After a long journey I was really looking forward to popping in and buying some olives and cheeses and treating myself to lunch today - BIG mistake - terrible service - both waiters ignored me and then one reluctantly came. I asked for a coffee and a menu. Having told me the specials a coffee arrived and no attempt to return and ask what I would like for lunch. I left as soon as I could and without buying anything from the shop. When I arrived home - I live nearby- regaled what happened to my flat mate -she said oh my I have been in there a couple of times recently and they will serve others before me so I just ended up walking out! What a disappointment, it’s a place I recommend all the time to others and visitors - never again

We drank delicious coffee in the cafe, which had stunning views, and then had a look around the shop for a gift for a friends’ birthday. The staff were extremely helpful and in no time we had selected the perfect gift, a bottle of ‘own brand’ Prosecco and a wine cooler, in a beautiful box with the Valvona and Corolla name in gold lettering, stuffed with ‘straw’. They arrange delivery to our friend within a few days and all for under £30!!

Friends had recommended the V&C; Ristorante and Deli but as this was closed for refurbishment, we called in here at the V&C; cafe in Jenner’s during a short break stay in Edinburgh, for a bite to eat and coffee. The baguettes were tasty but did seem to take a while to toast. The coffees were very flavoursome, however they were very strong as served in small cups and we had to ask for hot water with them. Other customers seemed to have coffee in mugs but perhaps you had to ask for them specially. We weren’t keen on the self service either. The prices should warrant table service in an establishment such as this. The views from the cafe out over Princes Street were good.

I sat here to eat as I felt that I owned Bertie, the character from the Alexander McCall Smith novels. He and his mother visit this place and I followed in his footsteps with a coffee and some mini biscuits from an old fashioned glass jar on the counter. It had that old fashioned feel to it - and the view whilst sitting on the stools were of the magnificent castle. I imagined Bertie being dragged around there by his insufferable mother and laughed into my cappuccino. The aromas of the other food on offer and the fact that the cafe is located in the foodhall - and I also left with something else - a haggis. Not sure if Bertie would like that but I loved it!

The Valvona and Crolla presence in Jenners department Store on Princes Street in Edinburgh is quite extensive. I always opt for the small Caffe at the back of the store on the corner of South St David Street and Rose Street. It is certainly a place to escape busy Princes Street before tackling the delights of Rose Street. There are only about 20 seats with one server behind a small counter. I invariably have an excellent cappuccino with a delicious muesli bar. There is also a good choice of scones, cakes and pastries. Wifi is available so all is well with the world.

When we left Scotland there was only one Volvona & Crolla store - on Elm Row! We went in for the wonderfulsmells of the exotic foods they sold. We watched customers request their specific mix for their Sherry and I even saw payments in Lira. The cafes around Edinburgh are not what the Elm Store offered but they offer a very acceptable place to take a break and have a coffee. We were given half a cup of luke warm, watery soup each - no roll, no napkin – nothing else. Apart from being cold, it tasted insipid and cost an outrageous £4 a HEAD. Popped into Valvona & Crolla Caffe based in Frasers at the west end of Princes Street, ordered Cappuccino and a slice of pizza, pizza had been in a small oven to keep warm, cheese very rubbery and tasteless, very limited choice for vegetarians, my friend had the turnip soup and thought it was tasteless. very poor. Would not go back

I called into Jenners, as I frequently do whenever visiting Edinburgh. It really is a beautiful building and decided to take a break in the excellent little cafe on the top floor. The coffee and the tiny Lemon tart hit the spot. My chums also enjoyed the scones and the view towards the old town.

The coffee was allright but the croissant was cold, the scone was edible but not very good (three out of ten), the butter was too hard, and everything was overpriced when you consider all that. I would not recommend going there.

Our annual visit as we like to enjoy a birds eye view of the city.We ordered two coffees and a pastry. Disappointingly, the coffees were cold & the cups were small.Staff were slow to clear the tables. Not sure if we will visit again.

Pleasant friendly area in a House of Frasers store. Lovely hot chocolate and a delicious ungreasy ring doughnut!

Came for a coffee and a cake. This place was disgusting as the place was completely littered with used cups and plates. No-one was making any attempt to clear up. For such a posh shop this was poor.

Bitter coffee, strawberry tart with suspect cream. Coffee left on the bar for me to guess if it was mine or someone else's! Disappointed again!

Nothing particularly overwhelming here. Coffee OK. Basic service and surroundings accompanied by high prices.

I had a coffee and scone. The selection was a little poor and the scone was rather dry. The view is lovely though and will try the restaurant next time which has more variety.

A compact cafe on the ground floor of Jenners, designed for a quick pick-me-up rather than lingering of a leisurely coffee. Good coffee and a tempting selection of V&C; cakes - with an Italian theme, naturally. The orange polenta cake was a new one on me, having previously only made lemon polenta cake. Try it out.

I expected more of Jenners to be honest. It didnt come up to the level even of a John Lewis cafe and yet it should have. I expected more of a tea room - after all that would have gone better with the ambience of the building. So they are selling themselves and the customers short in this regard. There was a poor range of choice; that which there was was over priced, and the staff were 'doing a job' rather than providing a service.

Stopped here for a quick coffee and cake on Saturday. As ever the coffee was great and the views fantastic. Service was prompt.

Just perfect coffee, but such a selection of cakes for the coeliac and regular eater alike. Nice view from the window. A good place to meet and greet when in town.

I enjoyed stopping in the food shop and getting a latte or cup of tea - you can sit at the window and have a great view of Scott Monument, the castle, Prince's street, buses/trams/cars, everyone coming and going. Nice spot for a morning or afternoon break. Good scones, egg tarts. Jenner's is a marvel too - such an historic structure, still in business. They have an all-Scotland gift section too, if you are looking for something a step up from the souvenir shops. It's on the same floor as the coffee shop (I think).

I booked the Beehive for an annual get together with my cousins. There were 14 of us in our party and we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening (6pm to around midnight). The food was great and so was the service. We were given a semi-private area at the back of the upstairs, which worked perfectly for us. I am sorry that I didn't catch his name (might have been Neil?), but he worked upstairs and behind the bar and he went out of his way to make sure our party was well attended to. He definitely made our night. We will certainly be back!

I almost never leave reviews, but I felt I had to because I felt so ripped off here. I'm a local and had time to kill before work so I popped in for lunch. The staff were friendly and the service was quick, but I got the smallest piece of avocado toast I've ever seen for a tenner. I'm still hungry. I sort of knew it would be a mistake to go somewhere touristy but now I know I definitely won't be back. There are nicer places on Cockburn Street, never mind the rest of the Old Town.
