We were staying at the hotel attached so tried eating here on first night. We queued for nearly 10 mins to get a drink and order our food. When eventually our food came the starters came with the main meal and i had asked for sweet potato fries instead of normal. I received both. When the receipt was checked they had charged me for the extra portion but the queues were too much to go back to bar. also the food we had received was not good, I didnt eat my ribs not sure if they were cooked properly. While we were there we saw many people send their food back and lots and lots of people complaining about the wait. Also they had a man singing and out table was right in front of him and we were unable to have a conversation due to the volume. When the food

We joined the Village gym and received a couple of vouchers to use in the pub and the grill. Hence our visit. So, how would you describe the Verve Grill. Well, not the best of first impressions as two of the diner’s children were running around throwing bottles of water at each other. Staff were about, so I would presume allowing such behaviour is the norm for the place. Overall, the dining area is very gloomy (despite spot lights glaring in your face), very tired and needs investment. Chairs are grubby and frayed and the varnish has just about been scrubbed of the tables. Whilst we were eating our starters the mains arrived. The waitress (and apparently the kitchen), did not seem to understand the concept that second course did not arrive until the first course has been finished and cleared (rocket science I suppose). Despite the rush to serve the main course, it was very disappointing and mostly went into a doggy bag. Considering the surroundings and service, the food was expensive for what you got. Although there is one voucher left, I do not think it will be used here.

Went for a meal never been before. Mushrooms to start were a tiny portion but nice. Mains were vile, ribs were rock hard and had been cooked and reheated more than once. Sirloin steak was the consistency of a leather shoe. Would not cut even with a steak knife and priced at over £20. Very cheap cuts of meat poorly prepared and cooked and completely overpriced. Shame on the chef for allowing those meals out of the kitchen. The absolutely only redeeming feature of this place was the staff, friendly and attentive. F&B Manager needs urgent lessons in fresh food provision for a 'grill'.

I was there for two days and thought dinner at the Verve grill would be nice but boy was I wrong. The tuna capriccio came out and looked lovely the outer prices of tuna were nice and cool but the overlapping slices of tuna were still frozen after taking a bite I felt like being sick. The steak I ordered was meant to be medium-rare but came out almost well done and having to ask twice for a glass of coke was a major pain. Overall not a good experience and I would instead recommend the pub attached to the hotel.

To finish, try the excellent sticky toffee pudding, or the extravagant pina colada sundae.

As we were staying the hotel we decided to eat in the restaurant inside the hotel especially as they accept Tastecard. My husband and I both ordered the Fritto Misto for our starter and they were cooked perfectly, calamari can often be overcooked but this wasn't. The accompanying tempura courgette and red pepper were also really enjoyable. We also ordered the hot and sticky ribs as an additional extra. The ribs were to die for. Very meaty and full of flavour. My husband picked his up first and held one end by the meat and the other by the bone and the meat just fell off. For our mains I ordered the Moules Frittes and my husband ordered the Pan Seared Cod. The only difference between the two dishes was that I had chips with mine and my husband had a cod fillet on top of his. I was a bit surprised to be honest the mussels I received aren't what I would normally consider to be moules frittes as it also contained new potatoes. The meal wasn't unpleasant just not what I was expecting and was left a little disappointed. The food was well cooked though. We also received excellent service and when an issue arose with our Tastecard we dealt with with ease and felt the staff couldn't have done any more for us. I would certainly go back.

My husband and I ate here for an evening meal. We both had mussels in a garlic broth with tomato and chorizo for our starter. It was lovely. For the main course my husband had the seared tuna steak with a side of salad (we are both on a low carb diet so fries etc are out). I had Black Pepper Crusted Fillet Steak in an Asian broth with bok choi, Chinese cabbage, chillies and spring onion, also with a side salad. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and found the staff to be friendly and helpful.Having eaten at various Village hotels, I have to say that the meals have always been lovely. However, Breakfast, although mainly quite good, always has awful sausages that are obviously cooked in the microwave. It is disappointing.

Five stars for the excellent staff in this pleasant and comfortable restaurant. Always helpful and courteous, they try their very best and work very hard. The food is nicely prepared and presented and not overpriced. This is not a Michelin starred affair, but the quality is by no means means poor and I do feel that some of the critical reviews are very harsh. In a constructive vein, I would only say that the kitchen could occasionally be a little more flexible in meeting individual requests and I think it was a mistake to drop the cheese option from the latest menu.

Christmas Day ruined. My family booked Christmas dinner at this place. @ £45 per head we did not expect the world but the dinner they gave to at least a 100 people was nothing short of robbery.A slice of Turkey 2 frozen roast potatoes 3 carrots still covered in soil and 3 raw sprouts. When I asked the manager why the potions were so small he told me that it was company policy. When people travel the length of the country to be together we did expect to be given a decent meal not to be robbed because it's this company policy. There were 11 of us paying £495. Never again.

We have visited the verve grill on many occasions in the past but I would say that this visit was one of the best. There were four of us when we visited on this occasion. The menu is quite conservative but with some interesting twists. The prices are a bit high especially for any steak dish’s but the other dish’s quite reasonably priced. Two of the party ordered the roast Pollock, one with a Specially made tomato based sauce and one with the regular tartare sauce. The other two meals were the barnsley chopand the chicken swag makhauni. The meals arrived after a little while as they were very busy, they were all nicely presented and all tasted very nice apart from the barnsley chop which unfortunately did not have a lot of meat on it. The saag makhauni (curry) was particularly nice.We then followed that with a selection of sweets comprising of the lemon tart, chocolate orange tart and the Irish cream chocolate cheesecake, these were all very nice.We will be visiting again!!

pleasant restaurant with satisfactory service. the set meal had a choice of 4 starters, 4 mains and 4 deserts. We had for starters - mozarella garlic bread and hoison duck spring rolls.- gralic bread was huge and very tasty. Spring rolls were extremely tasty but limited to just 2 so went very quickly !. For main we had pork cheek and chicken breast - the pork cheek was lovely so tender was like beef!. The chicken was just a normal chicken breast served with garlic butter and green beans - I had to pay extra for some sweet potato chips and salad. Very tasty though. For desert we had sticky toffee pudding and choclate parfait - both very tasty. The wine was £16 for a bottle of house red and if you ask they serve a jug of chilled water with the meal. All in all, for the deal we got of £69 for a 3 course meal, B and B - very good value (did not include wine). If I was looking for a restaurant by itself for a special occasion - don't think I would choose here though. It's great for being attached to the hotel but lacks intimacy and the special service that one would expect from a restaurant in for example a city centre that you would choose for a birthday, etc. If using the hotel I would recommend.

We stayed for the couples weekend, evening meal, bed and breakfast. The food was the worst ever had. Lumpy cold mash with scrawny chicken leg on top, three cloves of garlic sadly placed on the side of plate at an attempt to garnish?!! My husband had a shiny!! bun, it looked synthetic with a luke warm burger slapped in the middle. Dessert was a chocolate pud microwaved to an inch of it's life, cremated and taste burnt, of which I left and shrouded with my napkin (very fitting I thought). My husband had eton mess which he described as a dish with squirty cream and very little else. The man opposite complained of soggy fish in batter, staff on the whole were not overly enthusiastic, get warmer welcome if dining in local pubs. The restaurant was cold and lacked atmosphere. The tables looked grubby and the chair was stained.Thought I was in a motorway cafe, 1980's style. (no offence to motorway cafes) Wine was nice, which should be at £23 a bottle. Room was nice and comfortable, breakfast?, I wanted make a break for it home but my husband said we should give it a go. The waitress airely waved her hand and rattled off where everything was, I just had to see where she was pointing to and so I got the gist. Despite discarded chips on the floor from previous night (they weren't ours) the breakfast was surprisingly good with everything full English should be + more, crossiants etc So why such awful food the night before, has this hotel changed hands. We ate there at a function years ago and the room seated row upon row of tables and everyone was fed and it was really good food. We won't be returning or recommending. Dine at your peril.
