Uni in Liverpool

We went to UNI last night. The Food was amazing as was the service. The booths are very unique and old skool with good privacy if you want it. It's a very traditional Indian restaurant and I would highly recommend it to anyone. We will definitely be returning.

I found myself in Liverpool City Centre alone. It was late, I was hungry. U.N.I is a proper old skool Indian Restaurant. Strolled in without booking, shown to my own booth. Felt perfectly at ease dining solo. Pops and dips to start, excellent curry, rice, naan. I like spicy... this food ticked that box. Excellent, attentive service. Great price. All in all excellent; certainly happy to recommend.

We arrived late and tried this restaurant as close to our accommodation. The cubicles were novel albeit a bit too warm with curtains closed. We had 4 different main dishes and sides. All very tasty and not greasy. Reasonably priced. We would recommend.

Excellent food and sevice once again at the UNI, great value for money. One of the best indian restaurants in Liverpool.

A regular haunt as a student, I was last here 29 years ago. It was great to see that the curtained booths have been preserved with each redecoration since then. The food was great - not too oily, really tasty and fresh, and for a reasonable price too. Popadums, 2 starters, 2 mains, a side of mutter paneer, coconut rice, 2 paratha, 1 beer and 2 pints of soft drinks came in a whisker under £70. Young waiter, recently arrived from India, was really attentive and chatty, adding to the experience. I’ll try not to leave it so long next time.

Me and a mate out on a Monday afternoon session in Liverpool , stumbled across this place on the walk up to the Philharmonic to watch a gig . Proper old fashioned Indian restaurant , great service , fantastic food , poppadoms with all the trimmings , mixed starters , great main meals and large cobras , no idea how much , my mate treated me for my birthday , but was good value I believe , don’t expect contemporary surroundings and an interesting concept with the cubicles 😂, we would go again for sure if in the area ! It was a trip down memory lane when visiting the UNI and we were delighted to find it was still there and it was just as good as we remembered. The food was delicious and we love the cubicles which with their curtains are cosy and private. The service was perfect and we had a lovely meal in lovely surroundings. We will certainly not leaving it so long before returning again

Arrived without a booking and was greeted and shown to a booth with our very own famous red curtain to close for privacy. All the staff in here are lovely and most definitely have good customer service. We ordered starters and dips that were good and two curries and a number of sides. It was nice and hot but lacked spice for me even though it was two chillies to the menu. we were also given a complimentary chocolate at the end. Enjoyed our evening, but unfortunately, I wouldn't rush back for the food

Popped in for a curry here after being given it as a recommendation from one of the excellent staff members down at The Bridewell pub Excellent service Curry and rice piping hot Great food, couldn’t fault it Garlic rice and garlic naan were superb Will be back and would recommend to all

I first went here in 2000 and it had already estabilished itself as one of the oldest curry houses in Liverpool. Never had a bad curry here. After living abroad and recently returning, I was overjoyed to see it still open having survived recessions and covid. Renshaw St used to be a hive of activity and was a little foodie street before and seemed to dry up when Liverpool One opened. Seems to be on the up again and uni seems to have found a load of new customers. My veggie pathia was epic and the pickle tray generous. Glad to see they still have booths. I'm not a fan of these new places like Mowgli with small plates so would highly recommend it for all fans of an old school curry

Basic Indian cuisine. Nothing special. However we did arrive late and I commend the guys for staying open later than others in the area. The booths with the curtain is cool, so if your looking for privacy then this could be a good place. The service was excellent but not sure I would return.

Great Restaurant with brilliant food - we had a Lamb Passanda and the Razella with Chicken Tikka - amazing tastes. Well with a visit when you are in the City

We stumbled upon this fabulous restaurant while looking for a quick bite to eat and we were blown away! The restaurant itself has such a unique concept! We were seated in one of the several private cubicles, which gave the whole experience such a cosy and warm feeling. The staff were so incredibly welcoming and attentive which was so lovely. The food itself blew both myself and my partner away! The tikka masala was hands down the best I had ever eaten and all the food was such great value for money also! Can’t believe we have only just discovered this place! Will definitely be returning and hopefully with lots of friends!

First time at this little gem of a restaurant, food was delicious, their prices were reasonable compared to many Indian restaurants we have tried around the city. The staff are friendly and attentive. We would highly recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to return again

Great menu, chose a familiar curry dishes and both superb quality. Cannot recommend highly enough. Closing the curtain on our booth ensured an intimate meal without distracts of other customers and staff. Polite and friendly service = top marks again.

Very good food and great service. Great knowledge about allergies . Missed some gluten- and dairyfree dessert on the menu.

Nothing special but food was ok especially the keema nan & others not so authentic.ive going there since it opened. They need to maintain good service & cleanliness were they lack, otherwise its good place to venture.

My parents have been visiting this restaurant since they were students 30 years ago and finally they invited me and my partner along to try it out! The food and the service was great, I particularly enjoyed the pathia, keema nan and rice. My parents also managed to get a photo with a member of staff who helps out with the family business and has been welcoming them since they first visited. I will definitely be visiting the next time I am in Liverpool.

We first went to this restaurant in the late 70s, and its excatly the same. Cant fault the food was very good for a late night curry house.

Visited with a friend on Wednesday night. Very impressed by the service and the quality of the food. Reasonably priced and liked the idea of the booths - made it like a private dining experience !

The staff here were very friendly and helpful. They tried to make mine spicier but it could have been more. That said, the food was very good. Worth a visit.

Been to the uni many times, with good food & service. Tonight we went and food was bland and plain. Don't go on a Wednesday as chef not on site.

Have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions, service and food are always excellent. Tables have their own curtains for privacy. My favourite main course is prawn vindaloo ( if you like it hot), but milder dishes are equally good. Staff friendly. Return visit is must.

This is second time we have been for a meal and again it was great. Very friendly staff and food brilliant

Ordered a Balti and Korma. Both were very poor. The Balti was more like a stew but without the flavour. Could not taste the coconut in the Korma and was more sauce than chicken

Visited UNI late on a Friday night with two friends and we immediately were shown to a table in one of their booths. It was my second visit to the restaurant (first time was March 2018) and it did not disappoint. I had Vegetable Samosas for starter followed by the Lamd Dopiaza with Pilau rice for main course. I also had a bottle of Cobra beer. The food was really good, and the Dopiaza was delicious. I would recommend it. My friends also commented on how much they enjoyed their meals too. The service was quick and friendly. Another thing I like about the restaurant is that quite a few of the tables are set in booths behind curtains. It seems a bit odd at first but I really like the atmosphere/feel. I’d be happy to visit a third time!

You get exactly what you want here. Excellent curry, excellent service, nice surroundings, fair prices. What more do you want?

Estar en este restaurante unas cuantas veces. Siempre llamado el sábado por la noche y sentado dentro de quince minutos. Siempre elegimos el menú fijo y tanto yo como mi esposa disfrutamos de la comida. La comida está bien presentada y el personal muy atento, sin molestarte entre los cursos. Recomiendo encarecidamente este restaurante.

The food on a whole was good. Not outstanding as I have no desire to go again. It’s the little things and the thing that let the restaurant down was the mint sauce (lacked consistency).

Went for something different between Christmas & New Year. It was recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint. The food, ambeance and service were brilliant. My party had a mix of indian and english meals, all were fantastic.

Have been here before and tbh it was really nice food and the service was acceptable however our last visit was such a let down.

We have been here half a dozen times now in the last 12 months and each time we have had a beautiful meal and perfect service. Looking forward to our next visit.

After having been several times I totally bigged up the place to my friends who were visiting Liverpool. The food was all good as always but the service was tactless and rude. When we asked for an extra moment to decide on food (as we were all arriving separately) we were met with an actual eye roll and sigh from the waiter. Then later on, one of us had to dash off but the we still had a glass of beer or wine each. We were then asked to leave and blamed; “we didn’t realise you’d take so long” were the exact words. Wow, I’m sorry our presence was a such nuisance to you.. don’t worry we won’t be back.

Attentive staff and tasty food. The dips for the poppadums were a bit runny but flavoursome. Would go again.

orders chicken madras take away ended up with lamb or beef I don't like either so it ended up in bin I live a few miles away from city centre....so my advice is make sure you have right order before you leave very disappointed.. and would never return to this establishment again

Weve been here more times than i can count . So that in itself says something about the place . But the last couple of visits i feel the food has been way below what i would expect from the UNI . Had a lamb dansak the other week , and it was poor . Its a funny dish dansak it can vary greatly from place to place . So gave it another go last night and went for the UNI special . Well special it wasnt . Both lamb and chicken pieces were dry as an Arabs flipflop . There were 3 prawns in there as well which were tough . The curry itself could have come out of a tin . Certainly dont think ill be heading back anytime soon like .

The service and food here is first class, very friendly staff and delicious curries whatever you have. We visited Liverpool in December 2017 and this place was recommended to us, booked a table again as soon as we decided on another trip to Merseyside.

Reunirse con ex workmates hace unos años, soy del Manchester, algunos eran de Liverpool, así que alternaba entre. He dicho podemos ir para una comida india en el comienzo de la noche, en lugar de al final? Fuimos a la UNI y no me decepcionó, cabinas independientes con cortinas que podría acercarse para la privacidad. La comida era deliciosa, yo tenía una Vindy Dupi - Split con un mate y fue encantador. Parece ser que los Beatles habían comido aquí. Yo vivo en España ahora la mayoría del tiempo, pero si de volver sin duda volvería a este lugar.

Tres de nosotros comimos aquí por recomendación de nuestro conductor de taxi y cómo la derecha era él. Nos sentamos en una de las cabinas, los camareros eran muy cortés y servicial y la comida era absolutamente excelente y muy razonable. Sin duda comer aquí de nuevo en nuestra próxima visita a Liverpool.

Pedimos unos pocos empleados indios pensaban bar que mejor y la uni dieron más votos, así que nos fuimos. . Desde fuera. Parece un poco pequeña, pero pronto ya que puerta se abre te dan un servicio de primera y sin duda la comida.

I first came here in 2001 and have always loved it- most recent visit was last week and its still Liverpool’s best curry house! Friendly staff, 1970s decor and the biggest portions of chutneys ever. its unique selling point is its booths and original decor. Peshwari nan is gorgeous.

We asked two local police officers where we could get a decent curry, the answer was the UNI. It was only about 200 yds from where we were so gave it a go. Do not be misled by the small frontage, the interior is pleasantly...

Por desgracia, la comida era francamente soso. Buena comida debería ser, y comida Hindú en particular, y sabrosa con niveles de sabor y sutileza de sabor, no sólo todo el calor o sal. Sólo he comido un pollo jalfrazi desde aquí, el curry no tenía sabor y había más cebolla en que había pollo, nosotros no vamos a volver.

Visitamos este restaurante un par de veces, que ha sido muy bueno cada vez. Muy buena relación calidad-precio y gran tamaño de las porciones.

Bien. . El servicio es bastante bueno! Lo que les salva de una estrellas! El poppadums son bonitas pero el encurtidos sirve con ellas son simplemente y la salsa de menta como los gustos crema de ensalada! Uno de nuestro grupo tenía un plato de gambas puri, que era langostinos en una salsa correoso mealy insípido! Los platos principales eran decepcionantes, insípida, con muy poco de las especias. En general, un total decepción!

What can I say. I've been here fir meals for years and always will. Great service. Superb food. Extremely friendly staff. Try the cha cha king prawn. I ask for it to be changed to cha cha chicken ..It's amazing. Just been in again tonight for another good meal. Thanks U.N.I see you again soon.

We have eaten here on a few occasions now and we are never disappointed. Food is lovely and service is great. We love closing the curtains in our booth and getting stuck in!

It has been several years since we have eaten at UNI and it was our favourite place in Liverpool to have an Indian meal. Sorry to say it's not as good as it used to be, we visited on a early Sunday evening and the restaurant wasn't busy. Food was served quickly, portions good but meals didn't seem to be as tasty as we'd experienced in the past. Waiter was uncommunicative which is unusual at UNI as in the past we always found staff there pleasant and friendly. Doubt we'll visit again.

Been coming here for years. Doesn't look like much on the outside but when you get in there there's a lovely calming atmosphere. The added privacy of the booths with curtains are a nice touch and its almost as if you're eating a nice meal but at home. Food is great value and delicious too.

This restaurant was highly recommended by our taxi driver who dropped us off after a great day at the races. Restaurant was buzzing with many race goers like us. Huge choice on menu. Service really quick. Food yummy and doggy bag packed to take away after. restaurant was understandably noisy but all good fun.

The staff was friendly enough and the service was fine, but the food was nothing special.I thought all the meat was overcooked and the poppadoms seemed shop bought, as did the naan bread (but I could be wrong about the naan). I do think that a lot of people rate food after downing a number of pints/glasses of wine and anything would taste half-decent when you're half-cut and this may account for higher scores on TA.Regarding its cleanliness, the rating from the hygiene website scoresonthedoors.org is 3 out of 5, which is a 'fair' rating and I would agree with this as it's just about average - I wouldn't choose it for a romantic meal, but for a curry with the lads it'll do.I can't see me going again as I think there are better curry houses/restaurants in the city with tastier food, which are cleaner and have more exciting decor.

Eight of us went and all the food was very good. They adapted mine to my taste. Staff were excellent and they have secluded cubicles if you like. Prices were reasonable too. We weren't rushed and felt very welcome. Would definitely recommend.

Due to commitments don't get to this great restaurant nearly as often as would like Service and friendly staff spot on. Food as usual brilliant with a great choice.

Visited here with family to reminisce about my student nights spent here in the nineties. Thrilled to discover the curtained booths still existed. Service was friendly and quick. Food was tasty and big portions. We over ordered on the rice. Two rice plates would have done for four of us but then we aren't huge eaters. The food was averagely priced. Only criticism is there were no plate warming stands and the food went cold quickly. Would probably visit again next time in Liverpool.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Liverpool. I love the little booths that they have. They are so private with little curtains you can close and the staff are so attentive and friendly. I love the way the food comes in individual dishes so that everyone in the booth can pinch a bit of each others. The food is always delicious! We would love to be regular customers here but it is a tiny bit above our price range. That being said, it is definitley worth the money. When we have a special occasion we love to come here.

Went in with a few friends to have a nice meal in, got seated quick, food arrived at a good amount of time. Over all the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend anyone to go for a date in one of the private booths. Or with friends/family as a nice evening meal.

Went early on a Sunday evening and had our pick of booths. The staff were lovely and accommodated my request for an off the menu dish. Food arrived quickly and was delicious. Love the fact you control the lighting level in your own booth and could draw the privacy curtain if desired. This place is definitely worth a visit.
