These comments are confined to a South African themed evening. It is possible that a qualified chef works during the day hence the enthusiastic reviews elsewhere. Frankly we were taken for mugs. The South African theme decor was confined to two flags attached to an unlit lamp on our table. Not even the background music appeared to be South African themed. The menu was extremely limited and was pre-publicised. So you would think that the menu choices would be available. Just three menu choices: beef or oxtail curry or an extremely over priced platter. There was no beef curry available despite the fact that there were no more than 10 other customers in the cafe and we had prebooked and been forced to part with £16 deposit. Had this not been the case we would have probably left without delay after bring told that no beef was available. Obviously the chef could not be bothered to go to the butchers. After a shared, tiny bowl of biltong the platter arrived consisting of half a cheese and tomato toastie, four tiny pieces of boerwurst (each piece was the size of half an average finger), some maize meal served in a tangy sauce and two small twisted burnt lamb chops. These were so brown that you could not differentiate between fat, bone and meat. This platter cost a whopping £18!!. My score is generous in the circumstances and I advise other potential customers to avoid being taken in by the cafe's hype on social media. The host spent a lot of time that evening laughing, probably at our expense.

Nice quiet location. It is a sports pavilion situated in a very green, well maintained area. Inside it Is very stylish. The menu was simple but adequate. The toilets were modern and clean but not sign posted. The staff were friendly enough and the prices were fair. The food is locally sourced and cooked to order. There is an all day breakfast menu. This location is seasonal. This was our first visit and we enjoyed our visit. My only criticisms are 1. My BLT sandwich bread was not buttered so it was a little dry 2. The staff forgot to serve the toast which was included with the small breakfast 3. There were lots of cigarette butts under our outside table. Our visit was am so these should have been Cleaned up prior to opening.

9 of us descended upon this wonderful cafe very last minute and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. They managed to find us a table where we could all sit together and never once made us feel like we were inconveniencing them. The food was also excellent. It was hot, delicious and plentiful. This was the first time we had visited and we will certainly be going again. Most likely to try one of the delicious looking burgers.

We had a lovely stop here for lunch on the way to the gold panning at Salcombe Farm. Lunch was lovely - especially the homemade pizzas - and the gazebo was really nice and cozy/atmospheric. Also, the owner (I think) and all the staff were very friendly. A really nice stop. Thanks.

We planned a trip out to North Devon and decided to have lunch in Holsworthy - I checked Tripadvisor reviews for a good place to eat and the Blagdon Wharf sounded great, backed up by a very nice website - what a disappointment when we got there as it is a very small wooden cabin / cafe perched at the top of a rather steep field - only one table inside plus a small outside catering type shelter plus some outside tables - the staff were very professional and friendly but we had to wait best part of half an hour to get our food and the cafe was not particularly busy - the food was nothing memorable and quite expensive - overall, we were disappointed with our visit as our expectations of a fine lunch in a super farm cafe bistro had not materialised - even worse, there are no proper toilets, just a single portaloo for all to enjoy - sorry, we won't be coming back.

We had a really good lunch here today. The goose and South African burgers were delicious with subtle flavours that lingered on the palate. We're looking forward trying the rest of the menu.

We googled ‘places to have breakfast in Holsworthy’ and this little gem popped up. Whilst it doesn’t look much from the outside (a little wooden cabin) it’s what’s on the inside that counts. We were met with a lovely welcome and even tastier breakfast. My husband had the full English and I had the BLT. Both cooked to perfection with local fresh produce. We were even asked how we would like our bacon!! Nice to have met you both. Will defintely visit again when next in the area.

A really nice, peaceful location to sit and have something to eat, run by a lovely couple. I really enjoyed seeing some great South African food on the menu! You can grab a cuppa and cake or an ice-cream, or choose a delicious home made meal while you watch the animals in the adjoining field. Watch for the monthly theme evenings!

Popped in here for a coffee and so glad we did. Not your average farm shop but go there for the food it's out of this world. The ploughman's is the best we've had in Devon or Cornwall and the toasted bacon and stilton sandwich was to die for. Very friendly laid back hosts and reasonably priced too. If your looking for somewhere to have lunch make it here. Will definitely be back next time we are in the area. In fact can't wait to go back .

Simon is a hidden talent in this gem of a 'wooden cabin café' amidst rolling green pastures you can view the townscape of Holsworthy, hear the church bells ring and stroke the horses all from his outside picnic tables and when it gets chillier the inside provides a cosy rest bite. Now for the produce. A coffee snob Simons coffee is hands down the best beans and he takes care, in all that he does, to make the best cup of Java. The cakes yyuuuummmm!!! delicious recipes tried and tested until he feels their the highest standard, and they are.

Had a fantastic "special" burger yesterday. A lovely burger in a bap with all the trimmings - tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and pineapple. OK, you don't have to have the pineapple or the cheese, or the tomatoes or, even the lettuce! But you probably want the bap and the beef otherwise it wouldn't be a burger :-)There are loads of other things to choose from including the all day breakfast and delicious cakes. Today I'm hoping that they have some of the coffee and walnut sponge left.

I popped in to the Secret Garden Cafe hoping to have a light lunch with my daughter for a special treat - we had been given a £15 voucher to spend and had been really looking forward to our visit. However, it was not the lovely lunch we were hoping for… When we went in, there was a bit of a wait for a table. One of the waiting staff popped out into the garden to see if a table was free there. The older man in the kitchen spoke very rudely to him saying a rather aggressive manner, “you should know if there’s a table free if you could only do your job properly!” The poor guy (who was probably only late teens) looked really upset. While we were waiting for a table, I chatted to another staff member and showed her my gift voucher saying we were excited to finally be able to use it as we had been given it for Christmas. The man in the kitchen then demanded to have a look at it. He said that we couldn’t possibly use the voucher as he only provides laminated vouchers and ours was just on a piece of paper. He implied that we had printed it off ourselves! He then questioned me (in a very abrupt and abrasive manner) for about 5 minutes via the female staff member, wanting to know where I had got the voucher and kept repeating that he only ever gives out laminated ones. I wasn’t really sure what to say! He then asked the female staff member to write down a note about the voucher in their book and take my name and phone number! He said I couldn’t use the voucher until “it had been investigated.” I felt like a criminal! It was also very embarrassing and uncomfortable as everyone in the cafe was staring at my daughter and I! I was then given a menu and told that someone would be over to take our order. I said no thank you, and we walked hastily out. I won’t be back. My auntie (who gifted me the voucher) has been conned out of her £15 so if you are considering buying vouchers from here as a gift, I would say don’t bother, as you won’t be able to use them!

What a lovely coffee shop. Friendly staff, excellent taste in music (Taylor Swift). Clean and bright cafe. Hope small businesses like this come through the energy crisis, would be a shame to lose this type of establishment.

Lovely beachside cafe, great place for a good breakfast. Other than breakfast it's the usual 'something and chips' unimaginative menu. Clean and tidy, toilets across the road, disabled friendly and dogs welcome. What seriously needs attention is the staff, very slow at clearing and more interested in each other than the customers. I asked for black coffee with separate cold milk, which needed much explaining, then got black coffee with separate HOT milk. I had paid up and left and my table had still not been cleared. It's an OK spot but with a bit of effort could be the talk of the town
