of asti, which they did sor out. CHECK YOUR BILL before you pay. 2 of these were children!!!

Great restaurant, delicious food, but in my opinion a 4.6 is somewhat overrated.

As this is not a chain restaurant I feel I am unable to write one of my usual silly responses......however....pizza pasta who knew!

We visit Liverpool quite often, and this time, we decided to try a restaurant near our hotel based on the positive reviews. However, we are baffled as to how anyone who has actually tasted authentic Italian food could leave a good review for this place. This was, without a doubt, the worst Italian meal my family and I have ever had. I highly doubt the chefs are Italian, as nothing we ordered—from starters to mains—was flavorful or properly cooked. Even my little boy refused to eat the margherita pizza, which lacked real mozzarella and had a base more akin to cheap takeaway dough. Needless to say, we will not be returning. The staff were largely indifferent, treating customers like just another number in a busy restaurant. That said, one of the girls was kind and apologetic about our experience, which was a small consolation. If I could, I would rate this place a 0 out of 5.

The restaurant and vibe in itself is great, however the food is quite mediocre. Lobster ravioli have barely any taste. Tortellini the same. To be fair it ws probably the same tomato based sauce on them. Tasted like a good-ish jar sauce. A little dissapointing as we were excited to try. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes.

Amazing place and would definitely recommend to everyone. I have no faultd with this place and would definitely come back if I get the chance. All staff members are lovely and kind, food was gorgeous and we had a pizza, spaghetti carbonara and garlic bread and was lovely.

We've had such an amazing first visit to Villa Romana, & I will definitely be back again. The food & the warm welcome from the staff was fantastic! The room & deco was beautiful, we were downstairs, I think there is an upstairs too, but I didn't see that area. The dessert was the best cheesecake, I have ever tasted, I think in my life. The dessert trolley, is a lovely addition to the experience in your restaurant. Thank you for a wonderful evening, I will hopefully be back soon.

The food is very good but the front of house service is excellent. Turns another Italian meal into a special evening.

Me and the husband had struggle choosing our cocktails and Fab gave great suggestions on what we would like . The service was unbelievable , the pasta divine and the atmosphere perfect . Thank you for an amazing night !!

Booked a table whilst we were in Liverpool for a few days, on a friends recommendation. Villa Romano did not disappoint. Great service, good menu choices, good food and efficient staff. Although it was busy the staff were very attentive. Great decor, clean and marvellous sweet trolley. Do give Villa Roma a try when your next in Liverpool, you won't regret it. Xx

We arrived at this restaurant yesterday at 8.15, asking for a table for 2. The waiter looked at his watch and without looking us in the eyes said: wait a moment and soon gave us a table. In the next 10 minutes we were not ready to order, but 4 of them, one after another, came to rush us to order. We started to eat and my partner, surprise!! He found a spider 🕷️ in our salad, very polite, he said to one of them -excuse me, there is a spider in the salad, he took the plate and said: "I'll bring you another one", at that moment He was suffocated and sick. a spider in the salad??? Everyone was in the kitchen checking the spider and 10 minutes later another waiter arrived with the new salad and I said I'm sorry, I don't think I can eat it. The waiter answers. Ohh, it happens all the time in all the restaurants, it's salad.!!.. OMG I just wanted to run away from this place, not an apology, nothing, they just took the salad off the 4.50 bill. We paid and left and no one, no one at the door said goodbye or apologized. Very bad service, very bad experience.

I thought this place would be good based on reviews. We went for the lunch menu which at 14 pound for 2 courses seemed good value. The pizza was like something from Iceland. If you've been to Italy (or even Pizza Express) then the pizza here is going to be such a disappointment. Starter was fine...just fine.

Dined here as a party of 7 people. Everyone in the group really enjoyed their meal. Each course arrived all at the same time so no-one was waiting whilst others were eating. Great, attentive staff made sure the evening was a hit. Highly recommended.

Lovely restaurant and good food. We knew about the 90 minute sitting before we booked but still felt a bit rushed so we didn't go over our time limit. We didn't have time left for deserts. But apart from that all good.

Food was amazing. Wine list was mass market Italian centric but good quality. Ambience was loud and crowded but lively and enjoyable enough. Enjoyed dinner here.

Came here for my birthday. Food was really good and very good service from staff. They also played happy birthday and gave me free icecream with a candle. Definitely would come here again.10/10

Very basic food. I had Pasta Romana nothing special quite boring.

We were really looking forward to our evening in this beautiful restaurant however we were very disappointed. We booked for 8pm however they said they could take us at 8:30. We were more than happy to attend at 8:30 as we were really looking forward to eating at this particular restaurant. As we arrived at 8:30pm the kitchen staff drew us dirty looks unhappy at the time we came in. A young waiter rudely asked are you booked as we approached the front desk. We then sat down and were looking at the menu, a senior waiter approached our table abruptly and told us we better hurry up and decide what we want as kitchen closes at 9. A bit disappointing as it was the restaurant who asked if we could attend at 8:30pm however they seemed so angry at having to serve us. Service for the rest of the evening wasn’t good, the base of my partners pizza was undercooked, we understand this could have been rectified if we had sent back the food however we didn’t as we were already made to feel unwelcome enough. no second drinks were offered, no deserts offered. We had to wave over for the bill and were left so disappointed. As two hospitality workers ourselves we know and completely understand it’s not easy when restaurants are busy however we were celebrating something very special last night and unfortunately felt so disappointed. We had hoped to eat desert and have another drink however due to not feeling welcome this did not happen. Sorry to have to leave a negative review, I wish our experience was different. We would have preferred you to knock back our reservation rather than treat us this way on such a special evening.

We went last night for my daughter's birthday. The service was excellent and the place is really authentic. My starters and desert were very nice but was disappointed with my main course ( tortelloni basilica) having said that about my main my daughter's was lovely and I would recommend the place as overall it was a very good experience.

We ordered the Margherita pizza, which is not Italian at all, but it tastes excellent, and the rice with mushrooms was bad. I also did not like the tortellini with spinach and cheese. We spoke sweetly to her, and we were also impressed. 😂 The restaurant is larger than its size and has more and better options. The price for two people is 47 pounds.

Couldn't fault it. Excellent choice on the menu, very tasty food and great service. All staff were friendly and welcoming. A lively feel to the restaurant on a Friday evening, which was full, so glad we booked in advance. Very happy to recommend.

What a find! Food is impeccable and the value for money is insane. The staff were so wonderful. The dessert trolley was a personal highlight, as someone who has a massive sweet tooth. Would definitely come here again.

Amazing spot for dinner in Liverpool. We had the spaghetti bolognaise and carbonara, both of which were delicious. We also treated ourselves to a mojito and dessert, both of which were incredible! We had the salted caramel brownie and tiramisu which were wheeled to us on a very fancy dessert cart! 😋 Lovely place for a date night.

What a lovely place! We visited Villa Romana for a family meal as a small group. My daughter had visited before, and requested to go back again as she had been so impressed on her first visit. It certainly did NOT dissapoint! The ambiance in Villa Romana was perfect. The authentic decor is absolutely beautiful, the smell of amazing food, friendly reception from the staff and the whole place is spotlessly clean and well presented. The food and drink - we dined on a variety of foods from the menu and all were piping hot, beautifully presented and delicious. The dessert trolley was amazing. Wines were excellent quality and realistically priced. A good range of food options were available and again, prices were reasonable, especially for a high standard city centre restaurant. Service - this was faultless. Staff were smart, well mannered and attentive. Service was prompt and staff managed to get the balance of availability and descretion on point. We would definitely return and recommend Villa Romana, a little piece of Italy in the heart of Liverpool.

Came here as a walk in table of 4 today, despite being very busy they fit us in upstairs, the atmosphere is definitely nicer downstairs but the food and service was great, would recommend

Came here for a friends 50th birthday. Reservation highly recommended. We were sat upstairs. Service was quite quick despite being busy. The portions are a decent size. My friend got the carbonara starter size and said it was enough. We also got starters 2 garlic bread, a tomato and onion salad and goats cheese. They have a dessert trolley with plenty of options and a decent portion. Staff are friendly. Would recommend.

Had a pre-theatre meal early evening meal here. Excellent menu at sensible prices.
