Overpriced for scones and a cuppa. Service was OK, it was relatively busy, so must be popular with locals. Decided not to visit again, as many other options in Beccles

Twyfords is known by many locals as overpriced, and the Deli with cafe across the road, is better for quality, value and friendly service. However, Twyfords does have a very pretty small garden, and so occasionally we visit in summer. However, at £4.60 for an large americano today, it may be a long time before I return!!

Poor value for money. Indifferent service. The pot of tea is very small for £3:95 and the cake really didn't seem ' homemade ' -I have to agree with a previous reviewer. Premium pricing is justified for outstanding quality and service.

We always try to visit Twyfords when we are in Beccles. We’ve been on our own and with friends and family. We’ve popped in for coffee and cake and light lunches too. Excellent with gluten free. Amazing vegan afternoon tea. Haven't had an afternoon tea since going dairy free, so was amazed to find this one and booked it for a birthday treat. Was not disappointed, and neither was hubby who is definitely not vegan. Doesn't come with a pot of tea or coffee, but a cup of coffee each, but was good coffee. The afternoon tea itself was 6 finger sandwiches in a mixture of brown and white bread. The fillings were delicious and both had chickpea fillings but were different. Hubby said the chickpea, walnut and cranberry was the best sandwich he ever had. The sandwiches came with few kettle chips. There was also a delicious veggie sausage roll and was still warm. Then a small delicious scone each with 'butter' and jam. A few bits of fruit. then two small bits of cake each, one a chocolate cake and one a victoria sponge. Delicieux!

Before we did anything else in Beccles we thought have a coffee, this place looked good on the eye from the outside, the cakes looked even better on the inside. We asked if it was dog friendly and were told walk through the cafe to the back and we could sit in the garden, if walking through why not just have an area inside somewhere any way it was a comfy area back there. Ordered a coffee and tea cake a lemon and carrot and walnut, it came quickly and very pleasant service. Cakes were lovely just a nice slice. After enjoying our stay we paid on the way out. Now don’t get me wrong everything was good but £20 for that. It was a bit real.

Lovely little cafe with a varied menu and strong coffee. Smoothies were fabulous, ice cold and tasted freshly blended. Continental plate had the biggest croissant ever seen. The granola with fruit and coconut yoghurt was delicious (vegan). Couldn't see any gluten free options on the menu so perhaps it's a separate menu as there were some gf brownies (£3 per brownie to take away!). Marked down a star as it was a long wait to give our order and then be served. It's a pricier cafe and so I would have expected the details to be right. No spoons provided to eat with and no one around to ask so had to use the teaspoon from the coffee. Tiny bit of butter for the breakfast which barely covered the amount of breads given. They forgot to bring the water we'd asked for. Minor quibbles perhaps, but it matters. When paying, we weren't given the bill to check and it seemed rather expensive for what we had.

We arrived in Beccles after a 10 mile walk from Oulton B-road and we needed food! We have been here once before and it didn’t disappoint. We went in and were welcomed straight away. They found us a table for 2 and we sat down within a couple of minutes. Maria was our waitress. She was so welcoming and friendly. We ordered the steak ciabatta and I wanted a jacket potato. However, I was a little fussy and asked for no butter and the dressing in a dish. I apologised and Maria said - no don’t apologise it has to be right for you. The food was first class. It tasted so good! We didn’t have time for cake so my husband got an amazing piece of coffee and walnut to have when we got home. It really was a lovely lunch. Thank you to Maria.

We used to LOVE this place but it has been going slowly downhill for a while now. The food isn't a patch on what it used to be and is ridiculously priced for what you are served. Todays offering was a chewy steak ciabatta that i couldn't bite through (returned for refund) and a half empty club sandwich haphazardly put together. All very disappointing. The staff are friendly and helpful although i think they may of forgotten us as we waited over 20mins for the food and other tables were served their food a lot faster. All in all not a good experince and we will not be returning. Pity.......what happened Twyfords???????

Always a favourite of mine when visiting the area but went today to finally try their afternoon tea. First off it’s nice that you don’t have to book in advance like most places. We were seated in a very timely fashion by a very friendly member of staff. She took our order and as we already knew what we were having it was dealt with quickly and efficiently. After a few moments the lovely staff member popped over to offer us a an alternative afternoon tea (the original one we ordered didn’t have exact sandwiches/cakes etc and was left to the chef to decide what we were having, which I liked the idea of!) but on the second one offered we had an exact menu of what we would be getting. We opted for the slightly more expensive second option and I am so glad we did. Everything was delicious. And whoever had the idea to put cranberries, chickpeas and walnuts together in a sandwich deserves a huge pat on the back! That combination just should not work and as I normally don’t eat chickpeas or cranberries I didn’t expect to like it, but, it was the best sandwich I have ever had. It was a bit on the expensive side but I would happily pay that again as it was evident the time and effort that went into it. We left satisfied and very full! Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere and definitely worth a look!

This place is lovely, front if house team very pleasant and service is quick. Love all the old decor and keeping things original. The menu is varied, enough to please most people. The wagu burger was very good and although busy we didnt have to wait that long. The only slight glitch are the limited toilets, although this is obviously due to the size, shape and space available. They are clean and stocked well so not a massive problem to wait a few minutes for one to be free.

I ordered a local continental breakfast which was delicious - it came with locally made preserves and a huge croissant. Unfortunately, it was served on a huge platter with no plate to actually eat from. The preserves were in silly little cups made from some sort of wafer that were so light you had to hold them down to stop them lifting up with the knife when you scooped up your marmalade! A traditional serving with ramekins or jars for the preserves with a teaspoon to scoop them up would be far preferable. And where was my plate?

Came to Beccles as part of a holiday in Norfolk and remember going to Twyfords as a child for their fancy hot chocolate. Ordered two coffees (mine decaf), a Bakewell tart and salted caramel cake. Twyfords was busy, but there were lots of space and a breeze from outside which was nice. The plastic screens to distance in respect of Covid were good and created a private space to talk and feel safe. The service was poor and our order took over half an hour to get to us. We were told it was as they only have one coffee machine and it was busy. For the size of the restaurant - maybe two coffee machines are needed to process the orders. The decaf coffee was nice, although we weren’t asked if we wanted sugar. My mum said hers was Luke warm. The cakes were lovely. However, for £5.95 for the salted caramel cake I’d be annoyed if it didn’t taste good. Nice to reminisce from my childhood but would only go to reminisce as it’s on the pricey side - £16.40 for two coffees and two cakes.

Had an Anniversary gift of a Afternoon Tea at Twyfords, really looking forward to it as have been here several times over the years. What a disappointment, only 2 types of sandwich, cheese & pickle and chicken, both cut so thin that the filling just fell out so had to use cutlery, 1 very tiny party size sausage roll which i am convinced came from Greggs, a teeny weeny cake that came in a container that you would fill you ketchup in from Mc Donalds , and a very small scone that was defiantly not made that day . To top it all off, the Tea arrived well in advance and had 2 big tea bags inside which was far to many as the tea was almost orange as we poured it out,so much so that i had to take one bag straight out and top up the pot with the extra water.Really Really disappointed, have to add the service was excellent, staff very friendly, restaurant very clean,Sorry.

They have a few unusual choices as well as classics and cater well for vegetarians and vegans. So far so good... my only complaint is the service. Food arrived before drinks. Then 2 drinks came, I politely said we’d ordered 3 (one each) and was told there were only 2 on the order. I said I’d like a coffee and the lady said “I’ll have to put it through” as if it was a problem. It eventually came as we finished our food with no apology for the delay or mix up. Nearly £50 for a meal for 3, including 2 cakes.

I went to Twyfords take away section and waited by the door as the notice instructed. The woman called me over,no smile, just a yes, felt awkward immediately. I ordered a scone to takeaway and the woman said do you want it now, I said no to takeaway please, she huffed at me and said it a harsh voice do you want it frozen or defrosted. After I had paid she said wait in the middle, not very clear so I said just here and she said rudely no over there. Not very clear instructions from her and she did not seem to want to be there. When she brought the food she threw it down on the table and said exit is there pointed and walked off. I was fuming when I got to my car already but when I got to the park I found the scone had not been buttered or cut in half just thrown in a bag. My partner found sesame seeds in his sausage roll and he said it wasn't very nice. We are regular customers to twyfords eating in and out but after this rudeness from the woman with the dangling earrings who spoke like she was on a fish market and the quality of the food we would have 2nd thoughts about returning.

But I think its popularity in these tough times leads to problems, as staff struggle to keep up with demand whilst at the same time ensure both the customers & themselves stay safe.I think we will try to frequent less popular places from now until the pandemic restrictions are lifted, but will definitely return once things get back to normal.

During our holiday in Norfolk we visited Twyfords twice. I've said on previous reviews that we have to search for gluten free and when we find a good one it's such a bonus. The service was friendly and helpful. A range of dishes and drinks that were a bit different and a treat too.We bought some gifts from the coffee and chocolate takeaway. The chocolate wasn't gluten free but there were sugar cones that were! A happy surprise. A gelato or two were ordered. We had an enjoyable visit both times we went and would recommend anyone to give Twyfords a try.

Came to this cafe for a spot of lunch upon arrival we appear to have entered the wrong door to wait to be seated but there was no sign to indicate that. Staff not wearing masks & not a one way system in place as customers and staff all walking in and out the same door. When we got seated we had a drinks and food order taken. Our food arrived before our drinks & I finished my meal before Our drinks have even arrived at the table but yet other customers ordered drinks & had them before us even tho we ordered 10 minutes before them, When the waitress delivered our drinks we got no apology or nothing. Wasn’t happy with the level of service as we have dined here before & the standards have slipped especially when one of our drinks was a coke which was served out of the CAN!! & there charging £3.60!! Also this cafe isn’t “COVID secure” as I understand there is plastic screens at tills & on the bar but when the waitress or waiter clear the tables they don’t have to wear masks and neither do we....I think the staff should wear masks while clearing and taking orders from the tables.

The cafe stood out as we drove through the town. The breakfast was great. The service was friendly and helpful. It had well thought out anti-Covid systems. It was even better with the Eat Out to Help Out.

Went here at the weekend. Good points were that the food we had was very good and the two ladies that served us at the table were helpful and friendly. Bad points, the girl that we saw on arrival was unwelcoming and seemed put out we wanted to look at the garden area before deciding whether to eat in or out. Later saw the same staff member behaving in a similar manner with other customers so didn't take it personally. It's on the expensive side and we had to ask for the table to be cleaned.

Top spot for a leisurely breakfast, with a varied and local menu. Courtyard garden was lovely, allowing for plenty of social distancing and relaxing backdrop. Staff friendly and attentive too, so overall would highly recommend!

We stopped in Beccles for a drink after visiting Norwich and found this tea room. At first it looked smallish but there is a really good garden out the back with clear portions between the seats. I had a home made toasted teacake and pot of tea while my wife had a home made bakewell tart and green tea. Both were really good and just what was needed

Visited with a friend for breakfast. Ordered a cappuccino & eggs royal. Eggs royal arrived before my hot drink. My eggs royal arrived warm not hot & it had no seasoning. No salt or pepper at the tables to add seasoning myself. Won’t rush back!

We were visiting the area and decided to look for somewhere in Beccles for lunch. First time we have eaten out since March and we were hoping for something with outside space. Hit lucky with Twyfords Cafe. Appealing frontage drew us in and the courtyard garden is lovely. It feels a bit strange with screens and all the other bits and pieces needed to make it COVID “friendly”. Good menu and we had some lovely sandwiches. Friendly staff too.

Sadly to say was disappointed. Let’s start off with the positives, ordered a burger with a Stilton and spring onion sauce, hand cooked chips onion rings and coleslaw. The coleslaw was really creamy, the chips and onion rings were delicious. And the bun was fine. Bottle of wine was lovely. That’s where it stops, my burger was tough and over done, but I could get over that, it was the Stilton and spring onion sauce. A sludge with no flavour. Not even a smidgeon of Stilton flavour. I did ask the waitress where was the Stilton? She said, bless her, that I can see you have had some (where?) think she meant the sauce, no Stilton or even flavour on my plate. She offered to go and get some more. I was horrified when she came back with this pallid gloopy sauce in a dish (some that had already been thrown over my burger) that tasted of absolutely nothing. Yuk. Surely if Stilton is the first named ingredient in the sauce you should be able to taste something? Got hubby to try, he understood my disappointment .,From my comments you will know I did ask and said I wasn’t happy. Not her fault. The kitchens . So… if you like Stilton don’t go for the burger with Stilton and spring onion sauce. All you get is insipid pale tasteless gloop. Oh and the sauce on the burger made the lettuce go soft and slimy, no crunch, and goodness knows what happened to the tomato. Soft and slimy too. To be honest I am fairly local, but wouldn’t go back.

Bit on the lumpy side. Starter was salmon and prawn. 1st time I came sauce was great. Second none. I'm sure the fish dish is wonderful but the steak I had wasn't so great. Pudding was a delight. Sadly for a Friday it was very quiet
