Vasis in Camden

We were about to book a visit to Vasis, and have learned it has closed! We are devastated. It was such a cosy, old-fashioned Cypriot Greek place of the type we adore. All the favourite dishes, not too "modern" style which is so off-putting.. all that minimalist decor and fancy food "design" that I loathe... three chips in a little flower vase .. raspberry coulis on the plate spelling out "You're a mug" round the tiny chop... :-) Nothing like that at Vasis... oh well, there's that nice place near the British Museum...

I can not believe it BUT Vasis is no more. and all down to lease increase's. a part of my life for years and now this has ended. But thank you for all the fabulous meals.

También pudimos disfrutar de la vida al aire libre, más griego. El personal no podría haber sido más acogedor y agradable como es a menudo el caso en auténticos restaurantes griegos. El lugar en sí es básico y agrega el encanto general. Su humilde exterior significa que no podría, pero aviso busque y pruébalo!

Still miss living round the corner from Vasis. Use to eat 3 times a week now maybe once a month but still always love it. Food, wine and friends. What more can you ask for. Happy days. Cheers

We visited Vasis on Monday together with my family, 4 people at all. We met a very friendly and charming waiter and a also very friendly waitress. For diner we ordered several starters and main courses. All of them tasted excellent, especially the cooked lamb.

In the center of Fitzrovia, an amazing place with delicious Greek food, generous portions, friendly staff and nice Greek music. A good choice for a relaxing evening!

Family run restaurant that serves really good authentic food and has a great atmosphere. We were well looked after by the owners who added to a very enjoyable night. Would definately eat here again.

Orgullosos de servir pescados muy frescos preparados de una manera que permite gozar plenamente los sabores del pez. Platos caseros muy bien hechos y muy buenos! Y su baclava de postre hecha en casa una maravilla. Muy recomendable!

In a world where everything seems to be changing, getting knocked down, being rebult, jazzed up and redone it's noce to find somewhere that feels just as it did years ago. This is traditional Greek and reminds me of what all the tavernas in and around Charlotte Street used to look at back in the 1980s and 90s.

Teníamos un grupo grande de casi 20 personas y fueron atendidos de manera impecable. La comida fue servida rápidamente, teníamos que era dleicious meze y abundante para todos, verduras y veganos fueron atendidos sustancialmente. Andy es un maravilloso anfitrión, no hay petición demasiado. Sin duda volveré.

This Resturant is very friendly and a really good traditional Greek food, we were never rushed into ordering or vacating our table. The owner is always ready to assist when you are undecided what to choose.

Todos lo pasamos de Meze y todos pensaron que la comida era realmente excelente, la mejor comida griega que hemos probado jamás! Teníamos vegetariana y los huéspedes vegetarianos que también los dos pensamos su comida era excepcional. El servicio fue rápido y el personal encantador. Gracias a Andy y su equipo por una noche maravillosa e inolvidable.

We had two tables of 11 and 14 in the main restaurant for our work Christmas team lunch and the service was amazing. Everyone enjoyed the food and the wine! Would definitely recommend to everyone and would love to return!

Hace poco organicé mi 30 cumpleaños en celebraciones de Vasis y tuvimos la noche más maravillosa! Alquilamos la habitación privada en planta baja, con más de 50 asistentes. La música, el ambiente y la comida era perfecta. En particular, me sentí completamente cuidado por el maravilloso personal, especialmente Andy, que ayudó a organizar la noche desde la marcha. La comida era realmente excepcional, la mayoría de los huéspedes pidió la lubina, que era fresco y cocinado a la perfección. Los platos mezze también eran deliciosos, junto con algunos de clase alta vino rojo y blanco. La noche culminó en la placa, aplastando y música - tanto complementarios! Todos pasamos un tiempo fantástico y recomiendo encarecidamente este encantador restaurante a cualquiera que quiera celebrar celebraciones similares. Efcharistó!

A very nice place to eat with great authentic Greek food music, and very kind and attentive staff...

Family owned, has an old times charm in a good way! Very nice Greek music, table cloth & candles. Food was mostly delicious, except for the rice which wasn't that nice. Wine - nothing comes by the glass but bottles are fairly priced & it was perfect for the 3 of us. I would grant it 5 stars if they had more vegetarian mains other than the veg Moussaka (which was good), come on, make those amazing stuffed veg like I had in Greece :) service was good. We will return.

Great Greek restaurant in the shadow of the BT tower. Warm welcome received from fun friendly staff. Service was fast and efficient. Food quality was high, portion sizes generous and prices reasonable. Well worth a visit.

The place is small , but the food is excellent and so the the attention. The owners are wonderful people , very nice. I would recommend the lamb , the musaka and the fish (fresh fish every day ) Also the wine is fresh and perfect for this fresh type of food. We have been a couple of times and we will come back soon !

Éramos un grupo de 10, menores de 4 a 89 y todos disfrutamos de la noche. (no ofrecen comidas para los niños, pero nos alegra un plato y había suficientes de nosotros para contribuir a la comida poco hombre! ! )

Si buscas un auténtico restaurante griego con carácter este es el lugar. Ha sido ir VASI por sus siglas en por más de cuarenta años. Estoy seguro de que no ha cambiado mucho. Misma comida maravillosa, el servicio amable e incluso en una noche tranquila el martes, un ambiente real. Tuve un arranque de una adecuada a ajo tztatziki seguido por una maravillosa lubina acompañada de un tamaño considerable y lados de patatas arroz. Fue genial. No hay nada flash sobre este lugar, pero lo que hace realmente bien. Sin duda, volveremos.

Dined here as a party of 10 to celebrate a birthday. The food was very good we had a selection of starters to begin all of which were very good. The mains were delicious too and everyone enjoyed their meal. The owners were very friendly. I wouldn't hesitate on returning if I was in the area.

Great meal - friendly service. Prawns were great. Had dessert to go and it was wonderful back at our hotel.

I met an old friend here for lunch at his suggestion. The area used to be well known for small, authentic family run Greek Cypriot restaurants, but most are now sadly gone, along with the ad agencies that supplied so much of the lunchtime trade. But Vasis, the best of that type, survives. TripAdvisor had alerted me to the quality of the fish, so after Mezze to start - perfect home made houmous, tsatsiki and taramosalata - I had fresh grilled sardines. Perfect in every way, and prepared the Greek way with just olive oil and lemon. The rice, potatoes and Greek salad were good too, but unfinished due to lack of room! Greek wines are a closed book to me but the owner made a recommendation that we were very happy with. Finished off with a tiny baclava and Greek coffee, it was a lunch that couldn't be bettered. I can't wait to come back with my wife.

Después de probar todo tipo de salsas y especias tan de moda en casi cualquier sitio de Londres, me quedo con este sitio donde me sirvieron una dorada al horno exquisita que no necesitaba más aditivos que unas gotas de limón. El dueño del restaurante, un señor mayor amabilísimo, nos hizo la estancia de lo más agradable. Un sitio pequeño, pero muy acogedor, en el que sin duda repetiría tanto por el trato recibido como por la cantidad y la calidad de toda la comida que nos sirvieron.

Once again Vasis was fantastic. My meal was simple, a plate of smoked salmon, followed by sea bass. I was greeted with the warmth and friendliness I somehow take for granted here.Complimentary olives, peppers and carrot arrived on my table.I was dining alone, but did not feel lonely.The smoked salmon was a generous portion and of the finest quality, served with garnish and lemon.The main course was a complete fish grilled to perfection.Nothing else to say except I will be returning soon when I am next in London.

Se trata de un restaurante muy pequeño y familiar. La sala es acogedora, el ambiente agradable y la familia que lo lleva muy atenta. Se llena enseguida, hay que llegar temprano para conseguir mesa. La carta es variada, con platos tradicionales, pero que no son los que sueles encontrar en un restaurante de los que se llaman griegos: pescado muy bueno y fresco, costillas de cordero (gruesas), cordero al horno.. Y primeros ideales para compartir. Todo muy bueno. Las raciones, muy generosas. Un pero: el arroz blanco con el que acompañan algunos segundos es insípido. Música griega tradicional de fondo (muy suave). Con suerte, si eres español es posible que te obsequien con Julio Iglesias.

Second visit. Once again, lovely food, excellent atmosphere, friendly and welcoming place to eat. Will be returning.

We were staying in the Fitzrovia area of London (near the BT Tower) and came across the Vasis restaurant on our way to our hotel. Real bit of luck as we went back for dinner and had a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Excellent, friendly family run restaurant with authentic food. Excellent welcome and typical good Greek menu. I had the Kleftico and my wife had Stifado. Both just melted in the mouth. Service was smooth and personal and price was very reasonable for food and wine. We would definitely recommend you search out this place and will look to go back next time we are in London.

I've been to many restaurants in London and in Greece and this food was honestly amazing, cooked so well!! The owner was lovely and made us feel so welcome, can't wait to come back!

I visited Vassis for a work event with colleagues and clients.There were ten of us in the group and were made welcome by Andy the owner.This is my first visit although others had been before so I will give you an unbiased view.The atmosphere was great the staff were on hand to ensure you had all you wanted but were never intrusive.The food was excellent the lamb was cooked perfectly and fell of the bone.I had the Sea Bass off the bone which was beautifully presented and was coked perfectly.The alcohol flowed all evening and no glass was ever empty and we were never made to feel that we were hogging a table even though it was a busy Wednesday night.The place was very busy with bookings and walk in's which just proves what a great restaurant it is.Good value for money, I would definitely go back and would recommend it to any one who wants a good meal with nice people.

Ate here last night with a large group of friends. A warm welcome greeted us from the owner and all the staff. Food was outstanding. Not sure whether I should post this review as I actually want to keep this for myself. Have a try of this hidden gem You will be pleasently surprised.

Truly wonderful.Starters- 2 x Sardines & 2 x Prawn Cocktail.Mains - Steak, chicken Shashlik, Lamb Shashlik, Lamb KlefticoAll absolutely amazing. Cooked fresh and served with rice & roast potatoes. Ordered extra potion of chips & a Greek salad.Chips were to die for. Homemade and stunning. Desert - Ice cream & Homemade Baclava Can't fault any of the food whatsoever.Service second to none.would we return - Most definately.

I stopped in on a Friday night with no reservation. I was immediately seated by the friendly waiter, who I suspect is also the owner. I ordered the tzatziki with pitas, stuffed grape leaves appetizer, and the roasted lamb shank. I was happily not disappointed with any of my selections and would highly recommend them. The baklava dessert is some of the best I have ever had, and along with the other food is freshly prepared with the taste of home cooking. I would highly recommend this place!

We met our friend Park from Korea and took him to Vasis for dinner. As always the food was delicious, the service very good and friendly and a very welcoming atmosphere. I can thoroughly recommend this small piece of Greece in the centre of London.

Came here with friends for lunch. We had the calamari for starters, which was delicious. We had the sea bass for the main course. You can either have the fish on the bone or they can debone it for you. The fish was really fresh and it was served with roast potatoes and rice. Good size portions. The owner is very friendly and can tell you some great stories. Will definitely visit again.

Visited this restaurant for the first time for my wife's birthday after many visits to a rival establishment nearby.Have to say I wish had not waited so long, the food, service and hospitality was excellent.This is now my Greek restaurant of choice when in London.The souvlaki were cooked to perfection and the baklava was to die for.Regrettably I didn't catch our waiters name but he was very friendly and took time to chat with us and made a fuss of my wife as it was her birthday.Thank you all at Vasis.

We were recommended to this restaurant after we found our usual one had closed down. All food is home cooked and made on the premises. The home made hummus was lovely and we ordered the superb kleftico for main which had been slow cooking for 7 hours. The chef proudly showed us the huge tray sizzling in the oven. This was the first day back after their New Year break so there was no time to prepare the usual array of home made desserts which I am sure would have been superb!

Wow, and am I glad I did?! I was tired, hungover, early for an appointment and was starving. I was actually trying to hunt an Indian Restaurant down and then I walked past this place. It was 1pm, very quiet and I had no reservation. Within half hour it was mobbed. I had Tsatsiki to start, followed by their home made Moussaka. OH MY WORD! Both dishes were stunning and it was the best Moussaka I have ever had. All this washed down with 4 Cypriot beers and a bottle of water. Just over £30...BARGAIN! The owners / waiters / chefs are clearly family or very close. They make team work look easy! Highly impressed and would strongly recommend.

I stumbled across this intimate Greek restaurant and they welcomed me, without a booking, around 6:30pm on a Saturday. The avocado with taramasalata was a very substantial portion; the avocado was perfectly ripe, and the taramasalata was just as it should be. The kleftiko (lamb shank), cooked 4 hours with thyme and onions, was another large portion, accompanied by both nicely roasted potatoes and rice. It fell off the bone, and was full of flavor. It was good value for money.

Super service and good food. I haven't been to a greek restaurant for ages, but dropped in here on a thursday evening. The place was full, obviously with returning guests. The service was quick, and my mushrooms came within minutes. The same with my lamb souvlaki, which was grilled and tasted very good. Family run, good prices. Just go there.

Had a fantastic evening at Vasis on the 28th October. Food, service and atmosphere were perfect. Thanks to the team at Vasis for making my wife's birthday dinner a success.

Vasis is a small, cozy restaurant with good food. The two of us had the kleftiko, which was very tender and tasty, in its own juice without any vegetables (to our surprise – but all restaurants have their own versions). It was served with a side salad and potatoes that must have been boiled first and then roasted for a bit. An excellent bottle of Greek wine accompanied our meal. For dessert we both had the baklava, which was one of the best we’ve ever eaten at a restaurant outside of Greece. The prices are reasonable, and the service was polite and attentive. All in all, we were pleased with our meal.

Came across this place by chance on a Saturday night and they managed to squeeze 5 of us in despite not having a reservation. Lovely atmosphere, very friendly family run place. The food is reasonably priced (especially considering you are in London) and everything was delicious. The homemade baklava was particularly good.

We had an early meal at Vasis, on a lovely night, sat outside the restaurant. The service was very good & the food was served promptly, hot and was very tasty. I followed reviews saying that the kleftico was very good, and it was indeed. My wife had the souvlaki which again was very good. We shared taramasalata to start, which was very tasty & served with warm pitta bread. The food and the drinks were very reasonable, and we will return again!

A gluten free and vegan person can eat here! The food was reasonably priced and really good! The staff was nice and welcoming!

We were really looking forward to our meal here, having pre booked,and loving Greek food. We had a bottle of wine which was quite nice but the food was a let down. The starters for us both was the calimari, it was ok but quite dry. We asked for the meze for two but it wasn't available so we opted for the mixed grill and sea bass that the owner was pushing on everyone. Well, the mixed grill was so dry it could barely be eaten, and the sea bass was tasteless and full of bones, we were also given a plate of frozen roast potatoes. Very disappointed in this place and will not return.

We visited as a group of 8 and were met by the maitre d' who was funny, charming and perfectly attentive to our order. The food is fabulous and and cooked perfectly. We would definitely return

My mom and I stumbled upon this place when in London recently, and loved the food and the atmosphere. The food was awesome and the service was fantastic. This is a great family run place, and they were able to squeeze us in even through the restaurant was slammed.

4 of us went for a meal on Friday evening. Very friendly and welcoming family. On to the food..... 2 of us had lamb shank which just fell off the bone, one had a lovely large fresh sea bass and one a moussaka. The quality and portions were excellent. Our starter was a meze which one was shared between the 4 of us at one of the brothers suggestion. Perfect!With a bottle of wine and 3 beers the bill was about £30 a head. A fruit plate with the compliments of the restaurant was provided. Nice touch from one of the few remaining true local family restaurants.

If you are in London make the journey to Vasis, as big foodies and many fine dining experiences (Waterside; Fat Duck; Hand & Flowers to name a few), for friendly, tasty, generous portions and best quality fish and meat you'll ever try, Vasis is just the best. Every time we go we ask ourselves why did we move (used to live round the corner). Once you go to this family run restaurant, you will have to go back time and time again.

Ok, so lets start, a true family run restaurant with family values. The food is all fresh, everything is cooked fresh and the service as always is great. I can't recommend this place enough. Its a greek restaurant located at 50 maple street london, thats not far from great portland street subway station. I would say the average meal per person with soft drinks woud be about £23-£25 per person but well worth it to get fresh food freshly cooked.

I arranged a surprise trip to London to celebrate my Dad's 50th birthday and knew at some point in the weekend he would HAVE to have his favourite meal- beef stifado. I found Vasis and booked a table for 8. The communication was fantastic from the day I booked and every detail was though of from banners, balloons, table selection and allowing me to drop off the birthday cake earlier in the day. We were seated downstairs with two lovely hen parties and enjoyed a wonderful meal and night of belly dancing, plate smashing and a disco. We were made to feel welcome from the very beginning and it was definitely a night to remember. Thank you to you all.

I have been here for a Saturday night dinner. The location is quite old and not impressive at all, definitely it would need a restyling. The service is ok, while the food is on avergae, really nothing special. I expected much more.

We were looking for somewhere to eat after the play off final, but it was getting late and we couldn't find the place we had decided to go to. We came across this Greek restaurant and it looked nice so we went in. It was around 10 but it was okay for us to go in. The food came really quick. My dad had the lamb cutlets, my brother had lamb shank and I had the mixed souvlaki. The meat came with salad, rice and roast potatoes. My dad had ordered a Greek salad as a side but we probably didn't need it as when the food arrived there was so much anyway. We all enjoyed it. Unfortunately there was just too much and we couldn't finish it, but we were all impressed. The meals with 3 drinks cost £60. We were quite happy with this as we all enjoyed it.

I had a beautiful meal here tonight, choosing the Dover sole from the specials menu. Beautifully cooked, helped no doubt by being cooked whole. Wonderfully friendly staff, particularly the owner, who was happy to chat for a long time. I will certainly come back and would recommend this restaurant to anyone with a genuine love of good food.

Visited with 7 colleagues, the MaitreD was very friendly and helpful and suggested sharing starters which were most enjoyable. A great selection of Greek food which were enjoyed by all the party. Excellent service at all times. Good wines and coffee. Highly recommended.

Have been here a number of times and the food has always been very good, with the Kleftico being a particular favourite. It's a family run place that is deservedly popular and therefore often busy.

Very homely feeling. Good comfort food. Slightly out of date decor but that can forgiven due to excellent service. I would definitely eat here again.

Just WOW, this little gem of a restaurant in the heart of London.My husband and I chose the Meze! There was so much food but we absolutely loved every dish that was served. There was a very friendly atmosphere with the sound of Greek music in the background, not too loud either and service was absolutely impeccable.We'll definitely be coming back!

Shhh! Keep this place a secret just between you and me. It is charmingly small small. Capacity twenty five? Lovingly Micro managed besides. The "staff" is an average young 60ish. The food is synthesized hip healthy and traditional. The Greek salad is quintessential with lots of red onions, fresh greens plus exquisitely fresh feta! The sea bream is moist and complete with a lovely understated butter sauce. Skip the potatoes in favor of the rice. The house red wine filled the bill. Great evening indeed.

This place is a real find, in this day and age, a family run joint with bags of individuality and character and terrific food. Andy is super friendly and full of interesting stories. The sea bass was sublime and the best baclava I have ever tasted

Great atmosphere, great food, great service and a lovely family in charge of Vasis. Conveniently located for a night out in the city too. Definitely a good choice and a nice change from all the niche hipster haunts.

My first visit to Vasis, found it with a friend after a day's sightseeing in London. It's so worth the 10 minutes walk from Warren Street to reach this restaurant. The food is superb, served by (I think) the owner and his wife. Beautifully cooked - my friend had Skate and loved hers, my lamb Kleftiko was perfect. Try the freshest of mint tea! Hearing conversations from other diners who were "regulars" to Vasis on their visits to London; it's easy to see why. A great meal to round off the day. Thank you!

Really pleased with our visit to this lovely restaurant. My Mrs favourite food is Greek, so after researching on trip advisor I booked a table here. The food was delicious, I particularly enjoyed the Kleftico , my Mrs the mousakka. The service was excellent, I really enjoyed conversing with Andy whose customers have included David Jason and the creators of Dangermouse!!! We will certainly return here it was a pleasure to dine here in every way.

Ten of us for dinner on my birthday and we all had a great time.The staff are very welcoming and can't do enough to make sure you enjoy your evening.The food is lovely. This restaurant has been going since the 1970s - owned by the same Greek couple - and it's easy to see why it still does so well.It is also exceptional value for money.

We walked in off the street after a late meeting. It was a Tuesday night, the place was packed but the owner made us very welcome and offered us a table after a short wait. The food was excellent! Felt like being on holiday in Greece. Great atmosphere. Loved it!

Go to Vasis Restaurant to enjoy good food, well prepared with quality ingredients. I think the owners set their suppliers high standards and this clearly shows itself in the meals I have eaten there. The chef serves up very good food and the front of house team are most welcoming with a smile of greeting and discreetly attentive during the meal. A characterful setting inside the restaurant as well. Recommended.

Ate here on my birthday having researched Greek Restaurants online. It didn't disappoint. The warm welcome, the quality of the food and the atmosphere was lovely. The menu is basic Greek done incredibly well. Will definitely be returning. The only thing I will mention was the pitta bread with the starter was burnt on one side but I'll forgive them that as the lamb kleftico that followed just fell off the bone and melted in the mouth. My husband had the stifado (he's a bit of a connoisseur having tried this in numerous restaurants on several Greek islands) and said it was one of the best ever. My daughter had chicken souvlaki also of a good standard. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We found this restaurant on a recent visit to London, just because I looked up the nearest Greek restaurant and then checked the reviews. We called in to make a reservation for 6:30pm and were met by typical Greek hospitality.We were hungry and opted for the fish meze, which was incredible. We had lots of starters - the "usual" tzatziki, taramsalata, hummous, pitta bread, halloumi etc and then the plates just kept coming out - sardines, sea bass, prawns, whitebait, squid plus greek salad, potatoes and rice. It was amazing! After all that my partner had a baklava (small but he said it was perfectly balanced) and I had vanilla ice cream.The service throughout was really friendly and we were made to feel very welcome even though it was our first visit. The restaurant is run by two brothers and a sister.All in all a fantastic meal and if we are in the area again we will be back.

Great place for our reunion lunch for 10 people who used to work together at The Middlesex Hospital RIP. Andy was very helpful and the food was great.

What can I say. This is a gem of a restaurant not only providing excellent food but wonderful service and hospitality. For starters my hubby and I shared Pastourma and garlic mushrooms, accompanied by warm pitta bread lovely. Our mains were Klefitiko and lamb shaslick, both a delight. We were to full to the brim therefore could not consider a sweet, however the hosts provided a home made strawberry tart (to die for) with candle to toast my birthday. My 50th birthday was made very special by lovely people. Thank you so much.

A delightful little family owned restaurant with good food and nice service ( though a 10 percent service charge was included in the bill) which I don't personnaly agree with as it should be left to the individual to reward on level of service. Food was tasty,hot and priced resonabley.

Once again a wonderful meal and lovely welcome, after a long day Christmas shopping, we would highly recommend this restaurant.

It's been a while since I or my friends came here, but we're always guaranteed a great welcome, fine food, laughter and a bill that never breaks the bank. We started with humus, taramasalata, tzatziki and halloumi cheese with pitta bread and to follow, kleftiko. I'm not sure I've ever eaten other than lamb. They do it so well, beautifully tender and it just falls off the bone. We managed a couple of bottles of very nice Greek red and for less than £40 per head. A great deal. I should have written about this before.

Me and my boyfriend had a lovely time in Vasis, very homely beautiful authentic Greek food. Great for a chilled week-day night or summer evening. The owners were so lovely believe they are a couple/Delicious!

if its home made Greek food you want then look no further, Vasis is small but large in friendliness and pure quality.

I first discovered Vasis last year in 2014 when someone took me there for a business lunch. it was the summer so we sat outside in the sun .It was a fabulous meal with great friendly service .Since then i have had quite a few dinners there with friends and family .The food is like home cooked greek and at a reasonable price.the restaurant has great lighting and ambience and a greek salad to die for!

Je viens de retourner chez Vasis avec un ami et la nourriture est toujours aussi bonne.J'avais l'habitude de déjeuner chez Vasis quand je travaillais dans le quartier d'Howland street.Le déjeuner était toujours aussi bon.Les plats étaient d'une grande fraicheur et sentaient bons la Grèce. J'ai pris du Tshajiki , salade grecque, salade d'aubergine et cotes d'agneau. Tout était de grande fraîcheur. Les patrons sont sympa et le vin est bon. Je reviendrai .....
