I went to Vanilla after searching on Google for a salon in Cheltenham. There's a reason they have 5* reviews is they are absolutely excellent! I've always struggled to find someone who consistently does my hair as I want it - but Amelie definitely has. She listened to what I wanted in the consultation and did wonders when she did my hair. She is professional and patient. Amelie listens to feedback on prior colouring and cuts and tweaks it so now my hair is just right (everytime!). Even saved the day after a mobile hairdresser messed my hair up - and did it with no judgement! The atmosphere is also fabulous in the salon and you can get a nice hot drink too! There's even a massager on the hair washing chairs!

Am over the moon with my balayage at Vanilla hair. Amelie did my hair and she took so much care and paid so much attention to detail with it. The results are phenomenal, Amelie is very talented. Everyone in the salon is really friendly and it has a lovely atmosphere! 5 stars and more 🌟

I've seen Amelie twice now for my hair. The first time was a full day with colour correction (bleach bath, foils, toner) and styling and this time a little colour correction with foils and toner followed by styling. My hair looks glam yet natural and feels fantastic and I've so many compliments on it. Amelie is also easy to chat to, professional and puts the health of your hair first which is super important, she is seriously talented and born to be a hairdresser.

Would give 6 stars if i could. Never have I had someone give more attention to detail and care to my hair than when I went to Ben for my haircut. He gave me all the advice I could ever want on how to care for my hair, and what products to use when styling. All around absolutely fantastic experience, if you want a haircut done right, i highly, HIGHLY recommend this place!

Visiting family here in Cheltenham from Canada and I can honestly say this restaurant will be one of my reasons to return. Food was exceptionally delicious, beautifully presented and served with a smile. It's obvious the chef has a lot of pride in his work and deservedly so! Visited this restaurant with my boyfriend for dinner. Along with our main course we had an appetizer and dessert all of which was brought out by our very friendly and helpful server (good looking man in his 40's) in a timely manner . Restaurant is well kept, clean with a buzzing ambiance. Loved it. All this AND reasonably priced. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We came to this restaurant on 17th May with a Groupon voucher and really enjoyed our visit to this restaurant, and the meal was delicious. Due to our first visit we decided to return, but the visit this week-end ... disappointing, very disappointing. The meal was delicious again, top marks to the chef, but the man who served us was rude, unfriendly, and unhelpful. He's an older chap in his 40s / 50s, so at his age you'd really expect professional service. The meals are not big portions and not terribly filling, but they are delicious. The restaurant is clean, it's just the service that let it down terribly on this visit.

Once done, other diners started to arrive rapidly and within 10 minutes there were 20 people. Our starters arrived quickly, and were delicious, followed similarly by the main, also delicious.Noisy and buzzy atmosphere, which was good.Bill had a 10% service charge already added....I haven't seen this for years!Altogether, we were very satisfied.

I recently took my father to vanilla for dinner for his 70th birthday celebration. It was one of the best evenings we have all experienced in years and my dad was so happy with the meal, the exceptional service and how friendly and genuine everyone was, we all really felt like the place was all making a huge effort especially for us and felt very special and personal. The venue is absolutely stunning and like no other in the area in fact there is no where else like this place in the whole of Gloucestershire. The staff chatted to us all nite and we even joined them and the owner at the bar for a drink at the end of our meal which was a nice sociable touch. Vanilla feels like a family and a friend and one of the most welcoming places. We had the taster menu which when we talked to the chef it satisfies you but doesn't leave you feeling over full, and was the most beautifully presented food with a contemporary touch but very wholesome too. My dad is very fussy and doesn't like trying new things but even he was over the moon with the food and everything about the place! He is a hard customer to please and I was nervous about taking him out but he said it was one of the best experiences he has had in terms of nites out. Fantastic vanilla thank you for this great nite and for building many special memories xx

I ate here one evening a couple of weeks ago when on a solo visit to Cheltenham for family reasons. I had been looking forward to visiting Vanilla as my grandfather used to own the wonderful Georgian style property in whose basement this restaurant is sited - fittingly, as the basement used to be my grandfather's kitchen where he would do a lot of preserving and chutney-making, as well as cooking. The soup was delicious, and main course tasty and beautifully cooked. So why did it feel simply 'OK' as an experience? The main thing was that the staff didn't seem particularly engaged in their activities. I needed some water, and later I was ready for the bill, and on both occasions it took effort and a lot of patience to attract their attention. I will never forget the three - yes, three - tables served with the wrong bill, and the starters of one of those tables had simply been forgotten by the waiter so they had to dive straight into their main course. Dreadful! Even though the menu isn't cheap, when my bill eventually arrived I found a 10% service charge automatically added into the total. I strongly disapprove of that practice and, regrettably, won't be eating here again.

I very rarely write reviews, good or bad, but I feel this restaurant no way deserves the score it has!Went on a Saturday night as a group of 4 girls. Out of 4 only one was happy with her food- fish dish, although she did point out that it was not worth £16+ price tag.The rest of the food- chicken liver, brie tart and duck breast...very poor! That however was not the reason why I decided to review this place! It was the absolutely terrible service! From the first guy getting the order wrong to the last person not knowing what was what on the dessert menu. All of the staff just acted like they were doing you a favour! To top that off when we've asked for the bill we had to wait 30min for it! With most of the staff just casually walking up and down, hanging around the bar area and chatting loudly. Every time we've waived for the bill we were just ignored!! It then got taken to a table next to us! At that point I have already decided that these people do not deserve a penny in tip, but they probably plan for this as the service charge was already included! Ok, its optional, but with my friend (the same one that was waving for the bill) heavily pregnant and the fact that we've just wasted half an hour sitting there already, we thought it wasn't worth arguing with them..Can't understand why its so highly rated...its just not good!!! So many better places in Cheltenham!

I don't usually do the normal obligatory bread they put in front of you, but this was beautifully done. The service was also very attentive, not hurried, very relaxing. I have no complaints at all about the food. My only observation would be about knowing this place is there and open. Booked the six course tasting menu via a deal website, so glad we did! We would never have known about this little wonder otherwise, the staff were lovely and the food was delicious. Food was freshly produced and wonderfully presented, the courses started off small but grew in size up to the main course. A taster menu was on offer along with lunch and a la carte. All three courses were first class. All dishes were well thought out and presented in very stylish fashion. I went to Vanilla with my husband and another couple. It was a Thursday evening so I was delighted that the restaurant was busy. We all had the six course tasting menu. The food was beautifully presented. I particularly liked the beetroot and goats cheese salad. The belly pork was to die for with a caramelised crispy top and melt in the mouth meat. The only reason I haven't given it five stars is due to the lack of table cloths and my husband pointed out that beige/ brown plates did nothing to enhance the presentation of the food and I had to agree that white crockery would have been better. I can't criticise the food. I will definitely go back.

We enjoyed our meal here using the early bird offer. The food was obviously carefully prepared, but I thought the portions were rather small for a main meal. By contrast some of the group had sandwiches, and these were too much for most of them to finish! Those on the early bird offer helped out the others by eating some of the sandwiches! I suggest that portion sizes should be reviewed. Service was also quite slow, but that might have been down to the size of the group.

I chose this restaurant from the internet and booked for our walking group of 14. After a 5 mile walk on a cold and towards the end wet January day around Cheltenham we were greeted by several friendly and helpful staff who took our wet coats to dry off. The table was nicely laid out with jugs of tap water already on the table. Hot or cold drinks were immediately offered and arrived quickly. Many of us went for the 2 course early bird menu, excellent vale and good quality well presented food although the servings were a bit small. Others went for the sandwiches which were very generous portions. Only minus point is that bread had to be paid for and we all felt that a restaurant of this quality should provide bread at least with the starters. Having said that we had a very enjoyable couple of hours in a nice friendly atmosphere in the heart of Cheltenham. I am sure a number of us will visit again when next in Cheltenham

We live overseas, but visit Cheltenham a couple of times a year. We popped into Vanilla on January 9 for a light lunch, and for an evening meal on January 15.Vanilla is not a cheap restaurant, but in view of the quality of the food, service and ambiance that's no surprise. Our light lunch consisted of a quality steak sandwich, well cooked and prepared, and a very tasty fillet of trout and risotto, both washed down with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a large mineral water and double espresso. We also enjoyed the bread platter of several different breads and butter or olive oil and balsamic dip; just the job while waiting for the mains to arrive. The restaurant currently has a luncheon menu, an 'a la carte' menu, and what they call a 'tasting menu' which, if I have it correctly, is a mini selection of some of the main dishes from the larger menus. A great idea, but even if classed as a 'tasting menu' you will need a goodly appetite to get through all the goodies !For our evening meal we went straight to the main courses with one pork belly and a Sea Bass fillet. Both excellent and just the right size. This was followed by a delicious, and intriguing, olive oil and chocolate mousse. The house red wine is to be recommended, and again we enjoyed the bread selection at the start while awaiting the main food. Our bill for the lunch was £34.80 and £58.95 for the evening meal. All staff were at all times very pleasant and efficient, which is as important as the food.We will be back when we visit Cheltenham again in summer. Its worth noting that there is pleasant (limited) outside seating when the weather is good.

I have met many young women who organise every Saturday around, returning recent purchases. They will tell you that they have to take back something that they recently bought because, "it is not suitable". Most stores will accept the item back and give a refund, however, they are not under a legal obligation to do so unless the goods are faulty. These women get very angry when they are refused a refund and often want to tell the world how bad the Stores service or product is, and the store has lost a good customer. Phaa.In restaurants, a waitress/waiter, will always visit the table and ask if everything is satisfactory. If not, this gives them the opportunity to make an adjustment to the experience, so as to rectify it in some way which is within their means. They will often ask the customer, "What can they do to rectify the complaint before it spoils the evening?" In Mr John Ds' account, he seems to have ample opportunity to have expressed his complaint and desire for compensation during the meal but said nothing until the very end. He must be aware that managers placed in that situation do not have the same scope as would an owner, and seems satisfied with the offer of compensation made by the waiter but still insisted on a financial reduction.Being a regular diner at Vanillas, and knowing the owner, manager and some of the staff very well, I was shocked to read Mr.John D's version of the events. However, despite him being a regular to Trip Advisor, with 17 entries, there is something which stands out as possibly suspicious?Despite stating that he had visited Vanillas a number of occasions and being exceptionally pleased with both the food and service, he has only ever given anybody 3 "excellent" reviews. The rest of his reviews are as follows:5 TERRIBLE5 AVERAGE2 POOR2 VERY GOODPerhaps his reviews are dependant on the size of the refund he was given?I know that there is a term for people who return clothes demanding a refund,- "Non Shoppers" Perhaps we should introduce a term for those who habitually demand refunds at Restaurants,"Non Diners ?"

Had a really great night, last night with friends and colleagues. Simple plan to choose this place online and book our orders for Xmas food. It was all very easy for 10 of us, no presh and certainly no bother by the staff who were all very helpful and attentative. It is a very busy place and there was so much going on. I thought we were looked after very well considering it was full of people. We'll be back for more soon, all very impressive food and service! ;)

We have visited Vanilla on a number of occasions over the past couple of years & have always been exceptionally pleased with both the food & the service. However our visit with family last night was probably the worst dining experience I have had in terms of the customer service. Before ordering we were informed one of the vegetarian options was not available, no big deal, my wife who is a vegetarian was perfectly happy with the other option and ordered that. For our starters we ordered a selection of breads and olives however only some of this arrived and after waiting about 5 minutes we had to remind the waiter that not all of our starters had arrived. He apologized and the remainder arrived after another few minutes; thankfully we didn't have hot starters so this was frustrating but not really a problem. After finishing starters the waiter returned & stated the vegetarian option two of our party had ordered was not available. Problem, we had already been told the only other vegetarian option was unavailable. When we pointed out this was a problem as there was no alternative vegetarian option there was initially confusion before the waiting staff decided that the first vegetarian option which was not available when we initially ordered was now available. Utterly confused we went with that.Confusion again ensued when our mains were brought out as the waiting staff took it upon themselves to announce the mains by totally different names to what they were on the menu meaning we had to try and guess which was for who & it wasn't always obvious even looking at the food! The noise level in the restaurant was deafening due to a large party which made the night rather stressful, we literally could not hear each other speak. I can understand big parties have to be accommodated but it would have been nice if they had told us there was a large party booked in when we booked so we could have booked a different date. I also think there is a lot they could do to reduce noise levels, perhaps by not packing so many tables so close together (where we sat I couldn't get out of my chair without bumping into the person behind me) or using the two different rooms they have a little better by keeping large parties in one room & small groups in the other. However, all of the above was minor to the experience when the bill arrived. An `optional 10% service charge` had been added. I generally tip at restaurants in the order of 10% if the service is good but I do object to restaurants adding this to the bill. It is an optional charge and should be up to the individual if they feel the service has been good. I asked for this to be removed as I pointed out the service had not been very good and the waitress duly took the bill away. A few minutes later another waiter came along to ask why we thought the service was not up to scratch & we explained to him. He was very understanding, apologized for the mix up with late food & availability & stated if we come back we should ask for him and he would ensure we were looked after. Excellent customer service I thought & was feeling much happier about the whole evening however 10 minutes later the revised bill had still not arrived. We kept glancing over at a member of staff (who we now know to be the manager) who was standing at the bar in the hope that eventually he would realise we were still waiting & come over. Sure enough he came over but the outburst we got was unexpected! 'Is there something you want sir' he shouted at my son, 'you keep staring at me'. I intervened & pointed out we were still waiting for the bill & had been for almost 15 minutes. 'I have already brought you the bill' he continued in a very aggressive manner to which I pointed out that we had asked for the service charge to be removed because the service had not been great. This pretty much turned into a full blown argument with him stating he 'knew they had provided good service' & clearly feeling the charge was justified & not optional & us trying desperately to explain why we felt the service was not what we would expect. Eventually the charge was removed and we left the building.Ultimately Vanilla has lost a good regular customer; I will not be going back purely because of the managers attitude. Not sure what has happened to the old staff we had become used to in Vanilla but they need to get them back quickly.

My wife and I have eaten at Vanilla three times now and the latest time was as good if not better than the previous two. The food was excellent quality and reasonably priced. Our only criticism was the wine price which we felt was too high for the 2 bottles we had. Whilst the wine we chose was one we had many times before in other restaurants and at home the price we paid was excessive. Despite this we would go again, maybe not having wine next time.

This was an early evening visit reflecting the end of a busy week and no interest in cooking by then. We'd rung the night before and ate at 6:15.It was quiet but the staff were friendly and the food excellent. The lower mark reflects the inclusion of a service charge in the bill which was optional and we had paid but then giving my husband the card reader to add a service charge before paying. Not sure if it was deliberate but having paid the service as added I didn't expect to be asked to pay again.

A very attractive restaurant, with exemplary service. We had the early bird special before going to the theatre. Mushroom Risotto was perfectly cooked, Chorizo, Red Pepper & Crouton Salad was very tasty. Couldn't fault either the Salmon Fishcake and Wilted Spinach & Chive Veloute, or the Chargrilled Cotswold Beef Burger, Hand Cut Chips, Leaf Salad . Vanilla Crème Brulee couldn't be improved, sadly treacle tart which tasted great had been spoilt by reheating somehow and rendering the pastry soggy (this however now seems normal in most restaurants)All for £14.50 eachThe only real negative was the policy of adding 10% optional service charge because it was a Saturday which clashes with our policy of not using restaurants that add optional service charges. Dooooooooooooh we will never know how good the A la Carte is :)

Sitting outside on a hot summer evening with friends, an overall top evening. The setting faces onto the cul de sac so no roaring traffic. The staff have it at just the right level, professional, good advice, atentive but not intrusive. The tapas, which we had to share as a starter, could have had less fatty meats and maybe some bresaola instead, but overall was delicious and the tomato chutney had a great deep flavour. I had sea bream for main course- best fish I've eaten in Cheltenham in a long time. Friends had the duck with beetroot which was also delicious. For dessert we asked to split a vanilla icecream order between a few of us and each had an esresso to go with it- their homemade vanilla ice cream is delicious as could be expected from the name! Good wine list- not too extensive but fun to explore. Fab u lous and absolutely perfect for a summer evening :)

Booked Vanilla for a group of 8 people and requested the Earlybird Menu. On arrival staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. They allowed us to sit outside for a drink before escorting us down to a lovely table in the restaurant. They didn't rush us in any way and all courses were delivered at our pace. They remained attentive throughout the evening and nothing was too much bother. The atmosphere was relaxed, friendly and fun. With a little bit of salsa dancing and lots of smiles the staff ensured we had a delightful evening. The food was of excellent quality, tasty, good portions and quality ingredients. The Earlybird menu was fantastic value for money and I would definitely recommend a visit!

Set in a back street of Cheltenham, it's easy to see why you might forget about Vanilla. I had previously been a few times many many years ago - we had always had excellent food and service. I But, I must admit I had completely forgotten about it. Well we went there for a quiet meal before the theatre and I have to say my wife and I were totally blown away. The staff were extremely accommodating and very polite but the food was out of this world. We will both DEFINITELY be returning soon! ... a new favourite!!

Never really add reviews for restaurants, reason for doing this one is the absolute rip off for soft drinks. All 3 courses were very nice and I'd eat here again in the future, however £3.75 for half a diet coke, half of which was ice! That's an utter disgrace! Honestly vanilla, how on earth can you justify charging this, I'd love to know?

Can not comment on food as we didn't eat, all I can comment on was the rudeness of the service - we had a meal booked for what we believe was 8 or possibly 8:30, I rang to confirm only to be told it was 7:45 - followed by a tut and then the phone was put down on me! We later found our email confirmation which proved the table was for 8:30, so out of courtesy we popped in on route to the pub where we were meeting the rest of our party to confirm this - we were completely ignored for what seemed like 10 minutes plus, only to finally be told - yes, whatever, that's fine! It was not as if they were that busy! Both my friend and myself were then left standing at the bar area in complete shock and both decided that we would not be eating there! Shocking service!

We stumbled across Vanilla whilst heading for the shopping centre and decided to return later for lunch. We eventually found the restaurant - there is also a beauty salon and hairdressers called Vanilla which are both above the restaurant which we accidentally went to first - in the basement. We were warmly greeted on arrival. The menu was lovely, there was a fixed price 2 or 3 course lunch plus all the usual sandwiches, salads, burgers etc. such a vast selection that we had difficulty making up our minds at all! We eventually settled on the 2 course lunch which was great value we thought at £11.95 (ish) We all chose the mushroom risotto which was actually on the menu as a starter but it was no trouble at all for us to have it as a main. It was absolutely delicious. We then had a crème brulee which was also delicious. The service was great, very friendly, our food arrived quickly. Nothing was too much trouble. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or to eat there again.

We came here for an early supper, before attending an event at the Town Hall, as we wanted somewhere within walking distance. We were very impressed; the service was truly excellent - welcoming, friendly and efficient. The food was also very good. We chose the, very reasonably priced, Early Bird Menu and, although we may not be particularly large eaters, we found the portions to be generous. We even dropped in again later in the evening to have coffee, which we'd not had time for earlier - we were welcomed like regulars. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

We were going to the theatre, so came to Vanilla for their Early-Bird menu, which sounded very good value. Maybe we expected too much because the prices on this menu are quite a bit cheaper than their a la carte and you need to bear this in mind when reading this review. My wife had the feta and tomato salad as a starter, pleasant enough but insubstantial, the quantity is roughly what you would put into a cheese sandwich to perk it up, one small tomato and a few leaves. I had the cream of cauliflower soup microwaved up to scalding temperature; maybe homemade, maybe not, it wasn't easy to tell. For the main course I had the vegetable tapas plate, a glorified starter really, and my wife the salmon fishcakes. There was nothing wrong with either but equally nothing to enthuse over. On food alone this visit would rate three stars. But the location is good, the building attractive, the inside a slightly curious mix of decor but very clean and tidy, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There were two large parties that arrived whilst we were eating, both carrying big cake tins with birthday cakes inside. Whilst in many restaurants this would be frowned upon or rejected when requested, here the staff were very helpful and positive about it, which indicates a very good relationship with their customers. All this bumped up the review to four stars.

Last night as a group of four we enjoyed a very pleasant meal and very good value at two courses for £10.95, you can upgrade to three courses for £13.95, but we were all extremely satisfied with out two course. Although not on the menu we were recommended to request their sausage and mash as the main course by two of our party who are both regular diners at this restaurant. Inside the restaurant is well laid out with plenty of room between the tables. The service we received was excellent and the house red Chilean wine very acceptable. We would recommend the lunch and early bird menu

Went came for dinner on a Wednesday night, very busy with christmas parties. Groups of between 5 -15 were there. Menu looked good, plenty of choice. Went to order a wine by the glass, but they had run out so we had to choose another.Skipped the starter, went for fillet of Beef and the Rissotto as mains. The rissotto was very creamy, and didn't see much artichoke though? The beef I am told was very good, a massive piece of meat. The desserts were ok. The sauce for the sticky toffee pudding seemed very rich, to the point it could have been slightly burnt? and the cheesecake came with the wrong ice cream. The prices were slightly more than I would expect, having eaten in places less expensive and had better meals.I cannot fault the restaurant staff as they seemed to have the large amount of tables and people under complete control, to the point you didn't realise there were that many people there.I would want to come back and revisit Vanilla, as the food seemed to suffer from the large volume of people.

This restaurant is not cheap with wines starting at £18 and mains above £16, but the décor and quality of the food are very good. We are not big eaters and found the portions served to be very generous, which may well suit a lot of people. With one starter and two mains (fillet of sea bass (a little overcooked on the outside) and duck breast (excellent)) plus one coffee and a bottle of wine the bill totalled about £62. Visited Vanilla with a group of friends visiting from London on a saturday lunchtime. Originally booked for 4 but on arrival asked for a table for 5, no problem at all. The interior is very impressive, feels very high-end but not at all pretentious. Felt like we were sat in a top restaurant in Kensignton. The staff were very friendly. We took advantage of the lunch time menu, two courses for 10.95 I think it was, considering the quality of the menu and the food, I think this is an amazing deal. I had a warm salad to start which was great followed by a really good Steak & Ale Pie. Have already started recommending this place my friends. Would say this is one of the best in town.

What a perfect evening. Very welcoming on arrival, service was friendly and prompt, but the food was amazing, really was very good, some of the best we have had. Yes this isn't the cheapest place, but there is a reason for that, you get what you pay for and £50-60 per head, 3course inc wine, coffees, tip etc, was not bad at all considering the high standards. We visited Vanilla for an anniversary meal and we were not disappointed. I hadn't heard of it before so it was my wife's choice. It's not cheap (£100 for a meal for 2 with wine), but the food was well cooked and nicely presented. We both had scallops for the starter and they were simply define. We also both had the steak for our main. I had the fat chips (delicious) with mine and my wife had potatoes. Desserts were nice also. The place is small (about 40 covers) but it had a nice ambiance and the staff were attentive but not overly so. We can't wait for another excuse to visit to try other items on the menu!

Vanilla was a welcome, cool place to lunch on a hot day. Tinkling water splashing from a small fountain in the little courtyard freshened the atmosphere. The Mediterranean/Greek menu offered plenty of choice. The risotto was most delicious. Pleasant staff. The restaurant is in a basement, off the Strand. Looking for somewhere to eat with a friend, post shopping trip, we found Vanilla which was very central and had good reviews. As we wanted an early dinner, we took advantage of the early bird menu at 2 courses for £10.75 (3 would have been £13.75) which is currently available Mon - Sat for lunch and between 6 - 7 pm. We both struggled to choose from the menu, as there were plenty of options. We both had the pitta with houmous, olives and dips which was delicious and a very generous portion. I then had the tomato risotto and my friend had steak and ale pie, both of which were very tasty. The staff were very attentive throughout our meal, without being pushy and the atmosphere was very relaxed. With a large glass of the smoothest Merlot I've ever had and a coffee each, the bill was very good value at £40. I'd definitely come back again either with a friend, with my partner or with a group.

This is my first review, but I was very let down by our evening at Vanilla. I'm not entirely sure what happened on our night out compared to other diners who have reviewed this place. Apparently one waitress had called in sick, but the restaurant was, at best, half full during the night. We were taken to our seats by a very disgruntled man who I assumed was the manager. The party were happy to see each other so we ignored it. The starters that were put on the table were an absolute joke - (my mum had 'mozzarella salad' - mozzarella balls thrown into a bowl of lettuce). The main course was a let down too, the disgruntled manager kept asking if we wanted to order more wine throughout the meal and seemed to get annoyed when we didn't. I couldn't possibly recommend this restaurant based on my experience.
