Uttapam in Middlesbrough

Our new favourite place to order a curry. Lovely service when collected and was ready in 15 minutes. We ordered 1 curry and 1 rice to share and a naan bread each and it was perfect portion lots of chicken in the curry.

We unexpectedly found this Authentic south Indian restaurant during our visit to Middlesbrough. Portions are huge and most dishes are under 10£. And all dishes were so tasty. And the owner aunty is super friendly. Such a great find. Will definitely visit again.

Amazing food; great indian taste, good portion size and fantastic dosa. Every meal is unique. We enjoyed the food and service.

This is my fourth time dining here. I’ve used the takeout and eat in facilities and both are excellent. Usually I find restaurant quality can disappoint with takeout but here is always the same high standard. I’d recommend everything, though I especially like the lightness of the Chapati - try them amazing!

I was very disappointed with the quantity of sambhar. It was far too little for the portion size. For the price and expectations, I believe the sambhar quantity should have been more generous.

Had passed this little place several times and thought we should pop in and very glad we did . Very large choice with many vegetarian options. Starter sizes were large and delicious! Standard Dosa huge with lovely chutneys. Chana masala cooked just right, and nice and spicy. Unfortunately we didn't have space for a dessert but will try and pace ourselves and go with reinforcements next time.

Quality and quantity too poor. Can’t even feel coconut chutney if I dip dosa in it.

Didn’t send any gravy with the Dosa. How can you expect someone to eat Dosa without any gravy? Also the portion sizes have reduced tremendously.

Today's Baigon Pakoda wasn’t as good as the one I ordered on Dec21, which was tasty with a good portion, curry leaves, and mayonnaise. Today’s serving had less quantity and didn’t taste as great.Fish Chilly Fry had an unusual smell.Masala Tea good

a great find. totally different to the usual generic curry houses. our second time ordering and both times the flavour and quality have been fantastic

Below average food. Tastes like supermarket food. Lots of added food colour and everything was too spicy. Naan and butter chicken were a real let down. Not authentic at all.

Pav Bhaji was too salted and was not as per expectations.

Fantastic venue. The staff are always welcoming and make me feel relaxed. It's a small venue with a easy to reach central location. The food is always well cooked and exceptionally tasty. I have had many dishes including a variety of dosa and utterpam. I have also had an Indian omelette and thali. I have enjoyed all of these dishes which are well prepared. The staff are always on hand to explain details of any items or ingredients I am not aware of. It is a true gem of a restaurant and one I hope to visit many times in the future.

If you fancy some true South Indian cuisine then look no further. Beats any Indian restaurant in the Boro for quality, price, taste.... The start and owners are more than willing to help you choose and still amend dishes to suit your preference. The uttaoam and dosas are amazing. Would recommend to anyone, a real hidden gem.

I have tried loads of indian restaurants in Middlesbrough. All of them are not too good but Uttapam is sooo good. I get the masala dosa ordered a few times a month because its sooo authentic. The karak chai is so good. Some food is a hit or a miss but thats with any restaurant. The gobi manchurian is the best I’ve tasted in my life so that says alot when I have been eating it back home. Whoever the chefs are, they are the best indian food makers in middlesbrough. I have not sat down yet in the restaurant but it reminds me of a restaurant called sarvana bhavan which is my favorite.

Uttapam is our new little favourite place for a gorgeous little curry experience! With really good traditional Indian food and lovely customer service! Me and my girls love a little night here for a catch up and some great food! 5 stars and will be coming back again and again!

Kindly I request not to buy alcohol while having food as they charge 4 times the price of actual price.. Food also is just made for the sake of making.. Waste of time

Every dish we had tasted the same , overly spiced and salted , unfortunately all of it was thrown away .

Average Indian food, thought I will have some good south Indian dishes, ordered thalis which was below average, rotis good, most dishes tasted below average, sooji sweet was definitely dated and hard, onion bajis was good, toilet wash basin was blocked, informed the waiter about it, it's not worth a try

Authentic South Indian flavours Would surely recommend

Fantastic food, but the service was horrendous. Reflected quite well in other reviews, I should have read them before arriving. The manager / waiter gentleman has an attitude befitting a Greek God. He genuinely goes out of his way to sneak in a snide remark about anything, and noticeably does so only against individuals of specific races. He refuses to serve tap water to us, suggested we go read the news as to why he won’t and gave us 1 glass to share amongst 3. He is also overheard on the phone many times asking people to “shut up” or actively states “don’t come to our restaurant” or otherwise insults them and hangs up. I wish he had spoken to me when I had phoned ahead so that I could have not come as well. Not to mention, he took a personal phone call for well over 30 minutes as we wished to leave, and shushed me when I asked for the bill as he continued to gossip. And the last and most amusing aspect I look forward to are his responses of discontent as I have seen with all other reviews so far, I look forward to hearing about my hidden agendas and lack of knowledge of Indian cuisine. Needless to say, we will not be returning here again.

Food is pretty good and most of the prices are pretty standard but you get the odd item which is too much for what you pay for, like the mango lassi is a bit expensive for a such a small glass but overall it’s a nice place to order and get some good hearty food, the Biryani has good portions and the mutton and lamb Biryani’s are really flavourful and tender. The only criticism I can give is the inside atmosphere in the restaurant is really dull and boring there are some nice pictures hung up on the wall but that’s it. The seating is also just below par and nothing really shouts authentic South Indian restaurant. And I can say many others would agree with what I said as we were only sat down and at least 20 orders were placed within the half an hour of us being there, moreover there was only one other small family. All in all it’s a good place to dine and dash.

Not authentic south Indian ..dosa soaked in oil . Watery Sambar . Giving rating 2 because of the good quantity of biryani. Biryani is not authentic..it's gravy basmati rice. Kindly take this as a scope to improve

I use to come visit this place when I crave for dosa, in the beginning I used to love this place and the service as well. But today ask for tap water and the guy who was sat like boss on the corner table said no tap water for customers. This against the law refusing tap water in a restaurant it’s not acceptable. Totally understand your business trick but this not going to work for the business. Pathetic service food is ok ok..

It was our first time here and totally disappointed with the food, Food was absolutely crap and test less doesn’t even look like fresh cooked i can clearly tell that was microwaved. There was no High chair available for our little one and food is also overpriced no parking space available and no wheelchair or pram access Not recommended at all please avoid.

Nice food . We had non vegetarian thali. But in non vegetarian thali only gave chicken. Could add a mutton curry also. Overall food was good.

Authentic Indian food and best service

I went for lunch yesterday by myself without any hopes of having a proper south indian meal having tried various takeaways here. But to my surprise i had a very well cooked delicious kerela chicken briyani. Moreover i had a very good chat with the owner who made me feel at home. I really enjoyed talking to her. I never left a grain in my plate. They prioritise cleanliness and authenticity which i really admired. If your looking for proper home cooked food with less spice then this is your right place. I want to share my heartfelt thanks to mam and sir for the amazing service. Will be visiting often.

Awesome food! Authentic - just like my Mum’s cooking! They are very accommodating on the food/drinks on how I would like them & they all tastes true to the tee. We had the mixed uttapam, Lamb briyani , poori, chicken 65, tandoori chicken with tamarind rice, salted lassi, mango lassi & masala tea. We will definitely return to try the other dishes on the menu - can’t wait!

It’s like no consistency of the taste of food . We used to order chicken 65 rice it’s different taste now .. and if you go to restaurant and make same order it’s not the same taste as we do order online

Without doubt the best south indian cuisine I have ever eaten. The flavours are other wordly. so rich and complex. And all ran by the nicest people ever. Highly recommended!

Not as spicy as I would like, but it is a different take on some of the dishes. The medu vada were really plain, though, I thought they would be more rich with veg or spices. Avoid.

Best place to explore proper South Indian food with beautiful atmosphere and so supportive staff . Their Masala Chai is just amazing so much relaxing and refreshing. Highly recommended place for proper South Indian cuisine.

Originally scheduled for delivery 15:45-16:05 it arrived at 17:07. Food was cold when it arrived.

This was a lovely meal, staff were helpful (I think she was the owner) talked us through the menu and how spicy things were and let us try the dosa, couldn’t fault it, my only moan is it was cold we were sat near the door, but everything else was flawless. Thank you for a lovely night

Really really good food and very good value! Worth a visit if you're in Middlesbrough. Half of our group were veggie and they catered brilliantly for all tastes. It really is a good spot!

I don’t want to give even single star very rude attitude the person who stands as cashier as if like don he treats customers like beggars this not happens with I saw when he was rude to one boy who was just asking about a meal to eat he just said if you want to eat or go out this is not the way to behave, I have ordered one sweet and starter I don’t get for 20min still I was waiting as my 6months old baby started crying I asked the staff to get soon by seeing this that cashier called the staff and said give there money back and send them.we asked to get soon if possible by the reply I got we just left from the place there are so many Indian restaurants people who give lot of respect and very polite to every customer go to such restaurants worth.i have visited thereafter but I suppose to give this feedback long back so you don’t remember me anyway.

What a superb meal. The Masala Dosa was sublime and the vegan Thali looked as good as it tasted. Others ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala which was excellent and very succulent. Altogether, full marks and will certainly recommend.

I mistakenly ordered thinking it was delivery. The staff organised to drop it off for me as a one off which was so so kind. I can honestly say this is the best indian food I have eaten in forever. Easily top of the middlesbrough restaurants and we do have GOOD indian here. Got the Aloo Gosht and some other pieces....Just blown away. Bravo to this restaurant

Yesterday, we ventured into the restaurant and ordered a variety of dishes, including Lamb Biryani, Uttapam, Curd Rice, and Curd Vada. Unfortunately, the proprietor's attitude was shockingly unfriendly, leaving us with a sense of dissatisfaction. One has to continually request assistance, as post-order placement, there's an utter lack of attention to our needs—even with only one other table occupied. Notably, basic necessities like water and drinks required persistent requests. In summary, an overwhelmingly negative encounter tainted by both poor service and subpar food quality.

We ordered a variety of dishes for Christmas Day dinner to give us a break from cooking this year. Absolutely delicious in every way. The tandoori chicken was incredible! All dishes delicately flavoured- also highly recommend the dosas, coconut rice and paneer curry! Did not regret decision to order from Uttapam. Have also eaten in their Restaurant and never fails to impress.

£6 for tiny wrap that was nothing special, extortionate price. Won’t be going back.

Absolutely love the food here. So authentic. The curries were spot on.

I found curry potions much reduced on my visit today and the amount of meat in the curries on the Thali could have been more.The flavours however of these were on point. We ordered the Chicken Achari. This was found lacking in flavour and authenticity and not one I will be ordering again. The spicy fish curry was superb as was the dosai and the tikka fried eggplant. Few tweaks here and there and this little restaurant could be a gem in the making.

Unassuming, casual eatery but the food speaks for itself. Incredibly fresh and very flavoursome. Get the thali so you can try as much as possible and don’t miss out on the dosas. I look forward to visiting again.

Best Fish curry you could get probably outside of India. Also ask for their signature fish fry kerala style.
