Lovely staff who were more than willing to help as we just turned up as a big family. Breakfast arrived quickly and was lovely. It was nice to sit near the information boards (a bit out of the way) as we were concerned our children could be overwhelmed. This meant we could relax and enjoy our breakfast. Well done to the staff for making us feel so welcome.

Cafe is perfect for watching the ships. Staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. Food is homecooked. We enjoyed the roast chicken Sunday lunch and fish and chips. Both were delicious and very good value.

I mainly wanted to highlight the great staff that work here. The lady taking orders was so helpful, particularly as I needed to delay an order for my brother who was 15 minutes behind my group. It gave me an opportunity to see how well organised the process is and the staff work so hard to keep tables available. The food was very good, my Mum loved her cod and chips and we both had the soup of the day, carrot and coriander. It was piping hot and very tasty. Well done to all!

A New Year, but there are some things we like to remain the same. For one,our regular visits to this cafe. The place is clean and efficiently run by friendly staff. The fish is to die for! To secure a window seat is a bonus with the views across the river or to marvel at the huge boats in dock. Here's wishing all the staff a Happy New Year.

For many years, i have ventured to the Landguard Fort and enjoyed the marvellous view of the to-ing and fro-ing of the enormous container ships shuttling in and out of Britain's biggest container port. In 'olden times', I used to catch the train from Norwich, then a bus from Felixstowe Station direct to the fort. These days, it's a train from Ipswich and a cycle ride to the viewpoint with the nearby fort, at time of writing, being closed. The cafe is run by the Yeo Group, a well-established Felixstowe business which also operates the Italian/Mediterranean-themed Cafe Bencotto in the town's former fire station and the Alex Brasserie and Cafe-Bar, which I have also reviewed. Turning up mid-morning on a really chilly and misty late December day, you might have thought I'd have been among a very few hardy souls. Not a bit of it! The place was packed, with queues of folk waiting for a table. I thought the staff very friendly and helpful and, although I was only in for a coffee, the cakes and pastries on display looked very tempting indeed. Very tasty-looking fish and chips and all-day breakfasts were being devoured with some alacrity and some of my upmarket catering chums would have given their right arm for the footfall here. I would suggest that, for ship-spotters, a download of the ship tracker app which, at no cost, will tell you which ship is which and where they have been or are destined to go. Definitely one to recommend. The cafe too, of course!

Asked for flat white coffee. Paid and noticed I had 1/3rd of a cup. Explained I didn't ask for a macciato, server said it was a flat white and is 1 shots of coffee, no extra water and had a little froth on top. I explained it should have 2 shots of expresso coffee and hot milk, not froth but flat creamy milk to top of cup. Charged me another full price to add another shot of coffee. Disappointed with service.

We stopped here for lunch. WOW. Whether you sit outside on the benches which are nicely placed on a raised up decking area or inside the views are really lovely. You can look out across to Harwich/Shotley across the river Orwell. As for the food well I can highly recommend the Scampi, Chips and Peas. It was piping hot, so fresh, superb. It was busy so made a nice atmosphere. I couldn't fault it at all. The menu selection is good offering a wide variety of breakfasts and other light refreshments. They could do with adding baguettes as an option as they only offer baps. All in all I would definitely return.

Went for a late cooked breakfast and asked for a meal without tomato, but possibly replacing it with something else. i was told that they could plate up (minus tomato) but wouldn't replace with a sausage. Cost-wise i did understand this so asked for a few chips instead. It just took a bit of time to get to that conclusion with the staff....Also there was no way I could have fried bread - not an option at all even though I asked - maybe they were only thinking of my waistline!Lovely meal though, and it turns out I couldn't have eaten two sausages anyway as I was so full up!

This is a small café selling hot and cold food. You find a table and then go to the counter to order. We went on a Sunday afternoon so it was packed, but tables are cleared promptly so we didn't have to wait too long to find a seat. The most popular ones are, of course, next to the window where you get great views over the sea, and if you're lucky, spot the boats entering the harbour. We went for afternoon tea and there was a good range of cakes and biscuits. I was disappointed that they didn't have a ground coffee machine. It was a push button affair, which means that you don't always get coffee to your particular taste.

My companion and I on two days got stuck into a giant breakfast which they serve at this immaculately clean cafe. The food is so good and cooked to order. When it arrives it looks superb on the plate and every detail you have requested is there to be seen. We get there when it opens(9 am) and sit and enjoy a scrumptious coffee whilst waiting for the meal to arrive and keeping an eye on the shipping lanes for the breathtaking moment when a very large container ship float by to dock. The trip to get there is 90 miles and to be honest we would get up early and travel there just to eat the breakfast. The staff are very friendly and during the day the cafe gets really busy but they seem to cope very well. The cost of the breakfast that we have is a little above the norm but you get what you pay for and that is top quality ingredients, well cooked and presented with a smile. We have no qualms in recommending this cafe for a breakfast feast. best wishes to them, Brian and Iris.

The location is first class, by the sea, with free parking and so much to look at. Depending on the time of day huge container ships are guided in to the harbour, Dominating cranes unload the sky high piles. Cruise liners take off with decks speckled with tiny people all set for amazing destinations. The sun terrace is comfortable, the staff are incredibly cheerful - the food is good old fashioned stuff - all day breakfasts, soups - hardly gourmet but totally in keeping with the environment and atmosphere. Enjoy!

We had been meaning to visit the café for a while now but having visited it we won't be rushing back. There were so many negatives; the roadside café smell, no dessert menu, cheap plastic furniture, no idea when you enter whether you order at the table or at the counter or whether waitresses took the order (a real bugbear of ours, why not put a sign up advising how you order), too expensive for a café, awful hard chips which were almost inedible, and what sort of café serves fish and chips but doesn't offer mushy peas? We both had the haddock and chips, the fish was nice and white but the batter wasn't great and needed to be crispier. On the plus side it was very clean, the view was great and we didn't have to wait long even though it was inexplicably busy. They serve most basic café foodstuffs but it's all more expensive than normal café food but no better. If you want cheaper café food go to The Café On The Corner and if you want fish and chips go to the excellent Fish Dish Restaurant.

Lovely location, food very good and well presented, prices reasonable. Very good service, plenty of friendly staff which is needed because very busy! Nice touch to provide colouring for children whilst waiting for meals. On a nice day lovely to sit outside and take in lovely sea views and watch ships passing. Only slight criticism was strong cooking smell which I could still smell on my clothes when I got home, maybe better extraction fans to take frying fumes away from restaurant area would help?

This was a serendipity find on one of the few sunny days over New Year - to avoid going stir-crazy we went for a relatively aimless drive and found ourselves on the coast at Felixstowe. We braved the sea air at Landguard Fort (worth a visit in season) and strolled the saltmarsh wild-life-rich coastline. Getting chilly we dived into the cafe expecting a greasy spoon, but found a smart, clean, warm and friendly restaurant absolutely teeming with people. The menu was extensive, prepared in full view and included fresh fish, specials of the day, soups, cakes and more, all of which came in a choice of portion sizes and at excellent value: big mugs of fresh tea for £1 each hit the spot for us. Clean and tidy loos, a big sun deck area overlooking the busy estuary and port and loads of parking on the spot - what more could one ask?

We went there on the off chance of coffee and cake on a Sunday lunchtime. It was heaving with people, lucky to get a table, obviously a very popular destination for lunch.Only thing that let it down was the coffee out of a machine, albeit bean to cup machine. We are used to espresso based coffee.Chocolate cake and cheese scone were both terrific. It was quite noisy as most places are these days (no soft furnishings) so if you're looking for a quiet cuppa this may not be the place for you.Counter service.

Ordered this from the “specials” board, and by god was it special. My initial forage with the fork found an abundance of veg, which I thought was good. But then the second forkful was vegetables again, the meat was virtually non existent. I am not fussy really, but this was ridiculous and can’t fathom anyone actually constructing this and selling it. It came with a side of veg, which would have been nice if I hadn’t been vegged up. I’d say it’s wins the award for the worst thing I’ve eaten in at least a decade. It is basically a blob of potato on a load of veg served with instant gravy from the Co Op which we saw the waitress come in with after we ordered it. Not edible, tasted awful and no meat and you can’t serve that thinking isn’t credible. The missus had a jacket spud which was okay. Staff decent.

Came with friend's & our dog's yesterday and sat in the bar. The first thing we noticed was the good choice of food on the menu and secondly generous sized portions when the neighbouring table had their 4 meals arrive. When ours arrived (all very well presented) 2 steak and ale pies with mashed potatoes and proper veg (omg excellent) 1 vegetarian quiche with new potatoes and salad (extremely tasty) and lastly the ham egg and chips (again good quality ham, 2 fried eggs and the chips an excellent tasty plateful) Only one of us had room for pudding, a Bailey cheesecake with icecream and very well presented and nice. We are so pleased we heard wonderful thing's about this lovely village pub and decided to give it a try as will most certainly be back. To the chef a massive thank you and keep doing what you are doing.
