I’ve been lucky-enough to eat food at the very top end, in many corners of the world, and today’s meal has been right there with the highest accolades: top drawer. The food was designed and executed to such a high standard… We all struggled to pick favourites, with courses rated 10/10 by everyone at the table. Personal favourite was the fish course. We’ve all been here before, so it’s great to see the new team superseding the already high standards set by the previous ownership! Thanks!

Oh dear. Change is inevitable but not always for the better. Front of house was somewhat chaotic and slow, the canapés arrived after we had finished our drinks but they were delicious even if one was described by our server as “ a beigey thing”. The food was rather like a curates egg - good in parts. The duck parfait for starter, again delicious but unfortunately one of our main courses was distinctly on the cool side as was the temperature in the lounge. Realise it is a new team, they really need to up their game to make Tyddyn Llan as welcoming as it used to be

What a great new start, we stopped the night and had the 10 course tasting menu. The food is excellent and the menu is perfectly balanced and the portion sizing is great and not overwhelming. This is a new start and the they have started to change the decor room by room. But what is kept is the focus on local quality producers which shine through in the food. Would may have made an even digger impact if the dishes introduced when served focused on the producer also. The breakfast was in a tasting format and you could opt for all or just certain courses, we went form the all and it was great. Would highly recommend and will be back.

This is a lovely location with fabulous fresh food, which is beautifully presented. The change of style from the new team is already being shown on the website. We enjoyed a drink on the verandah, with delicious canapés, setting the scene for the courses to follow. It’s hard to choose one favourite, but the crab and tomatoes, green gazpacho and cherries with tonka bean cream were all particular favourites. Service was friendly, yet professional and the staff seem to be adapting well to the new expectations. Some changes have already been made to the décor, with more planned and it is clear that the new owner and management team have ambitions to return this restaurant to the top of its game.

First impression was that the place was a wee bit " tired,' and I didn't much care for the sort of stale cooking smell in the dining room , it was if the kitchen extractors weren't working . All this sort of stuff can be forgiven if the food is good Unfortunately for me the food wasn't that great , it felt as if it had been left on the 'pass' a little bit too long. The food certainly wasn't as good as it was when I visited last year.

You are never disappointed with anything from the wonderful welcome, amazing canapes, comfortable lounge areas, amazing food, great service and the breakfast beats anywhere we have ever been. We chose this restaurant for a special Christmas Eve lunch for our immediate family. This included 2 toddlers whom were warmly welcomed even though they are probably not the most common clientele at this very luxurious country hotel. Everything was beautiful, the setting, the decorations, the staff and then the food which was abundant and delicious. It is not cheap so a special occasion is called for but if you want to give yourself a real treat then I would highly recommend. They also catered immaculately with a special coeliac diet we required for our party. That is certainly not the case everywhere. Thank you to all the staff that made our afternoon so special.

Found it by accident almost, but what a find! The setting is nice and quiet, the accommodation really good. Cleanliness is excellent. The food is superb and whilst there aren't great numbers of staff front of house, those who served us both at dinner and breakfast were so good, with nothing too much trouble...even down to an Espresso Martini!! We certainly be returning.

Following a lot of research around the area looking for a special somewhere, reading all the reviews we arrives at Tyddyn Llan. A beautiful setting accompanied beautiful early summer weather. A great start. We were welcomed into what might be described as the sitting room with sofas that were well by their sell by date. Er, OK. The reception then started with the apology of lack of staff but that the team would do their best. Not great but OK thank you for the fair warning. Then being presented with the tasting menu which was the only one available when we pre-ordered with the booking I requested details. This was met with "oh well if you told us you wanted wine we would have prepared but we are understaffed so sorry" - say what ! Are you kidding me ! I have never heard such a statement front someone who is not only front of house but the wife of the owner. Next the aperitifs. A joke, I mean seriously. This is not "cancel culture" post or anything untoward but a scotch egg, alongside a couple of other rubbish titbits I could have picked up at the supermarket appeared right at home at a 1980's dart match was an incredibly sour opening. You can see the photos of the nonsense served. This is am sure available at Lidl or any other super low cost supermarket at a fraction of the price. Plus there was zero description of what these poor morsels were meant to be. Next onto the dining room, we were first in and to be fair it was midweek but it was like dining in a library. I would estimate that in total 5 of the 12 tables in that particular room were occupied and yet the atmosphere was, at best, subdued. The food. Well I could write about this for hours as I've had nightmares about the (sorry) cr@p served here. Pea soup, are you taking the michael. The dish withe courgette flower was oily and the sauce something which tasted of tinned tomatoes with an afternote of sourness tinged with bitterness (and that was only the taste). The highlight of turbot I was genuinely excited about trying. I was passed the hardly touched plate of a family member who described the flavour and texture as inedible. Given that person was paying the bill I politely finished it off. Mine was OK, the dish I was pass could have been mistake for being microwaved, I'm serious - it was awful. I prefer to finish all reviews on a positive so in summary maybe an off day, a severely bad off day by the chef and general team operations at this particular moment in time but to changes well over 600 with very little alcohol was I'm afraid an absolute joke and makes me angry even typing this now. Based upon our visit, absolutely avoid this place.

From the moment we first entered the accommodation we were immediately put at ease and nothing was too much bother. We have been a number of times and have always enjoyed it but this time, it all seemed tired. For a special offer for a night and the 8-course meal costing over £400 one might expect something really special. But it was not to be. it was goodish but, besides a couple of the dishes (scallops), there really wasn't anything that stood out as outstanding or intriguing or even interesting. All very competent but slightly underwhelming if not bland. It didn't seem well-planned as one dish led to another without true definition or contrast. The main part, lamb, was very dry (maybe to do with the power cut) - and very disappointing. The dessert was very poor. Too many restaurants are now doing taster menus, which are increasingly expensive. One understands the financial pressures such restaurants are under but they are extremely difficult to pull off successfully, and, in this, case, it didn't really come close to justifying the expense.

Ten of us enjoyed a really lovely night’s stay here to jointly celebrate our 40th anniversaries which had occurred earlier in the year. From the outset, everything was fabulous. The rooms are well maintained, each one with its own individual perks and quirks as one would expect of a period property. Lovely bedding too. Our fizz and canapés were served beautifully by two of the younger staff who looked after us superbly all evening. An absolute credit to themselves and the restaurant. A range of tasty hors d’oeuvres including scotch eggs, lava bread, salmon rillettes started us off in excellent style. We had organised to have the tasting menu, which was presented on quality paper for us to peruse and also to decide on a couple of options. An unusual and unexpected feature of a tasting menu - thanks. Pumpkin soup, beetroot or crab, scallop, sea bass, duck or venison, all very tasty and beautifully presented. The individual servers were charming and yet unobtrusive while our party gabbled away! As well as all of the above there was a range of desserts and a very generous cheese board to choose from. Coffee and tea in the lounge were accompanied by a wide selection of petit fours. Outstanding food and service. Thanks for a wonderful time. Breakfast this morning was excellent too. A huge range of fruits as well as coffee, tea, cereal, toast with beautiful butter. Forgot to ask where that came from? Thanks for a grand finale of our various celebrations this year.

Me and my partner were located in The Garden Suite which was so lovely and spacious and a REAL gem had it been in the summer! The Welsh Breakfast is truly delicious, the Black Pudding is hands down a favourite! My father enjoyed his pork sausages that were filled with meat!! Great spread of cereals, fruit and freshly squeezed juices also! There are all sorts of local walks that have all sorts of times and difficulties written on them to give you a rough idea to plan your day with! There really are some great sites and views once the sun came out for us!There are a few Honesty Boxes in the local village where you can purchase local eggs laid by the chickens nearby. The tasting menu we had was excellent! My father really enjoys the scallops that the kitchen dish up! I had a chance one morning to see the kitchen and speak with Bryan Webb himself which was such an honour. He gave me a tour of his kitchen and mentioned there is no fancy equipment in the kitchen, which just goes to show how hard the kitchen work to provide such a high level of food! The floor staff were all very smart and very helpful in serving us and made us feel comfortable in the living room before dinner. They Brough out canapés and brought our drinks over when we were ready to dine! There really is so much beauty in this hidden restaurant. If I could recommend a dish I'd have to say the half lobster with ginger and lime sauce! We stayed here for one night. The room (Room 2) was extremely comfortable, but what earns the five stars is the food. The meal was simply excellent all the way through from appetisers to the plum and almond tart - and next morning, the cooked breakfast repeated the astonishingly high standard. We stayed here because the loons at Extinction Rebellion threatened our intended stay at the Westin Grand in Berlin; now that we've found it, we'll be back. (Oh - and the largely young staff are on the same very high level as the food),

We stayed at this venue a few years ago for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast, and it was a lovely experience, and my husband had the best black pudding ever at breakfast, so when my son bought me a voucher for lunch there for my birthday, I was really looking forward to it. We has some delicious canapes in the lounge before going to the restaurant for our meal. My beetroot starter was very bland, required some seasoning, my steak was a little dry, it really needed the sauce that was served with it, the chips were thin ( just like you'd get in McDonalds) and the salad were some sparse leaves in a bowl. My creme brulee was runny, more like custard. Nothing major wrong with the meal, just nothing was quite right, not what you would expect from a restaurant with a Michelin star

Recently visited the beautiful Tyddyn Llan and enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu. The food was lovely - particularly enjoyed the starters, scallop and the laverbread and the mains of lamb and duck were divine. Only small niggle to let down the menu was the puddings - the Paris Brest and the rum/raisin chocolate pudding. Both were rather heavy and rich with no balance to the flavour and texture across the dish in my opinion however, looking now i believe this has been removed from the tasting menu. Whilst enjoyable, I do feel it was slightly overpriced (tasting menu plus a half bottle came to approx £220) - on par with top end London prices but slightly lacking in the overall creativity and uniqueness to tasting menus I've had elsewhere but the food is still lovely. The staff were wonderfully attentive and inviting and the atmosphere was very quiet and calm and overall 3/4 star experience!

We chanced across Tyddyn Llan when looking for somewhere nice to eat and stay en route from London to Holyhead to take the 14.00 ferry to Ireland. The GPS sent us south of Shrewsbury and across Snowdonia so the approach to the handsome house was truly spectacular. Billed as a “restaurant with rooms” that is what it is although having said that, the “Best Room” that we booked on the summer midweek rate was huge with a large bathroom, big fluffy towels and all the facilities expected at a luxury hotel.

Good quiet country location, but the main reason for our visit was the food. While it was not inherently poor, it was not at the level we would have expected and as such was overpriced. When the canapés were served we were not impressed, very poor quality and presentation, unfortunately at that time we still anticipated our Michelin star tasting menu. The soup was not seasoned and simply tasted of stock. The scallop and turbot course had obviously been kept warm causing a hard exterior. Lamb cutlet we were informed would be served pink, just as we like, however it was so thin and well overdone, the plate being so hot that when I asked for it to be replaced Susan was unable to pick it up, the replacement was a slight improvement, it was easier to just make the most of it.

Lovely mixture of appetisers that were delicious. Ordered our drinks, then our meals were placed. Taken into the restaurant and had a lovely table by the window facing the garden. I had a tagliatelle with broad beans/bacon to start and my husband opted for hake goujons with a Thai sauce. Both were delicious. Our mains consisted of one roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and one pork with apple sauce and stuffing both were accompanied by roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, fried courgette (zucchini) and vegetable selection. The meals were first class. Our desserts did not disappoint either - rum baba and chocolate marquis- both served with ice cream and chantilly cream.

Having been building up to visit for a very long time and having not been to a Michelin star rated restaurant before, I can only say, "Meh" [sic]. On arrival, the outside was very dark and unwelcoming with the parking completely full and nowhere near enough provision. Cars were actually abandoned; one was blocking the front door/entrance to the venue, and when we came out after dinner another car had been abandoned/parked that completely blocked the rest of the driveway. The food was not impressive (save for the Hors-d'ouvres that only managed to build us up for bigger disappointment later), had no wow-factor, the flavours were okay but the (very!) overcooked steak only went to show that Chef does not like Blue or Rare meat himself, or won't/can't cook to request. The chips were on par with our local pub but not really what we expected from a Michelin Star venue. The salad was, literally, a few green leaves dropped in a bowl. There were more gripes round the table, including random portion control both on starter and main for one of our group. Was it an experience? Yes. Was it a good one? Not really. Would we go again? No, we wouldn't. Was it value for money? Not at all, service and food was not commensurate with the cost nor the reputation. In short, "Disappointed and feel misled by Michelin".

The service from Susan, utterly perfect and the entire meal was a joy from start to finish.

Remarkable experience. Very much was looking forward to our 2 day stay at Tyddyn Llan after my mother's very high recommendation. A very warm welcome. Beautiful and comfortable rooms. Mine with a fabulous view of the autumn colours of the beautiful Acer tree in the garden. Delicious gin and tonics and flawless service in the comfortable spacious lounge. Food first class exactly as one would expect from the flawless Mr Bryan Webb. The best duck my mother has ever had. Enormous praise indeed. As a chef the highlight of my visit was being invited to visit the impeccably run kitchen. Such a thoughtful and personal touch. Breakfast provided a great and tasty selection of local produce and homemade marmalades and jams. I was first to the table both mornings. Impeccable and such a pleasant environment that we became friendly with several other guests. Highlight of the holiday and indeed this chef's year. Go! Go at once!

What a truly beautiful environment to eat a superb meal. We had the tasting menu. Delicious, as was the continental breakfast. We didn’t have room for more!

This was our second visit and just as good as the first. This place never disappoints and begs for a return visit each time. On this occasion we were on a Travelzoo voucher with my sister in law and her husband. We were treated no differently to any of the other guests and in fact we were given a complimentary upgrade on one of our rooms. We had the 6 course taster menu which was delicious and one of our party who doesn't eat fish was catered for to his taste with alternative dishes. The staff, who were being trained, were excellent and looked after us very well. Susan as always was the perfect host.

We were on holiday in the area and decided to visit this restaurant as they could offer us a six course vegetarian taster menu. The restaurant is beautifully presented. The staff are extremely attentive without being over the top and the food is amazing. Every course was exciting, and so full of flavour. The deep fried courgette flower was lovely to look at and even better to eat. The whole experience was wonderful.

NO foams, no liquid nitrogen, nothing 'deconstructed' on our tasting menu - just classic dish after classic dish, each perfectly cooked and presented without fuss or gimmickry. The service was friendly, efficient and, most importantly, unobtrusive. Our room was charming and lacked nothing in the way of facilities. The house and gardens were a delight. Overall, a very enjoyable visit to a restaurant that thoroughly deserves its Michelin star.

Celebrating my husband birthday here was a surprise for him. I really wanted something special for his day. Thank you Tyddyn Llan for an amazing and beautiful fine dining experience. With our appetite set for the 9 course tasting menu , you truly taste the range of what this restaurant has to offer. What made this extra special was the personal touch, a lovely birthday card, special for the birthday recipient. The place itself is welcoming, first being escorted to the many sitting lounges, lovely , before dinner cocktail and divine bites. I would recommend booking with an overnight stay. It’s worth the whole experience. Once again. I truly, truly stress, the team who carefully notice that your wine or water glass is empty, the lovely exchange of words, a kind smile, when you inadvertently drop or spill something. Is equally important and appreciated as the amazing food on your plate...... Much Thanks, truly enjoyable and memorable evening.

We almost always have a meal and night away at the Tyddyn Llan for our wedding anniversary, and we have never been disappointed by the hospitality or the food. We always receive a warm welcome, and on this occasion had the tasting menu which was fabulous. We'd recommend going for the wine match as well, which is good value, plus it's great to be introduced to wines we wouldn't usually choose.

We've dined here twice, once on a taster menu and once for Sunday lunch. Tyddyn Llan itself is a beautiful place. When we arrived, we were shown into the sitting room and offered delicious canapes. The sitting room was warm and welcoming with a delightful open fire, it was a comfortable room full of antiques. This was the best part of the experience for me. In the restaurant itself, the atmosphere felt cold. The service is lovely. For the taster menu - there was just the two of us and I selected the vegetarian option. My husband, in particular, was disappointed with the courses - it wasn't as good as we were expecting for a Michelin starred restaurant. For the Sunday lunch we took my Mother in Law, the food was 'ok' but nothing special. The Yorkshire pudding was overcooked and the vegetables were disappointing. We don't mind paying more for quality, but to be fair we've had better Sunday lunches elswhere at a fraction of the cost.

Visited for a slightly early Father's day lunch with my wife, young daughter and baby son. The whole experience was very enjoyable; we were well looked after (including the children) and the food packed some great flavours. Very generous portion sizes as well for a restaurant of this standard; no chance whatsoever of leaving hungry!

Our visit here to celebrate a big birthday was well worth getting older! From the minute we arrived, when we were greeted with tea and cakes in the delightful garden, we were enveloped in the laid-back, friendly atmosphere which the Webbs have created at Tyddyn Lan. It stems from their superb attention to detail throughout the operation, and it pays off in the relaxed confidence that makes a stay there such a relaxing experience.

We spent a glorious evening at Tyddyn Llan ,a birthday treat. A lovely old fashioned restaurant with rooms set on the edge of Llandrillo. Tea was served in the pretty garden on arrival and we were shown to our comfortable room where we were able to stay with our two small dogs. Dinner started with canapés in the lounge followed by a sumptuous 6 course taster menu with well chosen paired wines. The meal featured most of my favourite dishes, the scallops and lamb being the high light but all courses were excellent and expertly served by attentive staff. After a comfortable night we enjoyed the breakfast buffet especially the wide range of fruit. We ended our stay with a 3 hour circular walk in the nearby hills. A treat indeed!

Dined here recently and found everything to be just perfect. Bryan Webb is certainly a master of his ingredients and his kitchen and we will surely make the effort to enjoy his cooking again this year. Wild garlic soup kicked things off (after sensationally good canapés - the Scotch eggs had to be tasted to be be believed) and then a beetroot and blood orange with ricotta starter. That was followed by scallops, hake then duck breast in my case (my wife’s lamb cutlets were also brilliant) - all served at the point of perfection. I finished with the rhubarb and champagne trifle. Coffees and four great petits fours were enjoyed in the lounge. We enjoyed the flight of five wines served with the menu in the restaurant and thought that the whole constituted great cooking and great value - long may Bryan prosper!

We had two very fine dinners with two nights' stay as a package deal. The first night we had their tasting menu, the second their a la carte menu, so we feel that we explored their range of dishes pretty comprehensively. Cooking was overall of a very high order; good quality ingredients, well constructed dishes and pleasing, imaginative presentation. To be honest, any very small criticisms we may have had were purely at the level of personal preference, so I'm not actually going to list them. Pre-dinner canapés and petit fours with the post-prandial coffee were also very enjoyable.
