Lovely staff, clean and relaxing area and very friendly staff. Fifteen of us had a 4 course Christmas dinner which was really good and we'll definately be returning with family.

Used to be a brilliant pub for food and atmosphere. Visited with mum and friend today. Now the worst food ive ever had!!! What a shocker food was not fit for my cat. Nachos arrived broken up with some awful squeezy cheese saw a few jalapenos and was simply disgusting. Told there was no tomato sauce or barbecue sauce. Fried chicken equally awful. Just about got the scampi ok. The only saving grace was the barmaid who was polite and helpful as an apology gave me the price of my food back.

I and my friends always enjoy the Vesper Gate lunchtime experience. The food is really delicious, excellent wine and the front-of-house staff are so friendly, warm and welcoming. Its outstanding feature is its garden with glorious views over wide open landscaped fields. Thank you very much!

Went for a drink with my partner. Glasses were dirty for our first drink. Asked the barman if he could give us clean Glasses for our second drinks he checked multiple Glasses and found 2 that were STILL dirty. He said that the Dishwasher was on the blink and they were getting a renovation and a new dishwasher soon. The toilets were disgusting (Female and Male). Most people have a bath before they go out for a drink. We had to get a bath when we got back home even though we were sat outside in the beer garden. The Vesper Gate used to be really nice. Whoever owns this establishment has let it go to the dogs. If they can't even poor a a drink into a clean glass. Heaven only knows what the kitchen is like. In fact last time we were there. The Head Chef went to the outhouse where the cold store is. He brought out sone Raw burgers. He used the same hand to shut the door of the outhouse as he then put the raw meat in. P.S DO NOT EAT THERE. OR USE THE TOILETS. If I could give zero stars I would.

This is the worst meal I have had out for years. Sat outside after cleaning the old bird droppings off the table. Had a mushroom and leek pie which was inedible. It tasted awful and the pie was a ‘biscuit’. £12.95 for chips and peas. If I hadn’t been on crutches I would have taken it back. Won’t be going back or recommending to anyone

Came for dinner on a quiet Friday evening, we ordered 3 small plates and 2 loaded fries, after around 40 minutes the guy behind the bar came and said he couldn’t find the squid so choose something different so we all ordered the crispy chilly beef, when it did arrive one bowl was full of big pieces of beef and the other 2 bowls were half full of small rock hard pieces that you couldn’t stick your fork into so we’re sent back, 3 minutes later some more beef were sent out to us which were as expected still frozen in the middle when bit into so had to complain again, then I was offered a dessert which after 20 minutes in an empty pub did not arrive so left hungry even the loaded fries were the worst I’ve had anywhere, I left feeling sick 🤢 AVOID

The most disgusting, dirtiest pub I have been in for a long time. Gents toilets out of order so used the disabled toilets. These toilets are so dirty, stained, dusty and unclean. Seating/dining area, carpets are not clean, window ledges dusty, tables sticky, seats or stained. Chef outside smoking his head off in chef whites. Kitchen door to beer garden wide open. Barmaid attitudes matches the cleanness of the pub. Too busy bad mouthing customers off. I honestly can not think of a good thing to say about the place.

Me & my sister called in here for Sunday lunch Today . The Food was Brilliant . all fresh Vegs, Thick slices of Meat ,Yorkshire Pudding & unlimited Gravy . Prices are reasonable for the size of meals they serve . Enjoyed every bite .

I haven’t eaten here for years and can I just say the food was incredible! We ordered 3 x small plates, that weren’t small at all (very generous portions). We had the chicken tenders with chicken gravy, OMG AMAZING! Nachos with chilli beef, which was slow cooked chilli beef brisket YUM! And fish goujons, the batter was absolutely perfect. Everything was freshly made from scratch, nothing out of a packet. The pics do not do it justice, apologies we ate most of it before I remembered to take pics!! 😂 The staff were super friendly. Don't know what has happened, but food not as good, very bland, soggy salad, ordered puddings, cheese cake with strawberries, chocolate fudge with custard as they didn't have vanilla ice cream, omg when cheese cake came out, it was a tiny wedge with sauce at side, I said um, weres strawberrys, guy said it strawberry sauce, I said I know, but said on menu strawberrys, oh we didn't have strawberrys, mum wasn't impressed at all, he said what can I do, so I said could I have fudge cake and creme as well, which he went and got us one, which was a lot better, but unfortunately won't be coming back here again for a meal x

It's a while since we went here, ( since giving up my car), but we took our daughter & her partner there, last week. We all chose from a comprehensive menu, and as usual I opted for the chicken n' leek pie. Short pastry and more than simply scrumptious. All agreed that their choices were equally satisfying. And the plates couldn't have been more full. As usual, the area is spotless clean. And whilst the weather holds, a great outdoors seating area. ( Even a DJ providing the music for entertainment.)

Why Oh why do former drinkers pubs who decide to turn into resturants fail so badly. The interior is very nice and well presented However the food is not of an acceptable standard level, If only they put a bit more effort into the quality and presntation the food this would be gem of a business

Sunday was our first visit to this pub. Firstly it is set within a beautiful setting right next door to Kirkstall Abbey with lovely walks. The pub is very traditional, spotlessly clean with welcoming, friendly staff and an outdoor beer gardens next to an open field with plenty of room for a game of football, rounders or cricket. I was mostly impressed with the meals, we had tradition Sunday dinner which was delicious, served with roast potatoes, just like my mother used to make!! Already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you to Sharon all the staff.

Sin embargo, me reuní con algunos miembros de la familia hoy en Vesper Gate y decidí comer allí, y estoy muy contento de haberlo hecho. El nuevo menú tiene una buena selección de comida y todo cocinado fresco para arrancar. Tuve la hamburguesa sureña de pollo frito que era para morirse y el resto de mi familia no podía dejar de hablar de lo bien que estaban las comidas. el personal del bar era muy amable y acogedor y se desvivió para asegurarse de que tuviéramos todo lo que necesitábamos. Recomendaré este pub a mis amigos a partir de ahora. Estoy tan contenta de haber regresado. Sigan con el buen trabajo.

Mientras visitábamos a nuestro hijo en Leeds, nos decidimos por un pub que habíamos visitado unos años atrás. No nos decepcionó. El servicio fue amable, rápido y la comida era una buena relación calidad-precio. Como con la mayoría de los lugares para comer, los artículos más caros son las bebidas. El pub obviamente está construido en el sitio de Kirkstall Abbey y tiene algunos aspectos interesantes.

Called in for Sunday lunch just before Christmas. Ordered roast dinner. Was really nice, hot & tasty just not enough. 2 small slices of meat & small portions of veg. Did feed back to management & they promised to put a bit more on next time. I will definitely be going back & hold them to their word. Other things ordered were steak & kids fish & chips. All very nice.

Posiblemente el peor almuerzo de domingo que hemos tenido. Esperé bastante tiempo para que llegara la comida y cuando lo hizo, la porción era ridícula. 1 rebanada miserable de carne de res, 1 papa asada, una cucharada de puré, un budín de Yorkshire que no sabía bien y un poco de verduras cocidas. No solo eso, todo estaba más seco que el desierto del Sahara, apenas podía masticar la carne. Seguimos enviando bits de regreso ya que hacía frío o faltaban piezas. Comimos lo que hicimos porque teníamos mucha hambre. Algunos de nuestros pedidos también se perdieron y tardó mucho en salir y mi amigo recibió un postre gratis por el error, lo cual fue bueno. El personal lo lamentaba, pero cuando me fui a buscar comida de Morrison, ya que todavía teníamos hambre, vi a uno de los empleados hablando con un cliente, al instante se calló y miró hacia otro lado cuando me vio. Supongo que ella estaba "hablando" de nosotros.Realmente pobre y es una pena, ya que es uno de nuestros pubs locales. Las hamburguesas sin embargo, se veían bien.

Visited the Vesper with my family after being out of the area for a while. Things definitely seemed to have changed since I was last in. Food was lovely with a good choice and reasonable prices, atmosphere was great with lovely helpful staff. Will definitely be coming back.

Went to this pub last night (15 May 2019) with several members of my family including my 6 week old grandson. The Leeds United match had just started and there were people watching the game in the side room. We asked for menus and were told we couldn't currently order food because they were "busy due to the football been on" We sat down and had a drink and waited for food orders to resume. In the meantime several other people ordered food and were served but we didn't make a fuss as we were unsure of how long they had been in the pub. We were then told after a very long wait that food could be ordered for the next 10 mins. We went to the bar to order but was again told there was no more food orders been taken. We then realised that several large plates of food were been carried into the other room where the football was on. This we were told was apparently a FREE buffet been served to people watching football. At this point I was losing my patience with the rude and uncooperative staff who were constantly telling us mixed messages.

My 2 daughters and I had a lovely meal here. We’re all strict vegetarians and there was plenty of choice for us. I had the veggie burger and it was so tasty and flavoursome, had bread & butter pudding after which was just yummy.

We booked a table for 5 people at 7pm. We ordered our meals and was told that it could take up to 45 minutes because a table of 8 had just ordered. Okay, what could we do but wait. The food arrived 45 mins later. I'd ordered the half chicken and chips. The chicken was dry and I could only manage half of it. My wife ordered the rump steak( medium) and chicken breast. The steak was well done and dry and the chicken breast was dry. The other members of our group had meals that were easier to cool and managed to eat them. We were told that the pub had a new menu, that's why we chose it. But what it needs is a new cook who can cook steak and chicken so that they are moist and edible.

El mío era un combo de bistec y pollo y mi marido tenía medio pollo y papas fritas. Se suponía que mi filete era mediano, pero estaba bien hecho y el pollo estaba demasiado cocido. Revisé el menú en la página web y sonaba genial. Por desgracia, el menú era totalmente diferente cuando llegamos! ! No hay entrantes y platos limitados. Pedimos pescado y patatas fritas que estaban bien. El servicio era bueno en el bar y el personal amable. Los inodoros no están bien, no hay papel higiénico y secador de manos no funciona! Lo siento pero no volveremos.

This used to be such a good grub pub, with good menu and food. Recently visited for sunday lunch, first time in over a year. The almost-empty car park was a bit of a clue, and it wasn't long to see why. The 'new' menu isnt very good, we all opted for Sunday lunch. It didn't take long, due to it not being busy. The food was, however, mediocre, and not generous in size. Whether new owners/managers in place I don't know, but as others have said, it ain't as good as it used to be.

The Sunday roast had added extras of dog hair . Asked of I would like another dinner said no only to get a refund for my meal no complimentary drink offered and a very reluctant apology

I remember Vesper Gate to be really thriving, with simple but good quality pub grub with plenty of choice to choose from, and prices that were reasonable. Arranged to meet friends there on Monday (27th) bank holiday, and promised them good, reasonably priced food. Assumed it would be packed being a bank holiday, arrived to an almost empty pub! New menu, that is clearly trying to be more up market but just comes across as pretentious. We immediately thought let's have a drink and then leave to eat somewhere else, but decided we would give it a chance. So here's some things to bare in mind of you are considering going here:

My husband and I went for a meal with our family there were nine of us we ordered our meals we were told we would have to wait as there were only one chef on by the time we got our food it was cold and dried up the onion rings looked very old ones when our desert came mine had a big hair in it I sent it back all I got was a Laim sorry we will never go back there for a meal again

Went for the bbq In the holidays, we regularly visit with children. Lovely atmosphere, great music, nice food.

Visit here often, the place is always clean, tidy and the service is always great. Staff will always go the extra mile to make you experience better even when faced with busy periods. Phill and Ian the managers have transformed the place since last year and are doing a fabulous job. The menu is varied and has something to suit everyone and the atmosphere is always enjoyable. A great place to socialise or just to have a bite to eat! 100% recommend!

Came for pie night had Ham, chicken and leak pie a bottle of wine for £7.95 was delicious. The staff was so polite and helpful would definitely recommend and I’ll be returning very soon 🙂 Fantastic pub!!!

My partner has just made me come down to the vesper and eat. I was reluctant but I am so glad I did. Brand new menu and lots to choose from. Just had mushroom starter followed by the lamb shank. Partner had a mixed pork starter and a burger. Little one had a burger. Absolutely stunning! So much meat extremely tasty and I am very satisfied. Well done vesper. Lovely new menu! Very please and satisfied. 5☆☆☆☆☆ and it takes a lot for me to say that!!!

WARNING!! Never ever eat here. Spend your hard earned money somewhere else. The food is the worst we have ever eaten. The prices they charge for simple food is daylight robbery. Food hygiene need to visit this place quickly before someone becomes seriously ill. Miltonpubs need serious action against. No where to contact about appalling service either. Nothing more to say othere than new management required.

Visited the vesper today for food and drinks. Ordered a seemingly simple bbq chicken and cheese melt. The meal came with an almost rotten side salad - brown lettuce, shrivelled cucumber, anemic looking chicken and a stale ciabatta bun. The service was poor and the food took a long time to arrive.

Excellent food . Really tasty . Staff are really polite . Great atmosphere. Staff are always cheerful and are really helpful . 100% recommended you go.

Came here for some good food after a walk in the abbey. The cheese Mac looked and tasted very sad, my partner's mix grill was poor quality meat and mostly burnt despite asking for the steak to be medium rare. Felt very short changed for the 30 odd quid it cost with 2 drinks. On clearing our plates away which showed our lack of appetite by the plates we were asked bluntly "have you done?" And we left, not to be returning anytime soon. Shame as this used to be a great little place.

New menu since last visit. Weeks after last visit they still manage to be sold out of some items on menu. Took the order then we're told another item was sold out. SIMPLE CHEAP PUB MEAL WANTED WITHOUT HASSLE!

Visiting our son who is at University, and we asked him to take us to a pub that did nice food.

Appears this pub has changed hands recently. Previous visits as a family have been really enjoyable. Went yesterday. Oh dear, what a disappointment! Half the menu was unavailable and when the food arrived there wasn't a vegetable or lettuce leaf in sight. Won't be going again.

I’ve been visiting this pub for the last year and the staff are absolutely brilliant! The food is excellent and so is the service. Would highly recommend it to anybody.

I visited this pub on the Saturday of May bank holiday. The weather was amazing so a lot of people were expected, we knew this before we arrived that the pub was bound to be busy with the great outside seating they have. Me and my partner came here to find the pub very busy, however the service provided was still fantastic. We both ordered food even though we knew it would probably have a wait, which most pubs do when they are busy. Our food came out quickly and was well presented, also the new menu is lovely with many options we were both very happy with. The food that came to us was well cooked and tasted delicious. Staff are always friendly and welcoming, we visit regularly and are always pleased with the service, never disappointed. Overall great pub that runs lovely even when it’s very busy. Would definitely recommend.

What a disappointment, this pub was always lively with a great atmosphere. The first thing we noticed in the dining area were the torn, shabby seats. We chose a table close to the window which had a chair with a stained seat cover.

Very attentive staff . And a vast drink collection especially my favourite wich is gin and served to perfection so many to choose from wich is great will Deffo be back

Me and partner visited here a few weeks ago, we fancied a drink in the beer garden and decided we would get food afterwards. We had a pint outside and then went inside and my partner went to the bar to order food, only to be told the chef had decided he wasn't taking anymore food orders- it was a Saturday afternoon, the pub was not busy- his reason for closing the kitchen was that there were 2 tables, probably about 10-12 people in total, who had booked a table and the kitchen couldn't cope with more food orders than this, despite having the capacity for many more diners. I went to the manager to ask how long the kitchen would be shut for- he went into the kitchen and I heard the chef abruptly tell the manager how things would be, and the manager backed down and allowed his chef to make the decision to close the kitchen. Having now read the reviews of those who have managed to get food, it was probably a blessing in disguise. Those who did get food whilst we were there swiftly called management to complain.

We should have known when we walked into an almost empty pub that serves food at 1pm on a Sunday that there was something wrong. The upholstery on some of the seats was ripped to shreds we went to sit in a booth but quickly moved to another table. We ordered and then waited the best part of an hour for our food to arrive. When it did it was embarrassing - stale burger buns, burnt burgers, chips fried to death... a few more minutes wait and the roast beef Sunday dinner arrived. Rock hard frozen roast potatoes, washed out frozen veg, boil in the bag beef - we complained and left. In fairness the man I complained to was great and refunded us then gave my little boy a free ice lolly which was a nice touch. Credit to him because I got the feeling he was trying to manage in some difficult circumstances.

We visit the Vesper Gate on a regular basis for food and drinks never had any issue with the food or the service sometime we go as a couple and sometimes we take our dog with us. if we take the dog and decide to eat we eat in the taproom as we would never take the dog into the lounge room were people are eating with there family and friends. We think that this is a very nice gesture by the landlords as quite a few pubs are banning dogs. we all ways receive a warm welcome from all of the staff and most of the customers take time out to pet the dog ( which she loves ) I have noticed other reviews about dogs it would be a real shame if dogs were banned altogether although I do believe that all dogs should be kept on a lead at all times.

Like children I think well behaved dogs do no harm in pubs. I regularly visit the Vesper Gate sometimes with children in tow and sometimes with a dog and can honestl say neither have been a problem to other visitors. I would rather sit outside with both however the Engllish weather does not always allow this. I say to the person who doesn't want kids and dogs in the pub either go somewhere else or live and let live.

We visited the Vesper Gate yesterday (good friday) myself and friends along with our children where at the Abbey visiting...

We only visit the Vesper for a drink as the reports about the food are really dire but having said that still feel that if I did decide to eat here that there would not be dogs present when food is being served on our last visit a couple sat nearby had a large dog who was shedding hair all over and also did not smell very nice at all. Dog biscuits on the bar are really off putting dogs used to be banned and feel this ban should be brought back in food and animals do not mix at all and there is a garden to take your dog to.Also another point at one time children were not allowed in the "tap room" area and feel this should be enforced again there is a huge area with things for children to do in the other side of the building and feel that one small area should be left for adults only to have a drink the total lack of control by management shows in so many areas in the Vesper Public House,poor food,dirty tables, animals etc.etc. I could go on but that will not help if the managers in the property do not notice these problems and try to sort them out will never ever get back to the good years if nobody takes control.

Myself and my partner visited on a Friday lunchtime.

I booked a party of 17 for a family gathering. Upon arriving they had not prepared the table for us. Not sure if they were even expecting us. The staff quickly sorted the table after asking another family to move.

I like having a cooked breakfast here and find the staff friendly and helpful. I prefer daytime to the evening, the taproom side is a bit sweary and intimidating from teatime onwards (younger men wanting to prove how hard they are).

My previous review on the Vesper Gate has been removed, by the request of Vesper Gate Why ? Was it so close to the truth ?

The vesper gate has welcoming and friendly staff. Our meal was delicious, we weren’t waiting long at all which is good when you little ones. We will definitely be back soon

We have when in Leeds often called into this pub. Big mistake this time. The roast dinner is served with tasteless washed out vegetables. If my wife had not been so hungry ( fine tolerance of having to eat something) the food would have been sent back immediately. My mixed grill meat came a little dry as though it had been cooked a little too long. When we told the manager about the poor roast all he said was he would tell the cook. This cook needs more than telling if he cannot cook vegetables he deserves sacking! As for the manager virtually every other manager we have talk to about poor fookd would have done something else apart from telling the cook how poor his food was. Will we ever return to Vesper Gate. NO.NO NO

Avoid!!!! Visited at 4pm with my 9 year old and had to leave after 5 mins. The language from some of the regulars was appalling!!! No regard for anyone else, very aggressive and not a pleasant atmosphere. The staff were oblivious to it all. Will not be going back. Should be a family pub/restaurant but to hear language like that is shocking

This pub has a long way to go before we would return.The food was very bad and burnt.many people were complaining.Also the manger was not looking after the customers as there were some drunk people there swearing and making it uncomfortable for all but she did nothing. Will be a long time before we return

We've visied before and arrived with expectations of a tasty, good value for money meal. We were disappointed from the start on being advised that our food would take 45 minutes. As we had a coupls of kids with us, we decided to stay and order. Several items we ordered were already not available (we arrived at 6pm!) Having been advised that nachos were not avaialble, we were offered the (twice the price) veggie sharing platter. On arrival this comprised 50% (overcooked) nachos!

The pub has recently been taken over so we thought we would give it a try. We were disappointed with the quality of food, the sausages and mash seemed over heated dry and hard on edges. No mince in the mince and onion pie. The service, although friendly, was slow when coming to serving food considering it was not busy at all.

We go here and little for food. Great menu choices and reasonable prices. Good selection of drinks. Always friendly with prompt service. Parking and outdoor area. Close to Abbey.

Food okay well cooked had to wait quite a while it's trying to be to much without the correct amount of staff would not recommend if you are in a bit of a hurry in peak times for food

Went today for a family lunch and was disappointed with the food have never had a bad meal from them and today was shocking. Burnt chicken cold chips never coming back now after that. Told manager and she said, "so what do you want me to do about it ". Horrible staff and way they speak to you.

Have been a regular at this pub for a few years now but since the new landlady has taken over it has deteriorated quality of beer has deteriorated very bad service under staffed and atmosphere has gone completely

Came with my family on a Saturday, it was quiet with very few other people ordering food and we were told there a 30 minute wait which to be honest I didn't think was too bad.However the food came nearly an hour later with no apology for the delay. As a vegetarian I ordered the battered halloumi and chips which was ok but a bit cold and even though I have far from a big appetite but the portion was very small. My Mum's fishcakes were overcooked and the salad it was served with was predominantly limp salad leaves and raw peppers. The rest of family said theirs was ok but again portion size small. I've been to other sizzling pubs and always enjoyed the food and value for money but the Vesper Gate seriously lets the chain down. Won't be visiting again

This is normally our favourite sizzler, but no more, wont be back, we decided to bring our family who had come from Canada,told them how lovely food is, they ordered steak, it was burnt and over cooked, didn't come with onions has they didn't have any, this was a Monday lunchtime, we did visit a few days before , but didn't serve food as ovens were down , some one else in the group ordered scampi n chips scampi was luke warm and chips were cold, some one else ordered a salad and it came on a warm plate, overall this was a disappointment , such a shame , as we visited this pub quite a lot...so now found another pub,

My wife and I had been to watch Yorkshire CCC at Headingley and we thought we would try this Sizzling Pub which is fairly near to the cricket ground. We looked at menu which offers a large amount of different eats, decided on burgers and I went to the counter to order. In fairness, despite the restaurant was not full, we were told it could be 40 minutes to be served. We were not alone another foursome opposite were waiting when we sat down and another couple were just two minutes behind us. He was slightly out with his timely warning to me, it was 50 minutes before the meals were served. We were by now very hungry and in fairness to them we enjoyed the meal but not the wait and we did not order a sweet as we did not wish to sit there another 50 minutes.John Hardy

We have gone to the Vesper on several occasions and the food is never consistent - it can range from great to shocking depending on who the chef is. We visited yesterday and chose the 10oz Rump steak cooked medium and the Ultimate Catch - The steak arrived and it was frankly burnt - not even well done - it was burnt. We requested for this to be returned and cooked 'medium' as initially ordered. This was done without any fuss, however the highlight of the meal was when the waitress brought out Peppercorn Sauce for the steak as the old one was been returned i picked the jug up to look at it and it felt very cold - I put my fork into it to taste the temperature. It was hard in the middle. When I lifted the fork out it showed a big frozen clump of Peppercorn Sauce that had clearly been heated - but not enough.I raised this with the waiter who clearly felt let down by the food. It was clear when the new food came out it was the same jug just heated more thoroughly which isn't ideal after we witnessed the waiter put his finger in it. I find it quite frustrating paying £10.00 for a steak and been provided frozen peppercorn sauce on the side. We got offered a free drink which we accepted in hindsight I wish we would of asked for the money back and gone elsewhere. I think this will be the last time we visit this pub for food.

We haven't been here in nearly a year but it didn't disappoint whatsoever. My husband ordered steak and ale pie , and l ordered the gammon. This was two meals for £8.50 we were very happy with our choices they were ample enough and were absolutely delicious , couldn't fault them and both piping hot. We were quite full even though this is my hungriest time of day, so we opted for the key lime pie, not sure if it was home made or not but again so tasty and very zesty with the lime and spray cream and chocolate sauce , will certainly be returning. The young lady behind the bar was very friendly whilst serving us our food. Keep up the good work it certainly shows from a customers point. Well done.

We used to eat at this pub alot and always loved the food and atmosphere but our last few visits have been terrible.Always told food will be an.hour even though its empty and when it comes its really bad quality.The burgers are pathetic with about 6 chips on the plate.No atmosphere at all and staff just dont seem interested.Such a shame but we wont be going back anytime soon.

WE went on Sunday the food was so lovely we will be going back .The staff was very helpful and pleasant .we really enjoyed our meal .I had the half chicken with Jack Daniels sauce it was mouth watering ,my husband had the hunters chicken he enjoyed it very much .glad to say there was no television where we ate .Compliments to the chef
