The place was amazing food was great and Ali and Sayans customer service was splendid It’s a very beautiful venue. My family loves this place

Went with friends for a meal in Leicester. I have an allergy to dairy and wheat. I stayed that at the beginning and they said that's fine. I never normally have a problem eating out but I was shocked when I realised what I was eating had butter/ or cream in it. I noticed soon after eating that I wasn't feeling too well. They came over and took it back and brought another one but by then the damage was done. I did think it tasted creamy but I trusted them and thought maybe it was coconut cream. I was very ill afterwards and my throat swelled up and couldn't breathe properly. It's a very serious thing that a restaurant needs to listen when someone says they have an allergy because a person could have anaphylactic shock. Fortunately mine wasn't as severe but bad enough that I feel pretty sick. I never normally write a review let alone s bad one but this is serious! I hope that no one else suffers the same so just be careful when visiting this restaurant. The positive is that the decor is beautiful but I hope they're careful in the future and help the person to pick a dairy/wheat free meal.

Really lovely service and food! Enjoyed my meal and all the waiters are extremely friendly and tentative especially our host Sobur was very helpful and attentive. My husband and I were also given free dessert as we were celebrating our anniversary. For fine dining, it was reasonably priced and the portions were great.

The team were very sweet and helpful. Specifically our host Sobur was quick, friendly and attentive. Love the atmosphere in here, sophisticated and amazing. The selection of food delicious, every piece was perfectly cooked and served. Will definitely be back here soon.

My recent family dinner experience at this restaurant left me with mixed feelings. Let's start with the positives: the ambiance was delightful, the front desk was efficient, and the food was delicious. However, our enjoyment was marred by the arrogant behavior of some table staff and their odd demeanor several times. The worst part was waiting an excessive amount of time for confirmation on the bill payment. I must say, the shining stars of the evening were the manager and the management staff, who surprised us with their lack of professionalism and lack of attentiveness. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to face the customer service.

My second visit and we had an amazing experience again!! The food was delicious and our waiter Sufiyan was very helpful and gave fabulous suggestions. Would definitely recommend.

Wow! What a wonderful restaurant. Everything about it was impressive from the building, decor, staff and the food. We went on a Thursday night and although it was quiet, the atmosphere was still great. It’s an enormous restaurant that can do in excess of 300 covers but because of the way it’s laid out, it still felt intimate down on the lower floor. Sobur, our incredibly charming waiter, could not have been more attentive and went out of his way to make our evening special. The food was elegantly presented and every single dish we tried was utterly delicious. This is one of those restaurants where you don’t want to skip the starters. The salmon tikki was a total show stopper and the dhaniya methi murgh (fenugreek chicken) wonderful too. Ray, the charismatic manager, came over to talk to us at the end of the evening and his passion for the business was evident. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant and will look forward to returning next time we are in Birmingham.

Where do I start… The very second I entered this enchanted underground restaurant, the smell of incense blew me away, I knew I was in for a treat… The waiters/waitresses were extremely attentive and i must say this has to be the best Indian food I’ve had in the UK by a country mile!!! What an amazing boutique Indian restaurant at the heart of Leicester. Conveniently located on the High Street (round the corner from golf place), plus as we went after 6pm only £2 at the Highcross roof top car park (couple mins walk). We went for a corporate meal and it was great, from the mocktails (my favourite was the coconut!), to the friendly/ accommodating staff, food was delicious- suitable for all palettes (we were a diverse group), plus we got to meet the owner who was so humble and constantly made sure we had everything we needed. And the deco- gorgeous! Highly recommended for corporate events and parties/ socials.

Amazing place. GRAND atmosphere and the food was amazing. Staff really looked after us, especially Subur. Came all the way from London and I can tell you, it didn't disappoint. We had the mixed grill, lollipop chicken, lamb and chicken biryani plus the fabulous mock tails they had to offer. Will definitely coming back!

My Valentine's Day visit to Varanasi Birmingham was a rollercoaster of disappointment and slight redemption, heavily impacted by initial poor service and misleading communication. We arrived expecting an à la carte menu, only to discover a set menu exclusive for Valentine's Day, a detail minimally disclosed in our reservation email. The options felt lackluster, and the portion sizes were astonishingly small, not justifying the £70 per person cost. Upon realizing the limited menu didn't meet our expectations, we sought to refund our deposit rather than accept the unsatisfactory offer. However, management initially refused, leaving us to choose between eating the disappointing set menu or losing our £40 deposit. We decided to stay, though the average-tasting food served in minuscule portions only deepened our frustration. Our experience began to turn after persistent conversations with multiple waiters and eventually the senior management, who proved to be somewhat helpful. After much insistence and discussing our concerns about the evening's misgivings, we were finally granted additional food portions, which slightly mitigated our earlier disappointment. Furthermore, our request to move to a more desirable, vacant table was initially met with inexplicable resistance from our waiter, who was notably rude and unaccommodating. It took us asking around 5-6 times, a testament to the lack of initial responsiveness, before we were finally relocated to the better table, despite it being visibly unoccupied throughout the evening. Although the senior manager eventually assisted in addressing some of our concerns, and we were moved to a better table after persistent requests, the overall service left much to be desired. The imposition of a £20 service charge on our bill felt like a final disregard for the evening's earlier shortcomings. This Valentine's Day dinner at Varanasi Birmingham was far from the enjoyable experience I had anticipated. While there were efforts to rectify the situation, the initial service failures and lack of consideration for customer satisfaction were significant drawbacks. Prospective diners should weigh these factors carefully. While our night ended on a somewhat positive note, thanks to the senior manager's intervention, the journey there was unnecessarily challenging and disappointing.

This place has just raised the bar in my estimation and if I could give 10 points I would. The place. The service. The food. The staff. Everything about this place is an experience. Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic. If you like Indian fine dining then you’re missing out if you don’t go here.

Delicious, had a cocktail which was lovely. I had poppadoms, the king prawn in cheif’s special spiced sauce with a garlic naan, pilau rice, cannot fault the food. Enjoyed it entirely, naan was fresh loved it. On the expensive side, it was £125 for 2 people. Husband got the lamb shank he loved it too. Attentive waiting staff, no sitting around frustrated wanting to pay or order. Beautiful interior design, very fancy. If you want a posh special date night meal to impress, I highly recommend!

Service is good, the food was good but the potions are a bit on the small side. Presentation was great but I feel that the lighting is low, the place and decor is wonderful and the entrance is great, good for special occasions as it's a bit pricey and you have to book before hand and pay a deposit.

The service is amazing! And the place looks and feels very luxurious! I lov it. The food is amazing! Well sized portions and a large variety of options. Meat and chicken are Halal and they have a good collection of mocktails. Just be careful with desserts because some of them have alcohol. I asked one of the staff and they helped me understand which options are halal and which are not. For the price, I am not sure about Birmingham standards but for someone coming from London it's a really good price for value and I was happy to leave a tip because the service was really amazing! Service: 2/5 The main guy who served our party was funny and quite nice. However, when it came to paying the bill it was extremely frustrating (as we was a larger party), some items on the bill were priced higher than on their website and menu - this was not sorted out professionally and we’re still going back and forth with them about this, as some did not realise they paid more than they should have until they checked the menus again, once they got home. Not only that but they originally tried to charge us for the popadoms; we were asked by one of the members of staff if we would like popadoms (this was before our orders were put through), and since there was no mention of cost, we assumed they was complimentary. They did take them off the bill in the end. Food 4/5: The Lamb Karahi in special desi sauce is absolutely lovely. I also had garlic naan and pilau rice - both amazing. The summer fruit cheesecake however isn’t to my liking, not enough biscuit base. I also had the karma mock tail which was okay - but unfortunately way too sweet for me. A wonderfully stylish and aesthetically impacting restaurant. The elegance and theatre of entering is beyond anything in Birmingham. Sadly, the rest doesn't meet the same standards. The food was good, albeit a bit bland although reasonably priced. The service was a little hit and miss but very polite. The frustrating bit was being charged £13.50 for a small bottle of beer, which would have cost less than £1.50 from bookers. Our table of 6 had about 14 bottles, not realising the cost, so that unpleasantly increased the bill by £190!

Decor was lovely but the food was underwhelming a hit and miss Chicken dish was so sweet and tasteless Panipuri was not nice and very dry. Kept waiting a long time for our starters , kept reminding servers for our food. Chicken lollypops were tasty and the coconut panna cotta was delish Lighting a little too dark for my liking, tables were i felt were so crammed you can hear other tables diners conversing.

Great restaurant with superb ambience . A bit on the pricey side but worth it for the special occasion. There are multiple paid parkings available near by. Food was tasty and presented beautifully. Each and every dish was prepared to perfection. Special thanks to the Varanasi team and specially Kamaal for making our visit special. We will visit again.

1) I was expecting the food to be amazing but it wasn't considering the hype and prices. If i had no other choice then probably don't mind eating here but Birmingham is full of so many nice restaurants (with better service). 2) Wait time for food was very long that I lost my appetite by the time it arrived and was ready to go home without eating. Had to ask twice for starters. 3) The service wasn't great. The waiters looked like they'd had enough and were snappy a couple of times, you don't want that experience at 'fine dining'. Someone also dropped curry on my jacket which was a nice surprise to find. To be honest i wouldnt return or recommend. Very unimpressed by everything today. oh and plates were dirty.

Decora impressive but the food is bland

Travelled from Peterborough for the weekend to shop and to specifically eat here after a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. Super friendly staff, exquisite decor and amazing food. We were very happy with our experience and my wife said of all the places you can dine at in Birmingham she would like to come back here.

It was only pointed out after we had eaten that this is a halal restaurant which is heavily disguised as a pure Indian restaurant with even the name bearing a strong connotation to India - feel let down to be fair

Food was decent. The reason for the one star is that it's an Indian restaurant with no signage that they serve Halal food. Really disappointed with lack of communication from staff over this.

I visited the restaurant with view of booking it for a party, the Entrance was amazing howeve I was horrified to find Lord Buddha statue on the floor and on the wall near toilets, what a place to put a statue, you wouldn’t put a Jesus’s statue or the Quran nextthe toilet, this is totally disrespectful to any religion to have a statue near a toilet or any religious symbol. This is an absolute Gem in Birmingham. everything is designed to impress and amaze you, from the interiors to the presentation of the food itself. Only criticism would probably be service charge as I prefer to tip the staff that provide a good service substantially more (then what the service charge was) when the service is first class. So apologies guys! But I understand they need to cover their costs as not everyone is as generous. But definitely will be visiting again.
