First visit to the newly refurbished Thatched House and was very pleasantly surprised by the excellent atmosphere. Food, service and staff really excellent. Will certainly be returning again soon.

Very pleasant afternoon with2 friends. in this cozy pub . Been a few times in recent years and was very good to day. Staff friendly and food hot . All the items on menu were in stock .Well done to Chefs Reece and Alex and all the wating Staff , oh and dog welcomed in the bar.

We have eaten here on a few occasions & really enjoyed the food along with the excellent service. We popped in for lunch this week and the whole experience was poor, we ordered the Duck Pizza to share only to be told 20 mins later they were out of duck. My husband then chose Lasagne, again not available, we made our choices and then went on to wait a further 30 mins. When the food did arrive it was over cooked and barely warm. Sonia our waitress was very apologetic, she offered to swap the food but as we had waited so long we just wanted to eat & go. The kitchen being busy was given as the reason for the delay but I don't feel that is a good enough reason for such a poor experience. Sonia was great but with just 2 ladies serving food and being behind the bar they were overstretched. With so much choice in Upminster/Hornchurch I think we will eat elsewhere for a while & maybe try again in the future.

Myself and a friend had a really delicious meal at The Thatched House. The server Sonia was warm and welcoming . The decor is beautiful and I’d definitely recommend going there .

Took the family for lunch. A nice place with good relaxed atmosphere. Plenty parking and food was tasty. Our waitress (Charlotte) was very attentive and contributed to what was an overall pleasant experience. Would recommend the place to eat and/or drink.

Lovely Lunch in the newly refurbished pub restaurant. The staff were polite and efficient. Keeping the busy restaurant clear of used dishes and chatting with customers. The food was excellent Would recommend the ultimate burger. A full meaty burger with pulled pork, with onion rings. Also the chicken skewer with feta salad and the lamb rump skewer with beetroot hummus and cous cous salad. £75 for 4 2 courses and wine. Great value

Great surroundings, staff friendly and helpful. No problem if allocated table is not suitable, can move to another. Food good plenty of choice on menu. We had lunch on a Thursday and the restaurant become full, so very popular, worth booking.

We made an impromptu trip to the Thatched House on a Saturday. Although they had bookings which meant they'd have no tables in 90 mins time they were happy to accommodate us on that basis. One of our party has health issues and we asked for a more secluded table so that they could take off their mask. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and we didn't feel like we were a nuisance. Great service.

I went Monday lunchtime with my friend and Louise was brilliant and very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us decide and we were very happy with the choices and enjoyed the food and experience very much

Weve eaten here on numerous occasions and each time it's been a pleasure. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Today we were served by Sonia. We've been served by Sonia quite a few times and shes always amazingly cheery and helpful. The food is really good and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Staff were really friendly & helpful & we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We had the Calamari for starters & the Seabass & King Prawn Skewers with feta salad/couscous for mains. We took advantage of the 50% off of mains deal! They also offer other deals. This is also a dog friendly pub so we will definitely be back with our Dachshund!

As per excellent food, short on staff so we had nearly an hour wait for our food. Not the first time we have been and its been understaffed. Service is excellent and the food, just the time delays.... We are booked in again for 24/01/25, hopefully more staff on. Little things let down an otherwise great evening.

The service from the beginning was great. Our waitress seemed to be running the floor by herself and did a good job to make sure everyone was seen to promptly with the restaurant being fairly busy, with a friendly and welcoming attitude. After our first drinks we chose a bottle of Rioja which was delicious, and the waitress agreed it was a great choice. The Camembert to start was a nice sharer, and we chose the sea bass and the fish cakes for main. The sea bass was very tasty and an overall great dish. The fish cakes were tasty but we felt the dish needed something to pull it together more as it was dry. We went all out and had dessert, and again the waitress was very accommodating in allowing us to have ice cream and custard with our choices. The setting was very comfortable and homely, and seemed clean and well looked after.

First time visiting this lovely gastro pub. Excellent food and service. Both mine and my partners fish was cooked to perfection. A great unrushed experience. I will definitely be returning.

First time here won't be back 1 hour 20 minutes wait for food when it arrived it was cold nothing looked fresh worst £70 spent on a meal out but the most disappointing was it was for my sister in law birthday

Food wasn't good both burgers over cooked. Both fish was over cooked chips OK. My started which I was going to share with my granddaughter. 3 prawns and 2 scallops well over priced at 12.95. Very slow service waitress very nice.

Whole dining experience was wonderful as always! We LOvE the Thatched House & the refurb looks lovely. Special mention for Sonia who, as always, was very welcoming, friendly & efficient. Highly recommended x

Great place to eat. Waitress told us 15 minute wait due to a wake being cleared but seated us within a few minutes. Drinks delivered within 5 minutes & food order taken. Had rack of lamb with shepherds pie. What a delight. Although shepherds pie was hotter than hell. No complaints here. Update 11/1/24. Still excellent food. But out of our party of 10, 6 of them ate their meal with their coats on. Admitting it was a cold evening but there was no warmth in the building

Visited today 5 January 2025 it was extremely busy but Manager Zoe and sever Sonia coped incredibly well and the food was well worth the wait excellent as always highly recommend

Went for birthday meal and was so disappointed. The only plus was the food - that was delicious - no complaints at all about the standard of the food. The rest was absolutely appalling. The whole restaurant was freezing - people were asking to move as it was so cold. The worst aspect was the service. It was truly appalling. There was lots staff available - but instead of tending to their patrons - they stood around chatting at the bar and at the cutlery/condiment stand. We waited about 15 mins before anybody took our drinks order - then the food order arrived with 2 items that we had asked to be omitted, so that had been ignored! Then we had to interrupt their chat to ask for a side that the server hadn’t brought out. Nobody came to check we were happy with the food - nobody asked if we wanted any more drinks or desserts. It wasn’t very busy and there was at least 4/5 staff standing around chatting the entire time we were there. Therefore there was no excuse for the lack of attention to detail at all. We won’t be back.

Absolutely AMAZING will recommend having the new duo of lamb as it was tender and juicy!! Also our servers Zoe the new general manager and Sonia they both were equally outstanding!! 10/10 recamend the thached house as a cozy chilled pub.

Had a wonderful roast dinner today, service amazing, food amazing and a real lovely atmosphere. Have been before quite a few times and never been disappointed. We were served by Sonia who couldn’t have done more and all with a huge smile. We need more Sonia’s in the world. Thankyou so much for a lovely meal and wonderful experience! Took a chance and walked in for drinks on NYE thinking we would be turned away. The manager found us a table in the bar. The entertainment was fantastic. The team were so friendly. Working their way around, talking and having fun with the customers. It was a great atmosphere, we stayed until the end and it was such a great evening that we’ve already booked for next year! Thank you so much Thatched House. Evening thoroughly enjoyed by all!!

Lovely pre Christmas lunch with family, nice atmosphere, very busy but that did not affect the service. Our waitress Sonia was excellent, giving us time between courses and not rushing us at all.

if you have never been, you HAVE to go. The refurb is beautiful. Service is amazing!!! Sonia is the nicest, most loveliest waitress ever. Zoe has completely changed the experience the BEST manager. Every time we have come here for a dinner, lunch or just drinks, they are pleasant, funny and helpful person to be around. 100% recommend because of Zoe and Sonia 🤍

Excellent meal in the cosy newly refurbished pub tonight, looked after by Sonia who was extremely kind and attentive and nothing was too much trouble, despite the fact that the pub was very full and the team were very busy. Food was excellent, very tasty and beautifully presented, my school age children ate very well and had lots of colour on their plates with vegetables available for them, and good portion sizes. Thank you we will be back it is very welcoming and a great atmosphere

We picked here for lunch as we needed somewhere that would let dogs in. We loved the food, but the service was so so slow…. Only seemed to have 2 people serving - who were lovely and polite…. Waited 30 mins for drinks and an hour and a quarter for food.

We visited over Christmas and I couldn’t fault it! The food was so delicious, staff and atmosphere were amazing too…a real Christmassy feel. A big thank you goes to you all for all your hard work and for adding something extra to our Christmas. Will definitely be back and would recommend to everyone.

Slow service and cold food when it finally arrived. It took 3 hours to have starters and main. Didn't bother with dessert or we'd be there all night

Five of us ate really well here and all enjoyed our respective dishes - very generous portions too. Needless to say, being the Christmas period it was really busy and when we went, a number of staff had called in sick putting immense pressure on those left trying to serve. They did really well. Special mention must be made of the chef/s because all food was tasty and well prepared and on HOT plates too - always a plus. Thanks to everyone

Everything was great here with really friendly staff. They brought out some colouring bits for our little one too. Food took a little while to come out but was worth the wait.

Had a Christmas day dinner here. To say it was disappointing would be a bit of an understatement. The wait between (pre-ordered) courses was excessive and half of one starter was missing. Sadly the shortage of waiting staff meant that you couldn't realistically deal with issues at the time. When the main arrived it was warm at best and the roast potatoes which are a main part of the Christmas dinner were in fact those catering pre-boiled new potatoes that had been shown the oven from the other side of the kitchen. There was cabbage and sprouts on the veg side but it was difficult to tell which was which as it was just a warm mush, the sprouts had been cooking since Easter by the texture of them. The limited staff were under far too much pressure so I ended up going to the bar mid meal to get a drink, not quite the Christmas day service you would like. At a little short of a hundred quid a head for 3 courses I have to say I feel like I have been mugged.

Xmas dinner was lovely just 1 let down was my desert cheesecake with blueberries, the blueberries were chewy &not fresh at all but overall a nice pub experience.i would go back.

Since they refurbished i love the thatched house. Me and my daughter have been on a few occasions for food and taken the dog which is great. Always treats and a blanket for him too. I am fussy with food, and found the menu good for choice and was also nice food.

Went with my mum who is wheelchair bound. Staff were so helpful. Sonia looked after everything we needed. Food was excellent and service was great.

Lovely british countryside pub. The atmosphere and the service are always great. The food is delicious, they have both traditional and vegan dishes, offering everyone an option to enjoy themselves. They also have baby changing facilities and step-free access.

As usual, staff were great. Atmosphere generally good, apart from today there was a screaming child, which is not conducive to a quiet restaurant meal. Food was lovely, although I personally like my Yorkshire puds crispy.

Just had a meal here and it was lovely, we had to wait a little while for our main course but it was worth the wait, absolutely delicious and good value

Lovely service provided although I thought it was very busy and could have been extra help at front and back of house. The food was really nice. For me,I would have liked more vegetarian options. The rest of the group loved the meat and fish options. It's a popular place and good value for money

You can't beat the flavour of the food served here and the staff are welcoming and helpful. The only down side is that it can be hard to book by phone when the online booking system isn't complying. Food can sometimes arrive cool but is replaced quickly.

Just love coming here with my family. The food is always amazing especially the roast dinners and the staff are so so lovely. Pleasant, friendly and so welcoming. Also very dog friendly as my dog loves it here with all the fuss and treats she gets. Thank you so much. We need more places like this x

Fantastic venue for meeting up with either friends or family and not that expensive.

Food was nice and hot when it eventually arrived...from start to finish it took 3 hours, the first course took an hour and it was NOT at all busy. Shame as it was my father's birthday lunch. Expensive for what you get, but like everything, prices have gone up.

Went hear for dinner recently. The place has been done up nicely and looks a lot better than it used to be. Shown to our table by a man with zero passion to be there. Served by a lovely lady did not catch her name but she was brilliant. She was basically serving all 10 tables in the restaurant while the guy and a another lady just stood at the bar chatting. At one point she actually said "could you run their drinks over" and pointed to our table. Drinks were sitting there for 30 mins I could see this from where I was sitting. The food was brilliant. The sharing platter was a bit different than the normal sharing platter which I liked and was very nice. Would return but the guy at the bar and the other lady server need to go as they really let the place down.

Absolutely wonderful family lunch. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choices from the main menu. The garlic prawn skewers were a terrific success, especially with the younger member of our party. Moroccan spiced chicken skewer packed the right amount of spices without being over powering. Our server Sonia was extremely attentive and couldn't have been more courteous and friendly, this made the whole experience a great pleasure. The main desserts which the oldest and the youngest partaked in were luxurious, the middle members went for the mini dessert with a hot drink. Overall a very enjoyable family meal and we will returned again as soon as possible. Many thanks from us all.
