Dissapointingly dirty! The tea's are weak & tasteless. Coffee is nice, but nothing I would rave over. They use plastic cups, which harbour the taste of previous uses so I alway's order drinks in a take-away cup instead and besides the place is definately not clean, very grimy so I am dubious... We ate rheir once and had swert potato fries they whete nice, but we passed the gungy sauce bottle. This place is a great udea, concept but falls short on the cleanliness rating. Staff friendliness is like the cleanliness of the place, hit & miss. Some of the staff are 'nice' but some their are miserable and obtuse. We stopped going as there are better places to eat & drink in the Baltic, this is not one of them.

Had breakfast here instead of eating the self-serve bland hotel offering. Was very impressed, the staff were friendly and efficient, the food came in well presented and generous portions, tasted excellent, as did the coffee. My only negatives would be the men's toilet door would not close and the draft from the sliding doors if someone left them open. Otherwise, highly recommended

The place used to be a glass factory buy it was converted into a hub of startups, including a quirky and well-designed cafe. the place is decorated with sompe materials such as natural wood and metal piping which creates a harmonious atmosphere. We've noticed it's an eclectic place with a hoid mix of all agesand with good music. The service is friendly and polite as well, they really fit in with the image of this cafe. The coffee was the best that i've tried in Liverpool so far. I visited again for breakfast at the weekend, the menu had changed slightly but I liked the sound of the cinnamon and raisin bagel served with fruit, yoghurt and maple syrup and cinnamon butter. The coffee shop was fairly empty on a Saturday morning and I found a nice table at the back. The barista serving was pleasant and cheery although the service was a little slow. I think this was due to only having one member of staff serving/ making drinks and one member of staff doing food so every time a customer came in, the girl making drinks had to stop so she could take orders. Not her fault and she was pleasant but perhaps it is a good idea to have two people on the counter, especially at weekends. Really enjoyed the flat white coffee, couldn't fault it. I was a little disappointed with my breakfast option though, it was literally dripping with melted cinnamon butter which made it messy to eat. There was a small pot of yoghurt with some mixed berries and a teeny drizzle of maple syrup and there was no spoon given so I used the teaspoon for my drink to eat it. It was OK, I think a lot less butter and a lot more maple syrup would have made it perfect. Overall, this is a nice place with excellent coffee, just a few minor points with regards to service lets it down a tad. Saying that, I'd be happy to visit again and the barista serving drinks and taking orders on her own did a stellar job.

Enjoyed a lovely relaxed breakfast this morning at Unit 51. We arrived at 11am on the bank holiday Saturday to avoid the enviable rush. We needed time away from our projects to unwind and enjoyed 90 mins to order, enjoy and chat our sourdough toast with sausage and my favourite the Unit 51 home made granola. The staff are friendly and do there utmost to keep the customers happy but be warned they only have a small kitchen and can be overwhelmed during weekend breakfast/brunch so you don't expect fast service at these times. Unit 51 acts a as hub for the artistic community of the Baltic Triangle and during the week is often used as a meeting place for local micro-businesses. I frequently take advantage of the convenient parking and free WiFi and spend a couple of hours there during the week with laptop, cake and Cappuccino this is where Unit 51 shines. Another tip is that everyday they offer a special but this will sell out quickly and the kitchen closes for hot food at lest an hour before that official closing time after which only drinks and cakes are served. See you down there!

Firstly the positives; food was nice and reasonably priced. The place is stylish with a hip, laid back feel (a bit too laid back as the staff seem to adopt that approach to customer service).A came here on a Sunday morning (around 11am) with a group (3) of friends and were greeted by two members of staff gabbing by the door. After a period of standing there we interrupted their conversation to ask if there was any tables available. "Sit anywhere, and order at the till was the reply" . Tempted to leave we decided to give it a go anyway. On the table there was only lunch menu's, no breakfast. So I approached the bar and asked could I have a breakfast menu "they're on the tables was the reply". Now at this point we did get the feel the staff were a little rude and not best trained in customer service, but again the decision to see this out had been made. So we took a breakfast menu off the bar area and went back to our seats. And at this point I must say 3 different people came to our table asking if we had any menu's, clearly supporting - there were no menus on the tables!Anyway, after a 10 minute queue to order food and drinks we were told it was a 15 min wait for our drinks and unknown on our food. To be fair the drinks arrived within 5-10 mins and were good. The food came out after about 20 mins and by this time my friend had finished her drink. She asked the staff member serving our food "could I get another chai latte", and the staff member said "sorry you have to queue up and order at the bar we don't offer table service"!!!! So my foods just arrived and I'm going to queue up for 10-15 mins just to be told to wait another 15 mins for it to arrive and let my food go cold....? which idiot designed this service...?Anyway as I say the food is nice but I counted 7 staff members, 1 till attendant (who was causing the queue by cutting cake, making coffees and teas). This is obviously directed from management but it's not an effective way to deal with a busy cafe/restaurant, that I'm sure of. As a customer before I revisit this establishment I would like to see a different system introduced. I've been to other establishments in the area that are busier, with less staff operating more effectively.

We went to Unit 51 on Sunday for a breakfast with 2 other friends. We walked in and found ourselves a little lost and had to ask one of the waiters who was heavily involved in conversation if it was alright to sit down. I cleared the dishes from the table myself, and then tried to find more menu for all of us. They had run out of menus for breakfast. Throughout our time the others asked whether they could use our menu, but it was the lunch menu. Clearly others were struggling as well. In order to order the food you have to go up to the bar and queue for one person to take the orders and take the payment as well. The food came and it was great, no doubt about that. But so was my Chai latte. I asked for another as the food came out to us and was told to queue once again. I decided against leaving my hot food and waited until I had finished to get one. I queued for ten minutes while the only person who was taking order and taking payment was also cutting and wrapping cakes for the customers in front of me. It took absolutely ages. When I finally was able to order I was told it would be a 15 min wait for any hot drinks. Completely ridiculous. There are enough employees around, the system needs to change. No contact with any waitresses etc. Nightmare if you want to order anything additional. I didn't bother waiting for that drinks as it would have prolonged our breakfast. Nice food, but very doubtful I will return there again. Also guy bringing out the food really long hair and not tied back at all. Not very pleasant staff at all.

The shabby chicken industrial look is just shabby. The staff are not interested and do not want to be there. Our food took an age to come. My toast was buttered poorly leaving a race track that mo farah would be at home on. The overpriced orange juice tasted like a supermarket value brand. What we have in unit 51 is the culinary version of the emperor's new clothes. Today I am the little boy who sees the reality. Shabby style over content There is an increasing trend for the public to buy into this poor quality establishment under the bourgeoisie theme of trendy. No this is just poor environment and poor food.

One of my favourite place to relax in Liverpool regardless the weather outside. Two things I really like from Unit 51 are: it's located not in the city centre, and the big and airy space in the building. It's not too crowded outside, tends to be a lot quieter than the city centre area. And the interior style, the fact that it's in area full of ex warehouses gives the sense that the industrial-look (hope I'm not mistaken) interior is 'real', the way it ideally is.Either coming alone or with friends, I always enjoy relaxing in this place.

Popped in today for our second visit and to be fair this place is a little gem. Food is fantastic service is spot on, the hot chocolate and variety of cakes are totally lush indeed. If I had one criticism it was the chipped plate picky I know but minor things like that may put customers off.... Keep up the good work guys we will be back for sure

I love the idea of Unit 51; independent with great food and coffee in an interesting part of the city. Unfortunately they have always had an issue with service and certain staple items not being available. This visit didn't have a great start as there wasn't any sourdough bread for the French toast, probably my favourite thing to order (with the side of bacon, naturally!). The next thing was one of our group of four receiving their food a full 15 minutes before the rest of us and finishing before ours had even arrived. It wasn't even a complicated order nor a particularly busy time. As I say, when the food comes it is lovely. The sausages are delicious and sourdough to die for (from the Baltic Bakehouse I think, two minutes up the road). Great coffee too. I think I'll be giving this place a miss until I hear the service has improved. Shame.

After hearing so many people rave about this place in the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool I thought i'd give it a go myself. The location is quite unassuming, Unit 51 is situated along Jamaica Street among former warehouse units, garages etc, so a little bit off the beaten track. Inside was a spacious and bright seating area, the only downside being that almost every table is a wooden bench; I was on my own so it didn't feel cosy and warm but more communal. I'll have to bring people next time I visit. The breakfast menu was varied, there was a good selection from a full English to French toast, granola, there were some nice cakes and pastries on display. I opted for a ham and cheese croissant which was nice, although the cheese was a little bland for me. The flat white was very enjoyable. Service was pleasant. Overall this place does a good cup of coffee but I feel it is more for group gatherings rather than a solo visit for a quiet cup.

I have reviewed Unit 51 before, the food is still excellent and as tasty as it's always been. Service is still slow but worth the wait. Over time, staff seem to have neglected the brushing of the floor and the cleaning of tables. There were no water glasses on our table and when we asked for some we were given some from an empty table. They were so dirty it was disgusting. I went to another table to get more and they were as bad. Overall it's a great place with pleasant staff, just a little more attention to detail is needed.

Went for breakfast here. Very warm, welcoming and the decor is unique and fits the idea of the baltic triangle very well. We decided on just a round of toast each and a drink, the toast was delicious thick white bread with butter and jam on the side. However for 2 rounds of toast and two drinks it totalled to 8.50 something, I think this is a little on the expensive side but the venue makes up for the price. We also waited about 20 mins just for toast and drinks. Would probably visit to try something from the lunch menu if in the area again.

Visited on the recent August bank holiday and it took over 45 minutes for two standard sandwiches. Had to wait twenty minutes for a glass to have some of the water they have on table and when they arrived they were still full of dishwasher water and piping hot. I also had to ask three times for one of the drinks ordered (refund given without request though). Sandwiches were nice enough but nothing that I couldn't have done at home. Could see other tables having a similar experience whilst we were there. Cakes looked delicious but didn't fancy waiting for a slice. Highly unlikely we will be going back.

I do understand the seating and such like is different. Maybe people so well conditioned, lots go for the lounge seats either end.Menu very small and challenging to meet something that will be good. Coffee ok. But did not eat the food it looked like it was served on a plate that was washed in cold greasy water. Not impressed. Also expensive for what it is. Different but not good food. Coffee was ok.

We came for brunch on the weekend as enjoyed a delicious full English, ciabatta sandwich and breakfast sandwich. The coffees are big and the froth on the cappuccino big and frothy! Only negative was that it took quite a long time for our food to arrive so much so that we had drunk most of our coffee by that point. However service was with a smile so we would definitely return!

quite a surprise to find this cafe and, indeed, this whole new area. this is the new Liverpool gentrification. I have been to this cafe twice. Sandwiches are really nice, freshly made with really good quality bread, nice fillings. My friend has had soup twice, on both occasions he was full of praise for the quality of the soup and the fact that it was home-made and fresh. sometimes, home made soup really consists of a instant soup base with a few fresh ingredients thrown in - not this soup. sitting outside in the sun was a pleasure. My only request is that a board or some sort of simple screen is used to dampen the noise of the generator of the food van parked in the layby. it can be a bit noisy outside with the generator on. across the road is a shop which sells tea sets and different sorts of tea leaves. local enterprise that perhaps needs some support.

Popped in last Sunday. Had a yummy haloumi and red pepper ciabatta. Asked for it without chorizo and was offered avocado instead....so friendly, nothing's a bother for the lovely staff. Hubby had 'the best BLT EVER, EVER!' and hasn't shut up about it since! Had to try the cakes....equally scumptious though we had to bring half of his after eight mint brownie home for consumption later that day! Thoroughly recommended...will definitely go back

Popped in for a Friday afternoon coffee and cake. The staff at Unit 51 are always friendly, welcoming and a pleasure to chat to. The glass fronted building is on Jamaica Street, East of the city center, in the heart of the creative Baltic Triangle it is easy to drive to and you have the choice of seating inside and out. Great for a quick snack, informal business brunch or like us today a relaxing tea/coffee and an excellent home made cake. If you are visiting Liverpool a great place for breakfast and inside info on what's going on in the city's art scene.

It is not the place to go if you are in a hurry though. It was very busy and we even waited some time for our coffees. The food is freshly cooked so you have to expect to wait a while for it. Top tip - don't sit by the sliding door on a cold day as some people seem to have difficulty closing it!!!!

We ordered a giant cookie on the second of feb to be collected on the 17th feb giving plenty time for it to be made. The day before pick up I ran the branch and asked about the cookie to which the lady rudely replied she hadn’t got an order and that there was lots of staff so it had gone missing, she didn’t even think to ask what was my order and instead told me to ring back at 4:30pm as she was extremely busy. As this cookie was for an event I didn’t want to risk not getting it and with the employee not really listening and being rude on the phone I went down to speak to her to my Surprise (not) she was not busy instead on her phone with her headphones in I spoke about the issue with the missing order and showed her my receipt to which she replied (I believe you) well I’m glad she did as she took my order on the 2nd. She never apologised or even acknowledges her mistake instead was extremely rude. I’m sure this isn’t the time of person Millie’s wants as the front for there business because I will not be going back and I’m sure others will feel the same if they have to deal with the same rudeness and inconvenience.

My girlfriend asked for a medium strawberry acai with lemonade but no ice and the drink cost £5.60 already for this price you could expect them to fill the cup, instead served a small cup half full, i asked if they could fill it up with lemonade as every other starbucks has done. I had to ask for a refund as i wasnt paying £5.60 for a half drink, we sat down to enjoy some time together and we overheard us them attempt to whisper about me asking for a refund by one staff member to the other and i found this to rude, when all i asked was a simple request. Any other starbucks or even staff have been much more accommodating. Wont be returning and ask people to go to the other starbucks in town centre.
