Early evening visit on a warm summers day found the outdoor seating already full. Plenty of spaces indoor though. Good choice of beers and food provided is by "pop-up" kitchens. On the day, The Kent Sausage Company" were in attendance.

Located in west Hythe, near the canal, it's the perfect place to relax after a river walk, for a drink and something to eat. Good quality food is reasonably priced and they have a variety of local ales. Outside and inside seating ( outside best in good weather ) , this tranquil little pub/restaurant with it's warm welcome and friendly staff, is a must visit. They even have snacks and water bowls for your pooch ( if you have one ! ).

Travelled down from Leicestershire to see family who live locally. Popped in for lunch. Absolutely fantastic. Scampi and Nacho portions huge and great value for money. More importantly as I'm in the pub trade myself, the beer was absolutely spot on. Highly recommended.

Always come down here with friends and family. It’s a great place for a drink or casual dining, especially if the sun is shining. Different food vendors each weekend which is great. The baby changing facilities are awesome which is a real plus and rare sometimes, and the staff are always friendly and attentive.

This brilliant little bar next to the Royal Military Canal in West Hythe has to be one of my favourite places. A walk alongside the canal first in preparation for the delights from the kitchen. Options of real ales or a variety of local ciders. You can even buy takeouts. Great kitchen offering delicious food with guest chefs towards the weekend. I had nachos on my last visit and they were good. Baked goodies like chocolate brownies etc. Even a bag of old school sweets if you like them. Staff are efficient and friendly and the areas are always kept clean. This has to be one of my favourite places.

Another Thursday visit to the Pizza Night. The thin and crispy bases just about take the weight of the generous standard four toppings--more are available--and what you then end up with is a pizza that in our view outclasses all others, be it from local or foreign restaurants. Put that together with a terrific choice of drinks and a friendly atmosphere where tables and conversations are readily shared and you get the picture. Then there are the responsible dog owners who can feed their pets from a selection stand of free nibbles with nobody objecting in the slightest--and why would they ?

This was recommended by a neighbour so we gave it a go. We were a bit thrown by fact that there are two businesses in there, one selling drinks and the other the food, one takes Amex (food) the other doesn't. Coffee was fine and the toasties and soup did the job OK. We had to move nearer the fire as it was a tad cold, and that was before the current cold snap. Will definitely come back.

What a lovely find! Came across this by chance when looking for somewhere dog friendly to pop into while walking along the canal and wasn't disappointed. Felt really welcome, the drinks were good, the glasses they were served in were lovely (I have a thing about glasses!) The Pizzas were delicious, one of the best Pizzas I've ever eaten and the atmosphere was lovely. So many lovely dogs and everyone was chatting outside. The water and snacks station was a great addition. A truly welcoming place for all the family, wouldn't hesitate to recommend or return!

Having popped into Unit 1 on a handful of occasions for a coffee or pint before, during and after a dog walk along the canal we decided to book a table and eat in. It was a beautiful day so both inside and outside were very busy. We ordered our food to be told it was busy so we could be waiting a 'while'. Not an issue really but at no point were we updated on the progress and after 1 hour 10 minutes we decided to enquire to be told there were 2 orders in front of us. About 15 minutes later our food came and it was very good, our only issue was that there was no apology from the staff or a manager. I think the good weather had caught them on the hop a bit which is totally understandable but I think the lack of communication took the edge off what was otherwise a very pleasurable experience. Great relaxed atmosphere, plenty of water and (free) treats on offer for the dogs so we will definitely be returning. Maybe a little of educating to the staff on the customer service side ?

Dropped in on a recommendation after a walk along the canal. The cake and drink we had was lovely and the atmosphere was great, nice vide and friendly. Our only criticism is service, slow, very slow. I get it you want to make good coffee but it seemed the barista could only make one cup at a time and I really felt for the lad who ordered a cuppa tea and stood there for 10 mins waiting for someone to pop a bit of water in a mug, we had a chuckle about it whilst he waited. Nice place though and would return.

We were visiting the local area and stumbled across this delightful place by accident as cycling along Royal Military Canal. Chuffed we did as what a gem of a spot. Very relaxed and welcoming. Excellent sitting area outside which has shaded spots. While inside is lovely and cosy with log burner (sadly not cold enough to be on for our visit) . It seems dogs welcome outside and in with plenty of drinking bowls. Staff very approachable and friendly. You get coffee and cake, or fine selection of bar drinks. It seems food set up at lunch times is a pop up style kitchen so varies on different days. We were there ‘Mexican’ day and really spot on - reasonably priced and well yums! Then onto drinks - fabulous range of local draught beers (some draught from micro brewery around the corner - Hopfuzz) plus a cider (which you can get as take out) . But for me Baileys coffee a complete must.

We'd heard great things about Unit 1 from a number of friends. When we kayaked along the canal we were delighted to find it open and serving food. It was a short menu but the burgers were perfection. Not too huge to eat, beautifully cooked and very tasty. The price was extremely good value for money, I'd say cheap! We enjoyed it so much that we returned a week later. This time I sampled Unit 1's own lager. Really really nice. Planning on returning very soon.

I was so looking forward to my birthday lunch with friends at Unit 1, it looked like somewhere different to go. I was so disappointed, all the food they had to offer was pre-packed sandwiches (as you buy is petrol station or supermarket) and a few sweet treats. Nowhere on their website did it give this information, if it had I wouldn't have bothered. If they were not prepared when restrictions got lifted, they shouldn't have opened!! It has certainly put me off going there again.

We have been to unit 1 several times after it was recommended by a neighbour. For us it’s a lovely walk along the canal footpath for about a mile which is just enough in this heat to work a thirst up which once your there is quenched by a selection of 2-3 ales 2-3 lagers and 4-6 ciders of various flavours. All of which have have been delightful. The place itself has a pop up bar casual feel with all of the drinkers we’ve met being social and friendly create a really good vibe to the place. The staff are helpful and polite and the setting next to the canal is a lovely bonus. The kitchen has alternate chefs cooking their own unique dishes and changes weekly. Fresh handmade pizzas are on Thursday nights and are superb. All of the prices are very reasonable for both the beer and food and is well worth the visit. I would check their site or Facebook page for opening times before planning a visit. Great place what a find.

Kind of loathed to give the secret away: but this place definitely deserves an excellent rating. It’s not fancy but that’s ok since they aren’t trying to be pretentious in any way. This is a nice place for a pint or 2 of good quality ale, lager or cider. Served in a friendly way with good cheap and interesting food. If you want shiny stainless steel and glass in a bar room style this place isn’t for you. But if, like us, you want an honest bar that isn’t threatening (no tv screens showing sports) or massively overpriced (all of the food is under £10 and pints are less than £4) then this will suit. It’s also nice as it sits on the canal path and therefore is somewhere to walk to. Good concept; well executed.

I've been here a few times this year. The friendly, cosy atmosphere is great. The canal side location perfect but not sure the food element is quite right yet. Each week different food suppliers serve their 3 choice menu. One day we turned up but there was no food left even though it was only 2.30pm. This week I had burger and fries, but the fries were stone cold. I'll still go there but I'll probably eat first next time.

Have dined here on more than one occasion and it's been satisfactory but with the odd hitch. Last year, the dish ordered was available and later the server returned to say it was not available - this can happen and it's not the end of the world. Last month, I ordered the lasagne and whilst well cooked it had a peculiar acidic taste which I assumed was a citrus "twist" and speciality of the house. Afterwards, however, noticed quite a lot of digestion discomfort. Am left uncertain as to a future visit. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Ordered through just eat, after 1.5 hours we called and the restaurant seemed to somehow have no started the order, was sorry and the food came about 40 mins later. One Pizza we ordered was for the kids to share, but they werent able to eat it as we had to put them to bed due to the time. These were expensive pizzas, £16 each roughly, the photos looked like high quality pizzas and at that price you would expect a decent pizza as its not something that should be hard to mess up. I started eating it and there was a very unusual taste. I had never tasted anything like it before on any pizza I have ever had, the cheese have a very weird consistency, texture and taste. I realised a few bites in it tasted like the dairylea cheese triangles, I havent eaten one in decades, but thats what it was like. I genuinely didnt eat any more of it, it was just so weird. My partner had a salmon pasta dish which was fine, but I paid £60 for food that came so late my kids werent able to eat it and no one ate either of the pizzas, I picked off some of the pepperoni and put it in the bin. I hate giving a bad review, but honestly I feel like in this case it was so unusual that maybe this feedback will be helpful, maybe something was off that night or they had to get an inferior cheese etc. but it was absolutely the strangest pizza I have ever tasted. I do feel like the delay was a genuine mistake and the guy who I spoke to did deliver it himself as he promised, honestly if the pizza was ok, not even anything special just actual mozarella, I wouldnt have reviewed, but this left a bad taste in my mouth literally and figuratively so I wanted to offer the feedback.
