Fantastic, authentic South indian food. The thali was superb. Freshly made, perfectly cooked, delicious food. Great, friendly service too!

It was our first time here and totally disappointed with the food, Food was absolutely crap and test less doesn’t even look like fresh cooked i can clearly tell that was microwaved. There was no High chair available for our little one and food is also overpriced no parking space available and no wheelchair or pram access Not recommended at all please avoid.

Nice food . We had non vegetarian thali. But in non vegetarian thali only gave chicken. Could add a mutton curry also. Overall food was good.

Authentic Indian food and best service

I went for lunch yesterday by myself without any hopes of having a proper south indian meal having tried various takeaways here. But to my surprise i had a very well cooked delicious kerela chicken briyani. Moreover i had a very good chat with the owner who made me feel at home. I really enjoyed talking to her. I never left a grain in my plate. They prioritise cleanliness and authenticity which i really admired. If your looking for proper home cooked food with less spice then this is your right place. I want to share my heartfelt thanks to mam and sir for the amazing service. Will be visiting often.

Awesome food! Authentic - just like my Mum’s cooking! They are very accommodating on the food/drinks on how I would like them & they all tastes true to the tee. We had the mixed uttapam, Lamb briyani , poori, chicken 65, tandoori chicken with tamarind rice, salted lassi, mango lassi & masala tea. We will definitely return to try the other dishes on the menu - can’t wait!

Without doubt the best south indian cuisine I have ever eaten. The flavours are other wordly. so rich and complex. And all ran by the nicest people ever. Highly recommended!

Best place to explore proper South Indian food with beautiful atmosphere and so supportive staff . Their Masala Chai is just amazing so much relaxing and refreshing. Highly recommended place for proper South Indian cuisine.

Enjoyed a great meal in the restaurant last week with a party of 15 from work. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was delicious. I would certainly recommend that you try the restaurant.

This was a lovely meal, staff were helpful (I think she was the owner) talked us through the menu and how spicy things were and let us try the dosa, couldn’t fault it, my only moan is it was cold we were sat near the door, but everything else was flawless. Thank you for a lovely night

I don’t want to give even single star very rude attitude the person who stands as cashier as if like don he treats customers like beggars this not happens with I saw when he was rude to one boy who was just asking about a meal to eat he just said if you want to eat or go out this is not the way to behave, I have ordered one sweet and starter I don’t get for 20min still I was waiting as my 6months old baby started crying I asked the staff to get soon by seeing this that cashier called the staff and said give there money back and send them.we asked to get soon if possible by the reply I got we just left from the place there are so many Indian restaurants people who give lot of respect and very polite to every customer go to such restaurants worth.i have visited thereafter but I suppose to give this feedback long back so you don’t remember me anyway.

What a superb meal. The Masala Dosa was sublime and the vegan Thali looked as good as it tasted. Others ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala which was excellent and very succulent. Altogether, full marks and will certainly recommend.

I mistakenly ordered thinking it was delivery. The staff organised to drop it off for me as a one off which was so so kind. I can honestly say this is the best indian food I have eaten in forever. Easily top of the middlesbrough restaurants and we do have GOOD indian here. Got the Aloo Gosht and some other pieces....Just blown away. Bravo to this restaurant

Yesterday, we ventured into the restaurant and ordered a variety of dishes, including Lamb Biryani, Uttapam, Curd Rice, and Curd Vada. Unfortunately, the proprietor's attitude was shockingly unfriendly, leaving us with a sense of dissatisfaction. One has to continually request assistance, as post-order placement, there's an utter lack of attention to our needs—even with only one other table occupied. Notably, basic necessities like water and drinks required persistent requests. In summary, an overwhelmingly negative encounter tainted by both poor service and subpar food quality.

We ordered a variety of dishes for Christmas Day dinner to give us a break from cooking this year. Absolutely delicious in every way. The tandoori chicken was incredible! All dishes delicately flavoured- also highly recommend the dosas, coconut rice and paneer curry! Did not regret decision to order from Uttapam. Have also eaten in their Restaurant and never fails to impress.

£6 for tiny wrap that was nothing special, extortionate price. Won’t be going back.

I found curry potions much reduced on my visit today and the amount of meat in the curries on the Thali could have been more.The flavours however of these were on point. We ordered the Chicken Achari. This was found lacking in flavour and authenticity and not one I will be ordering again. The spicy fish curry was superb as was the dosai and the tikka fried eggplant. Few tweaks here and there and this little restaurant could be a gem in the making.

Unassuming, casual eatery but the food speaks for itself. Incredibly fresh and very flavoursome. Get the thali so you can try as much as possible and don’t miss out on the dosas. I look forward to visiting again.

Best Fish curry you could get probably outside of India. Also ask for their signature fish fry kerala style.

We had a non vegetarian thali and a chicken biriyani yesterday.The food was below average.there were 3 types of chicken curries that came with the thali and all of them tasted bad. They got a lot to improve.

Terrible decision to take away Kohlapuri Chicken. Never going back.

We went in at the wee hours of the night to grab a hot chai and filter coffee. Its a minimum of £10 for card payment so had to order something light. We had the medhu vada, masala tea and coffee ordered. It was around 7pm and there was no customers in so had the whole place for ourselves. The vada was super hot and we knew it was freshly made. The chutney and sambhar was average, but we did love it. Masala tea was also top of the mark. But the coffee was too bland for my friend. It came around £12 in total.

I would appreciate any Small business here in boro,but happened to order two masala dosa's via uber eats,the batter was never fermented at the first place,the filling had no spices not even salt !Dosa looked nice but tasted so awful ! Absolute waste of 15 quid ! Sambar was Alright,coconut chutney was the only good thing ! Not ordering again !

Probably the best food I've eaten, the shop has a nice peaceful atmosphere and the workers are lovely. If I could eat anywhere it would be here 100%.

Poor service, poor restaurant ordered veg pulao, panner and butter nan. But veg pulao no spicy and no salty. Panner quantity is very less and staff don’t know anything about the services. I requested a glass of water and staff gave me 1/4 quantity of water in the glass. And card machine doesn’t work owner asked me to go cash machine and pay.

I am really disappointed with food we order paneer Manchurian kheer and dosha everything it's so far away from real test and paneer chill look like paneer masala with cold paneer may be they don't ever eat paneer chill owner also have so much attitude he doesn't understand customers he try to show how good food take longer to cook but food is not good even not enough quantity they give us sambhar also like chatni if anyone wants to spend money for good food go somewhere else I never bother to going this place again pa

Had one of the best food experiences today at Uttapam. Enjoyed my favorite Masala Dosa today and the flavors were amazing. I was so excited and forgot to take a photo. Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in real Indian flavors. The lady who served us was so nice and she took care of my daughter letting us enjoy our food. Everything was spot on. Absolutely loved it.

Lovely and cozy atmosphere. The host is extremely friendly and catered to our needs and was especially tolerant with our kids. The place was clean. Food was lovely and beyond our expectations. Highlights for us were the chicken 65 biryani and the gajar halwa. Highly recommend.

Best of the available south Indian food in Middlesbrough,,this is my 3rd time and first time posting review for uttapam...

I was craving for idli sambhar today and thought would give this a shot despite the poor reviews it got. But I will say it is actually quite nice. We had idli sambhar, medu vada, masala dosa and nonveg thali. I liked the red chutney (its not usual or authentic). Portions for chutneys and sambhar are small but filling. Wished the idli was bit hot... but it was on the colder side. Meduvada was good and hot and dosa was good too. Sambhar was fine and personally i dont like green chutney but my friends said it was fresh. Yay i am not disappointed 😊

This is my first and last time going to this restaurant. Hospitality is very bad and not even welcoming . Food was below average and no good at all. Really not worth the price.

I was lucky enough to eat here last night and what a fabulous meal it was. After recommendations from the lovely owner I tried a couple of dosa starters and a lamb curry, all were delicious, the dosa uttapam in particular. The staff and service were exceptional, we will definitely be back and highly recommend it.

The food appeared fresh and tasty; however, the service was a BIG LETDOWN. Women were handling most of the running around, while the gentleman who claimed to have some authority sat/chatted and did nothing to expedite the service, even though there were fewer tables occupied .

Very authentic tasty and spicy but with rich flavours

The gobi Manchurian was not properly cooked nor cut, its big in pieces so that i couldn't get the whole flavour. I felt i was eating some blanched cauliflower

First time ordering, the curry tasted and smelt strongly of raw onion, I’m guessing it needed cooking out more. I’m sorry to say, but I couldn’t finish it. on the other hand the chicken in the curry was lovely, cooked to perfection. Couldn’t fault that at all. All my sides where lovely too. A shame because i couldn’t finish the curry but I’d come again and give it another go, I’d maybe give another curry ago!

Waste of money and time, order for a mixed fruit shake along with main dish got Berry shake. And the Service was terrible, rude behavior from the staffs.

Unfortunately, I had a rather disappointing experience in Uttapam. I have been there before, when I ordered the Thali Set. My previous experience was a lot more pleasant. This time around, I ordered the Spicy Fish Curry. It came with a serving of boiled rice. The fish curry, was not true to its name. It was not spicy at all. All that I could taste was coconut milk. The taste of the curry was also non-existent. It was bland and lacking in flavour. The Basmati Rice that accompanied the dish was surprisingly clumpy. I do not know if the owner of the restaurant was having a bad day but he spoke to me in a way that was condescending when I asked him a genuine question about the fish curry. Afterwards, he also had what seemed to be a video call in the restaurant while we were having our meals. It was slightly off-putting. I really wish I could have said otherwise about Uttapam as I was really looking forward to it being a restaurant known for its South Indian cuisine, but I left being humbly dissapointed.

Have been there for lunch..ordered chicken biriyani (9.95 pounds) karakk tea ( traditional cup) (1.25 pounds)..taste was okay😌..biriyani quantity was enough..but karakk tea was served in a small cup( dont know whether it is the same in all restaurants)..customer service was good.

What a great food experience we had! On a drive down from Newcastle we stopped over at this absolutely delightful Indian restaurant... The ambience is superb, with these huge oil paintings, custom painted, we've been told.. The service was so welcoming and homely but very professional too.. The main highlights were obviously the food. We tried the veg Thali, medu wada, butter chicken, the fish curry, naan and mango lassi and masala chai...and each one was a authentic throwback to the genuinenindian food that we get in India.. Special mention for the butter chicken, fish curry, so much do that I took an extra portion home and the naan, the best garlic naan I've had for a long time.. This restaurant is a must visit if you are looking for genujne authentic Indian food with a great ambience... Looking forward to travelling north soon just to stop over for a meal here..

They took a very long time after the order for the food to be served. Food tasted like home cooked food which was ok for me. Overall ok if you like South Indian food.

Poor restaurant, poor ambiance, poor service. Came to this restaurant from the good reviews however dosa wasn’t crispy and vada was pre made and microwaved. Almost everything was microwaved. If you love South Indian food this is not the place. Fresh food not here, host was also not interested. Response from owners comments: The owner clearly cannot take criticism very well and doesn’t take anybody’s comment seriously….have a look at other reviews and his responses. To point out, I never said that Dosa was microwaved, I told you it wasn’t crispy. Which it wasn’t. It was way too soft. Vada and potato stuffing was microwaved, when I went to the washroom, I saw staff member microwaving them. I didn’t say anything at the restaurant because I just want to get the hell out of there. Also, you didn’t ask us how to food was, if you would’ve asked I would’ve given you some straightforward comments. We asked you one question and you give such a blunt response. My advice is to take on this feedback professionally and learn from what people are saying. Rather than dismiss every poor review you get.

The only 1 star that can be given was due to Dosa not being bad. (The sides that came with the Dosa were bad though). On top of that, the service from the male owner (surprisingly Yes, the owner!) is appalling. We went there to support his wife and spread the good news in our community if it turned out to be good but it became quite the opposite. We saw in one of the advertisement posts that the female owner is a fellow NHS worker. We feel bad for her. You will also see how he replies to the other negative reviews aggressively/sarcastically. It is obvious that good and polite customer service cannot be expected by reading those replies alone. We are never going back.

The food quality here is not bad … I would say average Southern Indian food … We had Dosa and Medu Vada … Dosa was good but Medu Vada were pre-fried and definitely microwaved before coming to us (not crispy at all) … The main thing to comment about this place was service … very poor and not attentive at all … The guy standing at the counter (seemed like the owner) just kept using his phone and ignoring us for few times when we want to order more foods … I would not recommend this place to anyone who is expecting good service from this average Indian restaurant …

The food was Okay, but the customer service was so bad. One of my friend was humiliated my the owner. They act so inhuman and no manners to begin with. Not sure , how do you take customer review personal and offensive. Whole point of customer feedback is to change negatives for your upcoming service. Think about the humiliation you cause by judging a person. My friend ended up paying the money. Your card reader and system has some issues. That’s the polite way to talk to people.

At this restaurant the owner lady at the till was so arrogant and abusive. My card got declined at payment. The entire payment failed. I wanted to use another card. Before I could, she started yelling, started talking to the other patrons and told everybody around that I don't have any money and humiliated me in front of everybody. I had to leave due to this reason. This is the worst feeling ever. If the service is this dreadful and humiliating, no one should go there. Their restaurant is such that they blame other people for their failures. And this is the reply I got from the restaurant, " I think you are exaggerating the point here, you didnt have money in your account to pay for the meal and humiliated yourself. We pride ourselves on providing good customer service. Maybe read the reviews of other customers on our customer service. Secondly as admitted by yourself your card was declined so dont know how that is our failure. As advice I would suggest ensuring you have sufficient funds to pay for your meal to avoid such issues." Not only have they taken no responsibility for their bad mouthing me in front of other customers or for their card machine system failing. Not sure how they pride themselves on this worst customer service. The lady at the till still randomly assumes that I have no money in my account. Not sure how she is qualified to make such a remark when she can barely operate her own computer because the entire system froze. FYI the customer in front of me also had card trouble. The restaurant has a faulty payment system. She was okay with them trying the payment again. It was only with me that she chose to behave like this. Visit this restaurant if you want your food with a side of the worst human behaviour possible from a short sighted owner who will randomly belittle you.

Absolutely brilliant South Indian food. Excellent service from the team, Siva and Latha. Myself and my partner we enjoyed the food thoroughly. The traditional coffee and masala tea was good. Dosa and thali set + fried fish was amazing . Will definitely go back again .

Best tasting South indian food I have had in the UK. Taste is different and authentic. You can taste the freshness of the food unlike most restaurants these days. The spices are fresh and the right amount to make the food authentic. Highly recommended

Uttapam has become my favourite Go to Indian restaurant. Yesterday had the most delicious South Indian spicy fish curry accompanied with Fried fish coated in Indian spices. Absolutely amazing food. Owners and staff very warm and welcoming. Feels like eating at home.

Uttapam is my favorite Indian restaurant. Being a strict vegetarian there are not many options in the North East but Uttapam goes over and beyond making the best tastiest vegetarian dishes. staff and owners always ready to make my dining experience great. I highly recommend you to visit once.

Was introduced to Uttapam by my family, had the best vegetarian food, after a long time I felt like I was eating home cooked food rather than being in a typical restaurant. Service is great and staff are attentive. I look forward to my next visit.

Aye the butter chicken curry was probably the best curry Ive ever had and the parathas are to die for.
