We’ve been many times as a family but I’m guilty of not ever having left a review. There’s nothing I can negatively criticise. Location atmosphere staff friendliness and knowledge all excellent. The food was excellent from the veggie options to the rest. I had the best breaded haddock ever and I’ve eaten a lot of fish in my time. All 6 of us were very very happy. The chef mingles and Ann was on top form being her usual friendly but professional self. The other staff were very attentive and friendly too.

Our first time coming here and we had a delicious 2 course meal, will definately be back. The staff seemed very nice and showed us to our seats right away. The menu had good diversity but not too big that you were reading a book which made choosing our meals much easier. My partner opted for the margharita pizza which was one of the best she has ever had, ( though it was traditionally served and did not come cut so im sure if you asked in avance they would have done that for you ). I went for the chicken dish of the day which was chicken, ndjua and potatoes and it was also excellent. The chicken was tender, sauce was very creamy and full of flavour and i had a nice pint of Moretti to wash it down with. Our deserts took quite a while but after it was chased up by the waitress it was soon on the table. We both had the sticky toffee pudding and it was also decent however the only complaint id have is there should be an option for custard instead of ice cream to go a long with it. Overall i would recommend this establishment to any group of people weather its couples, friends or family. You will have a good meal here and the prices are very competitive.

I went here with some clients for a light lunch. Despite having a business in the same street, this was my first visit. I enjoyed lunch so much, I visited the restaurant again that evening with my husband. I think this is now my go to place in Haddington, and I envisage being a regular for Friday nights after a long working week.

Service and food was brilliant. Enjoyed a meal with my son on a break away and would definitely recommend a visit if staying in the area.

Being a fussy bloke who believes ' Pub Grub ' has largely lost its way over the last 20 years. I am always reluctant to inconvenience myself by trying a new set up or management that thinks it has cracked it when it comes to satisfying the market. Especially when I cook for a hobby using the fine dining techniques of the best.My wife and I ate here last night during a period where the staff were stretched to say the least, hosting a group of 100 people for a party whilst serving a dozen tables with a great choice of menu.They hit every button for me with ' Quality of food ' ( really good ) Atmosphere, busy but friendly, warm service. Good pricing.Has to be the top eatery in the town, if in Haddington, seek it out, you won't regret it.

We were at mazzoli ( Tyneside tavern) for lunch today .. it was fabulous food excellent.staff very very attentive. And restaurant spotless .. we try and go once a week from greenlaw in the borders . Not only because the price is great for the three course lunch menu . The standard of the food is wonderful. If I could give this revue 11 out of 10 I would. Colin wallace ....

Went into the bar with our dog and made very welcome. We could smell the great aromas coming from the bistro next door but knew dogs were not allowed in. The barmaid explain that we could eat the full menu in the bar. We had a great Italian meal and our dog was given water and biscuits. Great end to great day in Haddington.

Went here twice and both times there was a Marie Celeste Feel to the place. Why? The staff are friendly, the decor lovely and its in a pleasant area of haddington just by the old podrate mill. If this were Edinburgh or Dunbar then this place would have a roaring trade but as its in sleepy haddington it feels a tad neglected.This is a shame as its a nice place to go.

We are fairly local to Haddington and were told that the tyneside tavern had a lovely restaurant with upmarket food. Unfortunately it was not for us. The staff were lovely and the food was okay. If we had known it was basic Italian food we probably wouldn't have gone. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't good and wasn't for us.

Tried the Italian for the first time. Had the set lunch which was fantastic value. Staff were excellent and food was great standard and delicious. Will definitely go again.

Had a lovely meal with my son tonight after standing out in the cold watching the football. We got a table for two beside the fire and were received by two very pleasant members of staff. When the food arrived it was hearty, hot and delicious. It won't be long before before we return. I only wish I had room left to try the home made Sticky Toffee Pudding. Next time

It is several years since my last review at the Tyneside and although I have been back several times since it has usually just been for drinks. .However, on a recent holiday to my daughter I decided to take her, my wife and twin 6 years old grand children for a Sunday meal. The service was excellent as were the menus(including children's one) for a Sunday meal. I am pleased to say everything was excellent quality and prices very reasonable. If any complaint the portions were too much, so a good complaint and in fact my wife took home almost half her chicken which again the staff wrapped up very neatly. I would certainly recommend this tavern for anyone visiting or staying in Haddington.

After a post Christmas/New Year shopping trip in Haddington, we popped into the Tyneside to catch up hopefully with Paul or Charlie - Ann was holding the fort and looking after a very busy Mazzoli Italian Restaurant. We had planned just to have a coffee as it was 5 mins to kitchen closing. Really surprised to have Ann serve us with soup and mussels which were really appreciated on a bitterly cold, dismal January day. Nice to catch up and thank you again.

Pizza's and Pasta's are second to none, not to mention what actual 'specials' the chef's have available that day.Fantastic place to eat as they accommodate every dietitianary need.

We had a group golf club dinner for 25 at the Italian restaurant Mezzoli based at the Tyneside Tavern. Everyone's food came at the same time and was piping hot. Every mouthful was so delicious, I had the best piece of cod in years, perfectly seasoned and so tasty. No matter which option we had every plate was 'licked' clean. The staff were very attentive and so obliging for such a big group. Paul Kinnock, please thank them. The restaurant is always busy and has a cosy atmosphere. Feels very Italian!

Great welcome from the restaurant staff.We all chose slow cooked leg of of lamb,and gave it 10/10.On our choice of sweets, Tirimasu was the only disappointment.Staff were attentive in a pleasant way.

Mazzoli at The Tyneside Tavern is a wonderful spot to Eat!! Charlie & Paul cook up great meals and the service is topnotch! So if ever in Haddington East Lothian Scotland its a place to go. We were there in early Sept and loved it!! Great way to end your Holidays with a great Meal with Family.

The tyneside has long been a haunt my family have enjoyed. We don't get as much time together as we'd like any more but when we do the tyneside is a must visit, staff are lovely, food is tasty and it's a great place for drinks and entertainment.

Decided to go out for a meal but neither of us wanted to drive so decided to go to the Tyneside as it had changed to an Italian Restaurant. The food was really lovely. My other half decided to get a pizza (which is not like him as he's nearly always a fish man) and he really enjoyed it. I had the sea bass and this was lovely and very "meaty". Will definitely be gong again soon.

Having completed the riverside walk we stopped for lunch deciding to eat our main meal mid day rather than in the evening. I was going to chose from the Italian menu which looked lovely but having seen the three course set menu for £8.95 we both found plenty to chose from and we were not disappointed.

Had lunch with a friend - I knew that Paul, Charlie & Crew wouldn't fail after all Paul is from Italian heritage. The daily specials sounded great, but a little too much for lunch, so we stuck to sharing 4 to 5 starters from the al a carte menu, each one was delicious and we polished off the lot. Change of decor was called for, but I didn't find my chair as comfortable as the previous ones. Looking forward to many future visits, in fact have a booking for Sunday lunch tomorrow to celebrate 53rd Wedding Anniversary. We'll probably miss our usual Sunday Roast, but I'm sure there will be many more tempting Italian offers to tempt us.

The Tyneside is now am Itslian restaurant,much needed in Haddington. The new decor works well and the menu is genuine Itslian. Prices are sensible too. Service as before is excellent. We had an evening meal and really enjoyed the good. We will have to go back because there were so many things on the menu we want to have. Go! It's good!

A cosy pub with a real fire, lots of chatter and good choice of wines, spirits and beers. There is also a Bistro which they are converting to an Italian Restaurant. Great place to watch the Ruby 6 Nations, brilliant atmosphere.

This place is a lovely gem,the food is sooooo tasty and plentiful.Charlie the chef is a truly great guy and nothing is too much trouble.Alec the bar man and waiter is a man of many talents.

Mid week dinner was excellent, very polite server and barman, good menu with adequate choice, food was excellent and the service was quick and efficient. No complaints at all, will certainly return to the Tyneside.

After recently being taken over by previous Landlords with Charlie the chef on board the food has improved so much. Fresh fish,homemade daily specials and amazing sharing boards for Bar. Always been my local but glad food has improved. Friendly staff and local warm service. Dog friendly in bar and tourist friendly throughout.

Metimos a almorzar en el camino al sur. A pesar de ser sorprendentemente tranquila en general nuestra experiencia el almuerzo era de primera clase, con buen servicio y buena comida en un entorno extremadamente cómodo y limpio. Lo recomiendo altamente.

Lovely family run business, service was amazing. Food was hot and well presented would recommend the battered fish 'n' chips, fish is fresh and local perfectly cooked. Deserts are overwhelming, worth your money great reasonable prices.

Visited the Tyneside Tavern today for a nice lunch with my daughter. We were dealt with promptly and efficiently and couldn't have been made to feel any more welcome. Our drinks order was taken once we were seated and given menus and had the specials menu explained. I ordered the Chorizo and Black pudding starter followed by get burger while my daughter had the club sandwich. Everything was well presented, hot and prompt to our table. Couldn't fault a thing. I would definitely recommend here to anyone as everything was delicious. Dec go worth 5 stars every time.

I attended the Tyneside with a good friend for the Thursday night steak & wine. I had booked prior which was glad as it was busy when we arrived. We were greeted by Charlie who very quickly got us a large, very well need glass of house red. The menu is simple 8oz rib eye and chips. We were offered side dishes and sauces which were delicious. There is also the option to choose from the normal menu & specials . Food was piping hot,well presented and delicious. We ended the night with a pudding and a drink in the bar. Atmosphere was very relaxed and no rush for us to leave. Will return.

We went as a group of ten and found the food excellent and great value for money. If your looking for a friendly, good value for money restaurant for either a small or large party, this is the place. Quick, good service, prepared to go the extra mile...:)

Steak Night at the Tyneside. Place was packed. Steak was beautiful...not the cheap cuts you normally get at other discounted steak nights. Service was great...one of the chefs came round and told us about the source of the meat...the famous butcher etc.will be back next week.

After a really hectic day a group of us (11) landed in the Tyneside for food and a few drinks, we were not disappointed, food was great and we were very well looked after by Charlie, Lyndsay and Allan! Thank you all so much and I'm sure you'll see us all again (book us in for 2nd June 2018)

It's not just the food that's back to its best at the Tyneside, the whole atmosphere has changed and it's great to see. Eaten there 3-4 times in last few months and it's been consistently lovely, they'll also adjust dishes to suit what you fancy if they can. We've had full meals and bar snacks on separate occasions, chorizo nachos were super tasty. Would highly recommend the pizzaiola steak and the seafood sharing platter. Service is always friendly and it was brilliant to see the place so busy at the weekend. Frozen cocktails were a god-send on a hot day.

We popped in without a reservation and were made very welcome by Charlie. Good selection on the menu plus a few things on the specials board meant we weren't stuck for choice. My OH had the trio of mini burgers - a definite recommend! I had the chicken which the chef kindly adapted for me and excluded the mushrooms - nice and tasty. After change in ownership a few years ago we drifted away from the Tyneside - great to now see Paul back in charge and fabulous food back on the menu again!

We had a lovely evening. Dinner was fantastic. The Mini burgers were really yummy. Great service with both the food and in the bar afterwards. Hope to be back very soon.

Wow!!!What can I say? What a fantastic evening. I went there for a family meal. There were 10 of us ranging in age from 5 - 87. There was something for everyone. The food was second to none. The burgers were very popular. They looked and tasted awesome. The kids food was great too with the perfect portion size. Thanks to the most amazing chef,Charlie, who managed to put everything together so brilliantly. The service was great, the waitress was lovely, front of house was great, and the atmosphere was fabulous. You couldn't get any better than this. We'll be back.

We stopped off in Haddington tonight after a long drive up from London. It was so refreshing to be welcomed into the Bistro where the food and service were just great! After London prices the cost was exceptionally reasonable and the staff very friendly. Also,and importantly,the place was spotless! Thank you all. We'll be back and I have told all my friends of our find tonight!

We had Easter Lunch at the Tyneside and I've said it all before, food and service excellent made absolutely fantastic by the re-appearance of that slightly intimidating tattooed teddy bear Charlie. Great to welcome you back into the fold, the terrible twins, Paul and Charlie together again.

Although we were the only people in the restaurant (which really surprised me) it was still a very pleasant atmosphere mostly due to the very friendly waitress who made us feel most welcome and comfortable. We had really tasty meal from the lunch menu and left the plates clean! We both decided that we must return to try other items off the main menu and definitely off the specials menu! Just reading the menu made my mouth water. :)

Just back from having a meal celebrating my brothers birthday. I had called to say prior to going that I was hoping to bring in a birthday cake etc and would this be ok. The person on the phone was more than happy and very helpful. We were a party of 5 and recieved a warm welcome. Drink orders were taken etc by the lovely barman , think his name was Charlie . Charlie I would like to thank you for what you done for us today and making it such a nice surprise for my brother in relation to the birthday cake and the ice cream you kindly gave us!! The meals were fantastic we were all very impressed with the food . Three of that party had the roast beef which went down a treat !! I had the chicken dish which was lovely but could not finish it after my starter of pate and oatcakes which was also amazing!! Also the chilli seemed to go down a treat too. The food today was absolutely fantastic so no complaints there. The service was outstanding also . Thank you very much for making my brothers birthday very memorable . !!!! We will certainly be back!!!

After watching the football in our friendly local, we decided to have a bite to eat at the bar. We couldn't decide which bar snack to have when the barman suggested a sharing platter. It was simply delicious and hit the spot. A combo of fresh mussels, chorizo with black pudding, terrine and jelly, pate and oatcakes, scotch egg, pork pie and chips! Well done Tyneside Tavern!

Popped in to The Tyneside last night for a bite to eat it didn't disappoint. My wife and I very much enjoyed our well presented dishes cooked to perfection. After debating whether to have a dessert after our good sized main course, the chef recommended the authentic homemade sticky toffee pudding which we can honestly say was amazing. Definitely be back again for another helping.

I don't usually write reviews but this place deserves merit. Doesn't look much from the outside (or inside), there's nothing wrong with it, it's just an old fashioned wee pub. But the food! The food was out of this world! Took the wife here for mothers day and to be honest we were a bit skeptical. The butch scary looking tattoo sporting waiter who took our order was one of the nicest people I've ever come across working in a pub. And I go to ALOT of pubs! There was a set menu for mothers day with quite a limited selected. Fair enough, it's only a wee place. But everything we ate was absolute perfection. My wife had the roast beef Sunday roast ad I had a veggie curry. Very, very tasty indeed. Compliments to the chef, and waiter. We will most definitely be back!

Fourteen of us had a fantastic meal. Everyone without exception were delighted with their choices (and there was a wide selection). Service was exceptional on a very busy Sunday afternoon. Great atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Be warned the helpings are LARGE. Looking forward to our next visit.

We have eaten here a few times under the new management and will keep going back. It is a pleasant venue with very good service. The menu has interesting courses and there are specials too. The quality of the food is of a very high standard as is the presentation. Be sure to visit for a meal.

Food excellent and very fresh. Server really good and happy. Restraint room a bit old schoolroom and not welcoming warm. Will definitely bring friends to eat next time near Haddington. Looked like a fabulous summer area for a post prandial stroll.

Only a few days until the famous Tyneside open log fire. The logs have been delivered..the kindling is chopped and the lum is getting swept next week....Can't wait

I've had the pleasure of enjoying 2 lunch time visits in October. First visit with my friend was a shared starters affair where we chose 3 starters between us with a portion of their briliant chunky chips. Delighted that Paul has carried on with his complimentary basket of artisan type bread and butter. Our final bill (which included a coke and a large glass of wine) was the cheapest lunch out we've had in a loooong time, so cheap that we asked them to check for an undercharge.My second visit with Husband was a "meal", consisting of "himself" having Broccoli and Stilton soup, which I had a taste of and regretted not having had some myself, it was delicious. The soup was followed by Roast Beef in Pepper Sauce served with too many veggies to mention. I had lasagne with an accompanying dressed delicious salad and of course a portion of chunky chips. Finished off with an Espresso. Once again the final bill was very affordable. I would point out that there are "smaller" portions available on most dishes and if you are a light eater, as I am, remember to ask. Warning - the portions are really big and the menu is extensive. Service excellent.

We have now eaten lunch here as well as dinner and would definitely recommend. Our dinner for two was excellent and plenty vegetarian choices for my husband. A few weeks later we turned up with two young children (7 & 4) and their parents for lunch without booking and were made very welcome. The children had a special meal that's not on the menu but was most appreciated - chicken goujons, mash & beans! Where else would go to that effort for kids? We're very glad to have Paul and Ann back running this wonderful Bistro.

We popped in to the Tyneside as we had heard that Paul and Ann had returned to the Tyneside. This hard working couple had gone from the Tyneside to the Waterloo Bistro, which was transformed by them and I was so sad when they moved on.Paul informed me that he had only been at The Tyneside for 4 days and was getting it ship-shape, (that was when he could find time between chatting to well-wishers, like us popping in). The place is looking good and will hopefully be serving great food next month.I'm sure it won't be long before The Tyneside Tavern will be back on the map as the best eating place in Haddington. Came across this cracking little place on a Sunday drive. Cosy traditional decor with a nod to Haddington's past. We took lunch in the lounge but the bar also looked really inviting. Thought the menu was just about right but especially recommend the sunday roast beef- delicious!! Was really impressed with the waitress service (a lovely young lady called Lucy) friendly, knowledgeable service with a smile- nothing was too much trouble for her. Might have to stop off in Haddington a wee bit more often

We had the chicken with Haggis this evening and it tasted burnt, two pieces of broccoli poor meal for £12 each.Should have said something but didn't.Won't rush back.

Attentive quick service, food all hit, although portions slightly small. Good value for money though and staff to be commended.

We had been looking for somewhere to take part in a quiz night and we will definitely be back! Arrived early to grab some dinner. We were all quite impressed with the standard of food, much better than your average pub grub! The quiz was good fun and the regulars were chatty and friendly. Looking forward to going back for both food and quiz.

Came here after a few recommendations from friends. Received a lovely and warm welcome from staff, very cosy bar and restaurant area, we had the roast pork for our main it was lovely, just what you need on a cold Sunday afternoon, nice and fresh vegetables and a variation of potatoes to go along with it, and to top it all of the homemade sticky toffee pudding was to die for.

We often buy Groupon Vouchers to try out new places to eat so thought I'd give the Tyneside Tavern a go. I have to say that unfortunately on my visit here I was disappointed, it might have been just an off day for them however I can only go on my experience, The eatery was a pleasant room but really cold, it was 2C outside and I would have thought that temperature would have warranted the wood burning stove to be lit. We the ordered the roast pork dinner which sounded perfect for a sunday lunch, how wrong I was, when the dinner arrived I was surprised how unappetising it looked, the menu stated roast potatoes (should have said potato as there was only one and even that was a poor excuse for a roast spud, i'd prefer to have aunt bessies if the cook can't do it), the cabbage, mashed potatoes and carrots was just like being back at school, no taste and bland. pork was just ok and gravy was really thin and again lacking in flavour. for desert I had the apple crumble and once again very simple and lacking in care for the food. Sorry that it all sounds negative but I'm just sharing my experience. The one area which was really good was the staff, they were extremely helpful, pleasant and a real bonus to this Pub, they alone deserve better food to bring to the table. I did have a laugh with the people at the next table thought, when their starter of a prawn cocktail came to the table they commented how they thought they had woken up in a Fawlty Towers episode, I hadn't seen prawn cocktails like that since the 70s. I do hope that this was a one off, but I judge my food on how I could do it, I'm not a chief so my lowest expectation is to have something at least equal to my cooking and on this occasion I'm afraid the Tyneside Tavern failed miserably. If you are looking for a first class bar meal in Haddington go to the Tyneside. New owners, decor and menu. Standard bar food, excellent quality. Lovely staff

Booked a table of 7 Which turned out to be 6 of us. My husband had the pigeon breast special which was fabulous. We all had two courses with drinks and it was under 140.00. Great value and what a treat no frozen chips. For pub grub this is a special wee place and we will definitely be back. Desperate to try more things on the menu still dreaming about the black pudding Bon bons!

Visited the Tyneside for Dinner and was blown away again. Food was lovely, I had the Haggis Bon Bons to start which were tasty and surprisingly light followed by the Salmon which was really tasty and cooked to perfection. We visit this pub every few weeks and the food seems to be getting better and better, the service is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere in the pub is great. If you havent been and are passing Haddington then you're missing a real treat!!

The Tyneside was recommended by some friends so we visited & what a pleasure it was. I ordered a pint & my wife had a glass of wine, the lager looked great with a thick creamy head & the wine chilled just right. We ordered from the menu & food came in good time. It was presented well & we really enjoyed the meal. The staff were attentive & cheery & worth the tip ( not an easy thing to say from a Yorkshireman ) Will definately go again.

Went to this lovely looking pub after a brisk walk around the river. The smiles end there. One plus.. The waitress, excellent!! ( long blonde hair).My wife ordered the burger.. It was dry and seemed like it had been reheated. Bacon was black around edges. I ordered steak pie. Lack of gravy, and what there wAs was so thin.. Supposed to be cooked in ale... I think not. Pastry undercooked also. Presentation of both dishes was very basic and messy. Plates not cleaned before sent out, with bits of gravy and grease on the rim. Our friends had visited this pub in September and loved it. Such as a shame that everything was awful. Sorry, but won't be back.
