Camden Town has so much to offer, but for me personally it is ideal for couples or groups of friends, I would avoid bringing children as it gets extremely busy and there's not much for kids to see.Spend an afternoon scanning the market stalls, that sell things ranging from leather handbags to handmade jewellery. There are also lots of food stalls that serve a number of international delights....Turkish kebabs, Chinese noodles, Indian curries, Vietnamese style wraps, Belgium waffles, you name it Camden has it. I personally would recommend Kim Pho's Vietnamese street food it is so fresh and well worth every penny! There are also a number of funky bars or more traditional pubs, I favour the Elephants Head for a boozy day sesh or bantering on the roof terrace of the Hawley arms where the likes of Amy Winehouse used to mingle with the locals. Music is a massive part of Camden Town and once again it is not limited to just one genre keep your eyes peeled or should I say ears open for something that tickles your fancy at the Camden roundhouse or Koko's further down the Road.Whatever you do, whoever you meet and wherever you end up Camden Town is a place not to be missed.

"Colorful, exciting, clean, fun, interesting, safe. . . ." Not a combination of adjectives that are usually attributed to any one particular market, but the combo definitely works when speaking of Camden Town. Unless on a crowded Saturday, when one would be advised to beware of pickpockets. I have seen crowds in my life, but the hoards attempting to enter the gates on a Bank Holiday defied anything I've ever seen, including in India and China. Still, I can't think of Camden Town as being intrinsically "unsafe". That said, the weekday experience is every bit as "Colourful, exciting, clean, fun, interesting, safe. . . ." (much less crowded, so much less pickpocket-friendly) as that of a weekend, but way more comfortable. During the week, it is so much easier to access the stalls, including for street foods. Speaking of which, keep in mind that the group of food stalls beside Camden Locks (where it is pleasant to watch the narrow boats and others navigating their way through the different levels) close by 5 p.m. Not sure if this is the case on the weekends, or for the food stalls in the center of the market. Anyway, the food stalls by the locks are the way to go if you prefer South American and the like. Oh, and there are lots of tables at which to sit and eat. This is also the location of a cool used bookshop, Black Gull. Worth a browse, but don't let time get away from you if you want to eat at the stalls! I guess you'd like to know what you can find at the market: all manner of stuff, from second hand clothes (a tad pricey, in my opinion, but this is England), some local crafts, lots of imported crafts, new clothing, fashions you might not see elsewhere, artwork, to antiques in a proper antique shop, not a stall,. . . . If you have the energy to go into the more secluded areas (not to be confused with "unsafe") either downstairs, or upstairs, or through the alleyways, you'll come across a huge variety of shops. Some, less expensive than others. Some, rather high end. Great shopping for gifts from around the world. Compare prices at different stalls/shops, if you like. Gluten-free bakery if you go up the stairs, just past the public washrooms, which happen to be spotless and well-ventilated by open windows. By the way, a branch of my favorite shoe store in the whole world, Irregular Choice, at 209 Chalkfarm Road, just happens to be steps from the market itself. (If you're not familiar with Irregular Choice, pop in and feast your eyes. Many of the shoes can best be described as art pieces; I'd be pleased to put them on display in my home. The four pair that I own, however, are both gorgeous and comfortable! British made, as far as I know, and most unlike footwear you'd find anywhere else. And even by North American standards, not all that pricey for a great shoe considering we are speaking of the pound sterling. But not cheap.) All in all, Camden Town is very much a fun place to spend a few hours. Doesn't need to cost you anything. You can just go to people-watch, if that's your thing. Lots of photographic opportunities in the historic architecture. Yep! I'm glad I went (on two consecutive days). Oh, if you want an excellent Chinese meal in a sit-down restaurant, try Yum Cha on Chalkfarm Road, directly across from the market gates. The exterior suggests a dive, but the food? Simply the best Chinese food I've ever eaten anywhere! Camden Town is family-friendly, despite stairs in different areas.

We were about to book a visit to Vasis, and have learned it has closed! We are devastated. It was such a cosy, old-fashioned Cypriot Greek place of the type we adore. All the favourite dishes, not too "modern" style which is so off-putting.. all that minimalist decor and fancy food "design" that I loathe... three chips in a little flower vase .. raspberry coulis on the plate spelling out "You're a mug" round the tiny chop... :-) Nothing like that at Vasis... oh well, there's that nice place near the British Museum...
