Velvet Sparrow in Glasgow City

Visited on Christmas Eve and had a fantastic meal / so tasty of the Christmas menu. Booked for Hogmanay and wasn’t disappointed, food amazing, great quality and delicious. Service relaxed but also attentive. Fantastic experience 😊

Came here for dinner on Christmas eve. The service was really good, a little slow at times but we put that down to it being Christmas eve. Food was good although the vegetarian options need a bit of sprucing up. Cocktails are nice.

Staff are amazing. We often visit with a disabled relative and the staff always do everything they can to help us.

A great local spot for me! The food is really tasty & well priced. The servers were super attentive in the right way, we were never waiting around! A lot of people were in for drinks only but I’d recommend getting a wee bite to eat as it was good! They have good mid week deals on for those wanting to treat themselves on a budget.

Have been here a few times and it's always enjoyable. Drinks and food are great. Would definitely recommend the Bramble cocktail. First class service everytime too! 👏🥂

Visited the Velvet Sparrow recently for dinner with my husband and sister. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. My sister and I enjoyed the best burgers we have ever tasted and my husband's "fish of the day" was really special. The service was really efficient and delivered with courtesy and friendliness. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing. It was a wonderful evening and one we shall repeat soon

Mi familia y yo visitamos el 7 de junio para la cena. Nos atendieron por Connor & Niamh principalmente y como siempre allí el servicio fue profesional, amable y atractivo. Ninguna queja de ninguno de nosotros 5 como la comida y el servicio, como siempre, fue genial. Bien hecho a Sean por emplear un gran equipo y por supuesto gracias a los chefs.

Disfrutamos de un almuerzo encantador / fiesta de cumpleaños número 40 para 13 en el Velvet Sparrow. Las instalaciones son muy inteligentes y hay un espacio acogedor a pocos pasos y separado de los otros clientes, que pudimos reservar. La comida era muy buena y todo el personal era amable, cortés y atento, lo que hizo que toda nuestra visita fuera perfecta. ¡Gracias a todos! 10 / 10

I have been several times to the the velvet sparrow and the food usually on par but unfortunately this time I was very disappointed the linguine Arrabbiata was tastless bland and had no body to it,my friend had also chosen this dish and I asked her how she enjoyed her meal to which she responded with very bland with the occasional chilli hit , the other guest also said her meatballs were tasteless as was the sauce that was with the meatballs . It was such a shame as I have had nicer experiences before and recommend the place to my friends who have never been . The service was very good and the cocktails and wine were delish. The place itself is beautiful decorated and has a lovely comfortable feel about it . I would probably say it would not put me off going back on the backs of this one off bad experience, maybe the chief was having a bad day

A decent wee place out the way in sleepy Cathcart. Family live close by and they booked this place which lies in front of Cathcart railway station. Fairly busy for a Sunday night and the staff are excellent. Food is decent and varied but nothing fancy although better than pub grub. Drinks not too pricey and atmosphere good throughout.

Enjoyed our visit. Great place for a drink, and we will be going back there again.

We attended the restaurant on sat 4th for a special birthday. There were 8 of us eating and were blown away by the service of staff, after dinner aperitif and the general attention given to all diners. Food was delightful and there was a lovely Saturday night feeling about the place. Many thanks to all staff - a great night !

Went here last night with my wife. We were looked after very well. Discount for local teachers. The menu was very good. We observed all customers being treated very well(big groups, solo dinners etc). Food was delicious and I had a nice pint. Lemon posset desert was amazing. This will be a regular haunt for us as we are living nearby.

Our second time here and food was great again. The waitress, waiter and Daniel, the manager, were attentive and friendly. Many thanks again !

Visited for the first time for a special birthday. There was 8 of us eating and we couldn’t have asked for more. Service from waitress and manager was excellent and the food was really good quality. We cleared our plates and special touches like bringing out the cake and limoncello to the table made our friend very happy. We will be back!

Food was decent, it's bar food rather than restaurant quality. Waiting staff were friendly, unfortunately there was a group of about 20 steaming women in who were screaming and shouting all evening. Seemed to have the run of the place. Free shots from the manager and other customers ignored, on the manager really. Avoid this place for a family meal.

First time visiting on the recommendation of friends and family and delighted to say we weren’t disappointed. The premises are lovely inside with tasteful decor and comfortable seating at the bar and eating areas which are on split levels. There is a good choice on the food and drinks menus which are both reasonably priced with good sized portions. The salt and chilli chicken and haggis bonbons starters were delicious as were the house burger and rolled haddock main courses. Although we were pretty much full a shared brownie finished off a delicious meal. The waiting staff were extremely friendly, courteous and attentive without being over bearing. They clearly take pride in their work and cannot be faulted. The manager also made a point of speaking to us and it was evident he was keen to look after the customers who were visiting despite it being very busy. Surprised to note a couple of the negative reviews and whilst people are entitled to their own opinion that certainly wasn’t our experience of this cracking place in the heart of Cathcart. We will definitely be back.

Amazing little venue. We're local and just not got around to trying it till now. Service was perfectly balanced, food was great and selection was sizable enough for size of venue. Good cocktail list and drinks menu also. Atmosphere was really nice, music at right level for conversation and even for a Thursday night was busy. We hadn't booked and from now on will do, because we were lucky to get a table and probably was only the case as we were early evening dining.

The service was first class. Staff very attentive and polite. Food was delicious and very well presented. Pricing was fair, roughly what we expected as we eat out often. First time in this restaurant, but will definitely return. Lovely decor, a quiet Sunday eve so not much atmosphere to talk about but tables well spaced out and comfortable. After reading the reviews I was looking forward to our meals. Booked for my mum and partners birthdays. To say we were mostly disappointed would be an understatement. 4 adults and 2 kids (2 baby) Firstly positive things would say the starters were nice mixture of veg spring rolls and haggis Bon Bon’s but when we get to the mains this is where the trouble starts. Positively one member had fish and chips and said it was lovely but of the other meals I would be disappointed receiving this from a snack van never mind a restaurant. 2 Mac and cheese were ordered which supposedly came in a mature cheddar sauce but it was as bland as anything no sauce, zero flavour and in all honestly tasted like a powdered cheese out a packet. Myself and partner barely touched it, and also a kids portion or chicken tenders and adults version. The batter came and was that greasy it just fell off like a soggy mess. This was not touched one bit absolutely vile and the chicken looked barely cooked and was still pink. Raised our concerns with the waiter which in all honestly was just a young boy and he didn’t know how to react so when the bill came asked to speak to the manager. Again as a manager of a restaurant seemed inadequate to answer things and supposedly inspected the food and had no concerns. As I tried to explain the batter around chicken was so badly wet and greasy it falls off to touch but again he said “mate I disagree” and said examined all chicken and feels it to be fine. I asked if he would have ate it and the silence was deafening. To be called mate again is incredibly unprofessional and shows in my opinion the quality of the place. That may be pedantic but it is my honest opinion. We would always stay for a dessert but the meal was that bad we simply got the bill and paid up. Just short of £100 for 2 course for adults and kids portion of wet chicken. Some bland Mac and cheese and soggy chicken tenders was not what I expected and 3 full mains minus some chips were left un eaten. The reviews seem good but not sure if we had a different chef but I can safely I wont be back. The Chinese we ordered when we get home at least filled us up.

Delicious and well prepared food. Plenty of decent options. Staff are very attentive and friendly. We were served by young Jenny and Harrison today - they were very caring with my elderly mum and nothing was too much trouble for them. Love the Sparrow- themed decor and opening French doors onto the street. Relaxing and cheerful atmosphere of a Sunday and good for late afternoon when most cafés are closing up and other restaurants aren’t open yet. Great wee bistro !

I have eaten here many times, but today the food was awful, fish and chips. I would have been embarrassed to serve this food in my home let alone in a restaurant. Very disappointed, I usually sing the praises of this restaurant but not after today. Service great as usual.this will be removed from my go to venues.

I attended my friends 60th birthday dinner along with 16 others. We had the upper part of the restaurant which was just right for our party size. The food & atmosphere were really great & we had such a fantastic time. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals , absolutely no complaints at all. Really great service with Sophie being the perfect waitress & her organisational abilities were really great, she was charming & professional , well done to her & all her colleagues.

Very accommodating we came in to see if they could provide soup for takeaway. It turned out they didn't normally do so, however they very kindly russelled up some soup for us in a takeaway coffee cup with a couple of pieces of bread. Thanks

It's in the 🌟 star's a nice cosy wee place, though spread over three levels, we being upstairs. My wife & a long-time friend who recommended this restaurant was spot on. I was pleasantly surprised by the seafood linguini. Each course was delicious, like each of the party's courses. As this establishment is on a busy road, it was wonderful to find it had side & rear parking on the adjacent lane. No doubt we shall revisit in the near future & maybe on the ground floor or downstairs 🤔 . Nice one chaps.

Excellent staff and food couldn't do enough for us

Found this place by chance. Was looking at deals on wowcher and seen this place was on there on an offer. I bought the offer for 2 courses for 3 people for £35 with a pint or glass of house wine. Thought it was an excellent price. 👌 I booked online but somehow managed to only book for 2 so I called up the restaurant to see if they could change it to 3 and the boy I spoke to was lovely and said that they would juggle a few things around to accommodate us. Me, my partner and my daughter went along and were greeted at the door with another pleasant boy and seated at our table. We were each served a glass water and asked what menu we were dining from. We were given the menu for the deal and were amazed at the choice available on a set menu, there was something for every taste/diet of which you could even further adjust some dishes. ie. have duck or veg spring rolls, add chicken or prawn to the already delicious sounding curry. Another server came over to take our drinks order and she was also lovely. Chatty and polite. Our drinks arrived quickly, a pint of Grolsch, a house red wine and a draught cola. The house wine was very pleasant. We then ordered our food, starters was the tomato and basil bruschetta, haggis bon bons with whiskey cream and salt and chilli chicken. Each dish was delish and well presented 👌. For mains 2 of us opted for the fish and chips after seeing this arrive at the table next to us. The fish was cooked perfectly and batter was so light and crispy. The other main ordered was the bacon cheeseburger, which looked juicy and perfectly cooked. All in all, we had a lovely meal, food was excellent as was the service. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely too with a good choice of music playing in the background. For the price we paid on the deal, the food and drinks, service and restaurant overall, this was an absolute steal! Glad I came across this place and we will definitely be returning. First time visiting this lovely restaurant, thanks to an Itison voucher. Food was delicious, service by Connor was superb. Definitely a place I’d revisit!

I had lunch here with my wife. It was definitely one of the better lunches that we have had. The menu was excellent and the staff were super efficient and friendly. My wife can't eat very much due to surgery and they managed to amend her portion to just the right size for her which was a very nice touch. Food was piping hot and obviously freshly cooked Highly recommended and we will both be back again

Been here twice with a voucher recently - once with a close friend and most recently with few family members. Excellent food and service on both occasions. Fantastic value for money as the quality of the food was really good. I have one more voucher to use but will def be making this beautiful, friendly and vibey restaurant a firm favourite going forward. also gold stars to the very friendly and attentive watiing staff1! First time in here, but it won't be our last visit. The service was first class, and so too was the food. Both of our starters were excellent, and the Fish and chips for my wife' main course, was fresh, with light and crispy batter. The mussels I ordered, were without doubt, the best I've tasted from any restaurant I've ever ordered them from. They were cooked to perfection . Top marks to the kitchen, for serving up dishes that were so good .

We were most impressed with everything in the Velvet Sparrow. The restaurant was bright and clean. The food was delicious and nicely presented. The staff were so nice too. Would thoroughly recommend a visit as the cost of the meals were well worth the price.

Unfortunately I can't comment on much as they won't take our booking. My parents had popped in to make a booking and the staff seemed positive it would go ahead as there was space for the booking. We waited a call from the manager but had to phone them back. We were told we don't like to take big bookings on Fridays or Saturdays. Was excited to try here due to reviews. But disappointed they won't take our special birthday booking even though its 3 weeks away so they have plenty of notice. Won't be eating here. Very disappointing they won't take a large booking on Friday or Saturday but would offer Thursday or Sunday. No use to us if people have work the next day and travel to get there when it's meant to be a celebration
