What a absolute dirty place, toilets are all broken, electric wires stuck up with sellotape, air conditioning didn't work, bar staff was more interested in disappearing all the time, watered down drinks, very strong smell of drugs being smoked on the top floor, and manager has a very bad attitude, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone

Popped back in after a year even more of a dump. Didn’t think that was possible ! Toilets are rotten, glasses the drinks come in are dirty. Can’t the manager even just spend an hour & paint the loo’s, get rid of the broken sanitary bits…. Lazy

would not bother going .we used to go here regular.get rid of the dj.have background music .at least the you might get a few more people in there.the place is way to small.for a dj and the music,so loud you have to shout at each other,to talk.no atmosphere at all..

Booked an afternoon tea for 15 guests @ £15.95 each. Despite website saying £13.95. Deposit was paid and no confirmation received until I sent a chaser email asking for confirmation. Arrived at the venue and escorted to the function room. No table linen, dirty cutlery, cups and saucers laid out on wobbly tables . Walls' carpet and windows looked filthy. Everything was dusty down to the tea and coffee pots that we had to dispense our drinks from. Bar staff was rude. Refused to take payment for each person separately. I said Fine and paid on my card. The card machine ran out of receipt and decline the payment and the lady at the bar said loudly infront of all our guest if I would check my bank to see if I had the money.?? I said its available so no idea why declined and she kept saying it was my card not the machine. She changed the receipt and low and behold the payment went through. By this time I was already made to feel humilated infront of the guest the experience was spoilt. Put on a smile and carried on but the experience got worse. She sat on her phone in a corner and had to be asked to serve the tea and coffee to the guest several times. When guest tried to order drinks she moaned at them saying it ain't table service come to the bar. When they went up the bar was told all the drinks had to be paid one 1 bill and one 1 card no separate transactions...just a nightmare. The 'afternoon tea' use that term loosely was bought to the table ...15 guest . 4 platters of food. Everything was cheap shop bought. The sandwich fillings were slap dash thrown together and shoved on the plate. Bread toppers was used on the sandwiches. Like WTF? literally gobsmacked. Guests went home hungry..thirsty and felt completely robbed. We cleaned the tables ourself.We paid for a service that we didn't receive. It wasn't a venue hire. This was an afternoon tea... splap dash to say the least and guests went as far as to say they will be leaving a review to warn others of this nightmare. I will be honest and say we didn't complain to them directly. Reading the other reviews I don't think it will get us anywhere anyway. Not sure if it is in new ownership but wasn't the venue I once knew. Alot of talk about the toilets and people are not wrong. Dirty...no toilet roll dispensers worked so bog roll all over the floor ...there was nobody in the venue but us..and we was the first ones in venue so obvispuly hadnt been cleaned from night before...porbably longer. More fool me for booking without reading the reviews because every bad review echos our awful experince.

Went for afternoon tea for a baby shower, coffee was like mud then tea came up with no clean cups sandwiches and cakes were poor. Place was filthy carpets disgusting and staff were so rude left all the dirty cups and glasses on the table we had to clear ourselves to eat our sandwiches and cakes that were probably out of a packet from a corner shop. To top it all the toilets were disgusting only one flushed. I wouldn’t recommend this venue for a private function very disappointing.

In need of a major revamp. Furniture & decor is disgusting. The toilets are just plain rank & the drinks are flat with dirty old glasses. Not for any of us again

I came here for an afternoon baby shower. The room was dirty, with tatty old Christmas decorations ( in March) and hanging down fairy lights at the window. The room was set up wrong for the buffet ordered, and full of general “tat” which we asked to be removed. We spent the first hour trying to make the filthy room look presentable with our own decorations and table cloth etc The ladies toilets looked as though they had been smashed up by vandals and became blocked in the middle of the party, although the blockage was cleared quickly. The buffet was all “ bought in” ie packet cakes and scones and a supermarket dip tray with packs of ready vegetables. There was minimal provision for the vegetarians, and I was told “everything is vegetarian” by the “ supervisor” when I could clearly see chicken in the rolls and lots of different meat in the buffet. The “ supervisor” obviously had minimal interest in serving us, spending most of the time on his phone. My only positive comment is that we were not charged the balance for the room hire, by way of compensation.

We arrived and as soon as we walked in we felt it to be so cold in there. It was -2 outside, so we expected it to be a bit warmer indoors. The staff had a heater behind the bar & there seemed to be no heating on in the place! We ordered our drinks , cocktails 2for1 Pornstar £10 for 2 for 1 Prosecco is on tap not from a bottle. I had Kia royal which was flat. Staff we nice, I actually felt sorry for them they had to work in these conditions.. We were unable to take our coats off even after an hour of being there. We had planned to meet other friends here, but decided not to and move on. When we left, the place had emptied out quite a bit since we arrived.

When we arrive to the venue the floored hadn’t been cleaned from the event before as their the hoover had broken. There was food and confetti everywhere. I was told they had cleaned up before we arrived. After I complained after sweeping the floor myself they finally found a hoover to clean up. Why would feel that its acceptable to leave the place in a mess Why was we only given their house spirits. When the bar below had stocked all the branded spirits. Only after asking they provided the branded spirits. 2 out of the 4 toilets weren’t working when the toilets were being used for 2 events. Would avoid booking for an event not worth the money

Don’t be deceived by the pics they advertise with because it’s nothing at all like it in reality it was absolutly filthy, hired the hall for 5 hours and had to clean the tables and hoover the before we even started to organise my party. Everything was dirty even the glasses and the toilets OMG!! Least said about them the better… Most of the chairs are torn-and soon as our time was up they let the next lot of people in while we was still eating how rude….do yourself a big favour and go somewhere else-Cleaner and Friendlier

The comments made by the door man and manager were vile. If you are a woman I would seriously avoid this place. With all the media surrounding abuse from men I am shocked this was allowed to happen. I was having a lovely night with my work colleagues. Then I was waiting for my friend to finish her drink. The doorman asked us to leave making the comment ‘I’m asking you to leave first because you are women. The men can have extra drinking time.’ Clearly looking for a reaction. I asked for the manager. I was told he was busy. I had noticed a man locking doors so I asked if he was the manager and he said he used to be. He then made comments with the door man about women’s vaginas and how we just need to get banged harder! Other men in the bar thought this was hilarious and joined in. I can’t even believe this was allowed to happen. I feel sick!!!

Toilets were all blocked, place was dirty and run down, tables were dirty and drinks had bits floating in which bar staff said were from the spirit measures not being cleaned! DJ was good though but unfortunately we were on the top floor so couldn’t hear it Shame as this used to be the place to go but I don’t think I’ll be rushing back anytime soon

There were two gentlemen, one was security and the other appeared to be a senior member of staff, they seemed to take great pleasure in militantly enforcing COVID rules even when we were standing outside the premises. Despite their eagerness to conform with COVID rules they never felt it was necessary for any of their staff to wear a mask even when serving food and drinks. Their manner was rude and disrespectful. The exception was Becky who was very pleasant and attended to our needs when required.

Starter was 1/2 piece of pitta bread each, main course was so small and to be fair kids sized and desert was a cupcake. Charge was £40 for this bottomless lunch. Credit where it's due, the young waiter was very nice and so was the lady who served us. Photo is the main course menu we received! Literally worst lunch ever and to top it off , they run out of Prosecco

My sisters hosted a baby shower for me last Saturday. The theme was afternoon tea for the “brewing baby”. What a perfect afternoon! We were in the middle level restaurant , a large space (adequate for a party of 25) with a bar and beautiful natural lighting. The afternoon tea itself was fresh and plentiful - sandwiches, scones, cakes and pastries with tea and coffee. They also catered for one of the guests’ vegan dietary requirements. We didn’t feel rushed and the management team was helpful without being intrusive - Apparently they allowed access beforehand for setting up. We had an enjoyable afternoon. Highly recommend.

Amazing party at Vertigo Lounge. The venue staff could not do enough for us. We had large props for a 1920s theme and they helped unload and also load them back the next day. Sam especially was a delight.

Had the least original pornstar martini ever tasted awful.... and yet it cost £9 the cheap Wetherspoons jug version tastes better seriously!! I have never heard of orange juice being used before I thought it was supposed to be passion fruit, and my friends cocktails tasted just as rank, one just tasted like the cola you get in calypso cup drinks and the other like calypsos blue raspberry so a bit tasteless all round.... will not visit again

We went here for a function last weekend, the party was great and so were the staff serving. The downside was obvious, there was only toilets on the second floor where the party was based. we also had access to the third floor and balcony. The problem was people coming up from the ground floor drunk supposedly to go to the toilet but not going back down again. There were a number of people moving around on the third and second floor who should not have been there, mostly having had to much to drink. Also the toilets were in avery poor state, not nice at all.

Hired the second floor for my friends baby shower. All staff were very helpful and was happy to help throughout the day. Was easy to organised with the staff running up to the event.Improvements needed: venue 100% needs a makeover. The carpet is coming up and looking very old. I would suggest it needs updating. Also, we was extremely rushed when it was time for us to pack up. It was hard to pack all the things quick enough.

A group of friends went Saturday. The place is on a busy road & there is no parking out front, but there are car parks near by if needing one.On arriving we see the cocktails are 2for1 .. 6 TIL 9 Lovely for our pre drinks. The place is on levels, but we were on the ground level. The place is a lot smaller than it looks from outside & mirrors inside gives the feel of it being bigger .. We ordered our drinks & they were made & bought over to our table. Staff were nice & friendly. I used the loo which looked like it needs a re fit, it was not very clean & very tatty, skirting hanging off all very grubby & I think the place itself needs some TLC. Lights were dimmed during our time there which did make the place look better. But I would hate to think what the kitchen is like if front of house is in need of some work done!We enjoyed our cocktails.

I booked this venue for my friends 70th birthday party the place was not very clean ,the toilets ladies and gents had no toilets seats when we ask if this could be rectified the owner a arrogant man was waiting for us to arrive then had the gall to tell us he was canceling our party and would refund our money we told him this was impossible as we had people who had travelled a long way some had booked into local hotels ,we went ahead with the party then during the evening they started to run out of some of the beers ,on top of that they supplied the buffet but guess what no table cloths this venue is over 3 floors 1 set of toilets yes you guessed it on our floor so our private party was plauged with strangers coming from the down stairs bar to use the toilets on our floor which was hired for private function#

Came here for a few drinks with my friends it was a good night and good atmosphere with attentive service

A friend was celebrating their Birthday and had hired the middle floor. Having arrived and said our hellos, my partner and I proceeded to the bar to buy some drinks. We waited for 10 minutes as the bar staff were slow only for someone else to walk up to the bar who was not part of the Birthday celebrations and get served before us. I made my feelings known to the barman who clearly did not know how to run a bar properly. He acknowledged his mistake and apologised. I would describe the middle floor as semi-private as other people from down stairs were walking through to use the toilet (and clearly the bar too - see above). When I went into the toilets, there was a man in there offering sprays of eau de toilette and paper towels to dry my hands looking for tips - I've seen all that when I was in my 20s. There was no toilet seat in the cubicle or soap. My partner said there was also no toilet seat in the ladies and a cloth wrapped round one of the taps (presumably it was broken??). All in all, I think this venue is punching above their weight and certainly doesn't offer an 'elegant but understated' experience. I won't be returning.

Great venue. VIP area with semi private bar. Cocktails 2 for 1 till 9pm then the drinks remained reasonably priced. Excellent music. Would recommend it as for a brilliant night out.

I organised my friend’s baby shower and I don’t live locally to the venue so I corresponded with Laura (manager) who answered all my questions quickly. We had the small room at the top (15 people seated comfortably fitted). We had a buffet style afternoon tea which was generous and tasty – lovely cakes. The venue also catered for the vegetarians and gluten free guests with no bother. We had our own bar and dedicated bar lady (Vicky). Vicky was fabulous. She helped us set up, she was friendly and nothing was too much bother – thank you!

After a lovely meal at my favourite italian next door this is an ideal place for post dinner drinks and dance. The welcome here is excellent and the door staff( who need to be taught some manners) are nice and nasty depending on their moods. Get over that and what more can you ask for- inside there are cocktails done properly, and a Dj until early hours with old favs as well as latest tunes being played. Lovely

Early doors on a Saturday was just a bit too noisy. I must be getting old!!! Cocktails 241 which I didn't know about was probably the reason for the busy noisy bar but the drinks were poor ! It may have been what we chose but the mojito was warm and soooo sweet and the pornstar martini was served with s plastic shot of prosecco yuk!! Left our drinks on the table and went to Frankies

Have tried to visit Vertigo on a number of occasions but without success. Their opening times seem confused and irregular. They need to stabilise to compete with the large number of food houses nearby.

This is the worst cream tea I have ever had treating my friend to cream tea I have ever had all shop bought scones and cakes to I'm so disappointed this venue was recommended I wish I had gone somewhere else I won't be returning the only thing good are the staff total rip off don't come here for cream tea they are cheap and nasty

Había una larga mesa con alrededor de 26 personas, teníamos cuatro platos de sándwiches. Cada plato tenía un abundante en las placas, así que tenía que ser aprobado hacia arriba y abajo de la mesa, habría sido mucho más sensato para poner una selección en cada placa. Los scones y crema eran muy bonitas, las tartas no eran muy tentadoras.

Reservar con antelación para el té de la tarde en el Día de la Madre 2016. A su llegada no había nadie allí, pero la persona que sirve no parecía saber que estábamos llegando. Té de la tarde llegamos pero el real taza de té tomó otros 20 minutos después de tener que pedir dos veces! Variedad de canapés y los pasteles era sosa fueron nada especial. No hay nadie más llegó para el té mientras estábamos allí, pero el nivel de servicio nos hicieron sentir no deseado. No se reserva allí.

No he estado para el té de la tarde aquí por el Día de la madre, y estoy muy satisfecho con lo bonito que era. . . La comida era fresca y sabrosa, con un amable personal que ofrece té y café de primera categoría...

What can I say..........We met friends and was struggling to think of somewhere to go. Then it was suggested we try 'Vertigo Lounge' in Hornchurch.FANTASTIC, we were met at the door by a professional and polite door team. The venue was comfortably busy with a lively atmosphere thanks to the D.J. pounding out old classics and new tunes. Keeping the place jumping.........We then worked our way to the bar and the ladies were informed by the friendly, helpful staff of the '2 for 1' cocktail deal available. Ladies sorted, us fella's then started to drink our way through the vast range of beers and spirits. Forget the others, full of plastic Essex boy gangsters and 'wanna-be' WAG's. This bar is the place to be seen in Hornchurch. Can't express our gratitude enough to the guys and girls working there making our night perfect. THANK YOU AGAIN

If you're looking for a fantastic afternoon tea with great service look no further than Vertigo lounge. Booked for a group of girls and we were not disappointed. Lots of fresh sandwiches, cakes and flowing tea! Fantastic service, would highly recommend.

In my opinion its one of the nicest little bars in Hornchurch. The beer is good, the wine is great and the service is good except when having to deal with making of a lot of cocktails. Music can get a bit loud, but that is a personal thing. Great little terrace for tge summer time. It can get packed due to the odd shape. There is also a second floor that can be hired out for private functions.

We hired the Terrace Bar on the top floor of Vertigo Lounge for a 40th Birthday party. My first impression was -a little too small for the amount of people that were attending (35 adults,10 children) but with the lovely terrace outside it was ideal. The barman was fantastic, drinks a little pricey.The only negative was we left some balloons with weights, a selfie frame and some banners that we arranged to pick up the next day; but a new cleaner didn't realise and threw them out. I contacted the bar and they were excellent the next day they refunded the cost of the items. All in all i would say for an intimate function this venue is ideal.

Popped in Vertigo lounge with some friends for the cocktails (2 for 1) but ended staying until the end of the night. It was a nice slightly older crowd (30-40) and the DJ played exactly the right music. There was a younger party upstairs but the door team kept this under control and it didn't affect the atmosphere downstairs. Great drinks,friendly staff,perfect mix of music will definitely be going back!

First time here at a party. Nice bar staff and door supervisors as well. The function room was clean the function room has a view of over looking Hornchurch Square. Only bad thing the DJ couldn't mix :-/

We booked this venue on a Sunday night for 80 people. The venue is on 3 floors. We booked the 2nd and 3rd floors which easily held our partygoers. There are bars on all 3 floors and stairs connecting. We put our entertainment, a singer with backing tracks on Level 2 along with our brought-in catered food, although the venue can provide perfectly acceptable catering option. The third level was available for those who wanted to chat, rather than dance and listen to the music. There is a balcony with glass window shields so even in Autumn when we went, people chatted on the balcony looking down into 'beautiful downtown' Hornchurch!The staff couldn't do enough for us in preparation for our event or on the night. We had a ball. Thank you!

We visited last night for a pre dinner cocktail. It was 241 so great value but my god the espresso Martinis I was served were horrible. Far to sweet with no froth and no coffee beans. I would of happily paid full price for one decent cocktail than that rubbish. No effort at all with the presentation. Felt very disappointed as wanted to come here for my husbands birthday with friends but will look elsewhere now.

we were served by a very bubbly leah and she can make a fab mojito too, great range of wines, Happy hour is great value. Lovely clean and friendly. Love the different levels great for a small private function

Recently visited here for my best friend's engagement party; she had hired the first floor out. First impressions were good, bar staff very friendly as was the bouncer on the door. However, some of the other bouncers seemed intent in throwing one of our friends out because they thought he was drunk. After they threw him out, we insisted on someone speaking to the manager. Straight away the manager let him back in. My best friend had paid for this function therefore I do not understand how the bouncers can make a decision to throw someone out without consulting anyone else first. In addition, at the end of the night with ten minutes still to go, the bouncers congregated on the first floor and repeatedly told us we had to leave, which we were very obviously trying to do. The bar staff however were incredibly pleasant and always made us feel welcome.

My mum, sister and I went here on Saturday 6th Feb for mum's birthday for afternoon tea. It was very nice and the guy on duty was very attentive without being fussy. The only downside are the steep stairs, so not suitable if you are not steady on your feet, but there is an area downstairs which I am sure can be used also. I would go here again.

Booked afternoon tea for me, my sister, mum and mother in law .. We had a variety of sandwiches and cakes and there's also gluten free options if needed. Only suggestion I would make is to add a little more variety to the sandwich fillers as they were quite basic. For example we had just ham but they could of done ham and cream cheese or maybe more meat options. This is just for feedback to possibly help improve future visits. Also could be a good idea to have two trays, one of which just had sandwiches and one for the cakes/scones.The service was great and overall had a lovely day and would 100 percent go back. :)

We went here as every bar in Hornchurch was busy. We went upstairs where you could sit and have a drink. Good music if a little loud, everybody up dancing, stayed to 1 am. Toilets not nice,

I came here for afternoon tea with my elderly nan, so I had asked if we could sit down stairs which they said was fine. Food was lovely lots of sandwichs, tea was lovely. I would recommend! Only thing was printer wasn't working so could not print a receipt to see a break down slightly annoying but overall happy with the service and food! Would come again!

Small downstairs area. Didn't venture upstairs as lots of parties going on and the only functioning bar was downstairs anyway. Found a seat in the corner. Drinks are standard bar drinks with ok prices. There earlier than bouncers soCouldn't comment on that experience. The toilets were upstairs but the toilet downstairs didn't lock- very disconcerting that the sliding door would be opened for all in the bar outside to see!

Every time I've visited I've never been disappointed. The cocktails are really nice and it's even better then when it's 2 for 1. Staff are friendly and always happy to help.

We hired the top floor of Vertigo for my friends Baby Shower, there were 19 of us in total and it worked perfectly. The hire cost for the floor is really reasonable at £100 and as it was a nice day we made full use of the balcony/terrace area. The floor has its own bar so no need to queue for a drink. We had the assistant manager Ed, looking after us all day and I can honestly say he was THE most helpful person !!! He helped us arrange furniture (many trips up and down stairs moving things for us) always making sure we had drinks etc he was so so helpful. I would highly recommend this place. We had the afternoon tea buffet which with the room charge worked out only £8 per head which was SO reasonable and delicious there was so much food (far more than other afternoon tea's I have had). Overall I highly recommend, we had a fantastic party here. Thank you Vertigo and Ed !!

We hired the top floor for a baby shower this weekend and it was great. The hire cost is very reasonable @ £100. We opted for the afternoon tea buffet which was also very good @ £8 per head. 6 finger sandwiches each, mini eclair, cake, cup cake, shortbread and scone which is a lot more than you get at most afternoon teas. They were so accommodating and although i didn't get the bar mans name, he was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. I would highly recommend this place based on service, value and quality.

I treated my Mum to Afternoon Tea here on 24th July 2015.We both loved it! The sandwiches were really fresh and tasty. Plenty of them too. We also thoroughly enjoyed the scones and varied selection of cakes. The staff were also incredibly welcoming. The gentleman who served us deserved a huge thanks. My mum loved her treat and I look forward to taking my partner and friends here again some time soon

I came into vertigo bar with my sister in laws to meet my brothers. It was very over crowded and there were empty glasses filling every son low table. While I was dancing I have glass sticking to my shoes and going in my shoes!! The broken glass was literally covering the dance floor. I went to the bar to ask if they had a broom that could be used to sweep it up!! After coming back to say there wasn't one down stairs she went off to look elsewhere! She came back and handed ME a dustpan and brush!!! I was very very shocked, I was a paying customer. So I take the brush from her and walk toward my brother who looked at me with disbelief snatched it from me and threw it away from me. One of te male bar staff noticed this and asked if everything was ok to which I replied with the situation. He too looked very shocked and immediately took the dustpan and brush and came back (almost instantly) with a broom, not sure where her was hiding it from te lady but he had no trouble finding it!!) after this my other brother popped outside for some fresh air to then be refuse re entry. Now the rest of us including their friends were all still inside. There was no warning for him that I he left he wouldn't be allowed back? When we finally realised 2 of us went to see an the bouncer was being totally unreasonable! He refused to give us his name and he also would show us any kind of ID badge or proof that he even had any kind of insurance or whatever it is you need to be a security guard?!?!?? Very rude, very abrupt and aggressive in his tone and when I was talking to him he even put his hand up to my face which I was absolutely disgusted in!!! Bloody awful place!

Placard outside advertising breakfast from 10.00 a.m. but always closed when I have gone. Cleaner still puts the sign out, why?!!!

On 8th Feb we held a surprise party for my mum at vertigo. We had 30 plus people there and had an afternoon tea buffet. The team were so accommodating even changing the floor for me on the day when I was worried about the stairs. The food was lovely with lots of choice. There was more than enough for everyone. Drinks were really reasonable. The best bit is the team. They were kind, considerate with nothing too much trouble. My mum said it was one of the best days of her life. Thank you Laura and ed for all your help. I would not consider going anywhere else for a family event. Thank you!

On Saturday night my Girlfriend and I decided to head into town to have a drink and maybe a bite to eat. We ended up wondering into Vertigo Lounge in Hornchurch at about 6pm. We were the only couple in there at the time. We sat at a table in the corner and were enjoying a few drinks and taking advantage of the 2-4-1 cocktails. My Girlfriends brother and his Girlfriend came and joined us about 7pm. By this time the bar was starting to get a bit busier. At 8pm a man came over to where we were sitting and plonked down his 2 big bags next to us and said "Sorry, you’re going to have to move Im Dj'ing. There should have been a sign" There was no sign and none of the bar staff had informed us that this area would be used when we first arrived. I asked one of the bar staff politely if they could re-locate us at another sitting area to which they said "Sorry, you'll have to find one yourself". At this point I was quiet taken back by the unwillingness of the staff to accommodate us for being inconvenienced. Luckily a table behind became free so we moved there and thought nothing of it. About half an hour later another member of staff came over to us and said "This table is reserved from 9pm so you’re going to have to move". I was quiet annoyed at this point as yet again there was no reservation sign and we were not informed at the start of our night (being the first people in the bar, we could have chosen somewhere else to sit). Again I asked if we could be sat somewhere else and again the bar staff were shockingly arrogant and unwilling. The bar at this point was busy and the staff looked out of their depth. The staff could see I was getting upset and then got the bouncers involved. To be fair to the bouncer, he understood our situation and reasoned with me once we had spoken outside. He said he would ask the manager if there was anything she could do. He returned (not the manager) to say she couldn’t do anything. I then asked to speak to the manager. After explaining my frustrations to her about being moved from pillar to post with no warning whilst trying to enjoy a drink with family members I was appalled at her attitude and complete disregard for customer service. Not once did she apologise to me or my party, in fact she asked the bouncers to remove us. I have never been so humiliated in my life being surrounded by bouncers watching me finish my drink so they could escort me, my girlfriend, her brother and his girlfriend off the premises. Before we left my Girlfriend tried to reason with the manager after I had no success while I spoke to the bouncer outside. The next thing I know my girlfriend comes running out crying and because of this her brother was furious and was forcible removed, the bouncer ripping his shirt. The whole evening was completely ruined and I will not be returning to this bar again. There are plenty of other bars in Hornchurch with much better customer service and basic common sense that I would rather spend my money in, not to mention a lot cheaper too. The bar website claims to provide “high quality eating and drinking experience”, well my experience was anything but. It also claims the bar is “elegant”, there was nothing elegant about the way we were treated that night.

My boyfriend and I come for drinks on Saturday night around 6pm, and was enjoying the 2-4-1 cocktails! My brother and his Girlfriend joined us around 7pm and we continued the drinking. Around 7.30 /8.00pm the DJ advised us that we would have to use this area to set up (there was no sign) We had been sitting there from 6pm and the bar staff failed to let us know that this area would have to be used- and also refused to find us another area, in their word “you will have to stand then”. Luckily a space become available and we moved table and enjoyed another round of drinks, until another bar stuff approached us to advise us that this area was also reserved from 9 – AGAIN, no sign! We again asked the bar staff if they would kindly find us another seating area, in which they rudely declined. My boyfriend then got a little upset with how we was being treated and the bouncer was called. The bouncer was actually very understanding, and agreed with our argument. The bouncer advised he will speak with the manager to see if there is anything she can do, to re-locate us, after a couple of minutes the bouncer returned with “she cannot do anything” which my boyfriend then requested to speak with the manager himself. Again we got nowhere with this – after we kindly explained to Sarah the Manager how we felt and how we had been treated, she called security to ‘escort’ us off the premises. I then decided to have a girly one on one chat with her, and ask why she felt the need to get us ‘escorted out’ which I would like to add is very embarrassing! She was very rude to me, and a very poor manager. She got me very frustrated as was not listening to my point, claiming that my boyfriend had been rude to her (if anyone has ever met Adam they would know he is nothing of the type!) Being frustrated I walked out of the bar, the next thing I knew my brother was being chucked out aggressively by the bouncers, ripping his shirt. Worst experience I have every had whilst out for drinks with my family and boyfriend! I will never be returning – and will be writing a written complaint to the owner of this bar.

Restaurant had checked earlier in day that we still wanted table so asked if ok if we were a little late. They said no problem as we had table for whole evening. On arrival..approx 8.20pm so 40mins late but not that late!...we were told might have to wait for food as Cook had turned off ovens!! Not a great start considering earlier conversation....made to feel uncomfortable and awkward. Know it was mid week but still only two in restaurant for the whole evening so atmosphere was dead. Then told that instead of turkey Xmas main meal, they only had chicken...laughable as we were choosing from Xmas menu! Waitress was efficient after initial glitch and mains of chicken wrapped in bacon were very good. Didn't pay bill straight away as was chatting but then young man started to hover (pretending to look out window!) so again we were made to feel uncomfortable. Literally stepped onto pavement outside restaurant...@10.20 so not particularly late...and we heard the key in door locking up behind us!!!!! Seemed they couldn't wait for us to leave! Very disappointing...will not be going again.

I came here recently for a work Christmas party in which we had the second floor hired for the event. Overall the entertainment was good as well as the staff all being very friendly. The food supplied was in a buffet style with a large selection all of which was of good standard . The drinks on offer were also good and having Aspall cider on tap was a nice touch from your traditional strongbow. Would recommend to anyone looking for a venue for a Christmas party in the future.

Having only visited here for drinks, I can't comment on the quality of the food or the restuarant. Visited mid week evening for quiet drinks for my birthday before a meal at a local restuarant on the high road. I have never been here before but would quite happily return one evening for a drink. I was drinking cocktails, which all looked very nice... and a bonus of 2 for 1 between 6-8pm! Also was very pleased to find Tequila Rose being served, my favourite!Decor was nice, wasn't very busy, and the music was just right. Would recommend this place for chilled drinks! Having drove past this at the weekend, does look a lot busier then so I can't see it being all too relaxed on those nights. But for mid week in Hornchurch, was just right!

A nice wine bar and loung place, let down by obtrusive door staff and some very intimidatory fellow guests. Relax girls ,it is only a wine bar and not a competition pageant. the music is way too loud, and it is not easy to hold a conversation here. The drinks too are way too over-priced, and there is no real class here, just noise. I'm sticking to Brentwood and Epping next time.

We went to Vertigo for Mothers Day. We were all a little apprehensive about going out for Mother's Day as we have always had bad experiences with service and food in the past. We were, however, so pleasantly surprised. The service was great and the food was excellent. As three mothers we Really enjoyed our day and will definitely go back soon.

I had afternoon tea with a friend, it was around lunch time on a Saturday and surprisingly we were the only ones in the restaurant. The music was a bit pants and we were seated next to the window in full view of everyone on the Hornchurch high street. The staff were nice and attentive but we felt pressured by them to leave quicker than we would have liked to as they close at 1. As usual with cream tea, it was lovely and they were generous with the sandwiches. We got one scone each and I thought that was a bit stingy considering the £12.50 price. Would recommend afternoon tea there on a different day or time.

Fathers day meal ruined by very very poor quality food and service. Over priced. Should of gone to mac Donalds.Don't bother. Unless just going for drinks.

Shoddy finish. Vastly overpriced. Plastic glasses. Heavy lipstick on one glass. We were a mixed group of friends and every one of us were of the same opinion.

We went to vertigo lounge for afternoon tea for a friends birthday must say i was very impressed service was excellent nothing was to much trouble sandwichs were fresh,cakes were bigger than you would normaly get and as much tea coffee or hot chocloate as you wanted a very pleasant experience.

For the price, really good; the staff are friendly, the setting is pleasant. A few things to note. I think the sandwiches are prepared earlier, so didn’t feel as fresh (I’m fussy with bread being super fresh!) but the fillings were tasty. Lovely scones! And most of the cakes were delicious. We were a little disappointed with the desert that looked the nicest; a little kind of chocolate cheesecake. Sadly, it didn’t taste very chocolaty and had a strange texture, almost like it had too much gelatine - when we expected it to be like a soft torte. Nevertheless, the cake was moist and we had a delicious fruity trifle in a shot glass. Yum! Of course, the tea was lovely too! I would definitely recommend this for a relaxed afternoon tea without all the pomp that often comes with.

Visited this restaurant for the first time on sunday for mothers day. Had no idea there was a restaurant here until I was told that's where we were going. They had a 3 course meal with a glass of champagne for £24,95. Very nice atmosphere, quite relaxed. Food was nice, portions big and Im afraid I couldn't finish it all. We didn't feel rushed at all as sometimes expected on busy days so it was to be able to relax and take our time. Will most definitely be returning soon with friends.

Shame, could be such a nice place if run properly. There is an old saying 'Fur coat no knickers' I would suggest this applies.

I had the misfortune to spend my birthday here at the end of January. My starter of Calamari was very overcooked and the squid inside was the dimension of a cotton thread! Other starters for my group were not of a good standard either. Now onto the mains - terrible not to put a finer point on it. All food was virtually stone cold. The steaks were either, overcooked, undercooked, chewy or fatty. When we called the manager to inspect the food, she stated that cooking steak was a matter of opinion - ie what some restaurants would call medium others would call rare! Now, I have never heard of that one, surely medium is pink, rare is bloody and well done is ....well done! we were also told that the food left the kitchen hot, so she couldn't accept that it was cold. (even though the kitchen is on the floor below!) The female manager did not accept criticism or feedback and seemed to take it very personally. She offered 20% off the bill but did not take any of the unacceptable meals off - which means it wasn't actually a discount at all. To make things worse, we already knew that there was a deal in January for all meals to be discounted by 20% anyway!!! For me, the food was terrible but the manager's attitude was inexcusable, aggressive, argumentative and downright rude. Do not visit this restaurant if you like a decent meal!

Visited last night. Menu choice limited but something most would eat. All starters were so basic and just acceptable. The staff sadly seemed to have no communication skills and were not even sure what they were selling when you asked a question. Most of us ordered steak and chips for £19.95 each person received their meal at different times. One meal was wrong and all our meals were warm - not hot! My one onion ring was the size of a two pence coin and the five chips that were supposed to be stacked like Jenga blocks were rubbish! Two of the steaks were 1/3 hard chewy fat and un eatable. The worst thing was the rude arrogant manner of the manager. She would not accept any criticism regarding our food and did not behave in the way a restaurant manager would - her customer service skill were non existent! Though we were given 20 percent discount we did not feel this was acceptable and did not pay for one of the steaks. May look a nice place. Yes has the decor and fancy plates - but not the food or staff to back it up. Very very disappointing night. We were so upset we did not even stay for desert or coffee - and most of us left there hungry!

My husband and I (plus 3) we're lucky enough to get the last available table for Christmas lunch and loved every minute. The lovely, friendly, young staff greeted us happily with complementary champagne and canapés. The 6 course meal was tasty and perfect. The atmosphere was relaxed and cosy. This is our favourite restaurant in Hornchurch and we will be back soon. Happy Christmas and thank you!!

The Mrs and I celebrated her 40th with 11 of our friends on a recent Saturday night, Once the reservation was made Jamie did a fantastic job to ensure everyone would have the meal they wanted (pre-ordered). On the day the staff were very attentive and the 1st floor was dedicated to us. Although we had pre-ordered we were not rushed through and were given plenty of time.The beverages were quite tasty (the bon bons were the ladies particular favorite). For dinner the Pumpkin Risotto and the steak were particularly well received.All in all a lovely evening.

I went into vertigo lounge with my boyfriend for a quick drink on a Sunday afternoon, it was very quiet.He ordered a pint which was cloudy and smelt foul. When he complained they happily changed it to a pint of Budweiser which was also cloudy and undrinkable! At this point we gave up!

Been here a few times to drink and was surprised to hear they had opened a restaurant so decided to give it a go. Pleasantly surprised. Had a lovely meal food well cooked and well presented. The white chocolate parfait is to die for. i had the steak and my partner had the salmon. portion sizes were good. will definitely be going back soon.

Oh dear another nice restaurant off the would go back list! The chef has left, such a shame we liked the food here. I had the rare beef and chicken salad which was not edible, awful chewy tough meat, my wife's starter was fine. Then to the mains....... Yuk my chicken was overcooked and dry, the broccoli was undercooked as for my wife's meal well she ordered the salmon which came up raw! We questioned the cooking of the salmon and was told that the cook does her salmon like that (rare) fine if you like that sort of thing, sushi eater perhaps may like this place. The bad food was taken off the bill, we won't be going back.

Went here last weekend with my boyfriend and had a excellent time. Food was lovely, well presented and tasted delicious. Service was great, everyone polite with a smile on thier face and seemed happy to be there. Drinks were good especially the cocktails. Lovely atmosphere aswell. Overall a great night and would definatley go there again

We all had a fantastic time for a friends surprise 50th, the venue is brilliant and the food lovely. The staff worked so hard to make it a perfect evening, thankyou so much.

Ate here at lunchtime. Waitresses were so unfriendly it verged on rude. Hoped the food would improve the experience, it did not! I ordered scallops for starters and got 3 about the size of a 20p piece for £7.50! Had chicken for main which was dry and tasteless accompanied by broccoli that had gone yellow! I won't be visiting again!

Amazing food. Excellent service. Been eating there for a few weeks now can't fault it. Been with family, friends and with hubby. Up there with the best!!

very reasonable price £25 for 2 so good value.sandwiches were fresh,nice scones..cakes ok but shop brought :( only one cup of tea per person and no choice of tea....staff were ok but not over friendly ....maybe as its a new venture its a learning curve...was spotless clean and had air con which was lovely ...all in all a nice time had by all....just missed the little extras you get at places like Orsett hall...but would go again if Orsett hall was busy !!!!

we haven eaten in every resteraunt in hornchurch and the surrounding areas but always thought the vertigo lounge was a bar. but was pleasantly suprised at the resteraunt. The staff went out of there way to please, the food was exeptional, and nothing like you would have anywhere else in Hornchurch, not your usual indian, chinese, mexican but a fantastic choice of english food with a difference. We would highly recommend a visit!

Couldn't wait to come back - brought two friends along this time and they were just as impressed as we were. It was hard to choose as everything on the menu sounded delicious. Everything was perfect and our plates were virtually licked clean. It is my favourite restaurant and the staff are so friendly and attentive. We overheard a couple of moany customers so we made a point of stressing how much we enjoyed our evening and the food. Roll on the next time!!!

Please keep this quiet as it must not get around. There is a place in Hornchurch without the need to go up to London. My wife requires gluten free food and with advance booking the staff were able to guide us through the menu and what she could have. As well as that, the restaurant brought her gluten free bread, a real bonus for her. So what was it like? The food was excellent, good portions and well priced, the service polite and non-intrusive and a good selection of wines (and nothing that you would find in your local supermarket ). Over all an excellent experience but it's got to stay our secret OK?

Good tasting cocktails, mixed efficiently and with care. Reasonably priced compared to many places. Comfortable bar area, even when busy.. A good place to spend an afternoon drinking and watching the world go by outside. Friendly staff.

If you don't want to travel up to London and looking for a lovely venue for Afternoon Tea, then give the Vertigo Lounge a try. We went on Saturday and enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, a great venue and reasonably priced.

I've been going here again and again since the place opened! Even though I no longer live in the area it's a perfect getaway for when I come downtown visit the family! Shhh don't tell them tho they think I'm here to see them ;)I've tried most of the Restaurants in Hornchurch but the food here is consistently excellent and the staff make you feel welcome. Also they have a rooftop terrace which is nice in the summer (for the short period that is in England!) Give it a try, oh and they have a good happy hour 6 til 8!

I have been to Vertigo Lounge many times for drinks however this was my first visit to their restaurant and I must say I was seriously impressed. The setting and atmosphere are unique which is a welcome addition to the area and just what Hornchurch needed. The menu had some lovely options and the food was amazing. We weren't rushed either which was fab and allowed us to enjoy our meal in our own time. A must next time you are in Hornchurch.

Had a lovely three course meal here last night. Had been passed a number of times and thought it was more of a bar, after reading some of the reviews and a bonus that they have tastecard offer we thought we would give it a try. Absolutely delicious food! Definitely the best we have had in Hornchurch, well cooked, tasty, well presented and pleasant staff, will definitely be back

Had lunch here with my hubby on 14th April - didn't realise it was a restaurant! We just went in for a drink and looked at the menu and decided to stay. It was so nice! Lovely welcoming staff and yummy food. It is reasonably priced and the food was better than a lot of more expensive places. Lots of nice wines to choose from too. Can't fault it and look forward to our next visit.

I arrange a large group of 15 people for a birthday celebration. As the food is made from fresh ingredients, the manager asked me to order our dishes in advance. This wasnt a problem as we chose to go for the set menu. It worked out really well, not having to wait too long between courses, or when we first arrived. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff did everything they could to help, even bringing in a big cake that had been delivered earlier that day! I would definitely recommend eating or drinking here.

Been here a few times before now for drinks and have always really enjoyed it so thought I'd give the new restaurant a try and Wow! so glad I did! The service was great, the staff really friendly, the atmosphere really relaxed and the food excellent. The glass front and new refit all really add to the experience. It has a really luxurious and expensive feel to it.... felt so much more like a 'treat' rather than the other 'samey' places in the area, yet was really reasonably priced.Will defiantly be going back to sample more of the yummy food and cocktails. I highly recommend it. This place is a real gem!

Vertigo has just had a refit and opened a restaurant on the first floor. We went there for mothers day lunch. The food was excellent, a really good choice and excellent quality. There was a complimentary cocktail for Mums.The staff were really friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed. We had a table at the front which is all glass so were able to watch the world go by as we ate.The refit downstairs has created a much warmer cosier atmosphere than before.Would definantly recommend it.
