White Horse Inn in Suffolk Coastal

Came with friend's & our dog's yesterday and sat in the bar. The first thing we noticed was the good choice of food on the menu and secondly generous sized portions when the neighbouring table had their 4 meals arrive. When ours arrived (all very well presented) 2 steak and ale pies with mashed potatoes and proper veg (omg excellent) 1 vegetarian quiche with new potatoes and salad (extremely tasty) and lastly the ham egg and chips (again good quality ham, 2 fried eggs and the chips an excellent tasty plateful) Only one of us had room for pudding, a Bailey cheesecake with icecream and very well presented and nice. We are so pleased we heard wonderful thing's about this lovely village pub and decided to give it a try as will most certainly be back. To the chef a massive thank you and keep doing what you are doing.

Came here for lunch and was blown away with how delicious the food was, lovely location with an outdoor seating area too! What a monster of a burger!

There are pubs..and then there are great pubs ....spent a week in the quiet beautiful village of Westleton in Suffolk and the White Horse proved to be just that ..a great pub!! The focal point for so many of the local residents it was a real pleasure to be 'accepted' from day one by them all which made our evenings a time of much laughter and fun, after hard day sightseeing the coast. The owner (Amy?.. and her hubby) run it brilliantly, the food is stunning ..( the seafood platter, beyond words!!)...great work chef!! ..and a great selection of ales ..mostly Adnams.. but then you are in Suffolk!...Many visitors head for the Westleton Crown which is deemed to be a bit classier, with a more selective menu and up market reputation ..but the patronage of the locals to the White Horse tells me how popular it is!...so thanks everyone....will most definitely return.

A gem of a pub. Rustic, good old fashioned pub with excellent food. Animal friendly, very sociable and a feel good factor. Hard working patrons who go that extra mile. Couldn't manage dessert this time as mains were very satisfying but will definitely return at another date. Many thanks.

The White Horse Inn is a lovely local country pub. Really friendly and welcoming. We went for Sunday roast and they couldn’t be more accommodating for my two teenage daughters who are vegan and vegetarian respectively. I had a roast beef and the girls nut roasts. Absolutely delicious! Same for vegan brownie with vegan ice cream and sticky toffee pudding. The service is personal and attentive - they noticed that my pint was a bit too cloudy and gave me a new one without me having to ask. I would highly recommend for food and/or just a drink.

Great service. Great village pub. 2024 Update: Just revisited the White Horse after 3 years. An absolute delight, yet again. Food was great, as was the beer. The couple running the place were the perfect hosts. If only I didn't live 50 miles away, I would love this place to be my local.

Excellent local pub serving very lovely, good quality food and drinks...pity we didn't discover until the last day of our holiday but we will certainly return. Good selection of classic pub favourite dishes and some interesting specials - good size portions, food was fresh and served boiling hot..staff very polite and helpful.. alround a great meal out would recommend

Wow what can I say. We were on holiday and wanted to eat out before going home. We looked at menus at other pubs and were not impressed, white horse came out best. We were certainly not disappointed, in fact so impressed we went the last night of our holiday as well. Not only are the landlord and lady absolutely lovely the food far exceeded our expectations, could not fault it at all. It was lovely to see the chef coming out with the food, a very talented man. Good food and good prices, you'd be silly to miss it

My wife and I needed to find a venue for a quick lunchtime meal and had been told about the White Horse. We were greeted by the warm and friendly Landlady as though we were regulars which was a lovely start. The pub was very clean and inviting, not pretentious, and had a pleasant atmosphere. Drinks were delivered very quickly. The food order was also very quick to come to the table and the food was excellent. Very large portions and very tasty. We will both be coming back to this “locals”pub in the future and bringing our family as and when we are in the area as we have a Lodge just down the road.

We visited the White Horse yesterday and had a very nice meal. The staff were very friendly the food was tasty and arrived very quickly. The Adams beer was good. We will certainly be going back soon

Enthusiastic young owners make everyone welcome and provide good value & well cooked pub food. Excellent, home made scotch egg! Very well kept Adnams ales.

Google maps showing this place as open on Sunday. We got there and it was shut. Not good.

Really lovely pub with a great garden! Despite kitchen having just closed, the staff were kind enough to serve us some lunch. Really nice food with generous portions (especially the burger!!) and very friendly staff- would recommend and we will be returning.

Just spent a week in Westleton and spent several evenings at the White Horse Inn the pub. Great atmosphere where the locals were very friendly and the food was excellent. The Scottish Egg was my favorite!! Amy and Max were excellent hosts every time we were in. If you want to enjoy a less touristy atmosphere I highly recommend

Lovely pub, warm welcome, great Adnam’s beers. We had dinner, steak and ale pie, pork belly, scampi, all delicious, followed up fantastic desserts big on flavour and small in portion , perfect for us. Friendly service throughout. Everything good here, nothing to fault!

Small but friendly and great service. We felt very welcome and the food was delicious and very good value. It's good simple pub food, cooked well and portions that aren't ridiculously huge. Thanks to Matt and his team for looking after us on a cold and windy January night!

Hoping to eat here soon. Stopped for a drink the other day and had a nice chat with the landlords, and a few days later suffered a double puncture nearby and managed to crawl my way to the pub. The landlord was so kind and let me keep the car safe outside the pub until I could get it repaired. I really appreciate the community spirit. Will be back to eat here soon.

Always love the food, service and atmosphere

Lovely pub fantastic food. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips he said the fish was really fresh. I had the turkey and cranberry pie, delicious. Pastry was nice and light and crammed full. So many vegetables and all beautifully cooked. Star of the show had to be the gravy, a nice sized jug full of beautifully thick and really tasty sauce. I might have accidentally had all of it. Can't wait to re- visit yum yum.

Excellent shoot lunch, great roast pork with amazing crackling and Adams pints of beer - wonderful.

Lovely pub set in a quaint little village, I had the scampi and chips and hubby had ham egg and chips, the portion sizes are very generous and cooked well. We both have food intolerance and the staff/owners went above and beyond to accommodate us, they were double checking everything for us and made some delightful suggestions for dessert which was a real treat. Being a small pub it can get noisey, but it's a very small observation. Would definitely recommend 👌

When we came in at 18.25, after our ride from Ipswich ( 45 min ) and asked for our table, they looked at us as if we told a joke, no table, no sorry at all and they turned around and serving people at the bar, as if we were nobody. Terrible, Terrible and never ever go there again.

Amazing community paired with great food. Everything seems so casual as you can talk to the owners and the workers like they we your friends. Every Sunday they do a raffle and you can win over a hundred pounds! The service time is great and you can keep tabs for years! The White Horse is probably the most dog friendly business I have been to. They know my dog’s name and checks up on him! In conclusion, this pub maximises casualness along with fast and delicious food.

I really liked this pub. It was quiet, friendly and Normal. Really excellent food - not fussy, but delicious and lots of veggie options. Beer well kept. A lovely village pub. If you want Telly sport and a music machine, it's not for you!

If you want a drink past 8pm this is not the place to go. Despite opening hours saying until 10pm we got there at 8 and the land lady started turning all the lights off and shutting shop. We asked repeatedly if they were shutting up and the barmaid stated it’s not my decision ask her. It’s an openly hostile environment, with no welcome given unless have a dog. They make up the opening hours and are openly ridiculed and despised by locals, as we found out when we went two roads over to the other pub in the village.

As a Suffolk gal I never expect much from an Adnams pub. But absolutely delighted to have this family run pub, clearly in charge of the day to day running, the vegan food and the fact they accept cash! #DontKillCash

Hidden gem. Tasty food, big portions, reasonably priced. Feels like a cosy local.

We are on holiday and had an evening meal. The food was excellent. Even better is the service and the atmosphere. Staff were really helpful, kind and accommodating. I would return without any persuasion. Thank you for a lovely evening

This is a local cute little pub, my food was fine, but felt a little small/simplistic given the price. Again ordering the squid starter for £8 and 5 small pieces of squid was served. We were told later on that there were only two staff on, so i understand things slip sometimes. I had the meat platter for £15, yummy and looked great, again there just wasn't really that much, having said that, I was given a whole scotch egg and the menu said half, so bonus! My partner however ordered the pie, with chips and veg. The pie was the best bit, however gravy and veg seemed to lack salt and the parsnips had hard cores. Unfortunately the chips were also rather anemic and a bit on the hard side. Given that there were only two people on shift and that all the other reviews say the food was amazing, I feel we may have popped in on an off day. The beer was great though!

Lovely location with a serene atmosphere and plesand staff who work quickly and efficiently. Lovely beer selection. Food was mediocre, had the steak and ale pie and the pie itself was lovely but the chips were undercooked and the veg lacked flavour and was either over boiled or under boiled. Seemed to be understaffed so lapse in food quality may only be an occasional thing. All the rest was lovely and I would visit again :)

Went to this pub because we have been before and the pub was great good food and staff went today and cannot say about food as didn't have a meal but the person behind the bar was not pleasant not friendly at all

My husband and I were on a short break in East Anglia staying for a couple of nights in Westleton. We ate one night at the Crown and wanted something a little different on our other night without having to drive. We booked a table at the White Horse and had a very pleasant dinner with great service. Generous portions of good food in a nicely decorated establishment with excellent service. The pub was busy but this didn’t detract from our experience. We will certainly eat here again if staying locally.

Great pub with a good range of beers, wines by the glass and good food. We came for dinner and had two of the grazing platters. Prompt friendly service, and good value. Highly recommended.

Tried booking a meal for Saturday night..fully booked...ate elsewhere then went to pub at 8.30pm Saturday night for a drink to be told by barman they can't serve us as cashed up & closing even though still about 10 customers in there..absolute joke !!

The White Horse is a traditional looking pub, with a good range of drinks. We were staying locally and thought we'd try it out. The service was friendly, I had the steak pie, gravy, mash & vegetables. The pie & gravy were nice but not much meat in the pie, the mash unfortunately was very dense and tasted like it was out of a packet, the vegetables were very 'al dente' to the point I couldn't cut them for fear of them flying off the plate. Hubby had the fish in batter, which was fine. We each had a sweet and they were delicious and moreish. It's a great pub, and does get very busy.

What a fabulous place - very friendly and welcoming, and wonderful delicious food - a lovely traditional village pub. Probably need to book to make sure you can enjoy this little gem. Highly recommended!

Whilst on a days walk and birdwatching we popped into the White Horse Inn for lunch. Everyone was VERY friendly and helpful, we immediately felt welcomed and relaxed. Our Adnams beers were excellent and we had two lovely lunches. I had really tasty fish & chips and my partner had a huge, homemade scotch egg. We heartily recommend the White Horse and will certainly return - best lunch out we've had in years!

We enjoyed our evening meal at the White Horse Inn. We were seated downstairs away from the bar which was perfect for us, with two young children. The children had a huge plate of ham, eggs and peas to share which they tucked into happily. My husband and I had fish and chips, although I asked to have mine grilled rather than battered and fried, which they kindly accommodated. Fresh and tasty. We also had vegetable pakoras as a starter which my husband said was the best thing he tried during our stay in Suffolk. Service was friendly and efficient too.

Whilst staying in the village we called in to this pub one evening and were befriended by some of the locals. The whole ambience of this pub is superb. It is a typical local drinking pub that also serves fantastic meals. The landlady is hospitable and makes you feel at home. We are visiting from South Wales and have been accepted by the community via the pub. If like us you're holidaying this is the place to visit. We have been to this pub 8 days out of our eleven day stay. Thank you Amy and staff.

Excellent real pub with a great atmosphere and lovely food. We booked on the phone for the first evening and it was so good we booked again for another evening before we left. Recommended!

Nice pub. Good beer. Friendly. We ate there twice. First time was fine. On second occasion, having booked three days in advance, we were given a table a few feet from the door (on a cold, windy evening). The "steak and kidney" pie was a good size and had good pasty, but little steak and even less kidney (three pieces, none much bigger than a grain of rice). Had it been advertised as a mince pie and priced accordingly it would have been good but advertised as it was, it was a failure.

Lovely little place! Stopped in for lunch after a walk nearby, staff were incredibly friendly, and we were served very quickly for both drinks upon arrival, and taking our orders. Loved that there were a variety of vegetarian & vegan options on the menu (including a jackfruit pie!) sometimes this is hard to come by at certain pubs. They are dog friendly too 🐶 We’ll certain be back again in future if we are in the area.

I really enjoyed my visit recently to the White horse. Several things that impressed me: they were really family friendly with high chairs, children's menu and changing facilities. There was also several interesting vegan options which caught my eye. A tiny point to improve would be to have a few more vegetarian options as well as vegan. There was also no vegetarian or vegan options on the children's menu. Luckily my son was happy with just chips. The place was so lovely and friendly and the staff really wonderful that I wouldn't let this put me off - I am already thinking about when to come back 😃

So happy we went to the Whitehorse for dinner. The pub was full of locals who were all very friendly and the bar had a great range of drinks. The food was all freshly cooked and was wonderful.

Lovely, small-ish unpretentious pub. Staff were friendly and very efficient, good selection of beers plus a pub dog. Floorboards, no music, good value food. Absolutely perfect. Well worth a visit but although they serve food from 6pm, not sure if they serve all evening. Best to check.

We hadn't booked, but arrived at opening time in the hope of securing a table for two. We were welcomed, and directed to a table for two in an area separate from the bar. We were invited to purchase drinks, which were bought to our table together with the menu. I'll eat anything except oysters and marrow, so everything on the menu was OK by me. I chose steak and kidney pie with red cabbage cooked in orange juice, together with mustard mashed potatoes. The pie was full of tender steak chunks and a fair amount of kidney. The pastry was firm and flavoured with a dash of herbs on the crust for extra taste. Far far better than Fray Bentos. My wife chose lasagne. This was a sizeable slice which she managed to finish. She is very critical of poor quality cooking. There were no complaints. For dessert I chose apple and autumn fruit crumble with ice cream. The staff were happy to provide two spoons so we could share. We were even offered a second empty dish to enable us to transfer half the crumble to it for my wife to eat more easily. Overall a good price for a very good meal, with very friendly and helpful staff. We did think mid week would guarantee a table. Both the bar tables and restaurant tables were soon filled, so would recommend booking to ensure you secure a table. There is street parking, and a pub car park. The car park was not illuminated, and it is difficult to see after dark. There are floodlights attached to the outbuildings over looking the carpark, but we're not on. Possibly an omission on the part of the staff to switch them on.

Chicken pie was absolutely delicious.

Simply excellent food at very reasonable prices. Light as a feather batter on fresh cod. The venison sausages and garlic mash...simply superb. Compliments au chef!!

We were staying in Westleton village and are so pleased that we booked dinner at this great village pub. The menu has a good selection and reasonably priced. We chose the seafood platter followed by summer pudding/cream and bakewell tart/custard, the food was absolutely delicious...

Had a lovely burger tasted homemade nice coleslaw. Chips very pale and soft wasn’t so nice. Setting of the pub lovely.

Popular pub with very nice hosts. Hearty roast for Sunday Lunch, with very good vegetables. Portions are big. Ask for gravy jug - my son wouldn't eat his as it was dripping with gravy. Beef was a bit underdone and tough, pork was more fat than meat and minimal chewy crackling. I've eaten other items on the menu before which were all good.

Speed here for a nice drink in the garden. Nice looking menu with loads of fresh fish, but we may not squeeze in a meal this time, so we'll have to come back!
