Vacara & Co in Newport

I used to go to this place years ago. I was in town and thought to pop in and WOW god forbid you want to go here as a young person!!! I have never experienced such awful customer service. Was stared down as soon as I entered, with not a word said. Went and sat in the back. Okay portion but an extortionate price and the quality has gone right down. Staff moaned the entire time aloud and only spoke nicely to other elderly people. It's like they have a disdain for the people who are not going to be keeling over anytime soon. I was polite despite this and as I paid I said thank you and tried to make small talk to the older gent who then interrupted me to say the payment has gone through, not even a thank you or goodbye. Worst customer service I've ever experienced (and I travel the world for work). Can't wait for the place to find new management. Talk about disappoining.

Had a few times lately!!! Perhaps a little pricey - a medium chips is £5, but, I will say, smashing chips! Really nice. Really hot! Fresh! This place is my weakness.

Used to go here a lot . Haven’t been in around a year . Sat down with my 2 kids (7) and (4) Got charged £25.00 for 3 sausage and chips and 3 drinks . The chips was ok to be totally honest But the sausages was disgusting it was around 12PM So clearly the left over of the night before The waitress and owner seen the sausages or chips wasn’t touched due to the quality Not once did anyone ask if there was anything wrong . This place has plummeted real shame .

We always had a beautiful meal here. They never skimp on the food. The staff we have always had a laugh with. When we have meal. Its always neat and tidy aswell. Be sorry to see the owner retire want be the same.

Truly awful chips. Pale, greasy, limp soggy and tasted awful. The worst I've ever had. Gave them all to the pigeons. Absolute yuk!

Super friendly and amazing environment created by the staff. Top that with a great quality fish and chips. Worth every penny

Not what it used to be. Expensive, staff openly moaning about everything, freezing cold in the restaurant. No kids portion options available, 80p a nugget, everything else fairly expensive! Come on, it's chips, not the Ritz.

I’ve just been charged £4 for a medium bag of chips that were luke warm and didn’t taste very nice at all. God knows how long they’d been sat there. If you’re charging £4 for 2-3 potatoes at least make them hot and tasty. So disappointing.

I’ve tried fish and chips in several places even port places that should have had good fish and chips but none come even close to Vacara. I asked the owner what his secret was and he said “clean oil and fresh fish” and this makes so much sense as to why it’s so amazing. Love it and excited to eat here soon

Lovely food, only issue would be the price. However, for a central location the prices and portions sizes are excellent.

Very friendly staff fresh and delicious food definitely will go there again you can eat in or take it away

Best fish & chip parlor in Newport 😋

I’ve been going to vacaras for many years of my life now with family, by myself or with friends. Generally whenever I go into town I like to grab a cone of chips for myself and 9/10 times it’s always lovely Prices have gone up everywhere so I would like if it was a little cheaper but it’s still a great chip shop and easily one of the top 10 in Newport without a doubt

Not worth the money very expensive £20.00 for fish chips peas bread butter and tea

Good food, good service, all good, could do with a little music for background sound

Well this used to be one of the best chip shops in Newport but not any more. Steak and kidney pie was just warm and pale tasteless chips. Will not be back

Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time - real chips, perfectly cooked fish, great service - will definitely call in again. Thank you good people!
