Valerio's Fish and Chips in South Lanarkshire

Nice fish and chips rather greasey tonight .went in tonight and the food looked well cooked .

My wife and I have been in a good few times lately and must say the meals we’ve had have been very good value for the money best chip shop in the Lanarkshire area by far

Great chippy in the heart of Lanark. A wide selection of decent priced meals to eat in or carry out. Ample parking in the adjacent car park. Excellent staff. Online prebooking is no longer needed after Covid. Turn up and order. Piping hot, freshly cooked and very tasty. Wouldn't go anywhere else in the area. Thoroughly recommended.

Ready nice fish tea and service

I will keep this short Lol As we walked in , What looked back at us through the draining window was what i can only describe as Articles raked out from the bottom of a Bonfire , Absolutely charred , was like a game of guess the contents , Staff were young , Not there fault , Chief fryer to blame here , ( i Felt commited at this point ) Staff not been showed what constitutes Chip amounts in a Supper , Chose the Rib , A cold thin Burnt greasy cobble stone is how i would describe it , Seasoned with 5 grains of salt and 3 drops of vinegar . When Paying top dollar for Chip shop food the customer should recieve something that resembles edible food , Charged extra for stabby wooden thing , Fryer please get your frying times rite or sack yourself , Again not youg staffs fault here , Chewing on 10 pound coins would have caused less damage , Which is what this effort cost me , Elsewhere in future is what ive Learned 🧐

July 28, 2024 We waited for three takeaway dishes for 35 minutes from 3:50 p.m. to 4:25 p.m. We were ignored or forgotten... I don't understand. I asked staff three times and didn't get a clear answer. Still, the food was good.

Just got a box of chips and they where absolutely stinking, never had a chip so dry ( in the bin )Not a decent chippy in Lanark ( shame )🙈

Best chippy for miles, service great, delivery and front counter separated which makes things faster now 🙂😇 friendly staff and owner doing a great job 😊 Highly recommend 👌

Had been looking forward to sitting in for a fish tea but the restaurant closes at 8pm. Despite them still serving people in the restaurant Took it as a takeaway and sat at the bus stop. Food was ok nothing amazing.

Chips were hard and dry hamburger must have been in the gantry for a long while as it was inedible and staff lack people and manners

Our favourite chippy in Lanark for take out & sit in. Decent food, service is good if you sit in. Reasonably priced.

Apparently staff had put normal fish tea in fryer . We could wait a few minutes for jumbo . Or they would reduce the bill to normal fish tea . We decided to wait on Jumbo . When it arrived it appeared normal size , had broken in half, was dry and overcooked . The waiter assured us it was a jumbo . Couldn't eat it and requested money back . The staff were apologetic and refunded money. Very disappointed 😞

Very hit and miss with the chips too many crunchy bits and very expensive for what you get. Ebis or Chillis much nicer and alot cheaper.

I usually get my fish and chips out valeros but this time the batter was very greasy so I couldn't eat it so one birthday spoiled.

Second time I’ve been and they put the chips on top of the fish, by the time we were home the batter on the fish was like mush. Also the mushy peas were a bit bland

I never usually write reviews but “Valerios” has blown me away. I travelled down from Edinburgh after my friends at work would not stop recommending it and it did not disappoint! We came in and despite the shop being really busy and there only being two staff members working in the restaurant (“Stacey” & “Ian”) we were served instantly and was made to feel super welcome, both of their service was excellent and we were well looked after and their combined teamwork to make sure everything was done fast and efficiently was a rare sight to see at most other chippys. We had ordered two fish teas and it was the most delicious fish I have ever had from a fish and chip shop and I cannot recommend this dish enough for the amount you receive with such a low price and my compliments go out to whoever made this delicious dish and they even have a loyalty card scheme where you get your tenth for free which is excellent! it’s a very nice and clean cafe with excellent music and a great atmosphere. If you are ever passing by Lanark please check out “Valerios” I will definitely be back.

Well decorated fish & chip restaurant excellent service likewise the food

The jumbo fish tea was amazing. No bones at all, crispy batter even after putting vinegar on it. The chips were crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. And I had bread with real butter. It came with mushy peas and tartare sauce. I had coffee with mine, and it wasn't the wee cups where you barely get a skiddle of coffee, it was a decent mug. Was it worth it.....very much so.

Love there food but on occasion had missing items was told I'd get it or a refund went there and they refused to do it accusing us of having the items but saying we didnt. I suspect some of the staff are liars trying not to get into trouble

Used to be a fantastic establishment but it has severely went down hill. . They have kept forgetting items . Aswell as food being cold. I'm ashamed that my favourite fish and chip shop has sunk so low

Quite nice fish and chips take out, fish good quality, batter fine. Mushy peas could have been a lot tastier. Not bad for price but room for improvement. Visiting within the area so doubt we would return.

If you don't mind waiting and being ignored by some of the staff then you should be okay

An alright wee chippy that is overshadowed by not only poor prices but terrible service, I don’t blame the younger folk working for bad service but poor managers. It’s a nice wee place but a shame the managerial staff let it down, id recommend if your wanting a chippy take your money to ebbis down the high street for better food at better prices

First time trying here tonight and it was very nice. Batter was class, different from anything I've had before . Not white ish colour and dripping in oil. It was rich and crispy and full of flavour. Will definitely be back

Takeaway was dreadful. Arrived 40mins late, after phone call chasing. Advised left 5 mins ago, to do 4 min journey. Total wait was 1hr 45min. Cold when arrived, order incomplete and batter dark brown, (either burnt or oil needs changed). Jumbo Haddock smaller than standard portion, scampi squashed into tray and all pieces broken. Kids too hungry to wait any longer, so resorted to microwave to reheat. Waste of £32.

This is the best Chippy in UK. I've travelled from the South of UK to the North and not even the Chippys in Brighton touch this place. There is a meal you can get for two that's only spoilt by their BATTERED MARS BAR🧟 But their fish is so fresh with a perfectly crispy batter. Chips are so well sized and the curry sauce 😋 Look man its on Google maps put some sort of an alert if you're randomly passing or something cos you don't want to miss this place.

The only negative for me is waiting while people stand smoking and vaping right outside the door. From the cashier to the short order cook they are a happy friendly bunch and my chippies are always good!!!!

My fish was half the size of my friends. With hindsight I should have complained

Visited Valerie's today for ice cream for my kids all the prices on the board taped over. When I asked for 2 tubs I was rudely asked by Wendy well what kind do you want ! ? . What kind do you have Wendy the choices are all covered up 🤷‍♂️, perhaps Wendy was having a bad day, as she continues the blowing her chopps and shaking her head when i asked her the price as she half filled the tubs then stuck her hand out and grunted £5.40 no please, no thank you just rude so i don't know what offended her but I do know I won't be using Valerios again 😉

Fish cake supper x 2 and it took 30 minutes. They didn't put the fishcakes in to cook until they had served everyone else. No apology, no nothing. Won't be going back!

My wife and I were here for a fish tea waiting servers, polite and chatty ,my wife's dinner was perfect, but unfortunately, my fish was overcooked ( in my opinion) too dry still edable and I did not complain.

Oh dear what a disappointment. The young person serving in the takeaway clearly didn't want to be there and looked very unhappy. When we got back to our accommodation and opened our food the fish was good but can't say the same for the chicken which was very dry and the chips were inedible. As we were visiting for the weekend and looked forward to Scottish fish and we were very disappointed that we had spent so much on such poor quality food.

We always go get our fish and chips here. It’s really delicious.

Sorry, but I am unsure where these 5 star reviews come from. My husband and I visited Valerios today at 4 .30pm and purchased a take away which I have to say was freshly made at the time. It was a lovely day and we have a wee dog so we went straight to Lanark Loch and had our takeaway before walking the dog. I have to say that I have never had anything so disgusting since the last twice when we visited this place for something to eat. We should have known better than to visit again but have to say that this is truly the last time we will return and I will advise friends to avoid it too. From what used to be a place to go to for fish and chips years ago it is now just a disgrace. We actually binned our take out and I am sure I can still taste the grease from my first few bites. We both had fish. Mine was in batter and my husband had breaded fish and a portion of chips. I had 3 fritters, they were actually sliding out of the bag as they were so greasy. No amount of Gaviscon tablets could deal with this poor excuse for a fish supper. Total bad show Valerie's. Total waste of £20. Would rather have put the money in a charity box. If I could have rated the food less than one star I would have done so. Poor quality fish, uncooked batter and grease ridden throughout.

Ordered 2 jumbo fish tea's Menu said haddock and it deffo was not haddock it was cod

Visited on a lovely warm Scottish day....some may even say summer. Ordering for a group of 6 people individually was problematic to say the least. I had Single Sausage Supper Gravy and a draft Coke....I had to ask for the gravy as they forgot it, when it came was a tiny jug of watery gravy with lumpy bits which I assume was rushed as they forgot and wasnt stirred. When paying I was charged extra for a sausage roll I didn't order or consume, this was flagged up immediately by the server who refunded within 3 days. The person I was out with ordered a double sausage supper cheese and a coke. The cheese was forgotten and when it was highlighted a small bowl of grated cheese arrived (however the chips were luke warm and not cooked thoroughly hard and cold bits in the middle) it didn't melt and just sat ontop which didn't look or taste appealing by all accounts. When we got home after thinking it was quite expensive for the experience we noticed there had been an extra portion of chips added to the bill which we had paid for. All in all won't be going back again, not sure if it was the day or not but but too many little things on the resulted in a not so good experience.

Been a few times here on a day out in Lanark. Every time it's, we have no Cod.. . Nearly 45 minutes waiting for a half slapped haddock. .no Tartar sauce appeared when asked for it and had better fish out Farmfoods.

went a wee drive to Lanark yesterday evening and stopped at valerios ordered 2 fish teas . tea and bread was brought out very prompt as for the 2 fish suppers that were brought out without the mushy peas were not that great i think the cod had eaten the haddock in my portion . i also had to get more tea as the pot that was brought out before was cold and the bread was starting to get hard at the edges . definitely won't be back.

Excellent service as 19 of us turned up for lunch which had not been confirmed. They accommodated us no problem and food was amazing. Thank you for making our outing so enjoyable and tasty.

Been here a few times in the past and never disappointed, however the staff were awfully rude to me (scoffing and turning to each other) because I just wanted a coffee and cake as my bus was coming soon. I suspect ableism because. I was wearing my invisible disability lanyard, and I’ve never experienced such rudeness in valerio’s when not wearing it. Scotland needs to treat disabled people better.

Nice fish and chip shop. Table service in the restaurant part. Food piping hot, and very tasty. My only issue, I managed to get a large number of chips that had bad black bits in them, bits of eyes.

I got lunch here with my girlfriend and her parents. I had the haddock supper and we drove to the nearby loch to eat it. It's genuine, white, flaky, haddock. Not pollock. No excess oil, a good crispy texture to the batter. The only issue was that when we first went in we were told the fryer was in a meeting and we ended up leaving and coming back 10 minutes later. When we asked for vinegar on a haggis they ended up putting it on one of the fish instead due to an accent issue (luckily we wanted that anyway). The atmosphere was nice enough, it was a typical chippy with an attached eat-in restaurant.

Visited for the first time in a long time following a change of owner. Can only commend, the supper was cooked fresh and had lovely crispy batter and the chips were thick succulent and very tasty, not at all greasy. I hope they keep this standard...I will be back. Revisited yesterday and if anything its better! The light bite fish and chips is fab and more than enough and at £6.90 including a soft drink a real bargain.

What has happened ? we used to eat in the restaurant at least once a week for years, food was always good service was exceptional even when busy so much so I always left a tip,due to circumstances we have not been for at least 3 months, today 11.10.23 we went in for dinner at 4.30pm, it wasn't busy tables were needing cleaned & we sat for 15 minutes waiting to have our orders taken, all the time the staff were at the counter talking with each other, we walked out in passing the counter I informed the lad the service was terrible, unfortunately we were hungry so you still got our business this time as a takeaway, but for future remember there are 2 chip shops in Lanark,not impressed if this is the level of customer service the restaurant now gives.

Took a while to be served, but from then on, service was excellent. They could not have been more attentive. Food was excellent, the best fish and chips I've had for years.

2 x fish suppers, and they were absolutely disgusting. Not sure if the oil was old or if it's all cooked in the same fryer, but it was not great. Both fish suppers found the bin with no more than a couple of bites. The chips were greasy and followed the fish. Fair to say will be giving that a body swerve if i am back in that area.

The staff are lovely very very helpful nothing a bother to them ..the fish and all there food is excellent .. I live in Glasgow my daughter lives in motherwell but we travel there to valeros because its the best 👌 👍

No toilet roll or hand towels requested and didn't refill. Asked for another juice and was forgotten about. Food was great tho!

Disappointing overall. The fish was over cooked and the mushy peas were tasteless. The only redeeming feature were the chips. We ordered vanilla ice-cream - one scoop x 2 portions. Shocked at the portions as it was barely a tablespoonful for £2.50 each. Young staff who were pleasant enough but not supervised. For the record, we are from this area originally but now live in England and USA.

A lot of the complaints about this restaurant online aren’t fair. This is an unassuming fish and chips shop that does its job pretty well - no frills, but I don’t think anyone ever goes to fish and chips for the frills. We had a big group come in and the serving staff were friendly and took care of us. Can’t go wrong with the variety of fish and other bites on the menu

Had went to Valerio’s for mine and my friends lunch, ordered a wrap for my friend and asked for tomato sauce on it for her and was ridiculed for it after telling the women that it wasn’t even mine. They clearly thought they were hilarious going back and forth with one another like the chuckle brothers. When making the wrap I was throwned at. I got a supper for myself and asked for salt and loads of vinegar. When I was leaving about half a litre of scalding hot vinegar or oil spilled down me from the carton and onto the floor. I know I asked for lots of vinegar but come on yous didn’t have to fill it to the brim youse are having a laugh. Place was full of school boys staring at me after I’ve spilled an entire chip carton of vinegar down myself and the floor there was an actual puddle of vinegar on the floor. Mortified. Wont be back.

Possibly the worst haggis supper I've ever had, no idea what oil they are using but it's vile, chips were half cooked at best, haggis was cut in half which didn't help matters, ebis have just gained a customer.

This place is special. Well worth the money. Don't mess about with any other chippy on Lanark.

Lovely food, was a bit disappointed as I didn't get a salad with my order as per description in the menu but the jumbo fish supper was very nice.
