Umami Japanese Restaurant in Mole Valley

The best sushi there is in Dorking. Such a lovely place to go to, and run by a family. It’s a real gem and beats all the larger chains by a mile. My husband and I order here weekly and absolutely love it. Umami’s sushi is always fresh, and the team prepares it so quickly. 10/10 🙂

Great food. The dragon roll was splendid. 🤩 The beef udon noodle soup 🍜 was delightful. Food was quick to wait for and great quality.

We had a family dinner at Umami for my daughter's 14th birthday. We had the restaurant to ourselves,(it was a Sunday evening) service was fantastic, food was delicious and the staff were so kind and attentive, they even gave my daughter a birthday card when they discovered it was her birthday. We brought our own cake for her, which they happily allowed, bringing it out at the end of our meal, singing happy birthday to her. Really enjoyable evening. Thank you Umami xx

Very nice local Japanese restaurant with very good food

Ordered a takeaway for 5 and not disappointed - The food was lovely and tasty - a real mix of things which made it even more enjoyable. The staff are helpful and friendly. Yes the restaurant is a bit spartan but then again you end up paying for that generally in the food: all the best places I've ever eaten on the world are plain and simple letting the food speak for itself - and it does in bucket loads - Thank you

Fantastic food, well presented...

Can't really comment on the atmosphere as I was the only one in there but the meal was lovely, and an excellent pre match meal of seafood with noodles. A misunderstanding meant that I ordered a full side order of Kimchi but a minor detail tbf The lady serving is lovely and I got given my menu by a delighful little toddler - so sweet

Beautiful little authentic restaurant! The sushi is incredible with a huge range of options (whether you're a raw fish kind of person or not) and the hot dishes are delicious. I've never been to Umami without over-ordering and always have leftovers to take home for lunch the next day. Proper little unexpected gem in Dorking.

Very disappointing, had a beef ramen a few days ago that was lovely so I ordered it again tonight and it’s nowhere near as good it’s just got some horrible seaweed and sweetcorn it, had to add my own greens etc probably won’t be back

Lovely food and service, the portions were just right. Many different options for sharing in pairs or small groups! Lovely vibe and decor, they give little sides of wasabi, soy sauce, chilli and ginger. Highly recommend the Miso Soup.

Fantastic sushi, amazing customer service even on new years eve. I'll be returning multiple times. Very good value for money and the food was delicious. One of the best sushi platters I've had!

Terrible I can award this restaurant as my worst ever ‘Japanese’ restaurant in my life. Tuna sushi without fresh tuna but can of tuna. Ramen was not ramen but instant noodles with hard chicken meat and fully boiled egg, we could not finish it as it was too awful. No next time.

Great spot: really nice to have some sushi in Dorking : nice and friendly staff/service and good fish…. Hot menu is good also….. we always order take-out it as it’s walking distance from our house and the turn around time from online ordering to pick up is always quick…. Good sushi with fresh ingredients. Unfortunately they don't do ramen but can't fault their soups with the fresh udon noodles.

Went with my Japanese wife, knowingly is not a truly Japanese restaurant, but we were all positively surprised. cosy restaurant, nice service, reasonable wait for food, all food tasting good, looking good and well presented. Very clean toilets, that is also a good sign of caring about customer experience. Just a tiny detail... donburi is served on a bowl (owan) not on a plate, but yeah, 5 stars to me. Unfortunately not a place we can go back every week but we'll keep it in mind.

Food was overpriced for the amount that was delivered

Food is yummy BUT the customer service isn’t great when I ordered it for collection it said 30mins so got there 30 mins after I order and they said it not quite ready and to take a seat which was fine it’s Friday night of course they are busy that’s understandable but there was people there after me getting there food which was annoying and after waiting 30 mins i asked how long my order going to be and they said one of their colleague is going to check but they never got back to me. 10-15 mins later finally got my food but there was no we are so sorry for the wait or thank you for waiting. Would love to eat there again but not if it means waiting an extra 40 mins without a sorry or thank you for waiting

Oh my gosh the food here is amazing. I had the salmon bento box. Went in to order for collection. Wandered down and back the high street and it was ready. Friendly staff and looks clean. Nice casual environment.

Loved everything that we ordered! The tempuras were nice and crunchy. Amazing sushi and yakitori. Miso soup and karaage were great too. Would definitely order takeaway from here again.

Really, really tasty meals! Had a bunch of starters, chicken katsu and beef udon soup. Loads of meat too. Enjoyed it so much we ordered more to take home. Will be back.

Friendly service and very tasty fresh food

Umami went far and beyond to make my daughter a fantastic sushi cake for her second birthday. She loves sushi and this sushi cake was delicious! Umami made the cake on a Sunday at a time when they would normally be closed. I'm very grateful. Thank you Umami!

Lovely Japanese Restaurant. The food is fresh and tasty. My wife had special sushi rolls, my son had tuna maki and Japanese chicken curry. I had tofu curry and salmon sushi. We all enjoyed very much. The best Japanese restaurant in Surrey.

Great food and great range to choose from. The Steamed Gyoza, Sushi Platters and Mixed Tempura Bento being our firm favourites for sharing. We've only had takeaway due to Covid restrictions. Payment is cash or PayPal only.

Ordered from Umami a fair few times as I do miss the London Sushi bars outside of lockdown! Food is tasty with good portion sizes. Prices are reasonable for a sushi restaurant but not amazing enough to make this the family's weekly takeaway.

Very disappointing. Starters were not great. Spring rolls were soggy (we picked our takeaway up so it couldnt really be blamed on a long journey), I enjoyed the pan fried chicken gyoza's but my husband didnt like them at all. We also had crispy fried squid balls (takoyaki) which were delicious. Main courses were terrible. One of us had chicken katsu curry and the other fish katsu curry. The fish and chicken were fine, but the katsu sauce was inedible. I dont know how to describe it, but the sauce was very heavy and just had an odd taste. May I suggest to the restaurant that they perhaps look at BBC Good Food web page where they have a "recipe called "next level chicken katsu curry". The sauce for this is light, tasty and fresh.....very very delicious! They could learn from BBC Good Food!!!

The miso soup was far too salty. But usually it is absolutely amazing. I LOVE it.

Amazing food definitely order again!

Food is ok but the admin here is terrible. Ordered, came in 1 hour later to collect, waited in store another whole hour with "it'll be 5mins" lies.

Food was ok, but taste was soured by me sitting in their shop for an hour after the collection time whilst they kept lying to me that it was nearly ready.

First time trying Just Eat and Umami - no complaints. Food was fresh and really tasty, will definitely order again.

Umami is an excellent Japanese Restaurant in the heart of the town centre. The restaurant is nice and has recently been refurbished, the restaurant is nice and warm and the staff are immediately welcoming. From the second you get in the door you are treated with care and attention and the staff are very knowledgeable of the menu. They were able to advise me dishes that did not have onions and also went out of their way to make a Sushi Platter for my pregnant wife. The Chicken Katsu Curry is delicious and was thoroughly enjoyed by myself. Although Sushi isn't my thing, I did have a try of it and it was pleasant and enjoyable. My wife however loved it and devoured every piece. The restaurants staff are absolutely lovely and between the wonderful food and the friendly and attentive service, this is a must visit location in the town. Look forward to visiting again soon!

I absolutely love Umami. The food is brilliant - the katsu curry is great, as is the ramen, and the sushi is always fresh. Generous portions, great prices, really quick service.
