Not great. The food took nearly an hour. The service is really bad, like they don't want you there. My husband had a long hair in his food as well. Not worth the price. The food is bland. It's a shame as we went when it was Urys, it was so much nicer.

We recently visited Ury for Saturday night curry and drinks with friends. Unfortunately, we found it to be quite an unfriendly atmosphere with outdated decor. The food was mediocre and the menu has no allergy information. I am celiac and have a reaction if I eat gluten. We asked the waiter what I could eat and he pointed out a few dishes. I'm not sure whether the kitchen was informed of my celiac (to avoid cross contamination), but I was certainly given gluten that night, as I was quite poorly later. I don't think they take allergies very seriously, as there was no clear allergy information or gluten free menu, you just had to take the waiters word for it. I was also given someone else starter and had to swap around, which makes me think the food was not prepared separate and my allergy was forgotten about.

Food was alright, nothing special, atmosphere of restaurant is really bland and dated. Service really slow, took 1 hour to get our curries when there were barely any people in the restaurant and don't even ask if you want any water at the beginning of the meal. They add a 10% service charge to the bill but I don't think they really deserve it.

A Positive Experience with Room for Improvement I had the opportunity to dine at the URY Restaurant last year while traveling to Scotland with a large group of tourists. Despite accommodating two full buses of hungry guests, the restaurant was well-maintained and efficiently managed. As a vegetarian, I was pleased with the initial efforts made to cater to my dietary needs. However, with a larger group and heightened appetites, the experience could have been even smoother. During a recent attempt to revisit, I found the vegetarian options to be somewhat limited. I would strongly recommend expanding the vegetarian menu to better cater to a wider range of preferences.

Amazing food, all cooked to perfection and had amazing taste. Service was excellent from the staff the whole night, would highly recommend, will be going again.

We tried the corporate banquet and the food was so tasty. I'd definitely recommend and the meat was cooked to perfection. We'll definitely be back.

Went with friends for the first Time, won’t be going again, over priced for what you got chicken tikka masala only 4 pieces of chicken , lamb jalfrezi sauce looked and tasted it was out of a jar, 2 chapatis were £5.99 they were small hard and cold sent over £50 on 2 curries worst I’ve had in a long time, avoid

UPDATE 16.11.24 (Previous review from a year ago still stands). The same three pals and I returned, bang on a year after our first visit. We had been to the same venue over the water too, earlier on. This time it was busy! Grub was top. My Seekh Kebab starter and Spiced Beef Roast really worked well for me. Downers? Ok it could do with a lick of paint throughout and not all the staff had a solid grasp of 'The Queen's' (as ace as they were). Give it a try for top scran. Alongside three pals I hit this curry house before heading over the river to a certain well known concert venue. We hadn't planned to go, but it was prime tea-time and bellies rumbled. We were the only folks in (18.00 Saturday night) by chance. I scored a lamb madras and shared a big naan bread and a few rice's. Very decent grub! Zero colonic repercussions after which is always a bonus, whilst Kingfisher lager hit the spot too. Not perhaps a dead trendy joint, but head down for a fully respectable feed all round.

1st visit to Ury on Queen Street, Quayside. Definitely won't be the last! Absolutely amazing Sri Lankan food! The crab was absolutely amazing, definitely worth the mess my other half ended up in 🤣 Staff were lovely and very helpful with side dish recommendations based on mains ordered. So pleased to have found genuinely authentic Sri Lankan food in the North East.

Nice cosy place with a vibrant atmosphere. Food is out of this world made freshly to order and flavours are constantly exploding. Will definitely be back again soon to one of the best curry houses I have been to in a long long time.

An odd little restaurant with zero atmosphere. Despite not many customers, the service was painfully slow. Whilst we chose this place for the Sri Lankan food, which was fairly authentic, it felt like they were just trying to cut costs with lower quality food and smaller portions. The chicken lamprais had one tiny morsel of chicken, and the rest was just rice. Bit of a rip-off for food, and the price of a beer was extortionate.

The waiting time is 45 minutes. The food is served cold. Found hair in the food. No taste for good. Very bad quality. Really disappointed. Not recommended at all. Better to go to khai khai restaurant which os next door.

We have been to this restaurant recently, very bad experience. After placing the order it took almost an hour to get the food to the table. The food served was very bad and we got a hair from the poori we ordered. Biriyani felt like pulav and mixed with the non- veg type you ask with. Dosa served was cold and felt like cooked long before. Please choose wisely and opt other options available nearby.

This is one of the best Keralan / Sri Lankan restaurants in the UK. The food from the first smell and taste, brought us back to memories of Southern India. When the food touches your soul you know it is made with passion. I highly recommend people to try the South Indian / Sri Lankan food options. Such as Kothuroti, dosa and Lamprais. Can't wait to go back again to try the fish fry and beef fry with porotta and a pint of refreshing Kingfisher. Don't stop with the savoury and finish with some Watalappam, which is a Sri Lankan coconut custard pudding. I don't think I can recommend this restaurant more highly than I do. Food will take time to cook but be patient as it is worth it but portions are huge so hunger will be quenched. Ordered: Beef dosa, beef lamprais, devilled squid, kothuroti, pint of Kingfisher and Watalappam. Try to not order the usual north Indian curry, rice and poppadoms as you can get this anywhere.

The food was mediocre and the fire alarm was going off the whole time

I engagaed Ury to cater for my party at home. We had 100 guests. the party was held in a garden marquee. The whole experience with Ury was excellent, from the initial meetings to discuss the menu to the food and service on the day. The senior management took a personal interest. The restaurant manager was most helpful and accommodating in the planning of the menu, and we had a tasting session to confirm the choices. The Communication was excellent throughout. Ury staff attended on the day and were helpful, courteous and highly professional. My guests and I were delighted with the quality of the food. My thanks to Ury staff and management for an excellent day.

Not fresh smell or hygiene was very poor. Food was not at all good . Very thick naan . Definitely need to change ambience and more cleanliness needed.

We went on a Tuesday evening. As a group of 8 we were the only table in the restaurant. It smelt of drains which was a put of for me. The starters came which were nice however one came 30 mins after the others. Same with the main course. Would hate to see it on a busy evening . Won't go back

Not good food it’s just fake microwave food taste pathetic. The biriyani was so dry hence they serve with that sauce I was wonder why biriyani should come with sauce . The masala dosa served with drumstick sambar they microwave it so hot until drumsticks become a just sticks . The coconut chutney was horrible and the starter full of ketchup they said it’s chilli chicken. No wonder I was alone at restaurant. Never go back again .

The food was amazing, I really want to give it more than 5 stars but amazingly it was very quiet for a Saturday night so didn't have the best atmosphere. But please don't let that put you off as the food is up there with the best. Highly recommend the Kingfish, it's incredible !

They have wide range of Sri Lankan food and spicy level. English and Sinhala speaking friendly staff. They were very helpful when selecting food from the menu. Setting is also decent and calm. They have cocktails and wines. Kottu is really nice and delicious. Lamprais is really authentic Sri Lankan taste.

Had high hopes after having a look at reviews. Really. And if you visit please avoid using toilets, they had spider webs in there.Very bad smell coming outside Not impressed.

May be the food I ordered was not their best , which made me really sad. I ordered their rice and lentil doughnuts and masala dosa , both where a not ok . I felt it was not fresh. There are many restaurants near this which sells the same north Indian food but very less which has south Indian options . I especially went in for that and thought of trying these and order more . I’m very sorry to say it was a very disappointing experience for me . But the platter ordered by husband was fresh and nice and he liked it . Please look in all the menu so that is not an experience like mine any more .

Having been to Sri Lanka and having friends and family there, I know what the food is like. The food is as close as possible to the real thing and tastes great. Had dinner on Mother’s Day. Very disappointed with the quality of food. Idli was lumpy and hard, sambar and rasam with no flavour, Biryani was cooked with frozen vegetables and it was sticky and flavourless. I would never go there again.

Booked in here for Valentine's dinner, would never eat here again Service wise...It took 45 mins to get our starters and 1hr20 to get our mains, I had to ask the waiter numerous times for a glass of water before getting one Food wise... Hit and miss. The starters were alright, we ordered the lentil donuts, the paneer Tikka and the lamb chops. Lentil donuts were surprisingly tasty - they are savory, the paneer Tikka was bland, and the lamb chops were cold... So it wasn't a great start. We went for the old delhi butter chicken and the chicken Tikka masala dosa for our mains. After waiting for 1hr20 to get them, let me tell you, they were definitely NOT worth the wait. The butter chicken was room temp, it had tasted as though it had been left for 30 mins to cool down before being brought out to us. Furthermore the chicken in the chicken Tikka masala dosa was hard as a rock and overcooked. I would have been better off adding a tesco meal deal side of chicken Tikka to my dosa and it would have turned out better. The masala and dahl from the dosa was okay, but the chicken, I didn't even bother eating. The coconut chutney it came with was dry and didn't taste any coconut chuntneys I've ever had in the past, I was just very disappointed with the meal altogether. I did explain the situation about the chicken to the waiter, and he seemed unfazed and unbothered. Very disappointed with the service. £75 down the drain for one of the worst Indian meals I've ever had in Newcastle. South Indian/Sri Lankan food can be so delicious, but Ury is NOT the place to go if you want that.

Really disappointed very slow service waited over 15 mins for drinks , food was not of a good standard. Starters were ok but very dry and hard lentil Pattie , you could have used it as a weapon it was so hard and dry. . They served the family nann bread fifteen minutes before main course arrived therefor it was stone cold by the time the main courses arrived. Waited so long for a fresh nann the food was eaten as was getting cold waiting . Couldn’t eat the beef it was absolutely disgusting tough and over spiced to hide the poor quality of the meat, , the whole meal was the worst we as a family have eaten and would never recommend to anyone.

The atmosphere and seating is good. Service was on the spot. Food items were mostly good except the plain dosa I ordered. We ordered a queen's platter, prawn curry and biryani which were very good. Plain dosa, sambhar and chutney was not good at all.

Highly recommended for Sri Lankan food.

Although the food menu isn't as extensive as other desi restaurants in the area, you will still be spoiled for choice as all the items are presented masterfully. Absolutely in love with the black chicken and all their roti options. Service was excellent as well. We had a baby that decided not to be cooperative that night, and they kindly offered us a table in another room that was more spacious and allowed the baby to roam around and not disturb the other guests in the restaurant. Although it's an older restaurant and the decor is not as glitzy as its neighbours, don't sleep on their offerings as it's got great food at a fair price.
