You can't come to Brighton without visiting this iconic hotel. We sat in the bar and had an afternoon snack. BLT | Toasted bread, streaky bacon. gem luttuce. homemade £14. Smoked salmon & tiger prawn. iceburg lettuce, avocado. lemon. £16. And two pots of tea. Thought the prices were quite reasonable for such an impressive hotel. The service was good and we especially like it here as you can sit with your dogs.

This is a spenny bar in a luxury setting. Staff are good, drinks are lovely and it has an amazing ambience, I think for the price you pay the service could be a little more attentive.

Recently stayed at The Grand & had a couple of visits to the lounge/bar. First visit was when we arrived & called in for a quick sandwich & drink. All perfectly okay. Coronation chicken sandwich was overflowing with filling & very tasty. Staff were also very helpful & polite during this visit. Later in the day (after attending a gig next door in the Brighton Centre) we called in for drinks. The whole area was packed, nowhere for people to sit, they’d even shut off the terrace section (although they did later open this up) Not enough staff, quite chaotic. Quite surprised that they were not set up for people calling in for late night drinks, as you’d think they would be aware from room bookings & knowledge of a gig next door that it would be busy 🙄

We were staying at the Grand Hotel so for our first night we thought we try the Victoria Grill. Very disappointed with the corn fed chicken breast (at £16pp) we choose - it was very chewy. Portions of chips and peas (enormous amount of peas) were extra and we thought it was certainly not worth the money. We didn't eat in the hotel again. Expected much better.

The best thing about this place is the location: overlooking the sea in funky Brighton (don't miss it!). It's housed in the Grand Hotel, which in itself is worth seeing. But the tea service is no big deal: we've had better sandwiches elsewhere; the scones were a bit dense, and.the miniature savories weren't quite as flavorful as they should be. British friends tell us there are more interesting places to have High Tea -- with updated versions of the traditional cream-cheese-cucumber servings. But if you want the old-fashioned kind, at least the setting is right.

Very disapointed by the afyernoon tea at the Grand. Maybe my expectations were too high as it was served in the Grand. Nothing grand about. 3 measly sad looking finger sandwiches, and a few cakes hardly warrants calling this afternoon tea. The savory starters were a cold small slice of sausage roll, and a couple of other non descript bits made even more disappointing by the fact they were served cold. Surprising that even the Scone were served cold and without butter. Enough jam and clotted cream for the solitary scone though. The waitress was questioned why the savories and scones were cold but she did not seem to comprehend. What a shame, but can easily be fixed if the management will take the comments on board.

Sadly this place has deteriorated so much since my last (3/5) review in 2016, though i did go back in 2019. However, yesterday's visit was the last time i'll ever waste time and money here. Simply not good enough, no quality, nothing remotely "wow". No finesse with the pastries, sweet or savoury - in fact i'd say its an embarrassment. Pathetic savoury items consisted of 3 measly pieces, one tartlet of some description, cold, tired, dry, one thinly sliced sausage roll, one malteser sized scotch egg - i swear you'd get better on a grab and go counter at Lidl. As for the sandwiches? oh, so now they cut back from 4 items, to 3, cheap soft bread, smoked salmon, cucumber and cream cheese and one ham and mustard. The scones arrived cold, hard, dry, had better from Greggs tbh - and served without butter on the side? just clotted cream and jam. The tea's arrived, after everything else, like 10min later whilst we sat there waiting... And £45 for an £8 bottle of Prosecco? Wow.... I couldn't be less impressed withe the UN-Grand. Its become a place for the working class chav oiks frequenting the bar/lounge area. Such a pity to see how far this place has deteriorated. If you're one of those looking for covid safe environment...look elsewhere...packed in like sardines, cheek by jowl... You couldn't pay me to go back here....RUBBISH! and an embarrassment to the once great Grand.

This was a Christmas present that I bought for my elderly parents pre-Covid. Covid meant that the date kept being extended & pushed back. The voucher had to be used by the end of September & unfortunately my parents weren't up to their treat - so I had to use the voucher myself!! Such a delightful experience & not something we would normally indulge in - but I'm so glad that we did!. From the menu we were able to choose the tea that we wanted & the selection of sandwiches & pastries. We requested one vegetarian & one non vegetarian afternoon tea selection. We also ordered 2 glasses of champagne. The Victoria lounge is lovely - very calm & tranquil. It offers views of the sea front & the West Pier. The service was excellent. My vegetarian sandwiches, cakes & scones were wonderful. There was so much food that we had to request a doggy bag to take the remainder home in (it should also be mentioned that we were so full that we weren't able to eat again that day!). Afternoon Tea isn't our usual thing - but I'm so glad that we were able to do this. The Grand is a lovely hotel & the service & food was excellent & they could not have been more accommodating re. my elderly parents. Highly recommended.

Staying in the Grange we made good use of the Bar/Lounge, we were warmly welcomed at all times and really enjoyed some of the more unusual offerings such as the Elephant Gin which has an amazing back story. Staff were excellent, the cocktails amazing and the small plates for snacks we ordered were fairly good too. I don't usually rate hotel bars highly but this one is the exception! During our time at the Grand we also indulged in the Afternoon Tea which was superb - good job guys thanks for looking after us.

We were staying at The Grand for our Anniversary for 2 nights. For the 2nd night we booked a table here. The menu doesn't have a great choice but my husband ordered the special which was cod served on a bed of garlic mash puree with spinach & bacon with a tomato salsa & pea puree. I ordered butterfly chicken with lemon, thyme & honey, mash & salad. When the waiter took our order my husband said he'd have the cod, the waiter said they didn't have cod, so my husband then said it was the special, to which the reply was Oh, the special, yes that's very good. He sounded patronising. When the food arrived, my husband said his was very nice, mine however was on the dry side & tasted overcooked. I couldn't taste any thyme or lemon. It was still nice but there's not really an excuse to get grilled chicken wrong! The mash was very good. The waiter went to every table except ours to see if their food was ok. The deserts were the best. Our meal came to just over £91. 12.5% service charge was excessive in this case as we both found that the service wasn't great & the food just wasn't good enough in a hotel of this standard. There was a waitress who also served our first drink & cup of tea & she was lovely. The restaurant itself is very nice.

Visited as a last treat before our baby is born and enjoyed the experience. It's a very nice setting, staff are quite friendly. The afternoon tea was tasty. Probably the only thing I didn't love was the lemon meringue tart which was extremely sugary, like when you bit into it, it was full of sugar granules. But aside from that, everything tasted nice and was presented well.

I booked expecting my mind to be blown with the price they were charging. Requested that we have vegetarian options and we might as well have been served cardboard. The sandwiches were bland, the cakes were dry and stale and needed to be washed down with the luke warm tea we were served. The only consolation was the ok scone, if served cold. This was supposed to be a special birthday treat and i left embarrassed. Have a second star for the helpful staff.

No volveremos

I took my overseas’ visitor there on her request to experience the great British afternoon tea. The first impression was great, the ambiance of the hotel and the Victoria lounge was absolutely lovely. When seated, I did notice some tea stains in my tea cup which was a bit disappointing, then teapots arrived with some tomato bits attached on mine which I later found out that this tomato bits should accompany a quiche rather than a teapot. The cucumber and cream cheese sandwich was soggy and the worst of all, one of the sandwich plates had a piece of cling film attached!!! No wonder it was soggy, so not freshly made.Scones and quiche were vaguely warm, and I didn’t find any cakes good when tasted although they looked beautiful. When I asked if we can take some cakes with us, the waitress (that what we thought) said “I don’t know, I’m only a student learning English” !!! I don’t mind if there’s a student experiencing work or learning English, but if they are on the floor we expect a professional attitude towards guests. Too much ??So it was a disappointing experience for me and my friend never to be repeated.

Whilst the Grand Brighton is absolutely beautiful and the Victoria Lounge is full of character, our afternoon tea experience was rather poor. Service was virtually absent, not a single member of staff approached to check on us except to deliver the food with an air of indifference (event to just get the bill we had to look for someone at the bar twice!). During our time at the Victoria Lounge, we could see how dirty plates piled up in all the tables as no member of staff even passed by. But perhaps most disappointing were the scones which were served cold and and so dry they crumbled apart. I should acknowledge that the elderflower jelly was absolutely delicious, yet the rest of the sandwiches and pastries were merely okay. Given the flamboyant description shown on the website and the menu, one would have hoped for much more. Spare yourself from a mediocre experience and visit any of the lovely small coffee shops or tea rooms at the Lanes instead!

Booked afternoon tea for myself and two friends, one an American girl who I wanted to show a proper English afternoon tea to. The venue itself is lovely. When the sandwiches came I was shocked at how few there were, I realise they are cut in oblongs but there were so few and the quiche was slightly larger than a 10pence piece. Anyway they tasted nice. We were given a pot of tea each which really only had a tea cup and a half in each.. The waiter then cleared our plates away and brought the cake stand with two scones each and a vareity of small cakes. We were not given any new plates and could not get a waiters attention so had use our dirty saucers for our cakes!!!! The scones were OK but there was no butter and a small pot of cream and jam which was only enough for two scones at a push so asked for more jam and cream. The other cakes were average at best and reminded us of something bought out of Iceland... All in all very over priced for what we were served (just under £30 per person!!). Very very disappointed. Such a shame as the venue is lovely.

As a Birthday Treat we took an American Lady friend to breakfast at the Victoria Terrace @ The Grand Hotel, this having been recommended by someone on Facebook.First the surroundings, the decor beautiful, elegant, and yes Grand. Even with the current scaffolding, you still get glorious view of Brighton front and the sea. And very plush and comfortable seating too.Coffee comes @ £4, although expensive it tasted velvety and strong, and arrived in a beautiful vacuum cup, keeping the surface cool, and the contents hot. It was so pleasant I ordered a second. The tea again @ £4, but this was traditionally, and elegantly served. A bone China cup and saucer, a metal tea strainer with stand, accompanied by antique looking teapot, with an additional matching pot of hot water, the milk however let down the affair, by being in an ugly oversized glass jug. The tea was a little weak, for my taste, and they could have been more generous with the tea leaves. We chose three different breakfasts from the menu. The "Full English" @ £12 should have been a stupendous taste sensation, but was a real let down. A sausage burger redolent of a "Big Breakfast" chez McDonalds, which did not excel and in my books not part of a typical "Full English".Four pieces of very very overlooked thick streaky bacon an oddly shaped slice of insipid French toast, it could have been a cleaning sponge .The scrambled eggs, tasted like they had come from the house breakfast trays cooked hours before, pale ,watery and not creamy at all? A atrocious oddly cut black pudding which had an incredible ( not in a good way) cloying consistency and a small leathery mushroom.I would have expected for this price and being so "Full"it would have come with sourdough toast, butter, perhaps home made baked beans, or hash browns??? No such luck fellow Breakfasteers !The three egg omelette @£8 with tomato, spinach, and mushrooms was unremarkable, apart from its odd appearance. It looked like an unappetising pizza, or tortilla. It was actually dry, and the contents didn't taste fresh or of high quality either. The omelette should have been light, airy, unctuous, with wonderful expertly cooked buttery seasoned spinach, and mushrooms, folded over with some sort of aspiring garnish. The chorizo crushed potatoes with one egg @£8 was fairly tasty, but again dry, and needed something additional to raise the bar, Hollandaise? The service was slow, but we felt a potential good sign that everything was being freshly cooked ? In retrospect, some items were definitely not. The service from Richard however was very attentive and professional and proved to be one high spot of what was otherwise a deeply "unGrand" experience. The small personal pot of Heinz sauce was a nice touch, but there was no essential breakfast brown sauce. The bill came to a whooping £48.95, and although they included service charge, they did also expect a gratuity too????We were expecting Cordon-Bleu, but got James Cordon instead whilst driving doing karaoke....Service 8/10Value 3/10Quality 4/10Ambience 9/10 — at Grand Brighton Hotel

I went to afternoon tea at The Grand Hotel Brighton today with my elderly parents. I go to a lot of places for afternoon tea. This was at best average. There are three set times. We arrived at 2.15 for a 2.30 sitting and were seated at 2.25. The service from the restaurant staff was very good and friendly. Our order was taken promptly and the tea was served immediately. We then waited and waited for the food. It didn't arrive until 2.55. That just isn't good enough. Had the food been freshly prepared, perhaps that would have explained it. But it wasn't. The sandwiches were nice, but slightly chilled - they had been in some sort of cold storage. The scones too were fine, but they were cold, not freshly baked. The cakes were disappointing, and I very much doubt whether they had been made today. I point all this out because it is absolutely inexcusable to keep people waiting for half hour for something that just has to be put on plates. Whoever is responsible for assembling afternoon teas in the kitchen is badly letting the hotel down. Or perhaps the hotel doesn't think mere afternoon tea customers are important enough to deserve the sort of service they ought to get at a hotel with the pretensions of The Grand.T

For the high tea, i'd expected a lot more frankly.Yes the sea views (beyond the main road traffic) are nice on a sunny day, and yes you can see the i360 and yes you can see the Pier.So how about the "Tea"?For £30 a head i'd expected a lot more, than 4 soldier sandwiches of x 1 Ham, 1x Cucumber, 1x smoked salmon, 1x egg mayo!Scones were ok, i suspect not "home" baked on the premises and the mini patisserie and cakes were standard (nowhere near as good as Julien Plumart on Duke St tho!). Service was ok, as you'd expect, attentive and smiling. The experience was at best 'nice', not 'great' and yes filling, but nothing particularly special or anything to rave about. If this is the best "Tea" in Brighton them i'm shocked and appalled frankly, given there are so may great places to eat - the high tea has missed a trick, and someone somewhere should seize a great opportunity.

The service was superb, unobtrusive and thoroughly professional. If you needed anything you only had to ask. If you didn't like a sandwich filling or a cake you were freely and swiftly offered alternatives. More tea? No problem. The room is air-conditioned and kept at a constant temperature. The background music is piped but unobtrusive. The view of the seafront is also great for people watching. A lovely occasion. Thank you.

We enjoyed our afternoon tea immensely. The staff were friendly and polite and always on hand if you needed anything. The food was delicious, a range of sandwiches and wide array of cakes. Pretty china plates and silver teapots made the table look rather lovely, We were sat by the window directly overlooking the seafront, which was just perfect.for people watching. There were a good range of cocktails in the bar in the evening with complimentary nibbles. All delivered with perfect service!

We were quite disappointed I’m afraid as we Afternoon Tea is one of our favourite things to do as a family and we had been very much looking forward to it.The service was erratic but friendly. My son’s fish and chips were very good. The Afternoon Tea was poor though. The bread was bland, not freshly baked and the sandwiches had been made in bulk. We asked if we could change one sandwich but the answer was “no, sorry they are all made at the beginning of the day”. The scones were not fresh and were cold. The patisserie lacked flavour in favour of too much cream. The room was very nicely decorated though.

We stayed at the hotel and were in the bar a couple of times. It got quite crowded (weekend) and the wait for a drink was sometimes a little longer than you want. When your turn comes, however you get a "sorry to keep you waiting" a big smile and good service, so all is forgiven. Thanks to the staff.

We thought for a treat we would do the 40min drive to Brighton. We decided to go for an afternoon tea, it was quite hard to decide where to do this, not knowing Brighton very well. So we went for the known of The Grand, feeling that it was a safe bet. At just over £24 each this was one of the more expensive places to have afternoon tea in Brighton. We sat in the conservatory area of the hotel with beautiful view out to the sea. The seating was nicely spaced so you didn't feel squashed but there was still a nice atmosphere. There was an awfully loud drilling noise for the duration of the afternoon tea, not the hotels fault, but it took a good 15 mins or so to get used to and killed the atmosphere abit.In terms of the food, the sandwiches were really basic and plain, the scones were dry, if someone told me that they had got them from the local sainsburys I wouldn't have been surprised. The pastries were nice. No one approached us to ask us how things were or if we wanted anything replenished. I think we were expecting something abit special because of the hotel and price but what we got was something pretty basic. I went for afternoon tea at one of the Dorchester Hotels and I think I was just really spoilt there in terms of quality of food and service. I mean they even wrapped up the scones to keep them warm and fresh! until we were ready to eat them!.That said my husband and I had a lovely afternoon, great company, a relaxing atmosphere and lovely view.

I treated my cousin to Afternoon Tea at The Grand Hotel as a present for her 50th birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Very friendly waiting staff, seated in the conservatory in comfortable armchairs, overlooking Brighton Beach. The food was plentiful and certainly worth every penny. Delicious sandwiches, followed by scones with jam and cream, then several cakes. Delicious! They do two sittings - one at 2pm, one at 4.30pm. Opted for the 2pm sitting and was that full up I didn't need to eat again until breakfast the following morning! Tea is served in silver tea pots and the cups are bone china. Felt very posh! And my lemon and ginger tea was gorgeous. A lovely way to spend a Wednesday afternoon.

Located at the Grand Hotel is the beechwood and nautical themed Victoria Terrace and adjoining Lounge, both equally enticing. Booking ahead is a must and the welcome is guaranteed. We were a party of four and enjoyed brilliant, personal service with a smile. Clearly the overall team enjoy working here. Choose from a range of teas to accompany sandwiches, scones and decorative cakes. Doggy bags with hotel logo are provided on request. We did not feel rushed and had a lovely time. Delicate china and silver tea pots completed the ambience. Highly recommended.

The Tea itself comes with delicious sandwiches, scones, home made cakes and pastries - in fact so much we were given a delightful box to take home the remainder!!! The surroundings were relaxing with the sun streaming in and a lovely view of the sea - a really lovely treat

We opened our celebration of my partner’s special birthday for a light lunch in the Victoria Bar, Lounge and Terrace at The Grand Hotel.Cheese and chutney sandwich for me and smoked salmon sandwich for her, all washed down with a couple of glasses of Prosecco. Okay, so the food may be a little overpriced, but it is good quality and nicely presented. This combined with the luxurious surroundings, including furniture to sink into and a piano player in the lounge, made the day feel superior.Staff are attentive and are clearly accustomed to parties who are mainly there for the famous afternoon teas. One of the managers kindly offered to take photos of us on our camera and ensured that we were well looked after.

Years ago we tried fish and chips in London and they were awful. But someone told us that we have to go to the sea. So when we were in Brighton we thought we would give them a try. This time, we were guided byna local and we were NOT disappointed. The best fish and chips I have had in ages, on either side of the Atlantic.

My daughter and I live in Brighton and decided to go on the pier and have a morning coffee/hot chocolate, I paid £5.00 for the two drinks, whilst waiting the machine broke down so the cup of hot chocolate was only half full, then she couldn't make the latte and went out the back to make it, I asked if she could fill the hot chocolate up and she said she couldn't as she didn't have any water!!! We found a seat outside my daughter tasted her hot chocolate and it tasted as though a spoonful, if that of chocolate had been used and just water and a drip of milk it was disgusting as was my latte which tasted like milky water, how can you call this good service they should be ashamed that they take people's money and expect then to accept such a dire service

Me and my friends had some drinks at the Victoria bar after a local shopassistant recommended this bar. Great atmosphere and the headbarman Michail is the best! He knows how to make the best cocktails, during the cocktailnights in the weekend. He is professional, kind and very helpfull. We asked him for some tips during our stay in Brighton and he knew his way around. It was pretty busy, but we felt welcome and comfortable at the Grand. By the look of the hotel, next time we will definitley book a room over here, if the budget allows it.

Took my mum here for a great afternoon tea! Being Londoners who like the afternoon tea scene in the grand hotels of London, this was a real treat. Beautiful interior, nice peaceful ambiance (complete with piano playing in the background), we were lucky enough to be there on a sunny day so had splendid views overlooking the sea, fantastic place to watch the sun set over the beach! The afternoon tea was great with fresh sandwiches and scones and a great selection of cakes and pastries, the tea blends we tried were great too!Highly recommended for those who'd either like to have an afternoon tea to impress, or grab a cocktail in a beautiful setting at the end of a great day at the sea!

On many occasions have enjoyed afternoon tea at The Grand Hotel, Brighton. Having cream tea there recently was not an enjoyable event. The scones were served cold. When this was pointed out to a waitress she was blatantly unaware that scones are meant to be served warm, and with an air of indifference removed the scones. What a pity such individuals are employed in 'grand' settings., particularly when they do not have the grace to apologise for the mistake, and are blatantly unaware. Thankfully, there was a waiter who knew the correct form of service!

Was given Afternoon Tea gift vouchers for my birthday. Went with my husband one April afternoon. Sat in the conservatory at the front of the building. The place is steeped in history, very opulent and 'grand' but... afternoon tea @ £25 a head was disappointing, there were better choices in the town, including the Royal Pavilion. Cakes looked ordinary and we were offered more sandwiches way after we had finished eating. Also, sadly, the waitresses spray cleaned the tables and left the spray out (with the cloth) which looked tawdy. And the ground floor loos were so, so tired with paper all over the floor (tho that's down to lazy clients rather than staff). I believe the place is still undergoing refurbishment. I hope it includes the loos. And staff need to up their game a tad... including the door and reception staff. We weren't smiled at the entire time we were there. Will try Ella's on Queen's Road next time.
