Upton Fish Bar in Northampton

The usual dried out fish, probably cooked hours ago. Soggy chips. How hard can it be to cook fish and chips??!! Doesn't anyone in Northampton cook fresh anymore Not much flavour.

I frequently use the Upton Fish Bar. The establishment is always very clean and tidy, the staff are extremely friendly and keen to assist and serve the customers. Customer service is awful, staff look so beyond miserable, no manners at all. So disappointing because the food is pretty good. Doesn’t take much to smile…

Super service from a local chippy. I am a fussy reviewer and never give five stars, so not Michelin star. However you get superb service and good food from a local take away. Ordered meal for ten diners and the order was bang on and food of a good standard. Thoroughly recommend!!

Today was our first visit to the Upton fish bar and we we're really impressed! Food was fantastic! Fish was thick and perfectly cooked and chips were delicious, prices we're very reasonable and the gentleman that served us and cooked our order was very helpful and welcoming! We'll definitely be visiting again! Thank you ☺️

Large chips £4.90 were more like a cone of chips. And were stone cold by the time we got home and we live in Upton.

Disappointment again. I had a mixed meat burger a while back and it was so nice. Since then I've had mixed meat burgers on two occasions... Consisted of dry meat and buns that crumble and fall apart as soon as you attempt to pick the burger up. Also I don't recommend the mozzarella sticks. You get six for £6.50, they are smaller than a finger, dry, barely taste any cheese. Don't even come with a dip. Complete rip off. Won't be buying food from here again.

Had heard great reports of this place so after many years decided to give their Fish & Chips a try. A bit more expensive than most other places so I was expecting really good quality, however, the fish was undercooked and soggy and the batter wasn't particularly crispy. Chips looked and tasted like oven chips ( although I know they were not). Sorry but I'll not be back

Chicken was overcooked so dry and hard. Chips were hit and miss. Prices are very high in comparison to other local chipies.

Friendly atmosphere, excellent service chips to die for . Highly recommended . Sunny is a brill bloke good larf

Nice place, with a benefit of a £5 meal with a pie, chips and gravy. Not the best I’ve ever had, but unbeaten on prices.

This place used to be great worth traveling to but had fish and chips last night not only did the chips taste funny like burnt oil etc and large chips looked like a small portion Won't be going back

Well. This was once the best fish and chips around. How things have changed. £9.50 for a piece of frozen fish. Could have gotten better from Iceland. Never again.

Disappointed on the last two occasions. Fish tastes old and had been cooked too long.

Has really gone down hill. Taking often takes 5-10 minutes to order then another 5-10 to get your food. Lots of staff but most are focusing on pick up orders. Price has gone up alot more than other fast food restaurants.

Got home to notice they hadn’t given me my large cod. Ruined dinner to be honest as that is the star of the show and meant I just had chips instead. I did call and they said they could send one out but being now 7pm on a Friday night I was over it by that point and we are a 15 min drive away so I wasn’t going back in. Also I’d have to go back down to be refunded the cod. All a massive huge inconvenience which I can’t be bothered with. I think more care needs to be taken as the woman was shouting across the shop wether my sausage I ordered was battered or not but maybe just check what you were putting in when you served me? Who knows but either way not a great first experience and won’t be returning. Also my partners burger and sausage weren’t that great and we felt as though this place is deeply over rated, not to mention a rip off .

Don’t know what has happened, it used to be such a good takeaway. Ordered Scampi and a Kebab. Scampi was average, Kebab was awful, meat tasted rank and pitta bread stale The lady serving was having an argument in the phone and several people walked out before being served, wish we would have but had already paid. She certainly isn’t an asset to front of house Won’t ever go there again

We have been using Upton fish bar for a few years and it has been good However the last few months it’s fallen short of the normal expectations The fish is not cooked as it was also more batter on the fish. finally fish an chips take away has always been value for money- £18 for fish and chip takeaway is too rich to swallow Better to go to restaurants and sit down and enjoy hot fish and chips

Absolutely no problem with the food, we return a few times a month guaranteed. Service pace depends on who is working.

Ordered food tonight, went into to collect. Had a short wait but food was worth the wait! Food and service were spot on! Well done guys!

Ordered meal and then waiting an hour and ten minutes for food to be delivered, order then came wrong and cold they tried to argue that we didn’t order chips when we did. They then offered to send some chips out and we asked for no salt and vinegar they then got delivered with salt and vinegar on. No apologies or anything All together the meal has been a mess and I won’t be using this fish and chips place again.

Absolutely love this chippy, the fish is lush and the chips are great too. Sometimes it can be quite busy especially on a Friday night but they have lots of members of staff able to take orders quickly.

Ordered dinner for four. All was delicious. The service in the shop is pretty bad, they dont acknowledge you for ages. Unfortunately the person who had the burger got food poisoning & was throwing up until 4am.

I called up to place an order for my 80year old nana as she is not feeling very well and I always order her fish and chips every single Saturday I placed my order for one large cod and chips gave them the adress the lad on the phone didn’t tell me how long it was going to be he was not very formal and didn’t really care I told my Nan that I’ve placed the order it should be there within the hour and she thanked me however 1:30 hours past still nothing the chippy called me back up to verify my nans adress I was polite and gave them the adress for the second time at this point my Nan was losing hope she said she will wait an extra half hour and I said ok half an hour past and I called her to see if it had arrived still nothing she toled me to cancel it I have screenshot proof of how many times I called the fish bar and it went straight to voicemail over 14 times witch has led me to believe my number has been blocked my Nan resulted into having a plain ham sandwich for her lunch and she told me she wasn’t going to bother no more Upton fish bar is not recommended at all from me I’ve seen pictures of there food and to be honest it looks dry and not tasteful it doesn’t look fresh

I used this establishment for the first time today after listening to many friends favourable comments. The wife and I were very very pleased with our takeaway food . Scampi and chips plus a Donna kebab The food was delicious and the accompanying salad was as fresh as a daisy Well done indeed to all the people involved Keep up the good work 👍

Awful! Walked in, said hello to the staff who completely ignored us. Waited patiently to order, were the only people in the shop at this point but still ignored. Two other people come in waiting to order, the man asks if they have no fish, they speak to him despite us waiting, then being him round and take his order before they take ours. We just walked out due to the blatant rudeness, no customer service at all. Would not recommend.

The service is ok, a little bit slow and the staff don't seem very enthusiastic. The presentation is neat and on the boxes food is served in it has a fact about fish and chips! Portions are quite big and have not much salt or vinegar. Overall it is ok!

It is a long time since I have tasted fish and chips so good. They had been freshly cooked, were still hot when we got them home and it was a really good sized portion. Will certainly be buying from there again.

I do feel they concentrate on their online orders at the cost of those who turn up and they're not as pleasant when they're busy as they could be. Food is good though, one of the best in town and that's obviously important. They just need to make it seem like they enjoy having customers.

This has been a brilliant discovery, the food is excellent, always quick to deliver and because of that hot and tasty! Love it.

Clean and tidy shop. Staff are polite. Hence the 3 stars. The food was a tad bit disappointing. The portions are served in boxes so a large portion of chips looks the same as a regular. Also, the chips were dry and looked overcooked. The cod was lovely but the price for a large didn't match the size. They also do kebabs and burgers (which I haven't tried yet) and a range of soft drinks. Payment can be made via cash or card.

Lovely food, staff are very hard working as it's always so busy when I've visited! It would be nice if the entire menu was available on the click and collect service, but it's not the end of the world, still lovely good quality food.

“Simply the best” Simply the best fish & chips I have ever had. Very reasonably priced and the service was very friendly and efficient. Portions were also very generous.

Awful customer service and took over 2 HOURS for a simple order in which we live down the road I'm appalled at this. Not only was it late and cold half our food did not show up and I paid full price for it. Ridiculous. After all of this, not even an apology. Would not recommend food wasn't even good.

Second customer in . before i new it ,shop was full of people waiting on orders due to them serving telaphone orders . I think it would be polite to tell you there is a wait time for chips and other orders before they take you're money .

Been going here since it opened, ive tried many of the other (highly rated) chip shops and this one definitely cuts it. There chips are good, the fish batter is done well and isnt dripping in fat, and there kebabs, halumi bites and burgers are delicious. Pre warned they give you very healthy portions (i like my food and even i struggle to manage the whole portion)

Had a handful of visits and have always been happy with the food.( till you started covering the fish with chips ) One young staff member needs to turn their frown upside down if they are the first point of contact, as it’s not the warmest of welcomes. Lovely food , but even when we request not too, our fish is smothered with chips, which makes it sweat and by the time your home it’s soggy! DONT DO IT!!!’ I don’t get why you would do this 🤷🏼‍♀️

Best Chip Shop in town...Fantastic fish & chips.

After being sick of my own cooking in lockdown we decided to have a takeaway, my partner looked around for a chippy and had heard great things about Upton Fish Bar so we decided to give it a try. I can honestly say its definitely one of the best chip shop I have ever tasted, highly recommend! I struggle to understand why this place has 1 star reviews, will be using this place from now on even if it is a little drive away from us. Prices are fantastic too especially compared to the generous portion sizes!

Long wait-I was the second customer (1st had an easy order) as there was nothing ready. Guy prepping food also handling cash-not hygienic. Food was ok.
